I was talking about showing with a friend today and i immediately had to go find a video of WGC CH Skywatch. The most amazing horse I ever had the privilege to watch show. Beauty, power and overall outstanding! Wow!
OHHHH.....MY.....GAWWWWD!!!!! THE SPEED....THE ACTION....THE HEAD CARRIAGE....THE REACH...THE SMOOTH UNHINGED RACKING RIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE OF THE ARENA!!!! INDESCRIBABLE TO WITNESS!!! EVEN ON UA-cam, SKYWATCH STILL BRINGS IT HOME RIGHT DOWN TO YOUR VERY CORE!!! YEAH BOY!!!
Motored right past Impetrator like he was standing still in PERFECT form...that horse used 100% of his body in every gait...alot of people argue that Impetrator was technically a better 5 gait horse...but you couldn't take your eyes off Sky...unbeatable on the reverse.
Great memories, Mitch. I remember you calling Sarge at the Executive Inn the next day. You had just blown everybody away with perhaps the greatest 5-gt WGC performance ever. We all knew it was history being made and that we had seen it with our own eyes! We all huddled up to watch it on TV in our hotel rooms on Sunday! (Remember the old days?!) Such a thrilling time and I will always be so proud and honored that I can say I was there. Congratulations a thousand times over! - Ralph Sidway (Sarge's assistant and printer).

This was an AMAZING BEAST!!!! We have his Grandson Sky Millenium. His Great Grandson Southern Sky ("LIL MAN") was put down this week. My heart is completely out of my chest. I had to watch this video to keep the will to keep going. We still have a few with this bloodline but He was my little brother. This horse saved my life against a charging mare once. This is the same mare that broke in on him and broke his pelvis. I will see you on the other side Little brother.
He was a wonderful horse to watch. I remember seeing him here, and shows too. Mitch would hold him back from entering the ring until they were threatening to close the gates and then here he would come sweeping through the in gate like a freight train.
The crowd would just go wild. When you had Skywatch, Imperator and French Commander in the ring, you had a battle. Just the stuff dreams are made of.
Absolutely, I was a girl when my mother took me to the Saddlebred Champioships. I feel blessed to have seen all those horses in the ring. Imperator vs Skywatch was always amazing (my heart belongs to Imperator though). Always the battle of finesse vs power.
Clearly this horse worked his heart out for Mitch! Amazing is just not enough word for this horses action!
Thank you Mitch for posting this. I was so lucky to have been in Louisville & watched this battle in person. It still gives me chills & makes my heart race!! I have never seen a horse come close to having the power & perfection that CH Skywatch had and have never seen a saddlebred presented & shown better!! Very proud to be an American Saddlebred fan.

I was there for all his Louisville wins and I still get chills - I was absolutely hoarse each time. The most perfect moving horse I've ever seen. Even my non-horsey husband has tons of stills of him from a show in AZ.

Fastest racking horse I’ve ever seen.I wish I lived during his lifetime,but I’m only 13.They were showing some videos of home after a night session at Louisville one time,he truly was amazing.It is hard to find an American Saddlebred without him somewhere in their ancestry

Imperator got smoked every time out!
His trainer stayed on the rail to much.
No as I remember in 85 skywatch was getting his ass beat by perry and had to leave the ring using the I think he going lame excuse so please research WGC in 80 81 85 86 also with reserve WG Championships in other years and WGC gelding at least 8 or 9 times imperator sure as heck was no slouch definitely one of the most beautiful saddlebreds of all time.
@@dannypolk556 He wasn’t getting beat at all. Sky Watch was visibly limping after the first trot on the workout and Mitch took the gait like any trainer would. He never lost a class to Imperator outside of this and I hardly consider this a loss.
