@ Six-Zero-Six Defender Of Justice! "I touched a word in my book and waited for it to show me the definition... It never did."" I've done the same thing! Or I've seen something underlined and immediately my hand goes to click on the hyperlink. What has the interweb done to us? LOL! Glad I am not alone!
I work at a library so i see books I want to read ALL the time. I used to take a pic of the covers but here lately, to save space on my phone, I add the books to my goodreads "to read" list. I've gone a bit crazy and now have like 75 series names on it.....I don't even wanna know how many books it would be total after adding each individual title in each series!
Lucky you to get to work in a library!! 75 series, Wow!! You have a bunch of reading to do :) I need to utilize goodreads better for the books I'm interested in, but not sure when I'll get around to reading. Maybe an "interested in reading shelf"? At least it would be easy to browse, unlike taking photos and downloading samples. Thanks for the comment!
Thank you for sharing!! 😊I love hard back books and I own a eReader. But I also love my eReader. I'm dyslexic and it's so much easier reading on my eReader. I can adjust the spacing and the fonts. And the dictionary is wonderful😄
You are so right! I neglected to mention the font adjustment that is possible on an eReader but it works wonders for several reasons as you describe. Thanks for the comment!
Ur bedroom is beautiful, the walls r amazing😊I listen to audio books a lot..I’m going look into getting a kindle..New sub..Please keep it coming on what made me become a subscriber🥰
:D You said that before you have to carry 1 or 2 books in the past but in my case, that was a ridiculous 5 to 6 books. Not because I'm able to read so many books in one week or two but because I'm a programmer and I love to have the choice to read about design one moment and then about a language at another moment. Kindle save my life for that.
That's an excellent point! I typically only read one book at a time but for those who like (or need) to keep several going at once, reading on Kindle is a great way to add flexibility. I had not thought about that aspect so thanks for sharing!
Thank you for sharing! I really prefer using my Voyage to physical books now as well. It's so much easier to hold, I love having so many books in one place, and I never have to search for the right light to read in. It also reminds me of how magical the early macs & other older technology felt to use. Maybe someday I will pick up the Oasis, now the cases are sold separately (I needed a vegan case too!) Looking forward to checking out your other videos! :D
-The ability to search for a particular word or phrase in an ebook is also a very handy feature. -Ebooks are also good for those non-fiction books where you might only read a few chapters. -I personally will buy an ebook of a physical book if it's small, thin or oddly sized. -Ebooks also allow for adjusting the size of the font which is good for readers with poor vision or who want to protect their vision. -Does your e-reader have the ability to print your highlights ?
I love the search feature as well! Particularly for when I have a memory of a passage in the book but can't locate it then it is easier to find by searching a key words. I have never used the print feature but I do think there is a way to download my highlights and notes (not sure?) However, reviewing my highlights and notes easily is my favorite feature of reading eBooks (other than saving space in my small-ish apartment). The biggest downside to the my reader is that if a work of non-fiction contains maps or drawings these do not show up clearly on a kindle. Also, not all ebook editions are created equal... sometimes the publisher does not hyperlinks to footnotes and that is maddening to me.
I buy ebooks bec they are cheaper. Then I buy the physical copies of the ones I found I actually like. It wasn't always like this. But I have become pickier, the older I get. And being disappointed with a book in kindle form is less aggravating.
Thanks for sharing that info..I have the Paperwhite, really the only difference in it and the Voyage, besides the lights, the page turner, which could be handy, the way I hold my device to read. Dictionary iis a great tool, recently I purchased a physical book and while reading I came across a word I wanted definition for, being so used to e-book, I actually long pressed on the word, took me a moment to realize that wasn't going to work. Funny how quickly we can get used to technology. I work in maritime field and am away from home a lot, and the e-book is so handy for my line of work and travel. Thanks again and kind regards. p.s. I purchased the Alyc Helms book based on your review...
Hahaha....I've done that too - reach out to touch a word in a print book for the definition and then realize, ummm yeah, no that won't work...lol. I hope you enjoy the Alyc Helms book!! Let me know what you think about it.
You can also download books to your computer then transfer them to the device via usb. I do this because I don't have wifi, by choice. All my internet is wired via homeplugs/powerlines which use the house's electrical circuit.
What a great review and thanks also for not adding background music to your informative video. It's been almost a year, but if your offer for the unused kindle is still standing, I would love to have it (here in Australia?)
I've really not made good use of the highlighting/dictionary features on ereaders. Duh! One of my problems in general has been that I've noticed I don't quite retain as much on an ebook as I do on a physical one. It makes no sense to me. (Maybe if I used the highlighting and other features, it would help me interact a bit more.) I do think I need to start reading more ebooks. As much as I adore physical books, they do take up way too much space. Plus, the convenience factor can't be beat!
I love physical books as objects and I have a hard time marking them up with notes and highlights but of course have no problem with doing so in an electronic version. It is also interesting to go back and look through a book a year or two after I read it to see the highlights of what I thought was interesting. And I'm totally spoiled with the built in dictionary : )
Great video! I also read pretty much exclusively from my kindle. I have a Paperwhite, and I love it. It was interesting to hear your reasons for getting the Voyage -- I might have to upgrade soon! I really like the page forward and back feature. The Paperwhite will occasionally get confused on forwards & backwards -- not quite sure how that happens, but it does.
The advance feature on the Voyage took a little getting used to but I really like it now, but so far no problems with it advancing or back as it's supposed to. I also have liked the adjustable lighting as I tend to find myself reading in odd places sometimes. My previous Kindle was the basic one that didn't have lighting at all and so I feel like I've hit the jackpot with the Voyage...lol. Thanks for the comment and I'm glad you enjoyed the video!!
I uses my apple e-reader the orenge appt with the white book on if, I can’t take it everywhere with me because ita 12.9 inches and my bag isn’t big is nit big wnought to carry it, but it has for my books., so I have almost 300 books and 1k odds on my kindle what I love bout ebooks is it saves me space and it’s portable and money, but I prefer physical books, but I some times use ebooks, but the plb is I’m trying to find out how to read ebook and physical books withought commuting because I don’t allways get out so how the heck can I do both? So I can make more room for more books in physical form?
You know, I've never been into eBooks but I've never heard anybody point out the huge advantage of reading samples, and avoiding 'book hauls'. I buy so many books I never get round to reading. Though I'm not sure if I want to stop buying them ;)
I agree and love my kindle, only thing is......I still collect folio or easton press books, as I love leather and cloth bound books. Saying that, I don't nearly buy as many real books, unless it's a special version. And yes, when I do occasionally read a real book, I find myself touching certain words and then instantaneously realize that it's not my kindle. As a bibliophile, it's a glorious time for reading and collecting. P.S. my favorite aspect of the kindle is being to read old classics of literature or old scholarly books, is that they're either FREE or of very little expense., you can literally buy the entire Dickens, Poe etc collections, including biographies, poems etc for 2 to 3 bucks!
Oh I totally get that! I do own some physical books and would like to collect some special editions and first editions in the future. I have also had to resist the urge to touch words in a physical book expecting a dictionary...lol. It's funny how that habit develops! The classics are great to find cheap on Kindle for sure. I have found though that sometimes the freebies are sloppy editions that aren't marked or searchable by chapter, etc. Still, there is no excuse for not reading 19th century classic works if you have Kindle that's for sure!
Thanks so much! I know I say um a lot, it is one of my worst habits. I like to try to keep my videos unscripted so sometimes fumble around awkwardly and say um as a default but tell your wife I'm trying to get better about it : )
EarnestlyEston I actually had a great time laughing a lot at some strings of “ums.” I sent my mom a link and my kids a link and asked them to count your “ums” I kept rewinding the part where you said “um” 3 times in a row. I said to my wife, laughing “look at this guy, he is so adoreable.” My Wife rolled her eyes.
And just to mention, the biggest things I really appreciate with your videos are your sincerity, authenticity, and your fervor and tenacity for literature. Providing your joy of of reading gives people motivation for continuing their love of reading. Your personality really does rub off on me in a warm hearted way as I am sure it does so for others. It is nice and refreshing to see someone so positive and uplifting as you in a world so full of negativity and toxicity. Thank you.
I really love kindle but Amazon should lower their eBook price.....in most of ebooks there are no major difference in price of their paperback version..........but i still love too convert pdf book file into .mobi file ...its good too read. for my pointof view kindle is onetime investment for the books...because you can download too many free books..
+mohil patel I completely agree about pricing! Plus, as I have chatted about on some of my book chat videos, too often publishers put out inferior electronic editions and then sell them for around the same price as a paperback. For example, editions with no cover art, the table of contents don't hyperlink to the chapters or the footnotes and/or notes are not associated with the text. Very annoying! The electronic editions of books should be treated with the same care by publishers as print editions are.
Yeah that's definitely a downside. I recently did a video where I chat about it - check it out if you're interested... ua-cam.com/video/lkd91BDP5oo/v-deo.html
I touched a word in my book and waited for it to show me the definition... It never did.
Hahahaha... I understand! I hate having to google a definition when I'm reading a print book :)
Six-Zero-Six Defender Of Justice! Lol, iBooks are great cause you find out new words while reading on a physical book, I skip difficult words.
Me too!!!
@ Six-Zero-Six Defender Of Justice!

Wow i've found my people! I've been reading almost exclusively on an ereader since my first kindle keyboard about a decade ago.
Thank you for sharing! I really prefer using my Voyage to physical books now as well. The Oasis cover is plethor, no?
No, from what I was able to find out it is apparently real animal skin leather.
Have you read Rollo May's "Love and Will"? One of my favorites.
I like e-books because I'm farsighted, and need to jack the font size up in order to read the book. I'm subscribing.
You can also download books to your computer then transfer them to the device via usb. I do this because I don't have wifi, by choice. All my internet is wired via homeplugs/powerlines which use the house's electrical circuit.
Interesting, I've heard of that technology but don't have any experience with it. Thanks for the comment!
What a great review and thanks also for not adding background music to your informative video. It's been almost a year, but if your offer for the unused kindle is still standing, I would love to have it (here in Australia?)
Thanks for commenting! I've already gifted the kindle though unfortunately : (
Thank you very much for taking the time to reply. I continue to enjoy your reviews.

Ty for sharing. I just love my Voyager too!❤️😍🎈
I like reading about Bletchley Park and science
My wife and I enjoy your videos. Although, she says you say the word “um” too much. Keep up the great work!!!

Your very kind comments have made my day : ) I hesitate to ask what the count of ums turned out to be...lol.
EarnestlyEston I just watched your video for the third time and I got 109 but I think about 10 of those were ‘uh’s’

I need to read more ebooks. That's not helped by the fact that I lost my kobo this summer. I have my fingers crossed for a new ereader for Christmas.
Sorry about your lost Kobo...I would be a bit disoriented without my reader. Good luck at Christmas!!
Wow your shirt is so cool
Thanks!
When you buy any ebook, you know you don't actually own them, right?
Yeah that's definitely a downside. I recently did a video where I chat about it - check it out if you're interested... ua-cam.com/video/lkd91BDP5oo/v-deo.html
I’ll take the kindle off your hands if you still have it lol
