    Superior effort and great overview. 2:59.59 is definitely in your near future, far below it.

      Thanks Nathan, I'm surprised I still have you onboard after that poor performance (but still I took some positives). I'll be looking at your training plans in the build up to Christmas, for the push for the sub 3 next year, there's a lot up there on RunDreamAchieve.com !! There's very few like you around and on youtube, the running community is lucky to have you !

    Well done mate. Course PB in tough conditions is still a very decent result! Looking forward to seeing what's to come!

    I snagged a massive PB 19 mins 3:19:16 My block started 16 weeks but it really started from March when I cleaned up my diet significantly and lost atleast 15kg or more. This felt running a bit "easier" with high milage for me in the block and peaking at 110km for 3 weeks. Also included gym work in there atleast once a week with leg day the main focus and 15 mins bike spin before the workout. Since then I PB in the Half in May and in Valencia, I really think that by cleaning up my diet and stregth training made the difference. I can't wait for what's next! You'll get it next time, Matt!

    Well done Matt. Another marathon done! Sounds like a break from Valencia is a good move. I enjoyed Amsterdam and Frankfurt, if you're looking for an alternative Autumn marathon. Both are nice and flat. You said some people have suggested focusing on shorter distance races a bit. I think this works well between marathon blocks. It makes for a nice change after all the high mileage and would likely make that 4:30/km pace feel far easier when you start training for your next marathon. That said, it's all just fun so do whatever training you enjoy the most!

      Thanks @@paulvymeris425 Yeah, expect me to do a few shorter races too next year. I'm hoping to do more say maybe 1 a month, but I really like the marathon training over the others. More to come and 2025 here we go 😁😁

    We learn from every race mate and come back stronger 💪. I was wondering if you think it could have been a case of over training or even peaking too early in the block? I think you also seem to touch on 5k pace and faster in your 800 reps and high volume for that session not sure how much extra id do of that each week. But eitherway you put in the work and just didnt happen on race day, but you gave it a good go 💪 nice work bro

      Thanks @@timothytrewin appreciate you sticking through that long one 😃 last year after valencia 2023 I decided I only to do 2024 if I could do it with no stone unturned. In the training and prep I feel I did that, if you care to see the next vid tmrw (not pushing it) you will see my full week in Valencia, and in the moment I feel I did all that I could pactically do. But as you say we learn from every race, even 10 or 20 maras in 😂 I see some mistakes now and decision could have been made differently 😃 Through the whole block I felt good and better than any block before, energy wise, performance, mentally. But the biggest block I've done, maybe I was overtrained and peaked early.

      @timothytrewin 2 дні тому +1

      @RunThePlanet sounds like there's a lot of positives to take from this block mate! Even to the point you know your body can handle the mileage and still recover 💪 but I think the addition of heat is still going to make it tough even if it's only 5°C warmer especially if you haven't had the chance to do many long runs in that temperature. I really notice a decrease in energy levels in the warmer weather. But I'm loving the 0°c in Scotland for training atm 🤣 I'll tune in for your next vid. Would love to have a chat about training on another app sometime 👍

      @timothytrewin It's along one tmrws vid 😂 but it's also documenting it for me for next time. I'll go back to Valencia one day, once the self pressures off 😃

      @RunThePlanet 😆 that's fine I'll check it out, get that watch time up for ya 😆. Yeah that's a good thing being able to document all this for our own reference later on. You consider running Edinburgh again? I probably will because it's near home but damn annoying along the coast 🤣

      @@timothytrewin I'm thinking about it. it's great run I like it 😃 but when it's windy it's terrible 😂 If I go I'll probably play it safe and run the half again

    Did you say you ran a full marathon just 2 weeks before Valencia ?
    For getting faster I would recommend training with faster runners to push you - joining a running club helped my pace .
    Well done

      @RunThePlanet  5 днів тому

      Thanks Graeme, thats a good idea. I see the clubs out often on the quayside through the week. Yes, I've pretty much been running a marathon every other weekend for the last 5-6 months (somewhere between 40 and 42k) its taken a couple training blocks to get it to this. You might be thinking i'm crazy, a lot have said it 😃🤣 but for now I still believe its possible to train like this.

    Matt - thoughtful and insightful recap. Your training and racing leading up to Valencia was excellent. There may be small tweaks ... Eliud Kipchoge does 2 main track workouts 30 x 400 and 10 x 800 followed by 10 x 400. Not suggesting you do these, but they are significant volume. His breaks are also short, making them more lactate threshold than VO2 max workouts. Most elite marathoners do a 40-42 km long run (Kipchoge does 40 km every 2 weeks), some incorporate a tempo run later in their long run, so on tired legs. I think you also ask an important question, whether the Alpha Flys contributed to your cramps (it could be a combo of reasons?). I think you are well on your way to a 3:10 and likely a sub 3. Congrats again!

    When the pace starts drifting and people pass you it really sucks the life out of you. I had this feeling too. In March I'm wondering if it's Tokyo or Barcelona! I assume you're not in Manchester which is disappointing as I'll be there this year but I totally understand you much be bored of it by now!

I like Manchester and it's a good course for me, holding my PB and 2 fastest times. I think you'll do something amazing, I might be there yet, who knows, but 3 years in a row already... 😉
