it's so satire it couldve been a dark comedy & thriller but it took itself too srsly. tbh it had a bland predictable story and the social commentary was too heavy handed
Yeah and that's why it fails, at least bad cheesy horror movies were fun to watch because they were funny. Not horror means new horror, which is either just bland and boring, or outright stupid but takes itself too seriously.
MY biggest problem is that it isn't a "horror masterpiece." The tension never builds. Every time you see an incident begin, you know exactly where it's going. He's confronted by his enemies; he shoots them and gets away. There isn't that one scene where he's hiding and you don't know if he'll be found. Suspense is always satisfied and that goes a long way. Even when he's subdued to brainwashing--and is down--we know exactly how the scene will end and begin. I'd take it a step further and say that even if there weren't any racial element at all--if everyone were white, or if it were a foreign film and the classes couldn't tell the racial differences apart--we'd only remember it for some hypnotic visuals, but nothing else.
I watched this movie late. Umm saying this movie is overrated is an understatement. When the credits rolled I was like "oh so it got praised because it ticks all the boxes for hollywood's left agenda"
As a horror fan and honestly makes me angry being this movie gets in just for the racial politics well there are tons of other amazing horror films that don’t get the recognition they deserve. “ The Witch , it follows , the babadook, hereditary and the decent all deserved recognition, but never got any ( the witch deserves the most )
@@TheMisfitPond The witch and hereditary were not scary whatsoever. But neither was get out. it follows was a very interesting concept. I wouldnt call it scary but it was more scarier than hereditary and the witch, which i laughed at during the movie.
Guillermo Kyosuke I don’t like using the word scary very much because it can mean so many different things to different people. But all I know is that the aesthetic atmosphere crafted in those films made me feel a sense of dread and that’s pretty effective for me
The Misfit Pond i want to agree so badly. But in the witch I didn’t feel it. And with hereditary, because the plot was so lost in the beginning, I was more concerned with trying to understand what the hell I was watching versus trying to sink myself into the film and feel that dread. When I watched the movie a second time, I understood what they were trying to do, but I didn’t feel it. And with hereditary, I was rooting for the film. I think some of these movies focus too much on trying to create atmosphere versus sound writing and strong/sound plot creation. I felt more dread with it follows because of that same reason (although the idea that there were times that they could sleep a little bit without being hunted down was a little bit too plot hole-ish for me). But nonetheless good video. You got a new subscriber. We can continue the convo I just didn’t want you to think that I was arguing for arguing sake or trolling lol.
Guillermo Kyosuke damn well that’s a bummer. I personally highly appreciate aesthetic atmospheres that utilize cinematography and score to enhance the mood and theme.. it Follow does that well to but it provides more of a conventional story vs. the witch and Hereditary. But I love everything about Hereditary and the Witch. Including the script and acting and everything else lol did you not feel anything during that decapitation sequence in Hereditary?... that shit had me petrified
It always bugged me that way after he won the oscar he finally confessed THE END wasn't the original. For me 3rd act was very abrupt and it felt like from another different movie.
Get Out is the same to Horror genre as Black Panther is to Comic genre. Overrated and riding on white guilt fetching them accolades and box office number but they are at best just watchable.
I loved this video and agree with you 100%. Thank you for taking the time and letting others know we are not the only one who feels this way. Great job!
2 years later so I'm late to the party. Coming into this years after the release and amidst the BLM movement, I can 100% appreciate and recognize the message and social commentary of this film. But that doesn't excuse the many plot holes and character mistakes. I think the big mistake with great movies that need a rewatch and then subpar movies with a great message (i.e. Get Out) is that the audience doesn't want to work past the shock factors and jump scares. And if there's a strong message to the film, they allow for way too many mistakes to be made, just to say "But the message, man!" There WERE a lot of cool little Easter eggs, but the parts that were meant to be hints were just way too obvious. A good message does not excuse sloppy writing. I LOVE Peele but he's got a ways to come for horror. Maybe he can pair with a great director for his next film.
Overrated is putting it *lightly* Get Out is terrible. I love the show Key & Peele so I was excited to see the movie. But my god it was a giant turd of a movie.
Thanks for this video. I think GET OUT works the same way as 13 REASONS WHY, people like it because they have this social issue as the main theme of the movie. I didn't hate GET OUT but it think its totally overrated cause it's predictible in a lame and boring way, it has totally stupid and unecessary narrative elements such as the stupid friend just being an exaggerated stereotype of black guy who attemps to be funny, also there's a lot of dumb and not justify things happening all the time, I'm not saying that verisimilitude is something necessary in a film, not at all, it's just that in GET OUT these things just contribute to make the movie more pointless.
2 years later I finally wanna comment. People were afraid to speak out due to all the politics and immediately being called racist if you didn't like this movie. It reminded me of a rip off of a couple movies. One called the skeleton key. Two stir of echoes. I figured this movie out way before its ending. It's all rip off of all cliches. Only difference is it's the politic aspect. The biracial couple and the struggles. Politics won this an oscar. So many more movies deserved way better. Oh he added typical this or that stereotype...such groundbreaking writing . Me and my friends who are in our late 30s and some just turning 40. Yes all my friends are black. We roasted this movie after we got out of the theatre. That night when we saw it won an oscar... we knew why. We joked and laughed about it. He won cause he black and whitey gave em his trophy. We were saying how he stole all ideas off whitey and spun it into his own story for fun. Then boom won an oscar. This movie has been done so many times already and way better. The only thing barely different is the biracial relationship and the struggles of that relationship. Best screenplay. Think about that. The writing of the entire script was so good they gave an award for it. This movie was mediocre at best. It was not funny as all the cliche stereotypes have been done. It was like watching their first youtube videos on funny issues. Its benign and insane this movie won an award. I accidently came across this and said it's time say this movie is way way way way to over rated. Its good... ish. There was no suspense. The being spoonfed info was a huge issue. How can there be suspense when the movie is showing me basically what's going on. Not supposed to know everything this soon in the movie. It felt like one large ball of cliche with a biracial couple in the middle. Some forced scenes why...cause the plot demands it. This didnt win cause it was good. It won cause its politics.
lol 😂 so true ! I hid the fact that I did not like this movie because as soon as I said I wasn’t a fan of it people assumed I hated it because of the race thing.. like what !? Lol NO i have been watching horror for over 20 years & it was just predictable & done before & just way way overrated. Lol not a bad film but not “Oscar” worthy in my opinion.
Ive found myself to be very impatient with the Oscars. Ive gotten to where I can’t even watch them anymore. Get Out had some interesting ideas. I liked the sunken place as well, and wished that they had explored that more. The simplistic idea of the flash bringing the victim out of the trance they’re in. So much of it was so predictable; but I did think the surgery was interesting. I thought the auction was ridiculous, as well as all the touching and ogling. I had the thought about the comedic relief in the TSA agent was so old time Amos and Andy. The funny black actor with bug eyes. That’s all I could think of every time I saw him. That character was such a waste. The film was only ok. Could have been so much better. It’s kind of a shame.
Denise Matthews couldn’t agree more with everything you just said lol now that the academy has a ‘best popular film’ category, it’s only gonna be downhill from here
Great man! that movie for me, really sucks, i dont understand how could it be in Oscars, is crazy, look like a political- racial thing or somethig, because dont diserve it at all.
It’s since the oscars so white debacle same reason moonlight which is overrated as shit beat out la la land and hacksawridge and it’s the academy’s own fault but it’s ridiculous. Want to nominate a black film then boyz n the hood and menace ii society should’ve got beat picture nomiantion because both those films are way better than get out and moonlight
liam holloway I actually think Moonlight is an extraordinary film that deserves its best picture win over la la land. But you’re right. For all I know, moonlight only won because of its black cast and LGBT theme. They’re terrified of another oscars so white controversy that they’re playing it super safe
Great commentary. It's kind of concerning that the only reasonable critique of the movie (irrespective of my own opinion) I could find was a somewhat obscure UA-camr (no offense, hope you channel grows a lot, it deserves to).
I agree 100%. Hollywood big shots think they are all politically "correct" in their films these days. This is why most of their movies nowadays suck...
It was a good movie, but i don’t think it was great enough to be nominated in the best pic category. I feel the academy just nominated to avoid people accusing them of not being “diverse” enough which is bs.
Sy Eckbe that’s the way I feel. If the Florida Project was centred around a black family or a black child, the film would’ve undoubtedly been nominated for awards
The Misfit Pond, My concern is that since they would need to meet this “quota” of diversity (hypothetically speaking) then this would mean more deserving nominees will have to be ignored. There’s only so many spots per category, unless they bump it up to 10 nominees per category like in the Best Pic category lol!
Sy Eckbe yea I totally agree. And it’s tragic because the best picture category has 10 slots and they don’t even utilized all of the slots... it’s like they purposely snub movies for no reason lol
As a black male i can't see how people like will Smith, who complained about the awards not nominating blacks for a year, could not foresee the future ramifications for his complaint. What happens is, in the future, the academy and the black nominee will lose validity. Whoever is nominated there after will have as you both stated, a question of intent by the audience. It will no longer be clear if a black nominee is nominated for his performance. I have a problem primarily with will Smith because his performance was atrocious in the football head injury movie. However, he can make the argument that, no one else that was nominated did a better job than anyone else of a different background. Because let's be honest, in reality, awards don't need to be dished out every year. Yes this is the best of every year, but there are years where no one in particular stands out(for good and bad reasons), just not will Smith. Then again, American whites dish out an insurmountable amount of films and acting performances compared to other backgrounds in America. The math itself is in the favor of the majority. There are more actresses and directors to choose from of a particular background. I believe that the American film industry and the Oscars can be used as a way to integrate the world. But the validity of the awards is at stake. As a small aside to that, A movie like Slumdog millionaire won big not because it was Indian, but because it was a great movie that spoke with the fabric of American Life. Which is great because i love America. But our preference of awards ceremony in the coming years will tell a lot about us as the validity of the Oscars (from will Smith to popular film) is on the decline. International film festivals should be the next best thing. And the awards should be handed out by cosmopolitans who are well versed in other cultures. Let's hope that the impulse of freedom, the American way, resonates at those award ceremonies
Dude thank you , I think everyone else did it for me , but again thank you :,,,,0 . Everywhere you turn it’s hard to get a word out with this film , with out coming off as a hater or a racist ( and I also happen to be a minority as well ) .lol and all you wanna say is that it’s a cool film , but it just doesn’t need all this given attention . Lol but nah , you shall not speak ill of our great “ get out “ film .
@@scrapplepig yeah , you’re a prime example of the comment I posted . Please try to understand that not everyone has to love ,what you love . And that, it doesn’t make someone a racist/ or sound like one . It’s rude and irresponsible to throw such statements out there .
Living in Iran, there are few things that can make us happy or exited. I, personally love movies which are banned, love books which are censored and video games which, let's face it, i'm too old for.nevertheless, I buy a smuggled Blue-ray or learnt English to read uncensored ebooks. Until last ear, Oscar's was an event that could make me exited or event give a hint of purposefulness to my every day life. So last week when I watched Get Out, you can imagine how I felt. Except for the opening scene Peele did nothing as a director, actors were just fine and story, man oh man, story was predictable. none of the characters changed in any way and there was no character development and the list can goes on and on. Now i have to face the fact that Academy members prefer trends to excellence. I have to ask myself , these last years when my favorite movie or director won did they deserve it or not. I know there are far more important things to be sad about but i'm already sad about those things. can't i have some thread to grip upon? man I don't like to say it but some people don't deserve the freedom they have. some people don't deserve equality that they have. Yet, equality and freedom are born through bad experiences.
hamed manoochehri dude thank you so much for your comment. I have never had a conversation about film with somebody from Iran and it seems that you have a good grasp on film as well. I totally agree with you on being upset at the academy awards. Because I’ve thought the same exact thing about how when my favourite director wins or favourite movie wins, is it out of pure artistic admiration or is it just purely based on trend or politics ...
loved your comment mate. really hit a good point on how excellence is outshined by current trends (usually political in this day and age imo). great comment though. thanks for sharing your opinion.
Dead on. I felt the same way about the movie. It was a decent watch but award worthy??? nah. This comment section gives me hope along with this video. I thought I was the only one who felt this way. This was a bold video to make in our liberal driven society now. Subscribed. Also get ready for the hype train on his next horror movie to be out of control (Us). The trailer does look good but I hope the movie is rated for what it is and not based on racial politics.
i enjoyed get out, but i understand all of your statements. ignore all those people who call you a racist for criticising a movie centered about black people they obviously have a small brain capacity
As someone who is not resident in USA yeah I think it's overrated. Nothing horrifying unless maybe if you are black. Just generic story but with a racial motif.
I rather liked this film and didn't mind its messaging so I was MORTIFIED to see how horrible Candyman was. The OG one was in your face, yeah, but oh my god it was so damn obnoxious in the newer one. The chick at the end literally says his name 5 times but he spares her and kills the racist, white cops like wtf. "Spread my name" bullshit It just comes across as really cheap to make Candyman some black vigilante which he never was, he was a vengeful spirit that rightfully took the souls of those that summoned him and found something in Helen that resembled his lover (which is why he didn't just outright brutalize her). In my opinion the film just does not work, there really isn't that feeling of dread or hypnotizing when Tony Todd speaks or Candyman takes the life of someone who doesn't deserve it. He just..kills bad people, that's it. Coming from a black man, by the way. Gotta make sure y'all don't think I'm a racist or something, I just think that an OG movie should be left OG if you clearly don't have the writing skills for it
I hate conservative politics and view points... and I still thought that this movie is super overrated, and that it pushes a weird "black" agenda that I don't think is fair or necessary.
Thanks for bringing out the political correctness and social justice warrior side of this movie. Basically all the good reviews for this movie was a matter of virtue signaling.
I waited an entire year to finally watch this. Thank you for confirming my reasons for waiting so long to see it. Way overhyped. I agree with all your points. Neither suspenseful nor funny.
MANY things in the world of “entertainment” are overrated. I enjoyed this flick. I’m watching & I’m interested. Good movie that blew up imo because ppl aren’t used to this IN YOUR FACE direction (at least the mainstream audience). They did make Chris out to be disillusioned when we know that he is very very *very* observant & intelligent.
i think that considering the budget and it being peeles first film “Get Out” was quite good. It’s pointless to separate the film from its politics as it was built around those politics. It’s praise comes from the political ideas of the film which are for the most part clever and ring true. You’re criticism of predictability is not without reason but Being predictable isn’t an objective downfall of the film. There’s a Hitchcock element in knowing that danger is present from the beginning. The girlfriend being in on the abductions could have been handled with more subtlety but thematically it works even if it doesn’t necessarily work cinematically. Now the two heavy criticisms I would personally lay on this film are your final point being that the film never challenges its ideas. I agree very much that there could be an actual discussion on the realities and sensationalism of white privilege and contemporary liberal rascism. These things are real but the film treats them as binary topics with absolut answers. In the films defence, it’s a horror comedy that didn’t aim to transcend beyond its message. This fact though only encourages the belief that it is overrated and the film was executed with little risk. my other major criticism that I think is far less excusable is the simplicity of the plot being stretched out to the point that the tsa friend had really no reason to exist beyond filling time and creating a contrived conclusion. Why am I seeing this character so much? Why are these jokes taking up so much time? Passive rascism manifesting into active violence is a fairly complicated and large topic. Was there not more to say that would have lifted this into a more understandable best pic nomination? A smart but not brilliant piece of work. Stylish but not innovative. A good message but not a game changer as I see it.
Thanks! This was mere pandering. It was Hollywood showing that “ Black Lives Matter to Them”. Like that tired old plot used in the lump of MARVEL CRAP Black Panther.
"Get Out'' is very over apreciated by the crowd, i did enjoy wacthing the scene when the he was in a hipnosis falling into a black abyss, but as for a the movie in general I don't agree with the praise and awards it received 乁( ˙ ω˙乁) the whole black&white concept was over rated period. "Get Out" is just a popularity movie and thats just a fact.
Decided to watch it a second time & I still feel this way as well. I see what they were going for but .. after watching horror for years it just didn’t cut it for me. Crazy thing is If I say this to a crowd it’s like I’m a terrible person 😂 this movie was way overrated though & they should of done so much more for the cast.
The good : nice visuals, cinematography, and humor. The overrated : all the Easter eggs supplementing the commentary on race and how white people see black people The film is predictable from start to finish. It’s very obvious that the girlfriend had something to do with everything going on. She plays way too innocent and happy camper. A lot of plot holes. How in the world do all these people that the girl dates and who end up missing, how in the world did these things not ever get traced back to her ? In a world of social media and no one really having a private life, how does this girl not even get questioned or tracked down when it comes to these missing people who have all dated her ? Every white person in this movie is an over exaggeration but because it’s making fun of white people, then it’s totally okay. It’s a strange double standard.
Man i hear people talk alot about this movie so idecide to watch it today. And when ending came i talk to myself "wait that it" didnt seem like oscar winning material to me .
It's funny because Peele thinks his movies are so deep when they're actually shallow as fuck, he's a pretentious twat that has no business writing horror
Great video! but I kind of disagree with your narrative problem regarding Chris's "poor" initial survival tactics. I feel like the director put a lot of effort into making the relationship between Chris and Rose very genuine and I for one believed they were completely in love. Thus, when he found the pictures I think Chris was prepared to give her one more chance with the keys for her to prove that with him it was genuine. Perhaps he held out hope that she was being forced into her role of bringing in the black people by her family, who unlike herself, had shown clear examples of racial prejudice.
This movie isn’t even good, it’s was hilariously bad! This was definitely a movie pushed by the liberal agenda. I’m black by the way, I dislike Peeles second film “Us” as well!
I totally agree. I can see it as being awarded for the political/social commentary but, it doesn't belong at the top of horror list. I keep seeing it as number 1. On the list I get, just not as number 1. I liked the movie, but, its not that scary.
I would add that the casting choices were off. How was Stanfield not the lead in this? Not that the actors were "bad", I just thought they were miscast. None of them were believable to me. Also, I enjoyed the pace of the final scenes, but I thought I noticed some cheap props (mic stands as candle holders) that took me out of the film. I thought these people were rich.
get out is one of my favorite movies I really enjoyed watching it, I do agree that it's over appreciated but it has a lot to do with the country's racial tension. the fact that you felt the need to do a 4-min intro trying to justify your response to avoid un-worrented hate is very telling to the times were living in.
haha well thank you for being kind and understanding towards my opinion. I really appreciate that. Yea you already know it. I made sure to establish and make everything clear in the intro to avoid un-warranted hate lol
My same thought, the movie is not bad, but is not good either, is just a "satire" of the racist culture, of an inexistent racist culture. and Hollywood is like, oh shit, its about black people being good and white people being bad, lets give them all the oscars.
It’s worth a watch but all those Oscar notations give me a break it was boring as fuck tbh and nothing special about The acting at all. This gets best picture nomination but dark knight dosent ok that’s enough I need to know about it
So you think "mother!" is a Masterpiece but "Get out" it's okay funny how that works, and i'm not a fanboy of "get out" and i don't hate "mother" either i'm a Aronofsky fan also, but a lot of what you said in this video i felt it when i watched "mother!" And again i love both films but both have very similar flaws IMHO.
WAProdthejohman I just had a discussion about this the other day lol imo, the difference between Get Out and Mother is it’s ambiguity. Because when I first saw Mother, I spent days discussing with my gf about what Aronofsky was trying to say with the film. It wasn’t until I read that Aronofsky unveiled that Mother was allegorical to the Bible and a lot of the film was a dissection of humanity, religion, and climate change, that I felt like I had a decent grasp on it. I personally just feel that mother is more ambiguous and not so blatantly obvious about what he saying in the way that Get Out is. But I know that’s just my opinion. I totally see your viewpoint though. Thanks for your comment
The Misfit Pond ok for me (and probably this is because where i'm from people is very religious, not that i am, i'm kinda more on the agnostic side of things) but right after i picked on the biblical references which basicly was when the two brothers appeared (i was a bit suspicious when Ed Harris's character showed up) but when the brothers appeared it was very obvious and therefore the film became really predictable for me also, specially knowing how much Aronofsky uses biblical references on his films, it was also reinforced a good amount of times where the film was going to, the themes racism = bad, religion = bad, there's not any other character who redeems racism/religion, both main characters make very questionable decisions, i think both films are great and both have it's own merits and flaws.
WAProdthejohman I can see what you’re saying man. But even if I were to grant you that, Mother! sill surpasses Get Out in terms of aesthetics and unpredictability in its narrative lol
The Misfit Pond lol cool man, i'm not saying that it doesn't i love Mother! I'm an aspiring filmmaker myself and i love every bit of the process that makes a film great (aesthetics included) but what Jordan Peele did was kinda cool too specially for a directorial debut that's all i'm saying
just watched this movie super late and it was ass. as a big fan of Us i had high hopes but it felt like a dumbass main character ignoring every possible realistic warning sign until a super subpar revenge scene closes it all. in comparison Django has a very similar premise of struggle and tactical issues all through out but it’s all worth it for the insane amazing emotion filled ending. Get Out in comparison to what i was expecting the ending to be halfway thru the movie, just mad a similar scene so subparly done in comparison
Always share opinions dude; and if people hate you for it, well those people are snowflakes. But Get Out was one of the most widely viewed and critically acclaimed of all the Oscar nominations. And you are not racist. And get out is not overappreciated. People who love it (me included), are not over appreciating, but rather it is much greater than the love some other people have for it. I understand that horror fans would be heartbroken, but please understand exactly who saw get out. It was the people (like me) who don't watch horror movies.
In my opinion, this movie was incoherent. It's supposed to be a thriller/horror film, but every other scene is loaded with ridiculous jokes. The white people are supposed to be racist against the black people, but they also are so jealous of the black people that they want to steal their bodies? And I understand it was just a movie, but people are praising it for it's social commentary. The only lesson I could gather is don't trust white people. All the good guys that were white (the girlfriend and the blind guy) ended up being secretly deceptive and evil. A lot of the humor amounted to the one black friend on the phone shouting at the protagonist not to trust white people. In the end, he was the hero and the opinion of don't trust white people is vindicated. When I was leaving the theater, I overheard someone saying, "see, i told you white people crazy" as if white people are actually kidnapping blacks and stealing their bodies.
I agree with most of this video, but for me the real flaw is the superhero third act, is the mc the batman? He just negged everyone in the house, and I mainly disagree with you calling it a decent movie, for me its Very good movie, but overrated
Honestly it just wasn't scary. That's it, no issue with the political nature except I think Jordan didn't put enough focus on making it atmospheric enough
GREAT Review, fully agree. I'm black myself, but the whole racial thing With this movie takes me out of this. The acting was good, but not great. Stupid and overrated, that is get out lmao.
I enjoyed Get Out quite a bit although I agree it ks somewhat overrated. Was shocked it was nominated for best picture. That being said I'm not sure you can label the ideas in the film as coming from the "far left." Living in Europe however its obvious that the centre ground in the states is shifted way further to the right than over here.
ianucci I mean I agree that in comparison to Europe, it wouldn’t be considered ‘far left’. But from our standard, it’s considered far left lol ‘white privilege’ ‘microagressions’ ‘implicit racism’ ‘black people cant be racist’ are all fat left social ideas in the states
Explain to me what "talking white" or "acting white" is supposed to mean? Is everybody that's able to speak English and properly pronounce their words "talking white"?
Get Out is revolutionary in the horror genre because it manages to be a movie that doesn't contain any horror, unless you only think about how good the idea would be if it had been made into a movie that was actually good. Man, some horror movies used to be really bad, but at least those were funny.
My biggest problem with this film is twofold: its over-stated racism, and, how it is actually completely contradictory to its own premise. What do I mean by this? Well, the overarching theme is that rich white people want to exploit black people. It's a pretty sophomoric throwback to american slavery, which is neither original nor disputed, so making this 'covert' story line requires people to either be in total denial of slavery, or in complete ignorance of it. The first problem is that the parable simply doesn't work. White slavers did not exploit black slaves out of envy of their physical attributes, they exploited them because the law allowed it. If it had been cheaper and legal to keep white, Asian or Martian slaves, they would have. This film is flat out saying the whites enslaved blacks out of envy rather than the historical reality at the time. It's ignorant and very self-indulgent. The second problem is that the recent social justice warrior narrative is that all black people are inherently oppressed and victimised in America by all forms of government, social, judicial and political institutions and that all white people experience an unparalleled privilege that is premeditated and openly and violently imposed at all levels. Is this were true, and the film-maker seems to subscribe to this narrative based on the film's themes, then it would make absolutely no sense for any white person in HIS notion of a white-power structured USA to ever want to a black person. This would make as much sense as Adolf Hitler suddenly deciding at the height of the Holocaust to convert to Judaism... what possible motive could he have for it? This is why I absolutely hate this film's theme. It's obscenely racist and panders to the social justice equivalent of a KKK member. Imagine if the races were swapped out, is there a single SJW that would not attack this as being a racist bit of propaganda that pushes the lie that all black people secretly wish they were white?
John Smith I sympathize with your arguments and definitely agree with the fact that if the races were switched, it wouldn’t have even made it to a single theatre.. it would’ve have been immediately deemed as racist propaganda... and this film gets a damn Oscar for it’s easy to read predictable race-baity screenplay over Three Billboards’s perfect screenplay. It’s shameful honestly. And that’s coming from someone who considers themselves more liberal than conservative .
Mate, like yourself, I am a very progressive, mixed race Atheist who grew up in a very conservative, racist and religious country, but part of what makes me rational is calling out bullshit wherever I see it. I'm unapologetic about expressing my views and pointing out the film's openly racist and self-contradicting narrative and I really do worry about what an absolute bonkers world I'll be forced to raise children in...
4:20 if you wanna get straight to the point
That is typically the case... Oh, you mean in the video!
Wow. This review is extremely coherent. It really voices my gripes with this overrated movie. I have mad respect for you voicing your opinion.
Overrated AF. Stupid clichés, wooden flat characters, boring/lame dialogue, and predictable anti-white themes
forrest Hunsinger lol harsh but very true
it's so satire it couldve been a dark comedy & thriller but it took itself too srsly. tbh it had a bland predictable story and the social commentary was too heavy handed
yes!!! i couldnt stop laughing!
If you dont get out , you're racist
I watched this movie late. Umm saying this movie is overrated is an understatement. When the credits rolled I was like "oh so it got praised because it ticks all the boxes for hollywood's left agenda"
black void yea that’s the same vibe I got from it obviously lol thanks for your feedback!
ok I'am not the only one who thought it is was overrated thanks!!!!
Most people being honest probably do too but are afraid to say so.
@@bobsmith-ji2uh EXACTLY they are 100% afraid of criticizing a BLACK DIRECTOR WHO FIGHTS THE EVIL WHITE DEVIL!!!!
As a horror fan and honestly makes me angry being this movie gets in just for the racial politics well there are tons of other amazing horror films that don’t get the recognition they deserve. “ The Witch , it follows , the babadook, hereditary and the decent all deserved recognition, but never got any ( the witch deserves the most )
G -Watch I couldn’t agree more! The Witch is one of best horror films of the decade. Same with Hereditary
The biggest problem with the opening scene is that it negates the existence for the rest of the film.
Why didn't they just kidnap Chris?
WTF wow.. great point lol so freakin true
That was the brothers way/tactic for getting people. The rest of the movie shows the sisters way.
It always bugged me that way after he won the oscar he finally confessed THE END wasn't the original. For me 3rd act was very abrupt and it felt like from another different movie.
Couldn’t agree with you more. Beautiful cinematography and good acting, but the story is just so obvious and in your face.
Get Out is the same to Horror genre as Black Panther is to Comic genre. Overrated and riding on white guilt fetching them accolades and box office number but they are at best just watchable.
totally agree. it's not interesting because the main point isn't believable.
I loved this video and agree with you 100%. Thank you for taking the time and letting others know we are not the only one who feels this way. Great job!
Dude, Jordan Peele is a hack. Great cinematography, but bad everything else.
Alex Rud I actually think the camera work was much better in Us than in Get Out. Us wasnt all that great either though imo
10000000% agree with that he is a hack!
And if there's a strong message to the film, they allow for way too many mistakes to be made, just to say "But the message, man!"
There WERE a lot of cool little Easter eggs, but the parts that were meant to be hints were just way too obvious.
A good message does not excuse sloppy writing. I LOVE Peele but he's got a ways to come for horror. Maybe he can pair with a great director for his next film.
Holly Herzog i honestly couldn’t agree more. I love your take. It’s very nuanced and insightful !
How did a guy strapped to a chair stick cotton into his ear?
I couldn't agree more dude. thanks for your comment!
great video dude. but i personally think you gave it way more credit than it deserves lol
Did anyone else think that they were watching a Dave Chappell show sketch?
Denise Matthews couldn’t agree more with everything you just said lol now that the academy has a ‘best popular film’ category, it’s only gonna be downhill from here
Great man! that movie for me, really sucks, i dont understand how could it be in Oscars, is crazy, look like a political- racial thing or somethig, because dont diserve it at all.
apsarabgl I totally agree. It was 100% due to racial politics
But if it was... Mudbound has a more powerfull message, and was a better movie completely. Mmmm... very weird.
apsarabgl yea but Get Out was more popular.. and the easy to grasp racial messages resonated with more people
It’s since the oscars so white debacle same reason moonlight which is overrated as shit beat out la la land and hacksawridge and it’s the academy’s own fault but it’s ridiculous.
Nah man saying my channel is obscure is generous lol I’m glad you enjoyed the video dude.
David Lynch never got an Oscar but Peele gets one on his first attempt at a movie that fell pretty flat, wow 😳. Hollywood white guilt anyone? Uh, yup.
I agree 100%. Hollywood big shots think they are all politically "correct" in their films these days. This is why most of their movies nowadays suck...
Lynch did a movie about Harvey Weinstein types, so I guess that didn't jibe well with many of them.
Which film was that? I remember the Mafia boss in Lost Highway pressuring Patricia Arquette's character to strip for him at gunpoint.
The Misfit Pond, absolutely.
We need to make a club or something... hahahahahahahah
You sound like a racist.
@@scrapplepig yeah , you’re a prime example of the comment I posted . Please try to understand that not everyone has to love ,what you love . And that, it doesn’t make someone a racist/ or sound like one . It’s rude and irresponsible to throw such statements out there .
@@kimiwari No I was only kidding. I know what you mean in your first post.
@@scrapplepig oh , okay lol sorry
I couldn’t really tell you were being sarcastic
Tommy1298 thanks dude I really appreciate it
And Black Panther was kinda average (at best) too
Really liked the film right up until the end, the ending really disappointed me.
"Spread my name" bullshit
It just comes across as really cheap to make Candyman some black vigilante which he never was, he was a vengeful spirit that rightfully took the souls of those that summoned him and found something in Helen that resembled his lover (which is why he didn't just outright brutalize her). In my opinion the film just does not work, there really isn't that feeling of dread or hypnotizing when Tony Todd speaks or Candyman takes the life of someone who doesn't deserve it. He just..kills bad people, that's it.
Coming from a black man, by the way. Gotta make sure y'all don't think I'm a racist or something, I just think that an OG movie should be left OG if you clearly don't have the writing skills for it
I agree with u mate,i thought it was ok but nothing special.ive just watched US and that’s not great either after all the hype.good video mate
I hate conservative politics and view points... and I still thought that this movie is super overrated, and that it pushes a weird "black" agenda that I don't think is fair or necessary.
Couldn't even finish the movie, it was awful
Thanks for bringing out the political correctness and social justice warrior side of this movie. Basically all the good reviews for this movie was a matter of virtue signaling.
No problem. Yea I also felt that people were afraid to criticize it for reasons like that.
"Because he's not our hero. He's a silent guardian. A watchful protector. A Dark Knight."
THANK YOU
haha anytime. no man thank you for your support!
Great video! You should make an updated video of your favorite films and I totally agree with you opinions
I waited an entire year to finally watch this. Thank you for confirming my reasons for waiting so long to see it. Way overhyped. I agree with all your points. Neither suspenseful nor funny.
Clint Bandura no problem! I’m glad you felt the same way!
"Get Out'' is very over apreciated by the crowd, i did enjoy wacthing the scene when the he was in a hipnosis falling into a black abyss, but as for a the movie in general I don't agree with the praise and awards it received
乁( ˙ ω˙乁) the whole black&white concept was over rated period. "Get Out" is just a popularity movie and thats just a fact.
It’s criminal this Video only has 200 views. I think it’s a good movie but waaaay overhyped. I mean you said it best @academy awards
It was overrated and so, so predictable. I saw the twist about a few minutes in. So it was just boring
I just keep liking you more and more! You are awesome
Wow thanks man!! I’m glad you’re sticking around!
am i the only one who genuinely thought this movie was a comedy????????????????
The good : nice visuals, cinematography, and humor.
The overrated : all the Easter eggs supplementing the commentary on race and how white people see black people
The film is predictable from start to finish.
It's not a horror movie
Black man here. I agree with you, 100%. It being "overrated" is "the soft bigotry of low expectations" personified.
chris smith film industry has lost its way. Boyz n the should’ve won awards not get out.
Great video! Subscribed
Man i hear people talk alot about this movie so idecide to watch it today. And when ending came i talk to myself "wait that it" didnt seem like oscar winning material to me .
This is a disappointing remake of "The Skeleton Key."
It's funny because Peele thinks his movies are so deep when they're actually shallow as fuck, he's a pretentious twat that has no business writing horror
Right there with ya man... Extremely overrated! This film focuses more on racism then horror or ever fantasy.
Very good point.....
@@mickeyjohnson5247 Ahaha thank you
I think it is a b movie at best
This movie isn’t even good, it’s was hilariously bad! This was definitely a movie pushed by the liberal agenda. I’m black by the way, I dislike Peeles second film “Us” as well!
It didn't suck, but I did not find it scary.
This movie is a good time waster, but that's about it
I totally agree. I can see it as being awarded for the political/social commentary but, it doesn't belong at the top of horror list. I keep seeing it as number 1. On the list I get, just not as number 1. I liked the movie, but, its not that scary.
And that's the horror: this went to n1. and modern horror is not horrifying, the mother of all plot twists.
Hey, can you review "On Body and Soul"? It's on Netflix
Reza I’ll see if I can check that out. Looks interesting
What did you think of Star Wars the last Jedi parody!
I don't have a racist bone in my body, I can't stand Trump and I hated this movie. I think It was fuckin awful
Exactly what I was thinking. Lakeith Stanfield should have been the lead. He is way better than the other guy.
The Academy hates horror movies, unless you play to white guilt.
get out is one of my favorite movies I really enjoyed watching it, I do agree that it's over appreciated but it has a lot to do with the country's racial tension. the fact that you felt the need to do a 4-min intro trying to justify your response to avoid un-worrented hate is very telling to the times were living in.
haha well thank you for being kind and understanding towards my opinion. I really appreciate that. Yea you already know it. I made sure to establish and make everything clear in the intro to avoid un-warranted hate lol
Dude lives in ATL,GA. 4min wont be nearly enough! Watch!!
The racial tension stoked by the media and reinforced by an education system that enamours victim culture
Jesus there’s always one. don’t like a black film then you’re racist.
My same thought, the movie is not bad, but is not good either, is just a "satire" of the racist culture, of an inexistent racist culture. and Hollywood is like, oh shit, its about black people being good and white people being bad, lets give them all the oscars.
It borrows a lot of concept elements from skeleton key (2005) . Go watch it And you can see the similarities
It’s decent. It was made by a black man, Best picture!! We’re not racist!
I agree with what he's saying, except the scene where Chris descends into the sunken place is an easy shot which doesn't require much skill to shoot.
Everyone's ok with the brain transplants?
It’s worth a watch but all those Oscar notations give me a break it was boring as fuck tbh and nothing special about The acting at all. This gets best picture nomination but dark knight dosent ok that’s enough I need to know about it
BlackKlansman was amazing, but only because of the performances of the Evil Whities in the movie.
There is nothing ambiguous about Mother! That film was a shovel to the head in terms of its symbolism imo
just watched this movie super late and it was ass. as a big fan of Us i had high hopes but it felt like a dumbass main character ignoring every possible realistic warning sign until a super subpar revenge scene closes it all. in comparison Django has a very similar premise of struggle and tactical issues all through out but it’s all worth it for the insane amazing emotion filled ending.
I cam see an underrated character, the skeleton stag. What happened to that thing?
I agree with the above. Overrated. A ‘coming of age’ movie. More like, ‘what made me this way?’ movie.
I agree with most of this video, but for me the real flaw is the superhero third act, is the mc the batman? He just negged everyone in the house, and I mainly disagree with you calling it a decent movie, for me its Very good movie, but overrated
the hereditary is much beter
MoneyHustle GamesBramBram i very much agree with you
I just found it boring and dull. I respect peeles direction effort and original screenplay but it was very slow and distasteful.
Honestly it just wasn't scary. That's it, no issue with the political nature except I think Jordan didn't put enough focus on making it atmospheric enough
I thought it was good, but not the masterpiece that people made it out to be.
Oh "Get Out" of town -- pun intended.
Paul Rossy you sir... deserve a cookie 🍪
This movie is fucking dumb. The lead actor annoys me with all his crying and blank stares.
GREAT Review, fully agree. I'm black myself, but the whole racial thing
With this movie takes me out of this. The acting was good, but not great. Stupid and overrated, that is get out lmao.
Get out was far from overated, it was a good movie that that exceeded expectations and had an ending that was unexpected. Black panther was overrated
Maybe somewhere in the 80's in a top 100 horror list.
Hereditary is where its at.
Midsommar lol don’t even know whether I like the film or not or what to even make of it but watched it three times it’s hilarious and just weird
Damn you look exactly like Che Guevara
He was a good looking guy. I’ll take it lol
Clint Bandura harsh but fair
Lmfao the likes to views ratio says everything
It is Completely overrated. Everyone was praising it for its originality but it’s literally the “Skeleton Key” with racist undertones.
I liked it’s message
