I ran my full necromunda collection as a conscript platoon back when they were 20 to 50. So fun to get them on the battlefield, even if they died in droves.
I'm playing this necromunda for 25 years now. We started as a group of 6, all with different gangs, mine being Redempionists. After many years only two of us keep on going, we meet for a game at least twice a year, as I'm living abroad. We have all the scenery, all the gangs and still cannot wait to play. I will have my necromunda in my coffin, when I'm gone. Best game ever.
I remember us having a great time with it, and we actually had a league with 8-10 different gangs, playing every week. Unfortunately, I found it kind of breaks as the gangers level up. At lower skills, position and cover mattered a lot because full cover was really good protection, but once a few characters had effective BS of 5 or better, they could hit anything in their range. And of course those characters got given high-strength weapons, so they turned the whole thing into rocket tag.
I loved this game in '95. The metal Orlock dude holding the shotgun like he's about to op out around a corner was my favourite. Me and all my 10 yo mates thought the Escher gang was the best thing ever!
@BroadswordWargaming it was definitely my earliest memory of Warhammer, I remember painting my bases rims blue for my Eldar in the late 90's and being essentially told off and told to paint them green at a Games workshop 🤣
This was my favourite release when I worked for GW (closely followed by Battlefleet Gothic), and it was a brilliant entry point for new gamers, as they only needed a handful of figures. This was the period when ALL shop figures had to have Goblin Green bases. There was more than 1 shop that Had wonderful shop gangs, and were forced by area managers to repaint the bases green. No-one liked the green, as it looked so out of place on the boards.
This was te game that all my teen friends could finally coalesece around. We could have 4 to 6 of use with a couple of sets for a weekend day, play a good few ames each, everyone could afford a gang or two and it wasn't sport based (I love blood bowl, but others just didn't get it). The campaign rules were great. Wonderful game. My Escher girls are one of my prized warhammer possessions and due a re-paint one day soon.
Necromunda was my favorite game when I was a kid. I still play the OG system and think it dumps on the new one, frankly. I've still got all my OG stuff as well. There is actually a chap who does incredible STLs inspired by the original terrain as well, called Zone Arctanis.
@@BroadswordWargaming I think it is just quite bloated and groans a little under all it's own rules at this point. It OG Necromunda was so slick because it was designed to be one and done, so it had to be somewhat self contained and timeless.
Wow that brought back memories - I'll always remember saving up for this with my paper round money...played it regularly as a kid...wish I had a copy now for the terrain alone! Great paint job you two, really enjoyed that 🐻
This really takes me back. My twin brother and me got in to Warhammer through this box set back in '96. I'm pretty certain the metal minis for characters and some of the gangs were lead back then?
That's right! They'd stopped using lead based metal in 1997 (moving to "white metal"). I have the gang leader, but want the heavy stubber dude, becuase he is awesome.
@BroadswordWargaming my first lead model was a Dreadnaught that my mum wouldn't let me assemble. She put it together with marigolds on and undercoated it for me 🤣
Im still in camp "Black Rimmed Bases ONLY!" Even in the retro look, it still looks.the best... at least to me. Ciara, don't give in to "Big Nail"! You do not need fake nails! Plus think of the savings and that may mean Ollie may have to work a little less... unless you want him to work more.
Could you guys please make a video about the Vallejo Strike? As players who enjoy the hobby we sometimes forget all the workers who labor to make all the games, minis, and paints that make it possible. A private equity firm bought out Vallejo and is hollowing out the company and putting the poor employees at risk. The Vallejo workers just like all the people who make our hobby possible deserve our support and the help of the content creators and influencers who make a living from it to spread the work and stand with them. All the printers, the warehouse workers, manufacturing techs, the paint techs, etc... all of them deserve a fair wage and safe work environment. Really hoping you will make a short video supporting them and sending out the call to all D&D youtubers to do the same. Thanks!
I just can't bare to paint the old Necromunda minis with a green base. I did a project last year where I pained all 6 original gangs. I used the modern necromunda bases :D Was a great fun project!
Another gem of a game from the best era of gw game design. Sure, some of the new minis may be better but the old ones have more character and are still great. Great video guys, thanks for sharing.
Remember playing this as a teenager in the 90s with a couple of my mates. Loved it until one of us got a Spyrers 'gang' - those guys were seriously broken iirc.
I have played Necromunda for thé first month of thé game i still have 6 gangs Orlocks Goliath Escher Van Saar Ratskins and Redemptionist i Guess that's the best game ever made by GW
Literally my childhood, born in 93 with older brothers into the hobby and a super liberal household. Needless to say I now bow to muscle tomboy mommy supremacy (I actually still have mi OG Escher band 😭) and I fell into the dark pit of Inq28 and Inquisimunda
Here's the deal, you fund me and I promise to build a time machine, I'll go back to the 1990s and with 500 boxes of these old classics then I'll return to our present time line and I'll make you £1 million on ebay within 3 months.

Necromunda was and is GW’s best 40k game.

Great video, folks. Had the pleasure of popping into the store and had a good chat with Oliver back in late October. Keep up the good work 💪
aw, thanks for coming over! :)
Oh man, this takes me back to my Orlock gang! The cardboard/plastic terrain that came with the box set was amazing.
It is SO good! I want more now.
Delaque gang veteran here. And two of my juves were named Beavis and Butthead.
Original era Necromunda is my jam! Love this!
It's an absolute classic! The best of times.
Two thin coats has alot of colors that match the old GW paints. Great video
Cote d’arms paints are the old colors.
Ah yeah the goblin green bases, takes me back. They turned out really nice!
Goblin Green bases are peak Warhammer. 👌

Still playing the latest version, often with the old terrain. Just feels right!
I think the terrain holds up, even now. I defo want some more!
Necromunda was great and rhe terrain was great too.
I forgot how great this terrain was. I'll definitely get more. Full board incoming!
@@BroadswordWargaming i think got two extra sets of terrain. I wish I could find them.

Time to go hunting for Oldhammer. JOIN US!
7:08 Gotta love the blendy blends! 💯
Smooshy blends. 😊
I had that box, I had almost all of old Necromunda! Now I go strong in the new generation of this awesome game. House Esher for the win!
Also, Goblin Green bases in the Underdark!
Desperate to paint the new Escher and Van Saar gangs. One day.
The Orlock’s look great. You both did a good job on them
Thanks! They're such fun models.
The Orlocks look so good. I'm glad you kept with the rretro theme as these miniatures really suit that look

Still have some of my old models. Mostly my Cawdor and a boxed set of Escher.
That's pretty sweet. The Escher were quality.
As great and nostalgic it all is, the box-art of the sci-fi urban setting, and goblin green bases is the real memory trigger!
The artwork for this was something else. It's the best thing! An absolute classic.

The muscle bound vest wearing men! A classic.
Make Necromunda green again

Yes
Does Betteridge's Law of Headlines apply?! 😝
Safely assuming the answer is no? :)
Mordhiem is next, right?
I have fantasy in the pipeline and have almost all of the boxes.. all except Mordheim and Battle Fleet Gothic.
Hands down the best game, closely followed by Mordhiem and Battle Fleet Gothic.
100% agree. I loved all of those. Gorkamorka always has a special place, too. It was an incredible era for wargaming.
Yes. It really was the best 40k game they ever made.
Just came here to say "yes"
Well said :)
6:45 the nails don’t look bad imo. Then again I’m a guy who doesn’t really care much about nails lol
We all loved the old munda, progressive and very enjoyable.
The way things should be. 😀
