I graduated in 1969 from Pacoima Jr. High, I even had the honor to play in the same auditorium and on stage that Ritchie played. I came back to live in the city I was raised in after 20 years and this is home, somewhat changed but my house where I grew up in holds the memories.
My family was born and raised in San Fernando/Pacoima...including myself. Donna was in my Uncles class when it came over the P.A. that he was killed. This was at San Fernando High School.
Check these pictures from LA Times archive, see what you think. That's one hell-of-a school playground. Things are not adding up somewhere with this, just trying to piece it together. I went to this school in 1995 when I was in 7th grade. Part of the math magnum program. I lived in Silverlake and was suppose to go to King Middle School but I took a school bus everyday to here. My elemantry school (Ivanhoe elm.) was one of the last schools to change from K-6 to K-5. I was part of the last group that was in 6th grade at elementary school) I believe that's when this middle school first started requiring all students wear school uniforms. Black pants and a white polo shirt was all we were allowed to wear. I hated it. Also we always made fun of our initials being PMS. Our school newsletter would say something like "Santa Claus is coming to PMS" and we would find that so funny.
With the entire school being enclosed by a massive fence it looks more like a juvenile detention center than a school! How come they do that? Is the neighborhood dangerous or something?
There is a Plaque in the Auditorium of Ritchie .. I was a bus driver @ Pacoima & SF HS LAUSD ... Also There was few actors who went to Pacoima Christian Applegate from The Bundys ..
I was just starting in the 7th grade in 67', scared as heck I could not get my locker open. To the right of me was this beautiful blond student body president in her locker and she saw I was new and scared, she told her friends to go ahead and said can I help? She helped me open my locker and said don't worry you will get it, and don't be too scared I was also when I started. The girl was Colleen Camp who went on to become a well known actress in television and movies, I never forgot that day.
Isn't crazy how this child knew a horrific plane crashed above his school, killing his classmates...which in return, caused him a fear of flying...only to die in a plane crash, himself. So ironic & crazy... & His success came fast because his time was limited.
I wish they would do a big budget film that includes all the stars. and base it on all facts from who witnessed the tour, family, ect . from what valens family stated Labomba the movie wasn't very accurate..with all the up to date film making I would love to see a film based on true events..the movies were good don't get me wrong but ive researched alot and Hollywood didn't give buddy, richie justice on facts. the movie I would love to see would include the big bopper since there hasn't been one on him and include the tour, what they went through. how they got there. ect. but RiP to all who lost their lives.
Oh wow I didn’t know the plane crash actually happened. I haven’t seen it in a long time, I’m only going by the movie, I thought he was just having a premonition nightmare or something.
