When I was there, the train tracks divided the city and campus area, and I used enjoy watching the trains run behind the dormitories on the East Green. So many quirky and sub-standard off campus housing to chose from. I rented some really odd apartments,....they created the best memories.
This was fun to watch. I grew up in this town 72-87. Spent alot of time on the very streets you filmed. Some changes but not that many really. I live in Jacksonville, FL. now. Nice little take me back , clip. Thanks.
Thanks so much for the video. I went to OU 25 years ago and haven't been back since all though i think about going often! This was a great trip down memory lane... wish you had gotten to East green though... Thanks for the memories! Michael
This was a great trip down Memory Lane. I was there from 1967-1972 and loved it. Caught a glimpse of my dorm (Crook Hall, now Stocker Center) and my sorority house (ZTA, now something else). Thanks for the tour!
July 2022,.........I just read they are tearing down the dorm, Scott Quad. Lots of good memories, from those days. I was at OU from 1972 to 1976,.....and I visited there often, afterwards, until the early 1990s. I earned my BFA, and won a 3 year art scholarship. I met so many people, many who are still my friends to this day. I grew up in suburban Cleveland, and I experienced a culture shock, moving to a small town in the foothills of Appalachia. It was thoroughly refreshing, and a quaint town, still very much living in a past time. It was 1972, but it felt and looked like both the late 1950s, and early 1960s.
@FreewayAndrew I love your tour, but can't help mentioning that you missed some really really beautiful neighborhoods. Soring, Franklin, Grosvenor str, Walker, N. Lancaster, forest str, Old Peach Ridge, Madison str etc. Absolutely beautiful, cozy, gives you a feeling of home. On this Thanksgiving day, I wish with all my heart I could be there....
The building at 13:21 is called Baker Center. It is sort of the hub for Ohio University students, where you can find student organizations, office and event spaces, dining, and lots more.
That looked great. Great picture and great music. Wonder if those three ladies that saw you filming will get on you tube here and see themselves. Wonder what they will say about it. Keep up the good work on the videos.
I grew up not far away from Athens and spent a lot of time in the Ohio University library. My mother-in-law was the house mother at Alpha Delta Pi sorority, which you passed right at the very end of the video.
You passed the house that I live in at 4:23 (right next to the stop sign). I've lived there for 18 years of my life and I think it is a great neighborhood and town to grow up in.
did you end up transferring how was the process for doing that? looking to transfer possibly as well. wondering if the transaction was smooth decent or great
Got in but things got better here, didn't end up transferring. this was almost 4 years ago now. If it's your first year, I'd say give it at least another semester before transferring. Just my 2 cents. Everyone told me the same thing and I was sick of hearing it but just something to think about. But the transition would have been smooth if you do end up transferring.
Can you tell me about the 2-story timber framed house at 9.09/13.53 shown on the right. It looks like it was from the early 1800s? Who owned it originally? Thanks for posting this!
@prfsnlwannabe You haven't seen the most beautiful parts of the town. There are some incredibly beautiful and cozy neighborhoods. Don't go through life without visiting Athens. In fact if I could, I would move there NOW!
I don't know how someone could do a travel thru Athens and totally miss Union St. You missed every opportunity to turn on it. It all burned down a few months ago and a missed opportunity to capture it here.
Me too. We hanged at the Junction, the CI and did Friday happy hour darts at the Nick. The Varsity theater used to show X-rated flicks and the carry outs would deliver beer to freshman dorms. Halloween rocked! All that, and you get one of the finest communications degrees in the country!
I saw James Taylor perform there before he went on to great fame. He was just a scrawny kid with long hair,....singing his heart out with just an acoustic guitar.
I wish if i were born in the us,and brought up there within modern life, healthy environment, and fresh air,but it is impossible to control my fate, and bring my life back to the first moment when i was born.

Great tour. I have visited Athens, OH in 2010 and stayed at University Courtyard. I miss that beautiful place. I live in Kigali, Rwanda in Africa

wow dude do you know what a stop sign is
The building at 13:21 is called Baker Center. It is sort of the hub for Ohio University students, where you can find student organizations, office and event spaces, dining, and lots more.
Thank you for the nice video. I was there in 1997-98. Brought back good memories!
That looked great. Great picture and great music. Wonder if those three ladies that saw you filming will get on you tube here and see themselves. Wonder what they will say about it. Keep up the good work on the videos.

NICE! I haven't been to Athens but NICE ride through Athens! Athens kind of reminds me of my hometown of Kent and Kent State...
Great video! Nice taking the tour with you, You went down the street where I lived senior year in a house that should have been condemned!
cool, a turbo-like roundabout in the beginning. You don't see many of them over there I suppose
Wow! Night and day between athens and canton! So vibrant and full of life. Beauti-fal! UB
great job love the tour keep it up
10:46..saw the apts I lived in 50 years ago. Graduated in 1969..so much different, so much the same!
thanks for great tour and the music. But I wonder why you didn't stop everytime you passed the STOP sign? Isn't is unlawful?
Good memories. I would stop to eat in Athens with my family and later on while I was chasing storms.
Cool. Possibly transferring to OU in the fall of my sophomore year. Thanks for the video, cheers.
Where from?
monmouth university, NJ. much too small here and OU has a great program for my major, also l have many friends in the cleveland area and at OSU!

@prfsnlwannabe Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!
Looks absolutely gorgeous.
This video confirmed my desire to apply to OU's grad school.
Very good video congratulations
Athens, Athens. What can I say? That's an awesome little town.
The music kind of sounds like a weather channel song.
@writer125 Thank you! The 3 ladies probably don't know what the video title is, so it would be unlikely they would see it.
Really disappointed that you didn't drive near The Ridges Lunatic Asylum....

OU Grad from the mid 80's. The Frontier Room & Spud rules !

Did you put the music in to edit out all the cussing at other drivers? lol
Look up the Ridges Lunatic Asylum. Pretty weird. If you look outside my window you can see it.
I heard that this town has some really haunted places around.
@james71 Thanks, much appreciated!
If you change the UA-cam settings to half-speed, the video will play at only a little faster than real life.
2006 i was here n still didnt change
@aswchris Nope, not many roundabouts are in Southern Ohio.
do you not have to stop at stop signs in Athens lol
I saw James Taylor perform there before he went on to great fame. He was just a scrawny kid with long hair,....singing his heart out with just an acoustic guitar.
Way to fast to enjoy. The music is, "Let me off this elevator!"
@colder47 We slowed down enough, then drive on.
I know it is a sped-up film, but it seems you were speeding because a car that was pulling out didn't even see you coming.
@txkid1 Thanks for the story!
What ? there is an Athens in OHIO as well ?
SkandikFilm there’s one everywhere my guy.
greatest place on earth
I really don't see it like that. Spend a weekend here and hop around the bars on and off court street and you will change your opinion
The new Baker Student's Center
that jeep has a bad piston ring
Run them stop signs
You didn't even go to the West End!
I wish if i were born in the us,and brought up there within modern life, healthy environment, and fresh air,but it is impossible to control my fate, and bring my life back to the first moment when i was born.
Great video of my favorite town! Really lame music.
what the fuck, MAKE A LEFT LANE!
Slow down lol
I moved from there in 2011 and I'm very homesick. thank you for showing me this 😊
