You got me into building with a purpose and making every settlement different!
I’ve been loving using misc items to decorate in my outpost, I’ve been finding some amazing things and I love the idea of taking things home from your adventures and having them on display. It just adds sooo much more to each space, especially things like notebooks & pens etc. not sure if you’ve tried it or not but you can just drop the item and move it around when you’re in the build menu :) I always look forward to seeing what you come up with when you make bases, it always helps me get more creative when building my own. loved this a lot :)
ive been tempted to do that - but im a bit concerned re-NPCs knocking everything flying lol - so I might hold off until we get official modding tools, then my plan is to make a static decoration pack

Very excited to see the things you'll create in this game. Your Fallout 4 and F76 builds and tips have always been a joy and a great inspiration. Also totally agree on toilet stalls and shower stalls. Even just a module with everything included, like a sort of dressing room + showers and toilets like you might see at a gym, or barracks, tacked on to the living quarters. Or for more fancier builds where everyone has their own room, a sort of en-suite unit. I hope Bethesda gets on that.

It's funny, I originally found your channel during FO4 due to not having a system on which to play the game and wanting a way to experience it vicariously. Here we are, some 7 years later, and I find myself in the exact same boat with Starfield. Looking forward to seeing how you bend and break this building system to your will!
Looks great! Been waiting for someone to do some serious building. 1 tip I have so far, add a single hallway to the habs and you get a little room perfect for a bathroom storeroom or maybe bedroom.

Lin is on my ship since the start and is always asking "Are we going to do some mining Dusty" and I just want to give her somewhere to call home. I really don't care about outposts and farming stuff or making money, and this video has inspired me to give Lin somewhere to be.

Great stuff! Could you show how to elevate the buildings when placing them with a controller? Like literally which button(s)? I spent way too long the other day unsuccesfully trying to figure out how to do that, and I can't find anywhere online where the input is mentioned.
that's just using the right control stick up and down - you place the building, and then it gives you the option to raise/lower it before final confirmation
Excited to see your builds for Starfield, especially once mods really get going. For hydroponics and animal husbandry, I think the location has to be capable of supporting life.

As a 76 builder I never realized how truly spoiled I have become. The build system is very reminiscent for me of early days of 76 as well. I am how super stoked to be able to junk build again!
you can gather every in-game miscellaneous item and drop them in your base, when you go into outpost mode you can pick them up and place them! it adds the details to the place
My biggest issue in building atm is x3 fold. 1: No singular mass storage for resources, & current containers being capped as 99 resources per. 2: The rails on the stairs, I hate that they just disappear into the ground rather than get edited away by the program (when going into ground as they do). 2b: No airlock without stairs. 3: likely the biggest issue, you don't have foundation type tiles to pave out an area. Looking forward to more vids dude. Been a fan of your building vids a while now. Similar to yourself dude, I like r.p builds. They need to make sense, look lived in. Be practical; and conform to actual physics lol.
Once the mods bring us more buildings like domes and the ability to add windows to the prefabs it’s gonna be amazing, and of course place anywhere. Plus I’d love some more traditional house options for planets with atmospheres like you find in akila city.
I know on the green military style habs if you look at the walls you can change them to have windows, there was 3 different window options if I remember right. I uploaded a video using them and I put windows on them.
Busy scanning out the system with the families LIST sent to colonise, going to be making an outpost to "monitor" the settlers and occasionally pop some of the pirates and spacers that visit unnanounced.
Choosing a planet with plants and animals as your first outpost makes it a bit easier. Many plants and animals give structural material and fiber for decorations/furniture while animals provide decorative materials and things like adhesives, lubricants and cosmetics. Combine that with the mineral resources and you have 90% of everything you need.
Something I feel was a missed opportunity is the ability to build colonies for NPCs to live, work, and do business in. There are settlers in the cities who openly fantasize about being able to leave the city and settle amongst the stars. You're tellin' me we can't build a place for them to do just that? We were able to in Fallout 4 and they even gave us a reason why a settlement system would work in Starfield as well, but they chose not to? Either there's a DLC comin' or they really just wasted the chance.

How did you manage to have different level of building so close to each other? Mine keep snapping together to the same height. I just can't make it. Also how did you place the crate so close to the end of the bed? I have huge gap and really looks out of place. btw this is such a nice little outpost.
What we really need is a Fallout building pack, complete with scrap walls and junked equipment etc. Btw, I don't understand why you don't use all the junk laying around other sites to decorate your outpost. You can drop it all on the floor and then pick it up and place it where you like, just as in Fallout 4.
when you place a building it should then give you the height option - it's hard to see when you're in the arial view, so id recommend trying to do it in first person

I'm confused by this statement, you can drop anything from your inventory and position those in build mode, better than you could in Fallout 4. I've already got a table full of all the unique aid dishes in the game. What's the void modding is supposedly going to fill?

I placed a whole bunch of food on a table and if you move the table it just floats. Better than it was in fallout 4 but still, I'm hoping we get further quality of life changes to outposts. Console mods wouldn't fix the limitations unfortunately, and it seems like they've removed this like selecting mulitolle items at once to avoid any rug/pillar glitch type stuff. Still disappointing but I'm getting more into the outposts a few days in. Though oddly I've placed mine about a mile away from New Atlantis so I have a great view on the horizon.

Lovely stuff as always. A skill point spent in Botany will open up your hydroponics, if I'm not mistaken.
I've got botany but wondering if I need to also level it a bit more- I'll figure it out soon
I suspect that I mistook the plant harvesting boons from the skill as including horticultural facilities. My bad.
@@norespawns Apparently you need Outpost Engineering 1 as well as Botany 1 in order to research Horticulture 1.

Hydroponics requires having a scanned flora that has a tag saying something along the lines of "Outpost harvestable" on that planet
Putting stuff on top of HABs.. that's one thing I would be copying. Getting to outpost engineering is a journey in itself.

This may be a stupid question, but how do you actually use the ship landing area? Can you change where your ship lands?

it would take ages, plus all it takes is one npc to walk into it and everything goes everywhere - better to wait until we can make it static in mods

how do you define the height of you buildings ? I play on PC and haven't found a way to set that yet... thanks

place down the airlock and snap the hab onto it - allows you place things a little closer together
