Your point about high tier IJN/IJA planes seems perfectly fitting for my experience playing WT as a newbie. Everyone runs away from you, or they are all low on the deck and you are forced to dive towards them with your compression and your low energy retention while diving, or you choose to not climb and get boom and zoomed by Bf-109s or Lightnings. Or a bomber wins a head-on against you if you try to attack those.

This plane should get 5.0, because it barely can counter something like P-51 D30 due to it´s low performance. Unfortunately Gaijin will not listen any voices that say something Japanese with four cannons need lower BR. It´s useless to write on forum there is something wrong in WT because they will ban you for this with justification you insulting employees of Gaijin.
N1K is surprisingly easy to get high kill matches, that's due to japanese teams. You won't carry matches in this thing but as a support it's really efficient

He is in the top 300 players in Air Realistic for a reason. What he calls struggle, we call hell. So no matter the circumstances, 99% of the normal player base will not get a high kill game let alone an ace in this.

If you don't believe him and me, just try it yourself it's not that hard if you are semi competent pilot, all it takes is just waiting and helping teammates. Also being very good at game =/= being godlike player, some planes he might struggle with just because of his playstyle. Also also most he does is down to bit of luck, patience and smart play, it's not like he's pulling some hard manouvers that would require monkey agility to pull off nor does he relay only on his aim, most cases aim just helps him get more kills due to killing faster, he doesn't really need plan b in case he misses. Rest is just bit of knowledge that you also can easilly get it just takes some time
Recently discovered I had the Pacific campaign Zero (back from 2013). Only wanted to use the free 30 repairs but in unlocking a lot of Japanese planes I kinda fell in love with them. Was debating to put a crew in the N1K but from the stats I didn’t see the point really. Seems I was right watching your video. Keep up the great work man :)
Back in 2012-14 the N1K2s were pretty badass. For the longest time, the N1K2-Ja was my plane with the most kills for a very long time. Then bit by bit it got worse, there was a time when you'd get thrown in with early jets every game and now it just sits there gathering dust in my hangar. Kinda sad.
Also you said it perfectly, people just run away from you at high tiers and you end up just chasing people the entire match, generally ending in them AF camping.
People running away from you is something usual when you play Japanese (starting Tier 3). Enough patience and engine management bring usually 2-3 kills per game. If you have it, would like to see your view on the J7W1!
Despite its obvious disadvantages and the fact that its grossly over tiered, I love my N1K2 Ja Shiden Kai, beautiful plane that's well armed. Nothing better than winning with the underdog
The Shiden's armament is probably what is keeping it at it's current BR, I would only hope that the repair cost can come down to match the performance. Inferior planes can still be great fun without the pressure from high repair cost.

Back when the game was first out and the N1k was one of the top dog props, it was seriously powerful and that is why it has remained in that battle rating till now, of course it does not perform at 6.3 with the other aircraft like the spitfire mk22 or the P51 H . The only capable way of playing this aircraft is with defensive flying and altitude advantage... which is a pain in the ass..
Such a shame, I used to play Combat Flight Sim 2 Pacific when I was a lot younger and fell in love with it there. Was looking forward to it. Edit: post viewing, I think I will still like it. Looks like it still has the Japanese nimbly bimbly playstyle but with much tougher enemies.
When people run to base in a 2v1 with equal altitude then they deserve to be shit talked and embarrassed when their planes hit the ground bc they were too shit at the game to learn how to play properly.
I genuinely enjoy the N1K2s and do quite well in them (positive K/D is not an issue at all) but overall I agree that they are overtiered. The thing that keeps me from flying them more is not so much their BR but more so their ridiculous repair cost.
The most I remember of this plane is murdering F8Fs and facing P-80s (at the time) and F-84s. Also that time the B-57s could face this thing and we had to intercept them before they destroyed carriers. Also panicking against Griffin Spits.
Because for the most part, this plane still dominates in RB at that BR range. I know this is hard to believe, but it used to be that 99% of the time, your opponents would simply turnfight you in their superior planes. Nowadays, it's about 75% so there is a chance that you'll run into someone who actually will extend and use their speed/energy retention to make it so that you can't touch them.
@@BABiFun it boils down to three co-dependent factors: lack of experience/knowledge, desperation for RP (the grind), and bad teams. Allied teams tend to be bomber heavy which puts them at an automatic numerical disadvantage. Those bomber pilots tend to graduate into fighters they desperately want with little to no operational knowledge. Combined with the fact that they are desperate to grind up from the stock state of the plane, they make bad tactical decisions just to get a kill, even if that means sacrificing their plane. Those factors together make many allied teams bad generally, though they have gotten significantly better since they used to be 3-4 years ago.

Its a dogfighter that can't dogfight with its bad FM rn and horrible BR placement due to the borked FMs of yester-year
I personally run the tracer belts at 500m convergence, I personally really enjoy it but it has nice quirks that some would definitely dislike. I play it pretty passively and do much better than being aggressive with it.
I honestly don’t care about getting strafed gaijin really needs to nerf the AAA, had a dude from 5K alt dive and run to his AF because I was 1K above him, decided to camp the airfield for the entire game until the tickets runs out But I guess they were just playing differently

Overtiered is right. However N1K1-Ja is just about right at 5.3, one of my favorite japanese planes in fact. Same performance as the K2, but half the cannon ammo and some 7.7s. I find it performs really well at altitude against P51s and lower tier Spits, who are generally extremely overconfident with their space climbing and aren't ready for anyone to turn into them. The J7W1 is still my favorite higher tier Japanese prop though - eats fighters for lunch at high altitude.
I spaded both variants while they were 6.3, facing -F84s constantly. That was almost bomber level painful grinding. To properly abuse this thing, you need to abuse flaps and rudder. And scare anyone into dogfights.
The Ki-84 has excellent performance but its guns are the bane of my existence. I’ll gladly take a hit on performance for guns that are reasonably effective.
Jengar said the opposite about the shinden (2 years ago) but god damn, when you are on 20 min fuel you can't use wep to climb at 25m/s and j2m3 is pain, since it adores overheating too and you can't make use of your climbrate.
Any opinions on the J2M3 or the Ki-83? I'm still trying to find my way around JP rank 4 planes in general and haven't gotten around to flying either of those 2 too much yet.
oh my.. Ki-83..love that plane..it's awesome ...have 270 kills and 90 deaths with it. I usually climb above 5-6k meters and then Boom n' Zoom climbing fighters
The J2M3 is a J2M2 with more better guns. You will perform decent in it, as long as someone doesn't run away. That was my experience atleast, after a few matches.
It makes sense, since the Zeros are trash and can't touch anything if the allied player knows how to use his plane, while the Ki-84 actually can be a threat.

Yup. Especially with tracers. I was stalling behind an I-185 so i just went spray or die and sent about 600 rounds his way. The moment the bullets touched him he exploded.
Defyn, im a little late to comment on the video but could you please make a video on the I.A.R 81? i've played almost all 2.7 planes and this thing is just disgusting, all 2.7s i played out climbs it, it has a ridiculous cooling problem(a weapon to surpass the F8F-1B), the cooling problem is so broken that you MUST use MEC to not overheat before you reach the end of the runway, you need to spend so much time fiddling with MEC and side climbing with the I.A.R-81 that by the time you reach 4km the battle is over, i bought the plane november last year and couldn't even reach 50 matches with it due to the bad performance, with it you can't climb, you overheat, it turns well with flaps but lacks the power to maintain a dogfight. But hey 2x MG151 with 175RPG at 2.7.
I've generally had a better time in this than the Ki-84, but I can't really put my finger on why. The ki-84 just doesn't work for me like n1k does. Maybe it's the Ho-5s, or the sort of weird way the ki-84 handles. Or the Ja model somehow flies better than the J (doubtful). Then again I've always been a bit weird in air RB and my choices can sometimes be... interesting.
I have over 1000 battles with the Ki-84 and over 1000 battles with the N1K2 and I can tell you that I also enjoy more the N1K2, simply because it has firepower. Although the Ki-84 is truly a better plane, it does truly everything better, but it doesn't matter if it's cannons doesn't do shit and also has less ammo with higher rate of fire. If the Hei one would be 6.0, then I would play that often, but being 6.3 is just pathetically ridiculous. Gaijin has no clue how they should BR the planes.

That's a J2M with a turbo, but the turbo isn't working in it, so it's a J2M3 (maybe M5) with worse performance, because Gaijin. My squadron mates begging for Gaijin to finally fix that thing but they didn't listen. So, sorry man, but you're fucked. The plane isn't THAT bad, it can be good, but you definitely have to know what are you doing with it.
They seriously nerfed them ages ago... The A7M2, the N1K2-J, and even the Ki-84 used to be able to at least fight off things like the P-51H (note that I only said fight off, not beat). Because Gaijin only considers player statistics in balans, and with Japanese mains are usually highly capable, they ended up getting overtiered and nerfed to the point where they are hilariously unrealistic. Case in point, real life A7M2 tests show it to be more capable than the N1K2-J and Ki-84, but in game after 1.87, it is now the slowest of the three and even outright lied about changing its flight model.

But even then, at military power, it is very comparable to the N1K2-J (the Ki-84 still outruns them significantly, being close to 700 km/h at WEP, which cannot be reached by either the Shidens or the Reppuus), though data seems to say the N1K2-J can outrun it further with WEP. I was referring to the time to climb, in which the A7M2 can keep up with some J2Ms. The A7M2 can reach 6km in 6:07 and 10km in 15:20, while the J2M3 can reach 6km in 5:50 and the J2M5 can reach 6km in 6:20. For reference, the N1K2-J can reach 6km in 6:20. Unfortunately, I can't find the time to 10km for the other fighters, and I could only find the T-2 Report for the Ki-84, in which it was tested to 20k ft in 5:48 under "normal" conditions and 7:18 under "overload" conditions. And let's not forget, the Japanese military tested these aircraft using *military power settings (100% throttle)*, not War Emergency Power settings, at a full tank of gas...

And the reason the Ki-84 is so much better, is because Gaijin gave it 100 octane fuel and used the american's test for making the plane. In the japanese hands the Ki-84 had a top speed around 660 km/h, which is barely faster than the N1K2, and obviously it did everything worse by the japanese than by the americans with high octan fuel.
So it's a slightly faster N1K1-Ja? Which is already is only marginally better* than an F6F-5 Hellcat. The only reason why Shiden Kais can perform well is becaus enemy players don't know what they are fighting and because they actually get decent guns, compared to the Ki-84ko. *Overall not only based on dogfight capability, but also how easy it is to boom 'n zoom and other things like that.
That's an awesome machine, but personally I don't like it, since it's nerfed (like every Spitfire) and it's gun doesn't do shit. Even though it's nerfed, it flies very well, so actually Gaijin should only fix it's cannons and it would be an awesome plane. ^^

Its a shit plane with bad FM. Climbs, turns and retains energy worse than anything of its BR. Its a bomber clubber or discount P47 at best.

I Strongly share Defyn's hatred for the AF AAA. Half the time I take damage is when I turn to fly away from the base without diving in for attack.

dont use tracer belts on type99, the tracer HE shells have half the HE filler as the other HE shells

5.0 6.0 japan is a nightmares, those planes are so overtired. The a7m1 was a 3.3 br at start and is now a 5.0
At 3.3 it was undertiered as fuck. The A7M2 is still hecking awesome at 5.3. the A7M1 should be 4.7 tho.
The A7Ms are absolutely amazing even at the BR they are at now. They were severely undertiered then, but now they're fairly balanced.

I spaded both variants while they were 6.3, facing -F84s constantly.
That was almost bomber level painful grinding.
To properly abuse this thing, you need to abuse flaps and rudder. And scare anyone into dogfights.
The Ki-84 has excellent performance but its guns are the bane of my existence. I’ll gladly take a hit on performance for guns that are reasonably effective.
This new A6M5 zero that they will add in the next update will have 18k repair cost stock... WTF a heavier zero at 4.7 with 18k BASE REPAIR COST...

Jengar said the opposite about the shinden (2 years ago) but god damn, when you are on 20 min fuel you can't use wep to climb at 25m/s and j2m3 is pain, since it adores overheating too and you can't make use of your climbrate.

oh my.. Ki-83..love that plane..it's awesome ...have 270 kills and 90 deaths with it. I usually climb above 5-6k meters and then Boom n' Zoom climbing fighters
The J2M3 is a J2M2 with more better guns. You will perform decent in it, as long as someone doesn't run away. That was my experience atleast, after a few matches.
Hopefully gaijin fixes it.

I find Zeroes to be very easy to fight. I'd much rather fight a Zero than a Ki-84
It makes sense, since the Zeros are trash and can't touch anything if the allied player knows how to use his plane, while the Ki-84 actually can be a threat.

Defyn, im a little late to comment on the video but could you please make a video on the I.A.R 81? i've played almost all 2.7 planes and this thing is just disgusting, all 2.7s i played out climbs it, it has a ridiculous cooling problem(a weapon to surpass the F8F-1B), the cooling problem is so broken that you MUST use MEC to not overheat before you reach the end of the runway, you need to spend so much time fiddling with MEC and side climbing with the I.A.R-81 that by the time you reach 4km the battle is over, i bought the plane november last year and couldn't even reach 50 matches with it due to the bad performance, with it you can't climb, you overheat, it turns well with flaps but lacks the power to maintain a dogfight. But hey 2x MG151 with 175RPG at 2.7.

I've generally had a better time in this than the Ki-84, but I can't really put my finger on why. The ki-84 just doesn't work for me like n1k does. Maybe it's the Ho-5s, or the sort of weird way the ki-84 handles. Or the Ja model somehow flies better than the J (doubtful). Then again I've always been a bit weird in air RB and my choices can sometimes be... interesting.
I have over 1000 battles with the Ki-84 and over 1000 battles with the N1K2 and I can tell you that I also enjoy more the N1K2, simply because it has firepower. Although the Ki-84 is truly a better plane, it does truly everything better, but it doesn't matter if it's cannons doesn't do shit and also has less ammo with higher rate of fire. If the Hei one would be 6.0, then I would play that often, but being 6.3 is just pathetically ridiculous. Gaijin has no clue how they should BR the planes.

That's a J2M with a turbo, but the turbo isn't working in it, so it's a J2M3 (maybe M5) with worse performance, because Gaijin. My squadron mates begging for Gaijin to finally fix that thing but they didn't listen. So, sorry man, but you're fucked. The plane isn't THAT bad, it can be good, but you definitely have to know what are you doing with it.

Gaijin really hates Japanese planes, especially the cannons, I feel that in the A6M5, the 13mm are sometimes better than the 20mm
They seriously nerfed them ages ago... The A7M2, the N1K2-J, and even the Ki-84 used to be able to at least fight off things like the P-51H (note that I only said fight off, not beat). Because Gaijin only considers player statistics in balans, and with Japanese mains are usually highly capable, they ended up getting overtiered and nerfed to the point where they are hilariously unrealistic.
Case in point, real life A7M2 tests show it to be more capable than the N1K2-J and Ki-84, but in game after 1.87, it is now the slowest of the three and even outright lied about changing its flight model.

But even then, at military power, it is very comparable to the N1K2-J (the Ki-84 still outruns them significantly, being close to 700 km/h at WEP, which cannot be reached by either the Shidens or the Reppuus), though data seems to say the N1K2-J can outrun it further with WEP.
I was referring to the time to climb, in which the A7M2 can keep up with some J2Ms. The A7M2 can reach 6km in 6:07 and 10km in 15:20, while the J2M3 can reach 6km in 5:50 and the J2M5 can reach 6km in 6:20. For reference, the N1K2-J can reach 6km in 6:20. Unfortunately, I can't find the time to 10km for the other fighters, and I could only find the T-2 Report for the Ki-84, in which it was tested to 20k ft in 5:48 under "normal" conditions and 7:18 under "overload" conditions.
And let's not forget, the Japanese military tested these aircraft using *military power settings (100% throttle)*, not War Emergency Power settings, at a full tank of gas...

@@OmegaEGGY To be honest, their FMs are quite good. I mean they are pretty realistic. And the reason the Ki-84 is so much better, is because Gaijin gave it 100 octane fuel and used the american's test for making the plane. In the japanese hands the Ki-84 had a top speed around 660 km/h, which is barely faster than the N1K2, and obviously it did everything worse by the japanese than by the americans with high octan fuel.
So it's a slightly faster N1K1-Ja? Which is already is only marginally better* than an F6F-5 Hellcat.
The only reason why Shiden Kais can perform well is becaus enemy players don't know what they are fighting and because they actually get decent guns, compared to the Ki-84ko.
*Overall not only based on dogfight capability, but also how easy it is to boom 'n zoom and other things like that.

That's an awesome machine, but personally I don't like it, since it's nerfed (like every Spitfire) and it's gun doesn't do shit. Even though it's nerfed, it flies very well, so actually Gaijin should only fix it's cannons and it would be an awesome plane. ^^
