American-made Excalibur shells can do that and are compatible with this cannon, French-made Katana shells will have similar performances.
@@zorajevremovic4608 German PZH2000 has reached something like 60km with rocket boosted shells in the early 2000's. But I assume most western artillery with >50 caliber barrel could do that, provided the correct ammunition.
Those ranges are kinda misleading, because theres standard rounds, base bleeder and rockit assist, or light special munitions.
the caesar can : when it stop, shoot in less than 60 seconds, shoot 6 rounds in 60 seconds, can drive away 30s later to another location before the first shell hit target, so in 2min30 it can stop shoot 6times and drive away
I think it was fredrick the great that said that artillery was the king of the battle, our napoleon, i can't be shure

What is it like for maintenance?
Very convenient, it being basically a wheeled truck makes it more reliable than if it had tracks and a lot more easier to service as spare parts are simpler, cheaper and easier to source. Thats a big reason why the French army prefers wheeled over tracks, it allows for a much lighter logistical footprint.
@@redwithblackstripes yep track does not allow rapid movements over long distances and dramaticaly increase the consumption, and the Caesar is made to be light and compact , able to be transported with a C130
To be fair, it seems the barrel itself has to be replaced frequently
@@incassable Depends how much you shoot it but thats true of every barel, it actually was a massive problem in WW1 that isn't much talked about. The Ukrainians are probably good for a while as the CAESAR barels are new and cutting edge metallurgy but its eventually going to be a problem yes.

Why is the velocity radar so important?
I would understand the importance of a radar that can track the trajectory, but what good is the speed alone?
Shell performance may vary from one production batch to another, amongst other things. Velocity radar allow to adjust firing data according to measured velocity.
from bullet weight * velocity you can calculate the trajectory. So you can shoot very precise with different munitions. It only needs tomeasure a couple of centimeters in front of the mezzle. Radar measuring the trajectory directly needs to be very strong to "see" out to several hundred meters.
Mines and artillery have not lost their effectiveness on a modern battlefield. Nor will they ever.
Napoleon Bonaparte would have love that, molding the Prussians into the ground

@@bebobbebob8275 no, faster relocating after firing
Looks like the parallel to the HIMARS system but with conventional ordnance rather than rockets.
Not a big fan of the up and coming Brutus system
how about Caesar Vs Archer? i think Archer is good that the shells can be pre-loaded into its autoloader and then it can be deployed in a hazard area with radiation or poison gas, as the crew can fire and reload the gun, from inside the safety of the cabin and not being exposed to the outside..and the archer system has a remote operated MG on the cabin.

Generally considered to be an excellent gun for many reasons (e.g. accuracy and mobility, rapid deployment and "shoot & scoot" capabilities). However, the Caesar does seem to be experiencing some significant problems (barrel-blooming, other maintenance issues) under the very high-intensity combat conditions characteristic of the Ukraine War. Napoléon und die Grand Armée lassen grüßen...
Mh, it still has been bought but I'm kinda doubtfull about its future. Right now russia seems to be using way less counter artillery radar than expected or ukrainian EW is good enough at degrading it - but I dont think this edge will be forever or even to the end of the decade. We see rn that shoot and scoot is a very very important capability especially if you can not be certain that those assests will be protected from art. Radar and drones while they are active. It would be quite unwise to assume that the russian will make the same mistakes if they ever try get into the baltic, so a better solution would be a wheeled SPG with an autoloader in an armored box or if you have the money and infrastructure might even a tracked one. I think it would be also quite unwise to use a system that is not useable in an NBC envyronment against possible enemys that have NBC weapons.
But also, if you dont have the money for such a solution get this one instead of towed artillery.
Tbf we also dont hear much about Ukrainian losses. Who knows what theyve lost.
Agreed tho, unprotected artillery like this seems a bit questoinable in light of that war.

Archer is a 29 tons system
Caesar I (this Caesar) is a 18 tons system
So please STOP such stupid comparison, products are intented for different use.
Caesar I is VOLUNTARILY a rustic system because it is designed for easy aero transportability with a medium carrier aircraft. This is a very high mobility system designed to escape quickly after fire, so system must be kept light, easy to maintain SO NO COMPLEX THING as autoloader which could be a potential failure .
There is a second version of Caesar, called Caesar II based on a Tatra chassis T815.
There is an autoloader, more ammunition load, but system mass raises to 29 tons.
So Caesar II is more comparable to Archer, but Caesar II is a more modular design, highly customizable according to the client requirements, these are not exactly the same systems.
archer cost twice and need a bigger aircraft to transport (A400M minimimum)
@@fidelio3841 the 8x8 caesar is NOT the caesar 2. And like the 6x6, it retains the ability to be loaded and laid by hand in case of any failure.
