Unfortunately most Priests these days only preach what the congregation want to hear, not what they need to hear. When then someone like this wonderful Fr Sheehy speaks the absolute God Ailmighty truth it hits a raw nerve with a lot that are only luke warm in their faith. God bless & protect Fr Sheehy 🙏
That sums up the situation, 50 years of watered down luke warm insipid "religion", and when we hear the genuine article, well, we get all upset and have to walk out.
When I was training to be a salesman they told me that you can never motivate another person, You can only motivate yourself and hope that it catches fire. That seems a great truth for all religious people.
The genius of Catholic theology and the Divine Law is that they only judge actions, and never people! It gives clarity about deeds and harm caused by our actions, it does not condemn people. Fr Damian
AMEN!!! A man very close to me is gay, and I've always explained my faith like you are doing. The Church needs to say this more, we don't condemn people. We have to be able to teach people how to "act" as catholics, we must.
read the conversations with god books 1 ,2 and 3 ,the catholic church is full of priest that hurt children and the priest cover it up ,did god give us freewill or did god give us counterfeit freewill ,if doing freewill produces punishment in any way shape or form that would render freewill counterfeit, throw the bull shit bible in the bin
I think you are right Father. People have been leaving Catholic schools for the last fifty years with very little knowledge of what the Church actually teaches and until Catholic schools become Catholic again things will continue as are or will only get worse.
Father Brendan, thanks for not throwing Father Sheehy under the proverbial bus. The man spoke the truth. Those who walked out could not handle the truth. Unfortunately, neither could the Bishop. Please keep pitching. God love you, From Texas
Thank you father, we all need to look at ourselves in the mirror and take long look at ourselves and our sinful ways, we then need to be honest with self go to confession and live what we want to see come about in our country . Lots of good happening too thanks be to God and people like you speaking truth, I see more care for the poor and to me poor can be poor in spirit which is worse than poor in material though we should never want to see someone without basic needs of shelter, food and clothing....
Anyone going to mention how his bishop threw his priest under the bus for preaching the Gospel? I really feel like the Bishop needs to know what he did was wrong
God bless Fr. Seán , he spoke the truth and the truth hurts! As deciples of Jesus we will be ridiculed but we must stay focused and keep spreading the word of God . We need more emphasis and education on the sacrament of reconciliation the only way back to God is through the sacrament of confession
Thank you father for a proper, deep analysis. Sadly, this inability to separate the sin from the sinner among the general public and parts of the church brought us where we are now. This is why sin is justified and accepted without any spiritual warfare or willingness to improve.
Profound Commentary.. Thank you Father Brendan. Your explanation of the Catholic position was beautiful.. If only the Bishop of Kerry responded in like manner instead of his, frankly craven and pathetic throwing of Fr Sean to the wolves.
If he is warning them of the protentional of eternal damnation, he did well. True we do not judge souls, that's God's work. But we must encourage virtue and condemn vice. The problem with church in modern times is we are so focused on welcoming LGBTQ+ that we loose sight of the real call to holiness.

Start with educating Bishop Browne, of the Diocese of Kerry, Father. He has the means to know exactly the moral teaching of the Church. Yet, yet, he shot the messenger in the back. Bishop Browne is the problem and he needs to consider his position and resign - or publicly apologise and immediately reinstate Father Sheehy to public ministry.
So Father, where does this leave the Bishops of Kerry and Cork and Ross who are in agreement with our Government, who are ignorant of the Catholic Teachings, there needs to be clarification, the faithful are entitled to know where the Bishops stand on this, personally, I fear they are afraid to stand up for the faith of our fathers, thank you Father for wisdom 🙏🕊
Of course, the Irish Bishops Conference are petrified. They seek to appease the State/Politicians - by remaining schtum. This policy of appeasement ensures that those clergy who do profess the truth run the serious risk of being stabbed in the back like Father Sheehy was by Browne. Personally I think any chance of saving the faith and restoring the Church, falls to the Irish Laity. Rightly or wrongly.
Thank you for your courage Father. Hate is never justified. Human dignity is at the forefront of our faith, whether it concerns a child just conceived or a struggling adult. We are all sinners, each and every one of us. God doesn’t have some kind of love hierarchy, preferring his morally upright children to those who fall frequently. He goes out looking for the sinner to bring him back. Beautiful how you described the Church as the safest place. What could be safer than cradled in your loving Father’s arms?
They're not interested in what the church has to say Fr. about anything, in particular lgbt, trans, and abortion. They want the church to shut up and go away.
Actually, Bishop Cullinan of Waterford and Lismore did respond, in an interview with the Minster Express, a local newspaper. He pointed out that it was illogical of those, who insist on the right to their own moral code, , to deny that same right to Fr Sheehy. He asked "why are some expressions of opinion not allowed. Is it because they upset our consciences? Or because we feel strong enough to silence weaker opponents?". This is not the first time Bishop Cullinan has broken ranks with his fellow bishops. He does not criticise them directly, but he manages to make clear that he himself is on the traditional wing of the Church. And thank God for that!
A fresh angle on this, Fr Brendan. Thank you. Just thinking, if the failure of even the highly intelligent rank and file to understand the difference between person and act can be somewhat explained by the woeful catechesis of the last 50 years, how are we to understand the actions of Bishop Browne of Kerry?
Fr Sheehy was not personally harsh as he was clearly stating church teachings. A classic case of shoot the messenger! The Irish clergy leaders need to be clear in their messages and support their priests when they are being clear in the Catholic faith and its teachings
7:07 50 years of vacuous catechesis; it's pitiful sometimes when I talk to adults and some question of Catholic teaching comes up and we're all clueless but curious. How is it the innate curiosity of people wasn't tapped into by the Church?
To me it's perfectly clear - highly intelligent people absolutely do know the difference between sin and sinner, but they would rather continue to muddy the waters due to their own hostility towards the Church. Then there's others, who do not like to hear that certain sexual acts are sinful and that they should be acceptable. For people in this category, it won't make any difference how intelligent they are, they get it, they just don't accept it.
I do wonder about that. can we ever actually separate the act from the person who does it? Can an act happen on it's own? And in another view, do acts get judged and sent to either heaven or hell, or do people?
Does the church define a list of sins/ categories of sin which are intrinsically mortally sinful due to the fact that they are against the natural law?. In other words if a person committed one of the sins listed by Fr Sheehy despite being unintentionally ignorant of the church’s teachings on these issues would it still be a mortal sin?
