  • This week I'm going to show you a quick solution to bumping your supply voltage from 9 to 18 volts. Based around a ICL7660s chip, it only need 6 components, and is small enough to fit in a 1590B case. Original layout from tagboardeffects here:

just getting into doing my own circuits after doing some bending/mods. Really like your test board there, that looks smart

Just a question about how clean the output voltage is , are there any audible artifacts from the switching in the ICL7660 ? I was considering it for a sustain pedal I'd been asked to build , a minimal effects player so he's looking for as clean a sound as possible . It's a doubler or another power supply choice.

Some pedals connect 9V power ground to audio shield ground. I have 2 of them in my rig. I'm thinking I'm going to run into a conflict connecting a (+) and (-) voltage referenced to ground !?

nice job!!! Im just starting on one of these, what soldering iron do you use????

It's the Weller WLC100 with a precision tip. Here's a link if you're in Canada or on Amazon.

So if this were going in the same chassis as a 9V preamp/pedal, to power an XLR out/buffer daughter board of the pedal, would all grounds be tied to the chassis, or would the 18v ground be isolated?

Should be ok with a single ground for all

Thanks for this video , so if i understand it well black wire ground is connected to pin 3 and white wire ground connected to pin 5 ?

Yes. Or you can connect 3 to 5 if you don't want an isolated ground.

@@pougnetpedals thanks a lott I couldn't get it accepted in my diptrace program. I will try it with a switch between so I can isolate ground or connect 3 to 5 .

Where did you solder the output negative tip shown in 12:37 ?

It would be for an isolated ground. Looking back it's probably worth just keeping that link in and using one ground.

This circuit is working but you can not use it with your pedal...
Everybody saw this amazing show but never any sound..
You made just video an musician watch.
    you give wrong information..
it is not a real voltage! how about the Amper ?

Not sure what you mean. I can assure you it is really voltage. I have used this in multiple pedals. similar circuits also have this same sub-circuit included to do just that (9V -> 18V). Also not sure what you mean by the lack of sound. This is a charge pump for internally boosting the dc bias of your pedal, it is a not a boost circuit used to increase the level or gain of your signal.
