    Question from a young goalie William - How do I not be scared of the ball?
    Pretty common question for young lacrosse goalies since it is the body's natural response to be scared - to protect itself against this 80+mph projectile coming our way.
    In this video I give you some tips and drills to train that fear response out of your system.

    My method might not have been the most reassuring to the school counselor, but for me it was all about my mental space. I would purposely get myself worked up like Bobby Boucher and let fight override flight. I told myself that letting that ball pass me was way more painful than any welts the ball could leave.

    Damn right those bicep shots hurt, first game ever ate a 20 foot crank to the bicep and made me question my decision to play the game.

      A hard shot to the bicep will make you question every decision you've ever made in life

    I’m glad you brought up the padding, my son was asked to be goalie for the season and they pay for the teams pads but we have been struggling to find pads for him to use at home for practice.

    I was a crazy I’m not going to lie actually I still love every bit of getting in a cage and knowing I have zero fear of what your thinking your about to do almost keeps me a step ahead I remember my coach used to have me put my stick behind the goal and I had to stand in the cage with my hands behind my back and walk my steps as he would crank shots from 10-15 ft out and I had to use my body to make the saves then I would have to use a butt end of a short stick and make saves with just the butt end then the short stick and then my goalie stick and I did this drill everyday now the shots that hurt the most were the shins on cold cold days and the ones that graze the ribs in between the arm those heat seeking missles yeah those felt great lol 😂

    I play for a very high level lacrosse team. and I play lacrosse goalie all the time. It's what I do every waking second I get, my biggest downfall. I hate being shot on in practice. I hate the drills where the run down on me close up and fire as hard as possible. I want to be an amazing goalie, and this is never a problem in the game. I have played for a while, but I always hate practices. I can't be high level if I can't bring my beast mode to practice like I do in games because practices are key. I believe that if I can shake the fear of practice, that I can be very good. HELP! lol

    I've always been against using softer balls in practice. Eventually real balls are going to hit them (in a game?) and then they're not prepared for it.... I feel you just have to learn to love the bruise. It means you made a save!

    • @LaxGoalieRat
      @LaxGoalieRat  Рік тому

      I'm a Strong disagree on this one. Games you see like 20 shots? Of which maybe 1-2 hit you. Practice you’re seeing hundreds of shots and depending on drill a lot in close. In practice adrenaline isn’t running and a solid calf, bicep, or thigh shot can take the wind out of your sails. Yes bruises are saves and I love em but also why not avoid them if you can. Technique wise there is no difference saving a soft lacrosse ball vs normal lacrosse ball.

    this is a really weird warmup i made that will help with this
    it’s called *bodyball*
    throw a tennis ball lightly at a wall and let it hit you
    start hitting it harder each time until you can let it hit you naturally

      Bruh play goalie then, if you are fine with taking cranks and your teams goalie isn’t that good, do it. That is half the training of goalie.
