Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 тра 2024
- UTM parameters for Facebook ads allow you to track the performance of you ads using Google Analytics. Once you set up Dynamic UTM Parameters for your Facebook ads, you'll be able to see granular information inside Google Analytics about which ads are driving traffic, and which ones are leading to conversions.
With Apple's iOS 14 privacy changes impacting Facebook ad tracking, UTM tracking for Facebook ads is another way to get more insights into the performance of your campaigns to help close the gap created by the changes.
This video will show you how to set up dynamic UTM parameters for your Facebook ads and how to view that data inside Google Analytics.

How can we get rid of not set/ not provided from analytics?
Thank You!
Great Video!👍🏼
thank you so much!
Hey Andrew, Thank you for making this video. Any difference when you make your UTM from the Campaign URL Builder from GA vs Facebook Ad directly?
Great video mate
Thanks!

Hey, thanks for such valuable information. I need to know if there any of your videos on google analytics for setting up goals? Or you can suggest some course or material for this.
Thank you a lot man ! 👍👍👍
My pleasure!
Thanks!
No problem!
You are content are gem and out of box. Learned so much. I have a question. Does this option would also even show the data inside FB Analytics? As I can see people still use fbclid for thier ads.
muy buena gracias 👍
Hi thank you for this video. I am very new to this, and have a question. Do I need to set up GA4 or GA properties first for the GA to read these UTMs?
This is great video. Thanks for sharing Andrew. How do I view the custom paramater "AdSetName" in analytics?
New to your channel.. I am worried with IOs 14+14.5 I don't Know what would happen. I am going to run some ads with Facebook. Now you saved my money and me now I can track 😊
Thank you so much for this tutorial! One question - do you know how to resolve the "Multiple Link URLs Without Group Rules" error? I can't seem to figure out why this is showing...
Thank you for the valuable video. Super informative. In the last section of the video when in the google analytics, you didn't mention how to find which ad set brought in a sale.
Yes, where do we find this?
Agree, would be good to see this as well. I guess one workaround for this would be to include it in the ad content naming convention.
Thanks😊
You’re welcome!
nice video mate
Cheers Dean
Hey Andrew! Great video - do you have any content on goal setting in GA? Ive tried... maybe 30 times and stuff just aint working.. would be awesome if you could tell me a dummies ways of setting this up haha
This is Genius stuff. Kudos
Cheers!
Hey Andrew, great video! Why are there so many (not set) metrics or information. That happens to me a lot in most of my campaigns. I set the exact same way as you the utms, and still in most of my paid campaigns metrics in Google Analytics, I see (not set)
Hi Andrew, thanks for this video. I had similar set up but I am getting a lot of 'not set', for approx 50% of my conversion so hard to track accurate data. One thing I read up on was it may be because my I don't have the campaign medium as 'cpc'. Can you help or advise at all please, would really appreciate it. Thanks!
This is great but I feel I have missed a step or another video? How did you get them metrics preset in GA4? Mine just has the basic overview that comes setup when you connect GA4 to Facebook....
Do we have to add only the homepage url and it will track the full journey to thank you page? or do we have to add only the url we intend to track? thank you for this valuable info Andrew!
Thanks so much!!! Uhm, the iOS changes won't affect the Facebook tracking for Android and PC? So does the data become duplicate in facebook ads and google analytics? (sorry for the noov question)
Hey Andrew, great video - exactly what I was looking for and had a great level of detail! I have 2 questions for you:
1) If we set the campaign name to dynamically fill, and for some reason we edit & change the campaign name, will the dynamic fill pick up on this change?
2) If someone clicks on my ad to make a purchase, but is directed to Paypal or Afterpay to complete a payment, how does this affect the UTM tracking? I have already excluded Afterpay on my referral exclusion list. Does that mean that Analytics will still attribute that purchase to the relevant UTM?
Keep up the good work, great insights :)
Hey Chris! Glad it was helpful.
1 - no, unfortunately it won't
2 - it will break tracking whenever you don’t have your analytics tag installed on a site. In that case since you don’t own the sites you can’t add your tag so it will break it. It’s also difficult to track across different domains and that will often also break tracking even if you have your GA tag on every page
This was indeed a great learning video, Andrew. Thank you so much!😁 Simplified application into use and achieve great insights. I do have 1 question though - Where can I find the last extra added parameter (i.e, asset level data) in Google Analytics? I have been trying to access that information for a long time now, tried everything but couldn't. Could you please help? Would really help me attribute the sales properly which otherwise are not reflected in Fb Ads Manager.
i have same question, unable to view third parameter
I came looking for the same, seems Andrew is also looking for it.
Great video! So how do we use this information to track conversions? If I set a goal for a thank you page and want to use that for conversions how do I diffrentiate between organic and paid? IF all goals get uploaded to FB?
Hi, I have read few articles and they mentions to keep the MEDIUM consistent across all SOURCES e.g. Fb / Paid, Google / Paid etc. to have a good clean report in GA. But I am also interested in using Placements to get the data that from where people click more. Any tips for this and what do you suggest about keeping same medium across all Sources ? Thanks.
great content. shopify doesnt offer a straight up thank you page it is unique to each user. in this case what should one expect and do? thanks
Do you have a video on how to set up goals so we can see that data under Source/Medium?
Superrrrrrrr useful!
Glad to hear that!
Thanks for this amazing video which I've applied on my FB ads and really tracked the orders that were missing in FB ads manager. I have a question that how I can find the custom UTM field like "adset name" in the Google Analytics?
I'd love to know this too
Hi man did you find it ??
Hello Andrew, Great video as usual. I have a question, you put the UTMs parameter in the tracking section. There's another one, down the URL section, Is that different to use? and which one from them is the best.
Hey Ahmed, I’m not sure what you mean when you say there’s 2 places, but the best place to put the UTM’s is the one I show in the video
Hi Andrew, thanks for sharing such valuable content! :) I implemented the exact same setup for my ads, while the tracking is showing up nicely on Google Analytics I struggle to find the parameters for AdSetName. It only shows {AdName} under Ad Content. Could you shed some light please on where I can find the custom parameters?
Hey I might be able to help you... let me know if this works.
When he says to click on "other" and then type in "content' and then you click "ad content"
instead of this step try clicking "commonly used" or searching it. Then click "campaign"
I hope this helps but I was having the same issue and then everything showed up when I went to this option in google analytics.
Hey Andrew, great content! Two questions!
1) Let's say I have 20 ads, do I need to do this process for each ad? Or does this ensure all my ads are set up with UTM Parameters?
2) Also, how long does it take for the UTM data to populate on Google Analytics?
Hey!
1. You just need to do it for the first one, then copy and paste the UTM parameters from that ad over to all of your others exactly as it is.
2. Timing is the same as all Google Analytics data
@@AndrewHubbard1 Hi, you mean to build for 1st one and then copy paste the url (with utm parameters) in other ads at the location where you usually insert website link only ?
Great
Can you use this to see the country and/or age of the person who made the purchase?
If yes. Can you let me know how?
Thanks
Super helpful! Thank you. One question: for the data like "image 1, text 1" can we instead verbatim put in the image name followed by text e.g. "red wagon pic, Go fast" to make it easier to recognize the ad? Or should I just put all the specifics in the ad name when I create the ad?
For sure! Do what’s easiest / most convenient for you
Thank you so much for sharing this.
I tried doing the same process but don't know why the data is not being shown inside google analytics
My Que is:-
Is it necessary that the Facebook account and google analytics account should have the same email id to track Facebook ads in google analytics? Pls guide me
Hey andrew, how could i set those purchases goals in google analytics??
This was great! I have a doubt though. It feels like these UTMs will only allow me to track my website visitors and where they are coming from. How can I track who is not only visiting the webinar page on my website but who is also signing up and where that audience is primarily coming from? For example, if I am running google and fb ads to promote a webinar on my website, how can I know which of the two sources are giving me more conversions i.e. sign-ups, so I can focus my marketing budget accordingly.
I would suggest tracking the Thank You page [ie. the success/confirmation landing page that you redirect users to after they sign up for your webinar]. In terms of determining the source of these sign-ups though - I'm assuming Google Analytics will automatically group them into their default channel groupings. Alternatively, you can set up Goals under Admin settings and create a goal for your Thank You page. Hopefully Andrew can provide some clarity around this.
Hi Andrew! Really good video, super clear as always! In GA I can see the FB campaigns, ad names, placements, etc... but I can't see the revenue (it is almost always set to 0). Is there a way to track the revenue for each campaign by using UTM parameters?
Great Question. Please let me know if you found a solution
Did you figure it out? Thanks
GA 360
Hey Giosue, you will have to setup Goals for that!
Activate the Ecommerce option in Your GA and create goals ATC, Checkout, IG...
Can you do series on google analytics?
@Andrew Hubbard Thank you for the informative video.
One doubt.
is it necessary to fill the campaign builder before creating a custom URL parameter in Facebook?
OR
Just create a custom URL parameter in Facebook and the analytics appear on google.
Hey Sunny - you don’t have to use the campaign builder first. It’s just a tool to create the UTM string. You can definitely just create a custom parameter in Facebook and that will appear in google
@@AndrewHubbard1 thanks for reply. I have been searching it over the internet.. I did not find any answer… damn thats crazy technology.
Hi Andrew. Since I am using GA4, how will I check. Thank you
Great ! Andrew, how can you write dinamic UTM on youtube ads campaigns?
Not sure mate. I’ve never done it with YT
Hello Andrew, got a noob question: I set up a new campaign and the UTM parameter for a dynamic ad. It is currently in review and nothing appeared yet on the Source/Medium section. Is it normal? Does the data appear when the ad starts running and get clicks? We don't have conversions data yet on GA, we are going to use a plugin for it. Maybe the data with UTM needs Enhanced Ecommerce enabled with conversions reporting in order to appear? Hope this message is clear enough. Thank you for the tutorial, really well thought out!
Great value!
One Quest!!! If at the beginning I create one campaign, 1 ad set and 1 ad, then I'll duplicate 3x same ad, just change creatives, or text and then duplicate this ad set x5 for ex. how should look set up then UTM?
Well one more time:
1.Create campaign
2.Create 1 ad set
3.Create ad for this ad set
4.Duplicate ad x3 (just change creatives)
5.And then duplicate x5 ad set, which includes 4 ads. (In these ad sets I'll changing target audiences)
How correctly set up utm in this case? :)
Hi Andrew, what does the (not set) row mean?
where can i find a video that shows how to set this up in GA?
Does the UTM parameters work on an existing post that is being advertised?
Hi Andrew, Question, I use Lead generation ads with facebook forms, can I use this same process to track those ads?
Hi, im wondering for carousel ads, how can i do UTM for the product they user clicked on? there isn't any product name/link option , Thanks
good
What if we insert the link into description field instead of primay text? Will facebook see it as url parameter? Thank you
Thank you for your video. I tried this and after checking in my google analytics its still not picking up the information. I sell women's clothing with different colors and sizes and it keeps retracing back to the original URL with variant since I am directing all traffic to the product page. Is there a way to use UTM paramaters for product pages with multiple variants?
Make sure you have a / at the end of your URL
Will creating that parameter be considered a "significant edit" and reset the learning when I publish it?
How do you check the adset since it's a custom parameter?
Great vid.
So we put the GA code into our domain / website.
But we don't need to create a specific UTM code for the Facebook ads?
We just set it up like you did and it will automatically add it to GA when they land on the page.
Is that correct?
Yep, that’s correct
@@AndrewHubbard1 awesome thanks.
I'm just starting in GA so this will help alot
Thank you!! Will the tracking still work if I use a subdomain for my landing page?
theres no all traffic option under acquisition tab . Im running an FB campaign using UTM parameter but where do i see it on analytics ?
I have everything showing up right but when I go in the google analytics reporting and try to add the "Ad Content" its not showing it as an option. I already have the UTM parameters set up. Any idea on how to fix this?
Hi Andrew, would it be possible to track multiple web pages in one Facebook campaign via Facebook UTM? My goal is to know which specific page the user visited when they clicked on my URL.
This is Gorgeous men!!
Hello, thank you. I have question:
If I using short link ( I use plugin in wordpress, so shortlink is same domain with root url)
UTM still working?
And other question: Do we need setting conversion for Google Analytics to tracking order too?
Thank you
Good question. It depends on the plug-in and whether it passes the UTM’s through or not. Some do, some don’t
You just need the goals set up for your purchase in GA for it to track purchases
@@AndrewHubbard1 thanks you, I will try it
What about the ad set, I can see the source/medium and content, where can I see the ad set name?
I have followed this exactly but for some reason my whole ad content column says (not set) - so strange!! Any ideas?
If places the UTM's in existing ad posts will this reset the engagement on the post? Thank you in advance!
Nope, it doesn't when I add in the UTM's
