With everyone (myself included) being excited for Jordan Peele’s second film Us, I think the time has come to honestly discuss his debut Get Out.
Here we go…
While I acknowledge that Get Out is a very good and effective movie, I’m forced to admit that... deep down, I think it's overrated. It was received with nothing but praise, with most calling it a masterpiece. Considering the film’s own thoughts on society’s obsession with identity politics, I can’t help but see the irony in the praise society has given it.
#GetOut #JordanPeele #GetOutIsOverrated
This movie has a South Park episode plot but it’s excepted to be taken seriously.
It was ok man! I mean like u said it was good but i didn't find it to be great. Some of my friends were acting like it's the best movie they've ever seen. But they also believed the narrative and racist undertones that were baked into the story. i am not white btw!
I think its an amazing film and really shone a light on what was happening in 2017. I mean my pfp is literally boondocks which is one of the best piece of media ive ever watched.
I heard that the Oscar voters were essentially guilted into supporting this movie.
It's highly Believable
Of course they were, if you don't like the movie it's actually because you're racist.
How to make a peele movie.
Step 1: black people
Step 2: don't white people suck?
Step 3:...
Step 4: congrats you're a genius!
The fact that not a single white person in the film ended up being a "good guy" and all of the "good guys" were black, makes it feel purposely divisive and not an attempt to bridge any kind of divide, more like purposely burning the bridge.
@kingkaza my favorite one was when a guy had 3 wishes but each fucked him over. On his last wish he wanted to be a powerful man loved by his people who would retain his position until the end of his life.
So he woke up as hitler in a bunker. Fucking GOLD.
Jordan Peele is acting like he's the next master of horror. He isn't.
I think he’s had so much insanely patronizing praise thrown at him that being a human of moderate success before this film, his ego didn’t really know what to do and it’s hard to accurately gauge your own art, so when the world says every critic thinks your the new Scorsese or Hitchcock, all a human can do is hope they’re not dreaming and take their word for it.
I have to disagree, horror is my favorite movie genre, yet, 90% of horror movies are terrible, I was on Tubi last night and I seen get out, I watched it, and have never been so engaged with a movie, let alone a horror movie, and I'm as white as I'll get out, a hillbilly in Kentucky, that carries a gun everyday, and drinks moonshine occasionally even, and I loved this movie
@daronjohnson9095 yeah I've only seen nope, and that movie was really good. I don't know what these guys are on about
This feels like something M. Night Shyamalan would do during the dark period of his career.
I didn't even know the dark period of his career was over tbh.
@@YouOnlyIiveTwice he had a mini comeback with Split, before shitting the bed again with its sequel
Shyamalan isn't a race baiter though.
I think the plot of the village is 100% a better plot and twist than this horror movie .
If this isn’t a horror movie it’s attempting to masquerade as one and that’s what I’m focusing on.
Shyamalan could at least portray his own race as the villains in The Last Airbender.
By giving the black guy the award The Acadamy awarded, promoted, and congratulated itself.
Why is everyone so afraid to say this film is a racist piece of shit? And catering to a black director just for being black.
It's the most racist movie I ever watched, it made me sick.
Why do you wanna victimize yourself so bad?
@@nyotaz Why do you wanna victimize yourself so bad?

@@nyotaz what have I said that implies I'm victimized? Don't say anything too dumb now.
Everyone knows why this film won. If you criticize it, you’re considered a racist.
We all know why it's so highly praised.
It was the soundtrack right?????
Jk RIP white ppl in media 2022
Yes.
Because it’s a true look at our society.

@@nyotaz its anti white propaganda

Basically a Black Mirror episode won an Oscar. But Black Mirror would've done it in an hour.
Spot on review! Such irony.
nimfenzwanner nope.
This movie is just skeleton key
Get out is alright
Us is fucking terrible
People have a hard time with ratings. Many people only like a movie or dislike it. They can't understand, that a movie can be a good movie while still having many flaws. It's worse when it comes to videogames, where conensus has become that every game under 85 is considered a bad game and if a reviewer dares to give one game 70% they will be shitstormed into oblivion by people that are incapable of using the whole review scale from 0 to 10 or 0 to 100%.
I agree, jordan peele is waaay overrated. The Twilight Zone reboot is crappy. He should stick to comedy.
Syam Rasid Twilight Zone should be left alone for good. RIP Rod Serling.
Jordan Peele's directoral and writing abilities top out at 10minute parody skit. Back in the day his movies would've bombed and become cult classics for how enjoyable they are to make fun of.
They are still they for me. Every single one of his movies is laughable bad
@@Danosauruscrecks bad... this movie is trash, ridiculous nonsense
4:49 I hate this picture. This is not what a director looks like. This is what a cosplayer would do. It's 2020. Don't act as if you are Orson Welles, Spike Lee or Martin Scorsese if you clearly aren't. And if you shoot your movie digitally, then don't make pictures like that sitting beside a projector, because you clearly don't love film stock. This picture is pretentious at best and ridiculous at worst. I hate the cult surrounding Peele, him and his movies are overrated. Not to say that he is a terrible director, he is competent enough, but he is no Kurosawa or Leone either. He makes movies for recent times, that totally hit the Zeitgeist, but that's all. He doesn't make timeless classcis and people should stop to pretend that he does.
exactly why I chose this photo
@@FallopiumFilms Cheers, mate. Excellent video, deserves way more views. But since overal conensus is that this movie is a rare masterpiece, you'll have a hard time to find an audience for such an opinion.
That picture made me feel like Peele himself has had his mind replaced with someone else’s, and the leftist elites of the oscars and critics play the most naive role in racial faux pas next to Hillary Clinton bringing a bottle of hot sauce to HOT97! It’s like the most pathologically meta-as-possible thing I’ve ever experienced in real life and THAT is the truly disturbing thing....watching Hollywood literally hypnotize the black guy that made a movie about white elites hypnotizing black people. So crazy!
this movie gaslights reverse racism, calling the mass racist is like calling another mass terrorists.
This movie was made for racist black people who don't trust any white people simply because they are white. This movie was made to make white people very, very uncomfortable watching this movie, especially if you're watching it with black people screaming to not trust or kill the white people. It's the most anti interracial movie I ever watched, which was very hard for me to watch being white and having a black girlfriend, we both hated this movie, it made us both feeling sick. I know now to avoid everything this director makes because I want to enjoy myself, not feeling sick coming out of the movie.
This has to be the most shallow interpretation of a film I have ever seen.
@@artyom5659 glad you enjoyed the movie, just not for me.
@@martinritchie7576 I didn’t like the film but if you think it’s a film hating white people. I don’t what to tell you…
I wouldn't of minded if at least one white person stood up for the black character, sorry I don't know his name, I only saw it once and never want to watch anything that director ever again, I don't like his view in the world. Yes there is racism, my girlfriend experiences racism on Facebook from people who don't even know her, I understand what the director is trying to say in his movies, there is a lot of racism in Hollywood, it must be very frustrating to be talked to you trying to be nice and agreeing with you all the time and the trouble black actors have to get hired. Yes interracial relationships are very difficult, there are big differences between the cultures, and my girlfriend is judged by people for being with a white person and because I am not financially successful mainly, many of her so called friends on Facebook unfriended her because she chose to be with me. We don't know why they are unfriending her.
I guess get out succeed in being very suspensive and scary, but I just really don't like the message, that black people should not enter into interracial relationships because white people don't understand what black people go through, ok true I might not understand what it's like to be judged for the color of my skin, but I have been bullied all through school, even though I know being bullied is not the same as being racially segregated. And I don't like the messaging to black people that they can't trust police, I believe being a cop is a very stressful job where you must be careful with everyone you come across, especially with such distrust In cops, many black people have trust issues and unfortunately some give cops a negative attitude, resulting in the cop just trying to do his job feel nervous and defensive, unfortunately it can escalate very quickly if you are not complying to the cop, my point is respect cops and corroperate and be polite and you most of the time ends with a warning or at worst get a ticket, it sucks getting a ticket, but it is best to corporate and get the situation over. Don't be stupid by doing anything suspicious or illegal and don't speed and you shouldn't have to be worried when you get pulled over,
I found this movie on Tubi last night, never heard anything about it, just clicked on it and watched, and I thought it was on of the best movies I've ever seen, horror being my favorite genre and I never had a movie engage me like that. This is coming from a white moonshine drinking gun carrying hillbilly from Kentucky, maybe if the movie makes you uncomfortable, that's a good thing, I didn't feel bad watching it at all though, idk why you would, maybe look into that xD
Now I want to eat cake
I always thought it was OVERRATED
'Get Out' was a 6/10 AT THE MOST. 'Us', on the other hand, was about a 2/10. Saw it once and will not watch it again. It tried to be so much more intelligent than it actually was. Peele needs to stick to doing comedy skits.
YouOnlyLiveTwice dude gtfoh, US was not a 2/10.
@@mike2207 That's my opinion. What kind of self-centered world do you live in where you think somebody's opinion about a movie is wrong because it doesn't match up with yours? How about you GTFOH with your intolerant, tiny-minded self and go somewhere that you can talk with other people about your similar opinions like on Reddit.
YouOnlyLiveTwice “Peele needs to stick to comedy sketches” was the second you lost my respect.
You can say your opinion, but I have the right to disagree. Us being a 2/10 is just an insult, if you’re gonna say stuff like that. Tell us why. You just use this random video as reference why you think Peele is shit.
You can say alll you want, but this is youtube. Where you have the right to disagree.
Us was definitely trash.
Jordan peele isn't good at making a horror movie none of his movies are scary
It's a complete rip off of the skeleton Key. Then the brain surgery scene? Who the hell slams around a brain like that if they are going to put it in another body. The movie was extremely generic and all the white actors were lacking. Would never watch another peele film after this BS
Tbh get out and us sucks bro I didn't like the movies they were pretty boring
Our off all the nominees, The Shape Of Water should have won, hands down.
I don't know why you're calling this film overrated. This film was garbage. Just trash.
when I made this video no one would admit that
It wasn't bad, but it wasn't amazing neither.
I finally got around to watching this movie a year after its release... It's not good
Stinks.
I wonder if a deer will jump in front.....yep.
Nah. Get Out is a masterpiece along with US. I haven’t watched his recent movie Nope yet but I’ll definitely give it a watch.
***the stepford wives***
I flat out hated it, it felt like a mad tv skit that is supposed to be a movie.
Never saw this movie but the things you were saying about left wing racism are real. Also the kkk is a left wing organization.
Oh shut the hell up.
Original screenplay and you quibble about it being good?? 15 mins in I'm thinking this is Stepford Wives and 45 mins in I know it's Stepford Wives done to about the same level as the remake.
Stepford Wives + Skeleton Key + Disturbing Behavior.
It’s literally a mix and match of those movies.
Ive seen It appear on the Sight and Sound Greatest Movies list. People are out of their minds these days. Despite a strong lead and some interesting visuals It has really nothing to say about racism ( that'd be Do the Right Thing) or classes, or isolation and dred ( the Shining) No tone control, no great mise en scene, no great ideas. And a plot about which the word ridiculous comes quickly into the mind
Shape of Water! Jordan Peele is a joke!
a movie review for the 2021 season
I like your voice, you remind me of Dabi and that gets a sub, hopefully I won't regret it
Well, my voice will stay pleasing. The words it produces are another story…
The only character I like is the skeleton stag in the trailer.
“go off”
The most ridiculous thing about the movie, to me, is if some psychopath is going to go so far as to steal somebody else's body, to use as their own, why would they pick solely black people? You would think they would pick people that are young, before any other quality. If you want somebody else's body, you would pick them for youth, attractiveness, maybe height, body style ect. But specifically taking a person's body, just because they are black, just makes no damn sense to me. I get that black people are chosen because it fits the allegory, but there's no explanation why these people specifically want to become black people. Maybe if they played up the angle a little more of "nobody goes looking for missing black people" then it would have put the pieces together a little better. But the movie just feels disproportionately convoluted just to serve a narrative.
Yeah having deeper layers to your cake is fine, just make sure the frosting isn’t feces
They explain why, and it's racist and ridiculous. They basically said that blacks are physically superior.
Good vid though I happen to be one of those who thinks it is a masterpiece. I think not hiding the subtexts like a film like "Eternal Sunshine" would gives it its style. I wouldn't necessarily jump at the opportunity to see a Michel Gondry version of "Get Out" lol
“I’m not racist I swear” I knew where you were getting at when you said that
Elaborate
The Irony of They Live Being Overrated
Whoever says that deserves to die sitting on a dick.
one of my fave type of horror/suspense movies is when you dont know what the threat exactly IS. this movie did that well as did Barbarian
This is basically a 2hr twilight zone/ black mirror episode
I liked it but it was too slow. The final reveal of what's actually happening should have happened at the halfway mark. not the final third. Then the film might have more to actually say.
I did even know of the movies existence until not too long ago. I didn’t pay attention to it when it came out I guess.
The movie sucked ass. Had to watch there will be blood as a pallet cleanser.
I just watched the movies last night. It was a good movie but I did see some problems in it.
Every single movie he's made I thought were comedies until people told me they aren't. Guys movies are really bad. I wrote movies on par with his when I wrote scripts high in mushrooms
Pliz do under the silver lake
I think is the worst movie I’ve ever seen…
Get Out is what i like to call an eye candy.
After seeing the Nope trailer and not giving a shit about Us, I'm really starting to sour on Get Out and Peele as a person.
nope was an amzing film and so was get out. Us isint that good but its themes are cool
Honestly, I don't think get out is extremely overrated. Maybe its a little bit overrated but it lived up to my hype. Like all other films Get Out isn't perfect. Get Out was more of a psychological thriller horror film instead of a generic horror film. It was unique, new and fresh unlike other generic horror films which are based on super natural entities and jumpscares. TBH, I really enjoyed get out. I think it's a really great film. I do understand that some people hyped it too much by saying it's a perfect "horror" movie. TBH, this film was spine chilling.
I think, now that it's years later, this seems to be the majority opinion. I was reacting to the culture that surrounded it when it released. At least from what I could see, it was worshipped. I mean, it won best original screenplay.
How unique is a sjw film directed by a self hated mixed race guy...
Dear Content Creator, not only am I in the exact same position as you, with the exact same take on this film...and the whole insanely ironically bizarre and patronizing praise tossed on to this film, has isolated me entirely from not only American politics but any feeling of connection to pretty much, well, any other human in this county. The entire Trump era and beyond have basically felt that way. I was one of those not exactly socialist types, alas a pro-sanders left guy who had voted for Obama the first time and not the second as I saw the same neoconservative tendencies of Bush....and I don’t know if I, and yourself by articulating exactly how I felt here, are just far FAR better at seeing through bullshit and basically so just naturally bad at conformity or tribalism of any sort since I’ve been a young kid who couldn’t help but instinctually find nearly everything, but especially in all things dogmatic, to be suspicious and even felt shaky on the idea if people actually even knew how full of shit they are....
So I ask you, eloquent cinephile, who can’t help but be honest regardless of the risk as is clear by this video which somehow exists in a time where even the most sincere and authentic criticism of, oh, I dunno, the film Get Out for one, is dangerous grounds for continued employment and almost certain to be confirmation bias to anyone who somehow sees racism in the fact that you do not think this was a “visionary next level” film, and that saying so is just absurd, especially since horror films, one of my favorite genres, are never given anywhere near this level of praise and it feels like the very devout liberal white elites of the film, are the exact attitude the people assuming not liking the film makes one a racist embody! It’s like, has the world really gone mad?? Is everyone suddenly so stupid they need to be hit with a ten ton brick to see “metaphor”?? In the early 2000’s this would be considered so overkill it borders on campy, ie: picking cotton from the chair to plug his ears to save himself?? Lol It’s a clever comedy sketch idea (and I did love some of the stuff from key and peeles show), but it’s about as genius and subtle as ending a complex story with “and it was all a dream all along!”.
....I don’t know, it’s just not very pleasant to literally feel like I’m either forced to be either the only one who doesn’t get the joke because I get it too quickly, or I’m just antisocial? I don’t know, but you honestly seem like the one of the only voices I’ve heard that don’t sound like it’s coming from a hive mind of lobotomized “fellow Americans” so I’d love any kind of response. Thanks! Great analysis and thank you so damn much for being honest about this absurdity! And one final note; does it not feel like EVERYONE is actually the “racist” because they don’t seem to understand the exact point I thought this film made!? (Which still doesn’t make it a damn masterpiece) and even Jordan peele himself has recently been suddenly speaking in a sort of out of nowhere “blackface” faux “street” style that he’s always only used in caricatures on his comedy show? SMH....
Apt, apt analysis.
Thanks
Nope is his best film so far
Movie is garbage 😂
Movie was boring af
I say the same thing all the time & people tell me I'm crazy. I thought it sucked
I like your tasteful criticisms of this movie as you recognize some interesting points that seem to be lost on a great deal of the very audience lauding it. You admit the film has some merit and makes some damning points then shoots itself in the foot making a few things plain that are already obvious.
I disagree that a different presidential result would have provoked a different reaction.
Thanks for this. I think this movie was BAD.
you know to make a critique of a film you gotta actually be able to form a thought?
Movie was 🗑️, cope.
The movie was pretty good but so overrated. The people propping this movie up as a masterpiece are beyond dishonest both intellectually and critically. You know this too.
Just watched it after not knowing anything about the plot … deff overrated … for me I figured out what was going on very early and while I understand the idea , I felt the theme had already been told tome before .
So has horror plots go it’s very average
I’m a Trump supporter and I wouldn’t be surprised if today you were too. Wasn’t it nice having historically low black unemployment, $1.81 gas, no inflation, no war, and a president who didn’t embarrass us in front of the world by reading [end of quote] [repeat line] and having the White House try to cover it up? Let me tell ya I don’t think cofveve or mean tweets are so embarrassing anymore.
No inflation? Inflation has always been a thing. $1.81 gas? What you mean when Clinton was president? No war? Hahaha. Did you forget when Trump bombed Syria? Even Alex Jones, who is a Trump simp, was pissed about that.Trump did 4x the amount of Drone strikes that Obama did. He did a drone strike on an Iranian general for no real reason and he never ended any wars. We are still in Iraq. Ironically after the ridiculously ill advised assassination( which is an act of war) Iraqs government voted to expel all US military. That would have been a good time to finally end it, but Trump said no. He talked about leaving Afghanistan his whole presidency. Who ended the Afghanistan war? And Trump was just as embarrassing as a president as Biden is. I'm no fan of either, I'm not even defending Biden. I'm just here to tell you that you live in a bubble.

I totally disagree. Its not pretty good but overrated it is complete dog shit. One of the worst movies regardless of genre i have ever seen. Every single actor in this movies sucked, they did not act at all like this idiot Daniel Kaluya who seems to be on strong tranquilizers 24/7 or they totally overacted in an almost comical way. The writing was flimsy, the story was a bad joke, the cinematography was like in a sitcom and the whole movie was boring as hell.
@kingkaza I get your point but i beg to differ. Of course racism and sexism etc is often shown too one dimensional but to say that you can't make a movie about racism, sexism etc. without giving the antagonist legit character is also not true.
That depends entirely on what the filmmaker's artistic intention was. Did he or she want to show what racism does? Then it makes sense to tell the story from the perspective of the marginalized. You don't necessarily have to go into the antagonist's motivation.
But if the intention was to shed light on the mechanisms and motivations behind racism, sexism, etc., then of course it makes sense to address the perspective of the perpetrators.
Dude. You never actually gave any examples in the film. You just say “it’s too obvious, therefor there’s no reason to continue.” And you act as if there’s no other mysteries within the film, when there are actually many other mysteries.
I’m sorry but this review is crappy. It’s just you complaining about leftists and the awards show. It was social commentary with a lot of little mysteries, not to mention the alternate ending had more commentary on black people with the police.
Dude this is not a review , it’s a opinion piece .
