My Fan Theory was the Andromeda galaxy (closest galaxy to the Milky Way). The Emperor, in his great wisdom, knew of the Tyranids, and sent 1 or 2 of the twenty original Primarchs, and their entire Legions with Imperial Guard and Martian support fleets, to the nearby galaxy to blunt and slow down the Tyranid invasion that would inevitably come. The distance is so vast it makes sense that just now, the main force of Nids is approaching the outer fringes. The two (or 1) Legions and brave human warriors held as long as they could, entire generations of warriors growing up fighting and dying in the Andromeda galaxy and the void between that and the Milky Way. Settlements and small kingdoms were established on planets that were not ravaged and barren. But two (or 1) Legions and Billions of Guard were still not enough to stop it, only delay and distract. The Legions may (if even alive) return to the Imperium soon, all but spent in strength, to warn those that have been ignorant to the threat.

Interesting side note - the Shadow in the Warp doesn't only drive people (and especially psykers) insane with terror and prevent psychic technology from working, but can grow so intense that it causes wide band interference across the whole EM spectrum and causes severe glitching in non-psychic technology (so it even drives AIs 'insane', after a fashion). It basically prevents all communications technology from working (so no calling for help or sending warnings even with a sci fi standby like 'subspace radio'), and can distort space time so severely that forms of interstellar travel other than 40K Warp drive can be disrupted once a Hive Fleet moves in system. Once you can detect them, it is probably too late to run away no matter what form of FTL tech you use. No matter who you are, once the Shadow falls, you are pretty much doomed.

Everyone and their aunt in the 40K universe has tried to wipe out the Tyranids with bioweapons bgcvetan - even the actual Chaos God of plagues, Nurgle, gave it his best college try - but it always fails. The Tyrnaids just adapt to the weapon, subvert it for their own use, and employ it against the poor souls who tried to use it on them. If you think about, using a microscopic biological agent as a weapon against a species that is supremely capable at weaponizing biology probably isn't the best idea, but even nanotech weapons are equally ineffective - Tyranid biology is just too alien and inimical, and adapts too fast, for anything to keep up.

Bring u the fact that they lost the 1st company getting him back alive. They adapt in 2-4 generations that is ridiculausly fast on top of that the only real way to beat them is scorched earth tactics. Tyranids we see are not even the most powerful tyranids they are the scouting force enough creatures to block out the warp (locally) and that is the scouting force. To think that Tyranids are mindless beasts is a grave mistake. When you fight Tyranids you face not only those before you on the battlefield, but the untold thousands which seek to surround you, which attack your supporting units and destroy your supply lines in perfect synchronicity. These aliens have shown evidence of both tactics and strategy that speaks of a far worse threat than that posed by a mere beast.

As much as Imperial propaganda and the few morons who made it to astartes want you to believe otherwise, the tyranids have never demonstrated a single instance of tactics more complicated than blitzkrieg (make a line of attacking forces straight for the cites from your boarder). An organism capable of tactics would deploy dummy forces to occupy exterminatus fleets prior to an invasion. Genestealers wouldn’t reveal themselves at all, but would breed like rabbits and behave incompetently when fighting the swarm. The fleets would avoid major nations such as the Imperium utilizing what should the best spies in the galaxy until all other biomass had been exhausted in order to maximize the speed of conquest rather than just attack outward against everything. Critically, the hive fleets would have adapted some means of survival at any single point if they were as smart as they are said to be.

Tyranids can launch a literal planetary invasion and win without any practice, no rehearsals, and do so *flawlessly.* On D-Day we humans had the luxury of a rehearsal and we still got a lot of things wrong. And that was as simple as “drive boat to shore, dump soldiers there, and they run up.”

@midgetydeath but those are Eldar standards, those bitches be basically magic (wraith song or w.e). When I said known for their advancements, the thing that stuck to me was the lore of them advancing to the other race's level in only 500 years or something, idk much about their lore but i like to imaging what they would be later on. Hive fleet gorgon vs tau was what I was referencing about how they both tried to out smart each other with their own versions of "tech".
The big boys, Hive Tyrants' consciousness get "uploaded" back into the hivemind and get "downloaded" again into a new body to fight, outsmart, and out maneuver legendary tacticians like SM commanders. Cool story of the OG Hive Tyrant: the Swarmlord vs Ultra Marine chapter in their own house: Macragge. Swarmlord lore says only one swarmlord gets uploaded, downloaded at a time over different fleets even light years away and shows up when a Norm Queen wants to end a fight, like a tactical nuke (when he shows up the whole army changes, tactically). Even says that the Swarmlord could be as old as the Tyranid race, the Hivemind's first baby. The little guys turn feral like animals (run, hide, or turn rabid) when outside the hiveminds influence (except for genestealers). Since GW likes to stroke SM's C, IDK how op they are now in the lore so IDK if the Tyranids have a chance against them now. Can you reference the Tau and Eldar lore, I'd like to read it.

The Hive Tyrants - and especially the Swarmlord, the pinnacle of their kind - are the Tyranid's adaptation to deal with tactically complex situations. After all the Swarmlord has repeatedly outmanoeuvred highly tactically and strategically capable adversaries, up to and including Marneus Calgar himself.
As for mechanical technology outpacing Tyranid adaptation, you have to remember that the Tyranids are not a-technological - they are their own technology, and their technology is biotech. Their biotechnology is incredibly advanced, the equivalent of conventional mechanical technology at a hypertech level, and adapts and develops at a staggeringly rapid pace. There is no reason to suppose that mechanical technology could ever overwhelm that pace of development, and the Tyrnaids can and do adapt their biotech without needing to first absorb the biological traits of a prey species.
The Tyranids developed Hive Fleet Kronus to fight and defeat the Daemon armies of Chaos, and Daemons in 40k are extra dimensional beings whose bodies are not made of conventional matter at all - they have no genetics and cannot be devoured or assimilated, and yet the Tyranids were able to adapt to the Daemons by observing how they fought against the Swarm and then adapting the physical structure of their bioforms, and the tactics of their hive fleets, accordingly. By all accounts, Hive Fleet Kronus is very, very good at what it was created to do, and all without any assimilation of the target forces.
You also can't just kill off a Norn Queen and that is that. Larger Hive Fleets have many Norn Queens, and should one be killed the Hiveship of which she is a part will ultimately spawn another in time. It would slow down the Tyranids to kill the Norn Queen of a Swarm, but it wouldn't stop them.

@@blackshogun272 I don't know enough about the Yuuzhan Vong to comment I'm afraid, though I can give you a little information on Tyranid Bioships in case that helps.
Bioships vary dramatically in form and size, being as varied and adaptable as any other Tyranid bioform. As actual void dwelling living entities, they are adapted to survive in space, being essentially immune to many hazards of starship navigation like intense radiation. Defensively, they don't use conventional energy shielding per se, instead employing a combination of immensely thick armour, multiple redundant organs, regenerative abilities extreme even by Tyranid standards, along with warp fields (essentially psychic shields on a huge scale) and swarms of billions of large scale spores that swarm around the ship and have the ability to cluster via a form of mumuration to intercept physical munitions and can absorb and dissipate energy weapon fire.
Tyranid ships are comparatively slow over long space combat distances, but fast over short ones and highly manoeuvrable for their size. As living vessels, they don't have conventional energy signatures and don't use active sensor technologies, instead possessing advanced sensory organs and the more esoteric ability to sense the minds of the crews by psychic means. As such, they are difficult to detect over space combat distances until they are very close, which is a problem since, while most Tyranid weapons are short ranged by space combat standards, they are very nasty. Pyro acid batteries employ large payloads of alien hyper enzymes and strange acidic compounds that can melt through metres thick Imperial Navy starship hulls in a matter of minutes and Bioplasma spines are pretty much what they sound like.
The biggest threat of the Tyranids in combat happens at even closer ranges. many Tyranid weapons can disable or otherwise impair propulsion and manoeuvring, thus allowing the bioship to close so that it can board enemy vessels and attack then directly with massive tentacles, claws and jaws, and also have the ability to deploy huge numbers of void swimming ordinance organisms that function like assault boats and boarding torpedoes.
Given how brutally deadly Tyranids are in direct combat, a boarding action performed by them or against them is nightmarish, and since bioships are essentially living factories, they can produce essentially numberless creatures to flood a vessel they have boarded. Tyranids don't so much use boarding parties as pour thousands, hundreds of thousands, or even greater numbers (depending upon the size of the bioship in question) of bioconstructs onto the targeted ship to overwhelm defences and slaughter the crew, even when that crew is as large and well armed as that of an Imperial Navy warship. Many ship crews choose to try to initiate their vessel's self destruct system rather than allow themselves to be devoured alive in a ship that has become no more than a hunting ground for Tyranid bioforms.

I always see people compare The Tyranids, The Flood, The Zerg, and sometimes even the Necromorphs with each other. And I can understand why. But I really wish more people would compare them to the BETA from “Muv Luv.” The BETA are an extremely underrated hive-species. The average hive-unit is HUGE (requiring mech-suits to even compete with it). Most of their strength is ground based and simply brute physical force, but that’s really all they need as they have specialized units that make aerial attack almost impossible against them. They also somewhat turn the “harvest all organic matter” troupe on its head: the BETA are miners by nature and want to extract all usable minerals (whether organic or not) from a planet. So they don’t just leave a planet void of life, but void of all worth. BETA also believe that only silicon-based life (as opposed to carbon-based life) is the only form of life in the universe. So whenever they are attacking humans, they don’t believe that they’re actually killing life-forms, but are instead recycling something akin to an obstacle, resource, or robot. They are extremely adept with natural technology (having created numerous exotic elements that don’t fit anywhere one the Periodic Table). Their numbers are frighteningly large as well, with theories predicting 10^37+10^37x7^10 to 10^37+10^37x9^10 BETA in existence. They’re full capabilities are unknown. Not to mention, they have that sort of grotesque, bizarre flair that only Japanese horror can give off.

I think they do actually use advanced tactics sometimes, in the books and lore they sometimes show some minor individuality with the leaders as a way of adapting to their enemies tactics and leaders, they breed different types of warriors specifically to counter anything that works against them, sometimes making swarms of smaller Tyranids or groups of tougher larger Tyranids depending on what their opponent is strong against, they bombard a place before going in or seed the place with genestealers or psychic terror to weaken the strongest defences presented to them.

Tyranids actually do use tactics and strategies, however these usually compose of targeting specific weak points in the enemy, flanking and out maneuvering the prey, infact a marine by Telion of the Ultramarines 10th company has stated once and i quote "A new Tyrant joined the fray, and in an eye-blink the whole character of the swarm changed. The ravening berserker-spirit that had driven the Tyranids onto the ridge was gone, as if it had never existed. Left in its place was something cannier, and infinitely more warrisome. It was then that i knew the battle to be lost."

Even better? If you can capture a Norn queen, thanks to the way their DNA works you can build bio weapons such as viruses that specifically target the tyranids. And because Norn queen DNA is the base on which all of it's fleet's DNA is built from, they can't adapt to them, it simply won't work. Actually getting hold of one is hard sure (You are boarding a ship that wants to eat you, full of creatures that want to eat you after all) but it can be done. (Also their short range I don't think got mentioned, they've got some long ranged weapons on the ground (See exocrines, tryranofexes ect) but in space combat their weapons can't come close to the range of say, a Nova cannon)

    • @gregorygreenwood-nimmo4954
      @gregorygreenwood-nimmo4954 5 років тому

There isn't one Norn Queen in larger fleets, but many. There is also no reason to suppose that you could use the Norn Queens to make bioweapons at all, and even if you did the rest of the fleet could still adapt to whatever you made. The Norn Queens are ultimately simply bio-factories for the Tyranids, just another kind of specialised bioform.

@@gregorygreenwood-nimmo4954 Ok so apparently my info was slightly off, but this passage taken from the wiki "A biological plague created by using a Lictor's DNA as the foundation for the pathogen was injected into the Norn-Queen by Captain Uriel Ventris of the Ultramarines 4th Company. This disrupted the Hive Mind's coherency and the Tyranid creatures reverted to overly aggressive, animalistic behaviours, turning upon one another in an orgy of cannibalism. This action also crippled a tendril of Hive Fleet Leviathan." was probably what I was thinking of

I have to disagree with one of the "flaws". It's the same one you used for your Ork video. In regards to technology, yes, a race (not the imperium, who performs all of their technology through rote with a very strong discouragement toward innovation) might create a new technology which may give it a high advantage against the tyranids. However tyranids have a very rapid evolution mutation that they have conscious control over. When confronted by a new unexpected tech, the tyranids would begin altering new bio-forms with the intent of overcoming those advantages, and it would take only a few years, at most, for them to do so.

Will mention that Tyranids do implement various tactics to adapt to the battlefield. Such as playing dead to lure opponents into an ambush(Like they did on Macragge). As well as I believe they do often use various pincer and flanking maneuvers, IE have one massive force hit the enemy from the front to distract them and waste ammo while other Tyranids like Raveners burrow behind their lines and wreck havoc.
They really are insidiously cunning despite being regarded as mindless 'animals' that rely on numbers.

Bonus points for constantly changing which things you use, including the use of contradicting ones, for bonus wrecking power. Ha why didn't anyone thinnnn... oh yeah that would be extremely difficult to pull off and the Tyrranids would somehow manage to strategise around that anyway.

Killing the norn would only slow down the hoard. They will simply just make another one.
"When a Norn-Queen is killed, the psychic backlash of its death in the Hive Mind -- approaching level Gamma 12 in intensity -- causes nearby Tyranid Hive Ships to calve, creating more Norn-Queens within their interiors. This is an instinctual survival mechanism of the Tyranid species that is known as the "Hydra Effect," and is the reason why when a Hive Fleet is defeated, it can quickly form splinter fleets that eventually become larger than the original"
