  • A Speeding Boat Races The Railroad Bridge Lowering To Let Florida East Coast Railway Locomotive Cross The Gigantic Railroad Bridge Over The St Johns River. This RR Bridge Is In Jacksonville, Florida near the CSX headquarters. Then a long fast train in Folkston, Georgia at the CSX Folkston Funnel. The FEC railroad bridge is a Strauss Trunnion Bascule bridge that was built in 1925. It is a 2 track bridge that replaced a single track swing bridge that opened on January 5, 1890. We see the bridge lower for a FEC Railway locomotive to pass. The locomotive is an EMD GP40-2 that was built in December of 1986. Then we see it raise back up after the engine passes. We filmed in on February 25, 2022. The CSX intermodal & auto racks train was filmed by Mrs Tooth at the Folkston Funnel in Folkston, Georgia on February 26, 2022. We used 3 cameras for this video and filmed it in 1080p.

    Great video. We would come through Jacksonville in the 80s because my dad owned a piece of property in Ormond Beach. The street was made of sand. I remember going there when I was small. We had a relative on that street. I remember that bridge. Have a nice day and enjoy your vacation 😊

    I used to love to go to Jacksonville to The Landing there.... we used to walk That Sidewalk that led from The Landing to that train track. And it would always fascinate me when I would hear the alarm for the bridge going up or going back down for the train to go across... also you can see the train as it goes past the Baptist Medical Center down there.. thank God those trips to the Baptist Medical Center are not as frequent as they used to be. I thoroughly enjoy your videos... and you keep it good and clean... and I also love it when you show your kiddos and your furbabies!! Safe travels to you and God bless! And Folkston always has good train videoing..

    Growing up in Cleveland, I remember when the "default position" of such bridges was "down", because the rails were used far more often than the Cuyahoga River! I've rode across most of the valley's bridges on locomotives, with my father. Today, the bridges Stay UP, until a train needs to cross, as depicted here! What's happened to our country's once mighty railroad system, is "TRULY SAD!"

It was ancient when I lived there.

    It's interesting that those Florida East Coast locomotives have two sets of horns-one in the front and one in the back. I don't think I've ever seen that before.

    • @orin3039
      @orin3039 2 роки тому +1

      It is not two sets of horns that the locomotive uses, in fact it is the same horn both times. You hear a different frequency because of something called the doppler effect. Essentially when the loco is coming towards you, the sound waves from the horn are travelling faster making it sound like a higher pitch. When it is moving away the sound waves are slower making it a lower pitch. (I'm assuming you were talking about the different pitches you heard in the video and not a physical set of horns you noticed on the back of the loco.) Correct me if I'm wrong :)

Watching the other boats to through, they were at idle speed. Much of the St. John's is a slow zone due to it being Manatee Season. That was a great trainfanning spot in South Georgia. 1:35 I was just wondering if that was a cormorant in the lower-left corner of the screen, under the bridge, and it was ! :)

    Just looking at the thumbnail I could just tell that was downtown Jacksonville. I stayed in one of the waterfront hotels prior to bootcamp and that’s all I looked at over there. I like this shot here.

    Hey Jaw Tooth,. Great video. Back in November I stayed at the railroad cabin next to the old Chessie caboose in Folkston. Folkston is railfan heaven!

    Something you don't see very often. Lionel made a bridge like this, I don't have it (not enough room). Very cool video.😁👍!

    We'll check this out on our way to Florida in June. Thanks, great video. Those boats were smaller than the S.S. Minnow.
