I received my first Holy Communion in 1961. I clearly remember the fully-habited nun telling my class that once the host is consecrated, it’s so sacred that only a priest, whose hands had been consecrated by a bishop, could touch it, and only between the tips of his thumb and forefinger. In recent years, I’ve asked several priests what had changed since then. None has ever given me a satisfactory answer; one even made a joke about it. Another priest even told me that receiving Communion while kneeling was - his own word - “demeaning.” And then our bishops, at least here in the USA, wonder why, according to the latest figures, about 70% of regular Mass attendants don’t believe in the Real Presence.
Made my Holy Communion at the same time in Catholic Ireland as it was at the time. I was told exactly the same unfortunately with vat 2 it has become worship of man and not God... Thankfully Our Lord has left us with many wonderful traditional priests who carry on with reverence
Fr Brendan, have just stumbled across this channel, and it has quickly become my favorite. If only we had more straight talking holy men such as yourself, our Church would look completely different (for the better!). May God Bless you abundantly.
While going to receive Holy Communion at Sunday Mass yesterday I felt obliged to receive Him in the hand as everyone was doing and as the Priest expected until I saw a man dropping the Eucharist on the ground, picking it up from ground and proceeding. No one bat an eyelid. I proceeded to receive Him on the tongue forcing the priest to raise his head. Reverence for the Eucharistic must be restored and proper respect given to Him truly present in the Eucharist for the church to grow .Thanks Father.
Communion in the hand and Eucharistic ministers have distroyed faith in the real presence.....I was a Eucharistic minister until through the grace of God that I realisedI was helping in that distruction and desecration..I repented of it ,I quit doing it and now make reparation to the Sacred Heart for doing it .....so please keep praying for peoples conversion as it changed my heart....no unconsecrated hands to touch the Host ever! Thank you Fr for putting it loudly and clearly
And we need to stop using the term “Eucharistic minster “ only the priest is the minister of the Eucharist . These abominations are known as “extraordinary ministers of holy communion “ only
@@Beanbag777 and were supposed to be only required in absolutely extraordinary situations. I have seen priests sit down and leave the giving out the communion entirely to the ' Eucharistic minister', who is almost always a woman.
I confessed being a Eucharist minister. The priest didn't want to hear that it was a sin. I never wanted to do it, was asked to do it and said no at first, but they convinced me that I should. I always knew I wasn't worthy, no consecrated hands! Anyways, after he told me that it wasn't a sin, I explained how the Eucharist at that church was found left in the pews was because of me, he understood. I handed out Jesus to non Catholics (unknowingly) and they left Jesus heart alone and uncared for. What if I had allowed someone to leave a baby in the pew? I'm so sorry. I never receive in the hand anymore. Kneeling and on the tongue. BTW the priest was sad, because he struggles with this at funerals. Lord have mercy on us!
Really some piece of an alter rail should be brought back so that old fogies like me can kneel and recieve properly, kneeling and on the tongue.i believe a lot of reparation needs to be made for sins against the Holy Eucharist. It's even worse with some still wearing masks, all the movement that needs to be made to get the Blessed Sacrament into the mouth. God bless you Fr.
Excellent excellent video Father, well scripted and well presented. The early Christians who received on the hand bent their head and consumed with the mouth from the cupped hand, they didn’t use their other hand to take the Eucharist and place in their mouth. I would just add that a good confession opens the graves of the Eucharist. You can receive kneeling on the tongue but without the state of grace the Eucharist doesn’t enter the soul.
Thank you Father, I would ask you if you would do a video about the importance of confession before receiving holy communion as I fear a lot of people may be receiving in a state of mortal sin and they may not be aware of this because sin isn't realy talked about in the church nor is the importance of confession, thanks again Father for your great work.
A very moving truth spoken thank you for this truth has I have been refused Holy communion on the tougne and when I received on the hand I did licked my hand and fingers ps I also once at mass when every one was gone I spotted the host on the floor so I reverently knelt and prayed God help us thank you Father for your honest sinserty praying for priests like you God bless you
Since Covid, we are not allowed to receive Jesus on the tongue. When I asked the Superior if I could do it, he said no. It makes me incredibly sad. Priests should speak up on these issues in the Churches. That's where people need to hear these things. God bless.
I ve just phoned the Scottish bishops conference regarding this as this is where I live lol, and they ve said it's up to the parish priest. Probably not going to happen then as he thinks I m living in the past and old fashioned anyway
Received it the proper way throughout end of covid(when all churches were full of masks and yellow covid barrier 🚧 tape) in a Latin mass full to capacity with no masks here in Ireland but was guided to the church in question by a guy on an anti covid lockdown protest. The beautiful church was 2 long bus trips away from me and it was the first time I'd ever been to a Latin Mass and the experience was what I would call deeply spiritual in a way I have never known before or since
Oh, thanks for this video, Father! God bless you! I live in Canada, and it was only a couple of months ago that we were allowed to receive Holy Communion on the tongue again in our diocese. For months upon months I abstained because the priests of our diocese were “not allowed” to distribute Communion on the tongue-even though I shared your point often: it IS more sanitary to receive on the tongue than in the hand. There were a few times that I was able to receive on the tongue from a random “disobedient” priest, but mostly I just made spiritual communions. I also incorporated the act of spiritual communion in my morning and evening prayers. When I was finally allowed to receive on the tongue again, I was “overcome with Paschal joy!” Only those with consecrated hands should touch Our Blessed Lord in Holy Communion. And while we’re at it, let’s bring back the exorcised salt on the tongue of the baby in the rite of baptism, in preparation to receive Him in Holy Communion.
Thank you, Father, from a Yank across the pond. This was a great message about our faith and most importantly the Eucharist. I wish our Priests were as clear as you are here. You will be in my prayers. God bless you.
Perhaps one or two sentences of catechesis with every homily would help the laity with this. Just a thought. Thank you, Father. God Bless your work and Priesthood.
Thank you Father for speaking out on this issue. I see profound irreverence at every Sunday Mass, and it is painful to witness. You are right that lack of catechesis is one of the core reasons for this problem. How do we get our parish priests to focus on this important issue?
I think if at all possible immaculata productions should prioritize doing a series of videos of basic catechisis for people who are more or less beginners in the faith. It’s hard to change the lack of reverence for the Eucharist and other problems without being able to point people to some resources which explain the basics to them about the sacraments in a way which is relatable( American resources aren’t ideal for Irish people)
The priest who says Mass should always instil in the congregation the awesome Real Presence in the Blessed Sacrament. Otherwise where do they get their catechesis? School, not nowadays?
Thank you Fr. for speaking on the importance of receiving the precious Body and Blood of Christ on the tongue. It is lovely to hear a Priest talk on this topic and to make people aware of the importance of how the Eucharist should be received. The paten should be introduced again .
Dear Father Kilcoyne thank you for this In my humble opinion, this is the thing that will bring back belief in The Real Presence. Thought provoking, and you are correct. I believe that we do need to begin as priests, frequently we are less then Good Witnesses to the abiding real presence of Christ, the Son of God, the second person of the Blessed Trinity in the Holy Eucharist. Thank you for being a disturbing presence in the life of the Church. The Holy Spirit comes to comfort the disturbed and to DISTURB the comfortable. Fr Damian.
My husband.r.i.p. Was made an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion. He was so thrilled to be asked and he went out and bought books on the Eucharist so as to make himself worthy of such a role. Please God he is in heaven after all his suffering.
It must be a great consultation to remember your husband so dedicated and faithful to his Catholic Faith. May he Rest In Peace. I attend the Holy Mass in the Latin Rite, so we receive Holy Communion kneeling and on the tongue. In the Novus Ordo as you know most people receive on the hand. All the answers to your questions , are very well explained on the internet, taken from a Catholic teaching. Take care and God Bless
Thank you Father for encouraging us to receive Jesus in Holy Communion on the tongue. I know we will be persecuted as I always have been by receiving kneeling and on tongue. May we persevere in faith in giving due reverence to Jesus truly present in Holy Eucharist God bless you Father! May you make more videos on this. Viva Cristo Rey!
Fr. You are absolutely right. In LifeSiteNews they have a group of people who state, “ Out Of love and respect due to our Lord I always receive Communion kneeling and on the tongue”. Yes Our Lord is truly Present Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity in the Holy Communion. There are many Eucharistic Miracles happened across the world. Viva Cristo Rey
I always thought as the apostles received it in their hands that receiving in the hand was more traditional. How did the apostles receive the first Eucharist? Were the apostles consecrated priests at that time? How did they give out the Eucharist in the early Church? Also why do some people make the sign of the cross after they receive ? Is that correct?
Last Sunday I attended Mass in my nephew’s diocese. As is my custom I put my tongue out to receive Holy Communion but Father said to me “on the hand”. I’d never heard that before but I’d heard about it. Therefore I stood firm and when directed to step aside and wait I raised my eyes to Saint Joseph who’s statue was providentially right in front of me and prayed for protection. As the line wore on interminably (nobody sat out Communion in this church) I prepared myself for bloodless martyrdom at the hands of liberal usurpers but finally at the end the priest placed the Eucharist on my tongue without any fuss. I was the only one to not receive in the hand, but the reason in this parish and many others according to my nephew’s father in law was fear of COVID. Go figure.
I'm In my 50s and have never received on the hand. When we were told to receive on the hand during the restrictions I attended Mass as usual and didn't go to Communion. There were occasions when I was able to receive on the tongue. I was surprised to see so many who previously received on the tongue now receive on the hand. Since the restrictions have been lifted some Priests are still refusing to give Communion on the tongue. I follow a great Priest here on UA-cam Fr Chad Ripperger and he said its is better to not receive Communion at all than to receive it wrongly. He said even Priests say a prayer before Communion so they are not disrespecting the Blessed Sacrament when the themselves receive "May the receiving of your Body and Blood, Lord Jesus Christ, not bring me to judgement and condemnation, but through your loving mercy be for me protection in mind and body and a healing remedy'.
To receive Jesus spiritually in holy communion because of fear of offending Him due to persecution ( being refused kneeling & on ton gue), restrictions, or other etc, etc you will receive even more graces than normal, God sees & knows everything.
Father I went back to Latin Mass last July and it was the best move I ever made, the reverence, honour and respect shown to Jesus is so beautiful. Never would I attend the Novus Ordo again as I used to watch the lines of people walking up the aisle or the laity who should under no circumstances handle the Sacred Body of Christ come down, they were like they were lining up for a goody bag yet on Saturday maybe six/seven people waiting for confession. But nothing is said by the priests and sin us no longer mentioned at the NO. Thank you Father for your beautiful talk🙏♥️💙
Maureen, sin is regularly mentioned at the Ordinary Form. It's unworthy to caricature it in this way. You also have no idea of anyone's interior dispositions or spiritual state by looking at them.
HELL YES, BRILLIANT, love it, The KING OF KINGS, is in the host, Our Lady told us that if people knew what was in the host they would break down the doors to receive, ADORE our King🥰
Body Blood Soul and Divinity!.. what more can we say..On our knees, on our tongue..no other way for the King of Kings who humbled Himself on the cross us..we can humble ourselves to receive Him on our knees and on our tongue..Thank You Jesus, praise You Jesus!
I travel 40 minutes away to York for the latan Mass iam not better then anyone else I just felt this is were I was meant to be has I started to wear the mantilla god love you for bringing this talks to a nation that needs to here gospel truth 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Thanks Fr. Brendan for addressing the very sad reality of constant offense to God through the receiving of the holy Eucharist in an unworthy manner. Your brother priests are very much to blame for the situation both in their reluctance to teach the faithful and in their insistence that you must receive on the hand. This is one reason why I am seeing a huge increase in attendance at the Latin mass. I have never been refused communion on the tongue but perhaps that's because I wait until the very end and then present myself. The priest has no reason to refuse me then.
Thanks for your gentle talk on Enoch Burke. At last a priest has spoken out and shown support for his views. Its as if he is being persecuted because of his Christian principles. Why should we allow the secular world impose its ways and beliefs upon us.Fr Noel Brown SPS S.Sudan.Thanks for your input.
Blessed are those who receive Holy Communion by tongue, kneeling first before... May all the priest like this, distributing to the people and faithful by tongue, let us pray for them and for everyone to take courage to give Honour to the Lord and Master Who is truly present in the Holy Echarist and in all the tabarnacles in the world...
Thank you Father. Please make those 20 recordings, maybe then the penny will drop with the clergy and the laity of the sacredness of the Holy Eucharist.
Thank you, Father Brendan! A much needed message for today, indeed! Continued prayers for you, all at Immaculata Productions, and all of our clergy around the world. God bless!
@@jenyoung2473 that’s a horrible thing to say who does he think he is 😡. Name and shame him. He cannot refuse you . Church discipline allows for reception on the tongue . If you are refused report it to the bishop immediately

Fr, one of the reasons I go to latin Mass is so I can receive Holy Communion on the tongue. In the past 6 months when I attended the NO Mass, I saw the Blessed Sacrament dropped in the floor 3 times! 😥 I have also seen people being refused communion on the tongue.
Thank you Fr. Brendan. What can we do when the Bishop has forbade recieving on the toungue? Do you teach your parishioners on the true presence?? The majority of the laity have no knowledge of this fact, let alone how to recieve reverently.
Tell him for the reverence toward Jesus Christ, I must receiving on the tongue. Tell your parisioners read a book called "The Way of Divine Love" of Sister Josefez Melendez. Our Lord complain to her that he loved us so much want to save us from hell, so he willing to trapped in the tabernacle for thousands years .....really, you will change your way to adore Christ immediately.
Father Brendan. Thank you for this video, I have been through torment as I always received on the tongue until covid 19 and at one point stopped receiving our lord because of fear of particles of his body being desecrated, and I wept when I could not receive my lord and saviour. I wondered if you would consider speaking about the laity being Eucharistic Ministers? I understand Father if that is too controversial a topic to tackle. I am just quite heartbroken over it all. God bless you.😇🙏
So glad you brought this up father Brendan.I was a .minister of the Eucharist for years.I n late years I became a reader. Then as it happened that we started having communion services. It was conducted by a married deacon. The same deacon was readi g the gospels at the mass. I have been thinking g very recently about this. How come Only deacons can read the gospels when women can give out the Eucharist.I k ow now how this leads to the impossible but the probable idea of women becoming deacons.God forbid. The priesthood is forever the Priest of Meltisadeck.
I receive on the hand, once I received only on the tongue but Fr. Thady at god’s cottage made clear why he prefers the band just as buoy prefer tongue. Opinions are simply that, opinions but thanks for blogging it🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I've had so many hosts crumble in my hand, I've now taken to sucking up any particle and usually give my hand a quick hoover and visual inspection. Glad to hear I'm not nuts
One time I saw an old man take the Eucharist with him back to his seat. I watched him and waited for him after mass and he still had it in his hand. I told the priest and pointed out the old man. The priest said "You Sir, give me that!". The priest took the host from the old man and consumed it right on the spot. It was clear that the old man had dementia and was not in his right mind. Ever since then, I became hyper vigilant watching communicants receive hold communion to spot any abuses. This became a problem for me because I could no longer concentrate on prayer or make an act of contrition. I eventually stopped watching for abuses because it was giving me a neurosis.
Good video people have lost all reverence and respect for the Eucharist , Sadly kids are not being taught in schools and sadly the Church is not teaching people
Thank you good Father. I appreciate your analogy completely. And will give it my best shot. May we glow and melt in and thru the most Holy Sacrament of the altar. Praised be the most precious body and blood of Jesus Christ our Lord and saviour.
Why does it seem so easy for people to respect, revere and almost worship other humans (eg royalty, presidents, celebrities etc) but when it comes to our God and Maker, we are so cavalier? Is it because most people don't really believe in the transubstanciation?
Actually what the server carries is called the communion plate. The paten is generally touched only by the celebrant. Note that I use the present tense.
I'm a very eager Catholic, but I'm absolutely hopeless at the eager part. I do have a fear of the Eucharist and the blood of our lord in the chalice. I'm terrified of taking either because, I'm not worthy, I'm a sinner, I would need to spend eternity in purgatory for my satisfaction of being pure without a blemish before I could enter heaven. I do think the wine changing into the blood of our lord is a major loss by church goers. Half of our lord is not fully our lord and saviour. God bless you father.
We really should be going back to receiving on the tongue, I think, and receiving reverently. Very simple and also would help people realise again the significance of what they are doing and the respect that is due to the Eucharist as it is Our Lord's Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity. Very simple actions but the way in which we treat the Eucharist programmes the way in which we think about it and respect it. I think it is a very simple move to be made but would make a huge difference once again.
Yes mi always check the hand that the host is placed on. Just in case there a crumb. I have found a few once or twice. It’s immediately a lick off that hand. Each crumb is Corpus Christi.
I don't think it's any accident that the rain thundered down Midway through this video and it's not superstition that I speak from..it's knowing that that was an actual sign from God...❤️🙏🕊️
I feel so sad when I see the priest using sanitizer before giving out Holy Communion and again after Holy Communion.....the Lord is the great healer so why be so afraid of contamination......God forgive them for they know not what they do.....Jesus I trust in You🙏🙏🙏
It's a pity the rest of the clergy are not addressing this as you are. Even the bishops. I have read the indult that was introduced to allow communion in the hand. There are conditions attached to the indult which in my view are almost impossible to meet without committing sacralidge or desecration with regard to the host. People are not cathechised about the indult and conditions attached. The bishops need to step up to the mark here and ensure the congregation are fully informed about the indult and also children before their first communion. Most people think that communion in the hand is the norm and on the tongue is the exception. What they don't know is it's actually the other way round, and, communion on the tongue and kneeling is still the proper and prefaired way of reception by the Vatican.
I too am Irish and I love you Father! You tell it like it is!

Thank you so much Fr.
For a greater devotion to The Holy Eucharist, Jesus I Trust in You. Prayers continue for the mystical body of Christ 🌹🙏
@11.26 and then the Heavens open! Looks like God Himself is backing you up Fr. Kilcoyne
You won't go wrong if you follow Fr. Ripperger He is a true priest
@@maolsheachlannoceallaigh4772 Not the Chapel I attend.
Totally agree with you 👍🏻
Agreed
Thank you, Father. My, . . . that was quite a storm going on during your presentation! ⛈ ☔
Outstanding talk father. TRUTH is always so compelling!
God bless
That is the beauty of the Traditional Mass. The N.O is just heartbreaking to see the way our Divine Saviour is treated. A Pater for you Fr.
Wonderful thank you Father
Thank you so much
Why am I not allowed to receive Holy Eucharist on my tongue....I would much prefer this...
Try a different parish or look for a Latin mass in your area
Thank you father for the truth
Viva Cristo Rey!
May our Lord Jesus Christ forgive and heal the whole world!🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Blessed are those who receive Holy Communion by tongue, kneeling first before...
May all the priest like this, distributing to the people and faithful by tongue, let us pray for them and for everyone to take courage to give Honour to the Lord and Master Who is truly present in the Holy Echarist and in all the tabarnacles in the world...
Our priests won’t even distribute the Holy Host!!! What do we do??? I am reduced to tears thinking of this terrible situation!! Please what do we do?
Thank you Father. Please make those 20 recordings, maybe then the penny will drop with the clergy and the laity of the sacredness of the Holy Eucharist.
Thank you, Father Brendan! A much needed message for today, indeed! Continued prayers for you, all at Immaculata Productions, and all of our clergy around the world. God bless!
THANK YOU THANK YOU FATHER 🙏🏻 so needed to hear this! God Bless
We should be taking communion the old way, kneeling and on the tongue. Am I right in saying a lot of priests don't want it done this way though?
Yes because they don’t believe it is Christ Truly presence and think we are just being scrupulous.
My parish priest says I m old fashioned and not in unity with everyone else so I won't be allowed it I expect
@@jenyoung2473 that’s a horrible thing to say who does he think he is 😡. Name and shame him. He cannot refuse you . Church discipline allows for reception on the tongue . If you are refused report it to the bishop immediately
@@Beanbag777 unfortunately we don't have one at the moment...our progressive one was made archbishop of Glasgow. So we are praying for a good orthodox one to come along
@@Beanbag777 thank you for your support. He doesn't give commu ion out anyway. Might just ask the extraordinary minister of holy communion who is used even if there are only 2 of us in Mass
Thank you Father!!!
God bless u father
Thanks for giving me hope.
For these reasons I could never see myself being an extraordinary minister of the Eucharist
I wish all the Priest say this before Mass every Sunday, in fact every day
Father Brendan.
Love you, Father!
I receive on the hand, once I received only on the tongue but Fr. Thady at god’s cottage made clear why he prefers the band just as buoy prefer tongue. Opinions are simply that, opinions but thanks for blogging it🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Fantastic video Fr. Thank you for doing this and please do some more.
I've had so many hosts crumble in my hand, I've now taken to sucking up any particle and usually give my hand a quick hoover and visual inspection. Glad to hear I'm not nuts
"From your hand to my tongue Lord Jesus." Is how I ask Him to step in and perfect any abuses of His precious body.
Amen!
If people and priests don’t believe in the real presence in the first place then who is going to teach them .
I'll give it my best shot, Father. Ty God bless
You are 100pc right Father, what has happened to our beloved Church, all this has happened after Vatican two✝️🇮🇪🕊☘️🙏
At the Holy Mass I attend, the server holds the patten under our chins whilst we receive the Holy Eucharist on the tongue and knelt at the altar rail.
Thankyou Father, for telling us the undeniable truth, Jesus deserves the greatest reverence we can give him in the Holy Eucharist. God bless you.
I am now receiving the Eucharist on the tongue but am uncomfortable when they accidentally touch my tongue. This has happened quite a few times.
Thank you Father.
I can't wait until we can receive on the tongue again🙏
So right Fr. Thanks for this!
Good video people have lost all reverence and respect for the Eucharist , Sadly kids are not being taught in schools and sadly the Church is not teaching people
you have said the truth
Thank you good Father. I appreciate your analogy completely. And will give it my best shot. May we glow and melt in and thru the most Holy Sacrament of the altar. Praised be the most precious body and blood of Jesus Christ our Lord and saviour.
Father strangely well said.
Why does it seem so easy for people to respect, revere and almost worship other humans (eg royalty, presidents, celebrities etc) but when it comes to our God and Maker, we are so cavalier? Is it because most people don't really believe in the transubstanciation?
Comment to support to algorithm folks!
The only place I can receive Holy communion is at the Latin Mass on the South Circular Road Dublin a true Church of Christ Thank you Father
I go to TLM and receive on the tongue while kneeling and yes the server holds the paten under my chin.🤦♀️
The truth about the Eucharistic is the Church's best kept secret. Great to hear this wonderful miracle mentioned .
Father did you give this woman the Eucharist into her hand in the first place - about time to bring this abuse to an end
What's the churches stance on a divorci ..twice married woman being a eucharistic minister???
