- HELLO!!!! It is I Pluto. Welcome to the third song of Pluto season "I Don't DayDream anymore"! So for this song's meaning I shall make a scene. A father and son are in their attic. Father - "Son, enjoy life while it still lasts, youth will go by quick". Son - "Screw you dad". Father - gasp. As the father gasps, a ghost pops up behind them. Ghost - "WHO ARE YOU AND WHY ARE YOU IN MY HOUSE." The father screams. Ghost turns to the father - "I am the ghost of this house, and I say...enjoy life while you still can". The son laughs - see father, you're a plumbusfart. Ghost - "is the plumbing still bad in the house, man I remember sometimes I couldn't poop here?" Father - "of course not, I fixed all the plumbing". Son - "nah he didn't fix anything, it's still horrible." The ghost gets mad, and starts yelling, things start to fly around the attic. The son - "Wake up dad, what the hell are you doing". The father comes back to consciousness, he's in the kitchen. He looks tired. He walked over to the sink to get water, he turns the handle, and no water comes out. He smiles. FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO KNOW THE MEANING OF THIS SONG
(its a pretty lengthy read but bear with me ;-;)
So the name of the song is "I Don't Daydream Anymore". Daydreaming is a sort of childish act, so it's not always well received when an adult is caught daydreaming, especially in a professional setting.
Summary:
In the story, the man is trying to give his son valuable life advice, but the son doesnt accept it. then a ghost pops up and asks about the plumbing, prompting the man to lie. the kid tells the truth, angering the ghost. however, the scene is stopped by the man's son waking him, confused on what hes doing. the man, tired, gets up and turns on the faucet in the kitchen, only for nothing to come out. the man smiles, ending the story
Breakdown:
for starters, the first thing I realized was that the man was daydreaming, not sleeping. it says the man is "woken up", but if that's the case, the son wouldnt be confused why the dad was just sitting there. it would be obvious he was asleep, ergo the son wouldnt have been confused on what he was doing.
the reason he turned on the water was to check his reality. I think the dad knows the plumbing in the house has been really bad for awhile, but has yet to get it fixed. the reason he had the daydream that he did was so that he could make up a reason why the plumbing was so bad. he smiled because he realized that, even as an adult, he still has the capacity to daydream like a child would. his son blew him off in his dream, most likely because he did the same to his own father. the ghost in the dream can be both seen as an allegory to show the man's lingering imagination, or just a silly entity his brain created to bring his childhood back as much as he could.
the lyrics help to back up the explanation as well. I'll be referring to 4 different lyrics

in the first verse, the line "theres nothing but essentials now" is implying that daydreaming is not a skill you will need in life after childhood. the essentials are the skills used by adults in every day life, such as following orders and sticking to a bland routine. "I've lost the wonder, I planned it out" is pretty straightforward: hes lost his childlike wonder and is resorting to planning things instead of being spontaneous. "its not wonder I feel so vacant" is implying that the loss of his wonder has also taken his childhood with it, making him feel emptied out
the next lyric "you could say I'm done waking up, I dont know where to go, I dont daydream anymore", is meant to show his lost interest in daydreaming. "I dont know where to go" is meant to imply that this person is lost without the wonder of daydreaming
after that, "dead, but no mourning. wanna get ahead, just conforming". the thing that his "dead" is his desire to drift off. he cant mourn this loss because, as an adult, theres no time in his life to do such a thing. "wanna get ahead" is simply the adult trying to get ahead in life to find time for their lost childhood, but they cant. finally, "just conforming" is meant to show them transitioning from a rebellious and/or energetic young child with hopes and dreams into an adult who must follow the strict rules and orders of life
finally, "I could sit on the world, find nothing, then get back to when I dreamed something. you dont love, you dont love, to dream anymore". this is definitely the saddest line, as it is meant to show the total death of the wonder inside. "I could sit on the world, find nothing, then get back to when I dreamed something" is meant to show the adult's willingness to return to their childhood, but overall inability to. "you dont love, you dont love, to dream anymore" is where the person's inner child truly dies. at this point in their life, theres no going back. they've accepted that they can no longer daydream, and must move on from the enjoyment of the childhood activity.
overall, "I Don't Daydream Anymore" is a song about the desire, but inability, to experience fun or joy in childlike activities once you're an adult (or at least I think it is). the song is meant to bring attention to the appreciation, or lack there of, of being young, and shows that, for most adults, they can never go back to things they once enjoyed as a child. it's honestly kind of depressing, but its purpose is to tell us to enjoy our youth as much as we can before true adulthood. truly a beautiful song with a deep message to be found.
