  • Welcome back to my channel! In this video, I chat about my week in and out of the sewing room. I had a very productive week in the sewing room. I basted my Pulse Quilt, finished my Gilbert top and hem facing tutorial, made the Aeroplane Bag and recorded the zipper tape tutorial and made myself a new Chorus Top by Love Notions. In this video, I share my thoughts on the top and the pattern.

For baby gifts I like to make blankets. I buy 1 1/4 years of a cotton and a flannel. Place wrong sides together, Sew around the edges and flip inside out then topstitch all the way around to close the opening. It covers a car seat and is a great size to throw on the floor for the baby to lay on. I also make burp cloths. You can never have enough burp cloths. I use flannel on one side and flannel or terry cloth on the other side.

Great week Izzy, you put me to shame. Only 1 blouse for me, the sagebrush. Came out really cute. I did do some social things that kept me from sewing and got a new car. Back in the sewing room today. Nice bag, so pretty and useful and your green top is fabulous. I make a similar one Liesl & Co, Easton Cowl neck. Does not hang down as low in the front. Wonder if the construction is the same. I have made several. Burb cloths are so useful and can be so much fun to make. I have made many, usually I give a stack of 6. I use a bath towel for the back and a fun quilting fabric or the front If it’s a boy you can make a Pee Pee Tepee. Have made many of those. I’m sure you can whip them up on Sunday in no time. Include a couple packages of Baby Wipes and that will be perfect.Perfect name for the dress form. Have a great weekend!

The chorus top is beautiful! That color on you is so vibrant. Also the new fabric you got is amazing. Your summer/travel wardrobes are going to just glow on you!
I like the Ellie and Mac grow with me pajamas (free pattern) and they’re pretty quick to whip up. I appreciated getting things in a slightly bigger size (anything between 9-18m). If you do make any clothing or pajamas, I recommend writing the size on a scrap piece of the fabric and sewing it in somewhere as a tag. I didn’t think to do this for Brady’s clothes until about 6 months ago when I realized it’ll be a pain to sort out the sizes of the mama mades if I use them for a future kiddo.

I remember when I had my son, I got a ton of newborn clothes and he never fit in them! He was born at 10 lbs and was 23 inches long. he looked like a 3 month old baby at birth 🤣 Would have been helpful to have a few 6 months clothes!!

I love the tribute you paid to your grandmeres with the name for your dress form! Love the Chorus top, too, the Gilbert top, the quilt backing, the new fabric and the bag to take to the island - a very good week, indeed. I have made burp cloths from cute flannel as a baby gift that were greatly appreciated and easy - lots of tutorials online but in general just make big ones, maybe cut big rectangles out of flannel with flannel inside as well for absorbency, them, stitch around and you don't even need to finish the edges as just like those flannel "rag" quilts, they will kind of finish themselves with some washing and usage. If you want them to look neater, you can certainly turn them inside out, of course and topstitch around the edge to take care of the opening where you turned them.

I’ve used NZ pivot & slide, quite a bit. As a pear shape, pivoting works well on loose styles; however, for a recent fitted Big 4 pattern dress I found that doing an FBA prior to pivoting did the trick. Just pivot & slide only adds horizontally. That’s my experience, anyway. I’ve only used it for bodices. Love your green top! 😊-Deborah
