Interesting to hear your thoughts, also about not using what everyone else is (I recognize myself...). Regarding your low drive search you might want to check out the Kingsley Page tube boost. It's just absolutely fantastic for what I think you're looking for.
This was weirdly ASMRish for me. Limelight is a fantastic pedal - if you're looking for a pedal with less gain/more scope for light gain check out the Fairfield Circuitry Barbershop, I have 2. I completely get what you mean with the Flint, I do have one but it isn't my go to. I would probably have a separate reverb and tremolo, but love a twofer!
I used to share the same philosophy re: pedals, but eventually came to the conclusion that two players could be using the exact same rig and would of course sound different. The Flint is, above all, incredibly utilitarian (you can even get univibe-like sounds from the harmonic trem by setting the speed to its minimum). When you pair the sound quality with its ability to also do presets WITHOUT resorting to MIDI (just a buy a $30 saturnworks favourite switch) its now gotten to the point where the Flint is the only thing ill have on every board no matter the genre! Havent tried the Hydra by Keeley but it seems like the best contender!
Hey Adam, the boss tu3 waza version is all black and can be set truebypass or bufferbypass. I think you will like this version. Sorry for my bad english.
Loved the video, Adam. Really appreciated your insights and a good reminder to think differently. Switcher: Have a look at the AB-Baby by GigRig. It has the phase and ground lift as well as the isolated out. The isolated out is usually most useful to avoid hum if you’re running two amps at once. Ref. the tuner, Peterson now does the Stomp strobe tuner as a mini pedal (as well as another pedal version that is smaller than the Boss). Super accurate (and it’s a black metal case!). You can also choose sweetened tuning, which I have found useful. Edit: I’d second the suggestion of trying a Kingsley Page, from a tone point of view. He (Simon) does a ‘Page TS’ version with a boost, so that’s your two-fer. Throw a spare 12AX7 tube into your luggage just in case, but it’s rare for them to give up the ghost. It will sound fab with your Collings. Mine did have a period of popping in rooms with poor wiring.
It's always an option to change the colour of a (cheap) pedal with a quick coat of paint if you find the original distracting. I used nail polish to paint my boss tuner silver. 😎 That's not a project to try while on the road though.
My mini board is Korg blackout tuner- RCBooster- Bearfoot Honey Bee- Flint. These days I can live with out the Honey bee. Nice to see what you are using and how you view it.
Love the simplicity of this board. Have you checked out the White Whale from Crazy Tube Circuits? It's independent tremolo and reverb with an actual reverb tank in the pedal. Might be a more satisfying alternative to the Milkman F Stop.
The White Whale is really great! But it's too big for my Nano board. Maybe if I used a Polytune Mini tuner and an overdrive with a smaller footprint, like the MXR Sugar Drive - ? But I really do like the voicing of the Limelight. Maybe I need a Nano+ board? Ahhh ...

I haven't had a chance to try the J Rockett Blue Note Tour overdrive. Looks cool! I had their Clockwork delay on my board for awhile and liked it a lot. A friend recommended their Mr. Moto tremolo/reverb, so I'm gonna check it out.

Mr. Levy! Youv'e tried the Temple Duo 17 - not the smaller solo 18. I have the same problems with the Nano: i'ts a little too small. So I've cut down one side with a jigsaw: it's a little bigger now as the nano: for the Golden Reverbrator, Strymon Iridium, Lehle Junior (DI, AB and EQ) and Xotic Super Sweet. And I will give the Flint a try - although the old V1 one seems to have more "charme" - but hte price went up. And I will try a Rimowa Packing Cube L as gigbag. Hi Adam, great stuff man. I love the simplicity of your board, I totally get the whole anxiety issue. I try to use a boost pedal instead of an overdrive. That way I'm using this to overdrive my amp instead of an overdrive. It isn't as flexible as an overdrive though, and I'll have to take care not to play too loud ( I've used attenuators, but I think they take away some tone).
The ST200 is a real “popper” when I use it. I have a suggestion, I think will work for you, reg “drive” - try a Fairfield Barbershop. It is truly amazing when you just need a touch of grit. And it sounds sooo great with a 335 style guitar… ohh btw, you big board looks like a duo17, not solo18 :-)
There are dip switches inside the F-Stop that can change the reverb and tremolo settings. Maybe that will help you get a reverb you're more impressed by - and maybe the previous owner changed it from the default.
Thanks again, Justin. I did some experimenting and landed on a setting that I'm happier with. I couldn't find a manual (PDF) online for the F-Stop pedal, but this video on The Amp was helpful: ua-cam.com/video/QS3VC4ikasE/v-deo.html. If the DIP switches are the same in both, then I'm now in Mode 3: Spring Reverb 2 / Triangle-wave Tremolo (↑↓↓).
Hi Adam, I am using the flint and tried to find another pedal doing the job because I had the idea of having two boards, a big one and a small one. I could not find a box or even two boxes I liked that much as the flint, mainly because the flint allows a smaller decay on the reverb, wich allows me to use more reverb in the mix without messing up my sound when playing rhythmically and fast. I ended up realising the reason almost everyone uses the flint is, because it is doing the job pretty good. And I found out that I don‘t need two boards….. Thank you for your insights, lots of fun and very useful information.

@501chorusecho recently had a video about building your rig around the “Deluxe Rentiverb” - sounds like y’all have arrived at the same conclusion :) I’m curious - do you plug into the normal or vibrato input? I find normal to be quieter and it doesn’t have that annoying bright capacitor.

The Xotic RC Booster V2 may be worth a shot, though if the Boss tuner stands out too much visually, I don't know how you'd feel about the RC V2's chrome finish. :)
I felt the same way about the flynt after i bought one…idk..sometimes i miss it. Using the UA delverb now for delays and verbs and its really killin…i have other pedal options for trem if i want…

Loved the video. How did you power the board? Have the nano loaded with XTS Precision OD, Greer Lightspeed, Jam Pedal Waterfall, Jam Pedal Delay Llama. Also had the Flint, but sold it. Not my thing.
Great video and tips Adam! Really insightful! I just created a board like this and love having the smaller footprint to play through. One question looking at yours, did you have any issues hitting the drive/tremolo buttons, given they are so close together? That is something I always need to think about.

You mentioned in the video that you essentially have one out to the pedals and then to the amp, and the other to a DI and then to the house for the acoustic guitar. Are you using any other pedals in between (separate from this board) for the acoustic, like a volume pedal, an EQ? Is your acoustic going straight to the house? Thanks! Love your playing!
Regarding less drive overdrive, how about no overdrive? An EP Booster by xotic in front of a tube amp is nice. But then again, everyone has them. Thanks for sharing your experience. Love the hat!
I think I need *some* dirt on my board. That pedal is a gem in front of any really good amp. Most "backline" (rental) amps on the road have no personality. I don't think the EP Booster can help them.

The isolated transformer is for removing hum when using two amps.

I usually try all four inputs (Normal 1 / 2; Vibrato 1 / 2) and see which sounds best for that particular amp in that particular room.

12:57 Boss TU-3W . The Wazacraft version of the tuner is black. That extra W does command a premium. I'm not sure what the extra feature/mod is.

No pedals on the acoustic line. It's guitar (w/ passive K&K pickup) to tuner, to ABY, to active DI (like Radial J48 or BSS), to the house.
