This might not pertain to your setup (or situation) but in H20 you can set the color space to ACEScg. Edit>OCIO Settings> Render Working Space = ACEScg, View Transform > ACES 1.0. You will need to hit apply and accept and then close and reopen the application for those settings to stick. His .exr files for the mech base color have "ACEScg" in the name space and by default are interpreted as Linear Rec.709. I changed those to ACEScg in the File Color Space tab. This got my frame buffer to match his for the Mech shading.
6:25 is the conversion to ACES needed only with Jpgs or also with png/tga/exr ?

It looks like houdini 20.6.625 - Py3.10 no longer has Karma OCIO Color Transform node. :(
I also can't find it in 19.5.640
