After watching the video, I really wonder if the whole 24-bit audio hype has any practical sense at all, or is it just a marketing gimmick? Even back then, the SACD did not catch on because it was quickly revealed that nobody needs frequencies over 20kHz.

Nobody is probably surprised why the SACD has not established itself. In the recording studio, 24-bit makes sense for editing and calculating filters, but less so for the finished product. Thank you for your comment!

Please don't forget the fact, that the sampling rate in this video is always a constant at 44.1kHz for every bit value.
For example, in the 1990s, sound cards with 8-bit resolution could not nearly represent 44.1kHz, which of course sounded even worse at 8-bit resolution, like this here in the video. 😉
