С удовольствием смотрел за работой Мастера. Когда увидел ярко красные губы в первой прокраске, подумал что это ошибка. Но как оказалось позже, это опыт Мастера и чувство материала. При высыхании и дальнейшей доработке, цвет провалился и попал в нужный тон и цвет. Браво, Михаил.!

I’ve been painting with watercolors since 1994 (I’m 76) mostly ocean scenes, flowers, some landscapes and a few portraits, but all of older individuals. Recently a friend asked me to paint her three granddaughters’ portraits ages 2, 7 and 9. The two older ones, sisters, she wanted on the same paper! She doesn’t paint and had no idea what she was asking me to accomplish. It took me 4 months and three completed attempts, and I still made lots of mistakes, but overall I was very pleased with the results. Watching this video of yours over and over has helped me figure out how to get that super soft seamless yet ever changing subtle color variations. I’m not any where near as familiar with my colors and how they work/combine as you are, but I am learning. It’s really exciting and magical.

Hi again Michael. This portrait is lovely, and I know painting children is a real challenge! Could you let us know what colours you are using? It did not appear to be your usual triad. Also, in this case did you soaked the whole paper or just one side? You said you are painting on the back of the cold pressed Waterford? I am really enjoying the portrait series and want to learn this technique. Thank you so much!
Thank you very much for your feedback, Denise! That's right, I soaked one side of the paper so that I could use the dry brush technique on the other side. And I do paint on the back of Saunders Waterford. The back side is much more interesting to me in terms of texture. The base skin tone blend in this case was Quinacridone Deep Gold and Alizarin Crimson instead of my usual Quinacridone Sienna and Perylene Violet. This combination is just better for the shade of children's skin. Thank you!

Thank you, Dory! I paint on the back of Saunders paper because the texture on the back is much nicer and softer than the front. This only applies to Saunders Waterford Rough paper. And since the paper is double-sided, both sides are workable.

I'm always use a limited numbers of colours, just 10. So it's variations of them...

Did you wet all the paper first or just the back?

If I plan to paint wet on wet, I wet both sides of the paper. I wet the back of the paper only if:
- the project takes more than 20 minutes
- I plan to use the dry brush technique a lot.

Возможно и на меньшем формате. Но! Помните, что чем меньше размер бумаги, тем быстрее она сохнет. А значит, у вас меньше времени на создание мягких переходов и градиентов...

Sorry, but to me it seems to be watercolour without water, always 'dry brush'... (acrylic technique). Although I like the final result.
It's not "acrylic" technique and absolutely not a dry brush. Please note that the back of the paper is soaked with water. It changes everything. Thank you!
