Anyone who thinks KISS music is simple hasn't tried to play Bruce Kulick's licks.
Agreed but the argument isn’t about Bruce but Gene. Of course I disagree that Gene’s bass is easy to play; however compared to Tony Levin, Geddy Lee, Chris Squire, Gene’s playing is easier or less complex but never easy.
I am a professional Bassist/Singer and major KISS fan. I agree 100% about Gene! Underated for all the badass bass lines he has!
The bassline in a 100,000 years is killer. He's always been very motown. Plus him and paul, in my opinion , always had the John/Paul type of harmony.
Their first three albums had some very well crafted songs. Love Her All I Can is an example of that. Love the harmonies, the drum fills, everything. To me it’s an example of the perfect rock song.

Who cares if their music is simple. It's all about the songs. They don't have to be flashy to be good songs.

I love a lot of different music... from Barry Manilow to Dio; from Ernest Tubb to Jackyl; from Air Supply to Styx... and on and on.
To this day...at age 60, I would still rather listen to ANY KISS song over anything else.
The bass line to 'watching you' is tremendous! Go watch a video of someone playing it. (Not of Gene, because you'll never see the frets, just him and the band) very underrated and respectly disagree, Ace was the Kiss sound. His solos are iconic and memorable
KISS is my favorite band; really got in to them in the early 90's when my Army buddy introduced me to them. I was hooked, especially their 70's stuff. I was an 80's teen, but never really got into KISS like the hair bands. Looking back 70's rock I think is the best overall. I think they're really talented and I love them that's enough for me...haters will hate and let them.
For what they do performing, moving around, singing, interacting with the crowd, putting feeling behind every song with effort it is not easy, and I am glad you backed it up and agreed.
What a great video,,,, thankyou. I also have been a card carrying member of the KISS ARMY since 1976 I was 13 and they blew my mind!!!!! I love every version of KISS ( my favorite is from 1973 - 1979 line up ). It really amazes me how much hate KISS gets, I have been made fun of for being a KISS Fan over the years. People saying things like without the makeup KISS is nothing and KISS proved them wrong!!! And putting down ERIC SINGER and Tommy Thayer for wearing the same makeup as ACE and PETER. At the end of the day it's all about the music and for me KISS has a pretty great catalog of music.🤘❤🇺🇸
First three albums gene played some pretty classic r+b and rock and roll walks-surprisingly decent bass. Kiss music is not hard per sey- its just they were playing within their limitations, so some of the riffs are quirky to other people.
When I started playing bass and learning songs I was surprised at how interesting some of Gene's bass lines were. They're not particularly difficult or complex but they're catchy and cool. He obviously listened to McCartney a lot .
I agree with all the positive comments on here. I have always thought that KISS was much better musically than what they were ever given credit for.

I play guitar and no most of KISS' songs are not hard but they're not overly simple 3 chord rock either. Watchin You isn't super easy. Playing Hotter Than Hell correctly isn't super easy. I Want You isn't super easy. Paul's chord structure jumps up and down the neck a lot. Makes it interesting to play. But if you look at other bands like Priest, Sabbath, AC/DC, they're not that difficult to play. Livin After Midnight and Breakin The Law are super easy. Paranoid and Iron Man and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath aren't hard. Sorry to hurt some people's feelings but most of rock and roll isn't very hard. Sometimes it gets harder when they play faster. But the chords aren't that hard
I would say "Complex" and Very Crafty. I learned "Makin Luv" very outstanding how that riff really is. I Stole Your Luv, starts out with the 6th degree chord with a Swing back & forth to the Bmj. oooh here's one, "Got to Choose" & "All Hell breaking Loose" are played pretty much in the same area.

What's wrong with simple? Ramones are simple. Many bands are simple. But a HIT is a hit. A cool RIFF is a cool riff. It's rock n roll.

Where very talented aces guitar playing was what sent them over gene always gives Peter an Ace credit for it where Paul Stanley doesn't want give any credit he would rather have Tommy Thayer dressed as Ace because Tommy Thayer would not say anything just do what he told it is so sad that Paul Stanley ruined kiss end of the road tour by lip syncing and refusing to play with Ace and Peter
Try to play the song Unholy rhythmically and groovily correct with bass or guitar. Not just roughly, but correctly! Good luck!

First off, I'm disappointed to find out that the band are the douchebags they are. I grew up idolizing this band and it's disappointing to find out what creeps they are.
That being said, they're one of those bands that became a target even though they didn't deserve it. Listening to a lot of their stuff, they weren't really no more simplistic than bands like Zeppelin, and I think I prefer them at times. Plant's voice could be irritating later on, and Page's obsession with the Blues was boring.
Ac/dc is just as easy.
I'm a drummer, I pick up a bass about three times a year. Not only are his bass lines simple, they are boring. He doesn't claim to be a good bassist because he knows he isn't. I'd love to see him get on stage next to Tony Levin.

Kiss literally sucks, their music is not complicated, try listening to Rush, King Crimson or early Genesis that is well crafted music!
You know, you can be a KISS fan and a Rush, Pink Floyd or any technical band. IT's all music, it's all rock n roll. I like KISS just as much as I'll listen to anything else. Including the bands you mentioned.
Kiss is a not so bad not so good band when it comes to good songs ..most of reapinsability has fell on Stanly music talent....lsts be honest most of tbe Sommons lyrics SUCK
