To be fair. The Gameboy Screen was Terrible too. At least you could see the GameGear. Even if it was Washed out. With Gameboy you needed some kind light attachment. I got a DMG for Chirstmas. But i didn't buy another handheld until the Nintendo DS/PSP became a thing.
We fixed this with a firmware change as of a few months ago, we've lengthened the delay period so games like NBA and Ecco don't trigger scaling mode changes. You can also install the touch sensor module to change modes (they're usually about $0.10 on ebay or we have them in store too)
Would you say this installation is beginner friendly? I have a Game Gear I'd like to change the screen of, but have no soldering skills or would you recommend a different installation for beginners?
12:15 - That feels kinda scummy. They should fix that, the shell should come with all the shell parts. One shell part shouldn't be in with the buttons.
Yea I agree, maybe they just assume everyone will buy buttons. I like the multicolor look of the stock buttons, and they don’t sell a button kit like that
My gosh, that non-integer scaling looks atrocious. What's the pixel count on this BennVenn? Ideally these replacement screens should have high enough PPI that half-width pixels aren't noticeable with 10:9 PAR content stretched to 4:3 using non-integer scaling (the most authentic way to plays Game Gear titles, because the OG screen used non-square pixels). A 1080p panel with a line-doubler would be perfect for this, which is why I'm personally skipping this product and waiting for a potential BennVenn V2.
I wasn't feeling so comfortable with installing this mod... You changed my mind 🙏🏽😅
Thanks for the guide I just successfully installed the kit, total noob here and proud of the results
Great to hear, thanks for watching!
Your solder game is on point bro. It's so satisfying to watch
Thanks Sean, I appreciate it!
14:56 My heart just sank. Cool video tho, the transparent shell looks awesome.
I wonder how the TV tuner looks with the new screen.
I ordered a game gear with tempered glass and I bought the tv tuner months ago I'm waiting on my refurbished game gear from ebay
Such a great clear instructional video. Thanks for sharing. 👍

Very clean work, very nice, want to do this mod now!!
My friends had a game boy but I wanted the game gear. The lesson was better hardware not equal to better gaming
Is there a way to cancel the scaling changes? I cannot play NBA Jam since I have to push Start for turbo and go up and down the player.

I have a question, in the original game gear, they used a florescent bulb for the backlight, does this come with a LED bulb instead?

I think this is a more intermediate mod, a more beginner kit would be a Super Nintendo JR RGB mod, I have a video about it
@@dubesinhower I've seen that video, awesome! Maybe I'll start with GBA backlight mod or battery replacements 😆
Great tips, thank you, the background music is awesome, may I have the music title or name, thank you.
Nice!

If you hold start, you can select an integer scaling mode.
