“I won’t let you down, Dad. I’ll make you proud!” “I know you will.” I know people aren’t too fond of Herb’s response because it implies he’s putting pressure on Rodney to succeed, but I think he’s already proud of him for trying to help him and he knows he’ll even more proud when Rodney achieves his dream to be an inventor.
Yeah this movie was my childhood never played the game of it but wanted to saw the case for the game when I was a kid would play it on Pc if I find it online

so there's a sort of behind the scenes featurette from the director. in that featurette, Herb's response to "I'll make you proud" is "I already am." not sure why that was changed for the final film.
I understand Lydia’s disapproval of Rodney leaving to Robot City. He’s her kid and she wants to protect him forever. But like all parents, she has to let him go so he can fulfill his dream.❤️
Yeah, I agree with what you're saying, like her disapproval of him going off to Robot City, but sometimes a mother has to understand he's a grown man now, and he's not her little boy anymore, it's time for him to leave home and to go off and to do bigger and better things

Used to watch this movie with my dad all the time as a kid. My dad and I would always have talks like these when it came to following your dreams, him believing in me was just the best feeling in the world. Fast forward today, my old man has unfortunately passed and here I am at 25 starting my own business. This scene hits different today because it’s exactly how my dad used to talk and encourage me no matter what I chose to do in life. Miss him everyday and remember all those talks to keep going when I feel like quitting. Mrs Copperbottom: I told you I'd find him. It's a mother's instinct. Herb: Instinct? He left us a note: I'm leaving, I'll be at the train station. This killed me xD
If there's one scene in this movie that I remember the most, it's this scene. BlueSky really knew how to be relatable in the right ways. Not to mention, it makes great use of its dialogue, with Herb explaining his past to Rodney so as to make sure he doesn't give up like he did. He's a very supportive father, and it's the scene that made me realize just how much I missed this movie. It's a rare movie where I understood what the message was even at my most underdeveloped, yet it rings true just the same to me as an adult... And it was pretty funny when Herb was all like "he literally left the note, dear." Very underrated film.
This was a very touching scene. The way Herb told his story made me think of myself. If I could do it over again, I could try to become a 2D animator and be as good as Don Bluth. Or I could start fresh new, and do better on trying to be a great author without so many obstacles and troubles in life that keep holding me back.
Herb: Rodney, did you know that when i was your age, i wanted to be a musician? i played pretty well too. But, but my dad was worried that i wouldnt be able to make a living. So, i got refitted to be a dishwasher. Now im not complaining, but i've often said to myself, if i could do it over again, i would follow my dream. You've got greatness in you, Rodney. "Did you know that when I was your age I wanted to be a musician?" I just think it's funny how the actor, Stanley Tucci, now plays a musician in Beauty and the Beast...
Stanley Tucci isn't the only one who is in the Live Action Beauty And The Beast but Ewan McGregor who voices Rodney is in the Live Action Beauty And The Beast as Lumiere.
I love how the dad just casually explains to the wife that he didnt up and leave out of nowhere he literally left them a note exactly where he was 🤣🤣 woman moment
This movie is way funnier when coming back to it as an adult. It's now that that line is hilarious to me. Also when the mom thinks that dad himself is gonna leave and she's like "where are you going!?" 😅
There are some dumb moments in this movie, but there’s also a lot of heart & creativity. I love the relationship between Rodney and his father, I love the designs & the way the world works, and I love the message.
ztslovebird You can tell they was very close...Just look at his upbringing his father was very supportive of him. And what they could give him he never complained nor whine about it. I think a lot of people didn’t get that and it was over their heads
I think we can see it from both sides of the coin. Lydia’s understandably worried about her son going to the big city all by himself, since a mother always holds her baby close to her and getting a job can be tough. Not to mention, poor Rodney is completely unaware of the dangers of Ratchet taking over Bigweld Industries and could’ve potentially gotten himself killed trying to stop Ratchet from outmoding robots and turning them into upgrades. But then again, Rodney felt guilty about getting Herb roped into his mistake and being forced by Mr Gunk to pay back his debt for the destruction of the kitchen. I really like how Lydia doesn’t act irrational and despite some initial reluctance, decides to let her son go and achieve his dreams. The scene where Lydia breaks down crying and tearfully waves goodbye to her son, possibly not being able to see him again for a long time is particularly bittersweet. 😊
Probably my favorite scene in the whole movie. Because of how hard it hits me when Herb told Rodney what happened to him earlier when he was Rodney's age, I really love it
One thing I can say about this movie that makes it too great was that Rodneys parents were humble robots. You can tell from when he was younger they couldn't afford good parts for him. But Rodney never complained nor whine about it cause he understood which made him the humble, helpful and brilliant robot he is. Nowadays parents today dont come from humbleness and kindness anymore. They come from dysfunction with mental issues. Cause what happened to them happened from when they was younger with their parents. Either treated the other significant one awful and left or anything and it can trigger down to the next generation. Cause what they saw in their household. And what was amazing is that Rodneys father told him to follow his dreams when his father doubted him when he was younger. Im glad he was man enough to tell his son he wants him to succeed even when he couldn't at his time. To do that you got to have a un-selfish heart to want your kids to aim higher than you have as the parent. Rodneys fathers a great robot man for that. And to even encourage his son when they both watch tv together and the parade? Seeing Bigweld he told him he can be like him one day giving him alot of motivation of that. If I only had a father like him I never disrespect him a day in my life cause he showed me unconditional love and that im never a failure.
Man, the Copperbottoms are some of the best parents in fiction. Especially Herb. As a kid, it never fully registered with me but it's so heartwarming how much Herb cares for his son.
What I love about the movie. His father don't have time to feel sorry for himself. He help his son succeed. My Abusive father want me to fail. He burned my college books because I wouldn't give him money for Drugs. I hop on the bus and left. Never look back
(Rodney arrives at the train station) Ticket Receptionist: Rount trip or one way? Rodney Copperbottom: One way. Lydia Copperbottom: You are somebody. Somebody who's not getting on that train! Rodney Copperbottom: Yes, I am. Lydia Copperbottom: [to Herb] Talk to him! (Herb walks over to the ticket booth.) Herb Copperbottom: One ticket for Robot City. Lydia Copperbottom: Where are you going? Herb Copperbottom: Not me. Him. (Rodney gapes in surprise at his father's approval.) Lydia Copperbottom: But... Herb Copperbottom: Rodney, did you know that when I was your age, I wanted to be a musician? I played pretty well, too, but... but my dad was worried that I wouldn't be able to make a living, so I got refitted to be a dishwasher. Now, I'm not complaining, but I've always said to myself: "If I could do it over it again, I would follow my dream." You've got greatness in you, Rodney. Never doubt it. [hands Rodney the ticket] You go to Robot City. You go meet Bigweld, and you show him your big ideas. And Rodney, never, never give up. (Bots start to board the train. Lydia sighs and sadly walks over to Rodney and hands her son his suitcase. Rodney embraces his mother as she cries on her shoulder.) Conductor: [sobbing] All aboard! Rodney Copperbottom: Ahem. Mom. (Herb gently pulls his wife out of the hug. They watch their son board the train. As the train slowly begins to depart, Rodney leans out of the door and bids his parents farewell.) Rodney Copperbottom: I won't let you down, Dad. I'll make you proud! (Rodney closes the train door just as train leaves the station.) Herb Copperbottom: I know you will. (Rodney's parents watch as their train with their son inside fades from view.)
This movie was underrated. This is my favourite blue sky movie and the one I watch the most. I grew up with some of they’re movies. And they’re last movie nimona made by cry.
I remember watching this movie didn't fully watched at the time and only afterwards was I able to fully watched the entirety from start to finnish. This scene is one that I fully remember since I was only ten. Hope to find a 4K copy someday! Also a tidbit Rodney VA is Ewan McGregor the same actor who played Obi-wan kanobi in Star Wars!
The bond between Rodney and Herb reminds me of the bond between Sophie and Donna in Mamma Mia. Mamma Mia 2 featured young Donna in flashbacks but relating to the current day. Perhaps a 2nd robots movie (if that ever actually happened lol) could feature flashbacks relating to why Herb never followed his dream but Rodney did.
On June 27, 2023, my mother and my brothers went to Europe for two and half weeks and I was sad and sobbing. My stepfather take care me and my brother on June and July.
I told my folks I wanted a different job and I’m so happy I got two new jobs at a restaurant which isn’t so bad and a cashier at a thrift store. My folks supported my dream and destiny and I’m glade they’re proud of me
It’s sad Lydia didn’t like the idea of her son moving away but when the film later on went on, I think she start feeling of liking the idea when she read her son’s letter when Rodney was fixing robots and making friends even while he met Mr Bigweild and unfortunately he rejected Rodney ideas at first until he realised what he said to Rodney was wrong and went to help him out with taking back his company at least Rodney has friends he can relieve on now you know Piper, Fender, Lug and his girlfriend Cappy who’s a beauty too but still as long Rodney has them by his side even if Mr Bigweiled did reject the idea of Rodney views and plans to defeat Ratchet as long as he and his friends stand by together they can accomplish anything together but in this scene Herb did very well at realising his son and teach him to become one of the best Robots in there world indeed thanks to that Rodney accomplishment his dreams at the inventory and made friends and became Mr Bigweild next in line to run the company well better then dirt cheater Ratchet ever could because Ratchet belongs in jail 100% doesn’t he right guys!
Chris Corum Herb was such a great father! Even if he was a dishwasher, he was a humble man along with the mother which made Rodney humble. You gotta think about the cycle...
Chris Corum if you don’t have humble parents you’re not gonna be humble. It goes in cycles, I mean that’s if you learn from what’s right and what’s wrong of treating people on your own? Then that’s a plus, you didn’t begin being like ya parents after all 💯
WOW RODNEYS DAD SOUNDED REALLY SUPPORTIVE WHEN HE GAVE RODNEY THAT PEP TALK, BUT I FEEL REALLY SORRY FOR LYDIA BECAUSE SHE DID NOT WANT RODNEY TO LEAVE TO ROBOT CITY, IT MUST HAVE BEEN REALLY HARD SEEING HIM GO LIKE THAT
Manny Villar Read my comment...Rodney’s upbringing was amazing. His father was definitely his inspiration, I love the fact that he watched Bigweld show with him. He’s a great father even if he was a dishwasher
The scene later where Rodney calls his parents is especially heartbreaking for me, especially when Fender tells us about Herb's condition. "His father's got one foot in the junkyard, and if they can't find new parts for him, he's only got a few miles left." At the time this movie came out I didn't quite get what he meant by 'one foot in the junkyard'. I was only...what 6 or 7? I literally thought one of his feet was in a junkyard somewhere. But I did understand the second part. But the impact of it didn't hit me until I was 10 when my dad passed away. Now I understand the worry and the sadness that Rodney felt. Being on edge after that first letter, wondering if the next one was going to tell him that Herb passed on, wondering if that phone call was going to be the last time he would speak to his father
I’m sorry to hear that man, my condolences. Yea imagine, that was Rodney’s backbone and needs him. This movie is deep when it comes to Rodney’s parents. They were humble robots 💯
And from the sound of his voice box, it sounds like he’s around middle age like 40s or 50s. So basically had it not been Rodney and Bigweld’s intervention in Ratchet and Madame Gasket’s operation of capturing and annihilating outmodes to break them down into parts to create upgrades and their planned genocide on the entire outmode race by use of the Super Sweepers, Herb would have basically “died” so soon in his middle age.
Robot City!? You're just a kid! No he's not! He's like 18 years old or something, so he's a full grown adult! Mothers worry too much sometimes don't they lol!
18 is a kid. Even if they are legally adults they're still kids. And imagining an 18 y/o moving to NYC or something seems terrifying for a mom I'm sure.

You're coming home right now.
I grew up with this movie. this scene and the line "see a need fill a need" inspire me so much
There are some dumb moments in this movie, but there’s also a lot of heart & creativity. I love the relationship between Rodney and his father, I love the designs & the way the world works, and I love the message.
ztslovebird You can tell they was very close...Just look at his upbringing his father was very supportive of him. And what they could give him he never complained nor whine about it. I think a lot of people didn’t get that and it was over their heads
ztslovebird even a touch of originality, right?
It deserves way more respect than it's due. It was great.
Jesus coming back to this scene at 25 years old now I've noticed that the personalities of Rodney's parents almost mirror mine 😅

Probably my favorite scene in the whole movie. Because of how hard it hits me when Herb told Rodney what happened to him earlier when he was Rodney's age, I really love it
I leave for college today, this is my go to video.
How’s it going so far
This movie was my childhood! And now this scene resonates so much
It is so touching! ❤️❤️😢😢
I love this movie❤

Man, the Copperbottoms are some of the best parents in fiction. Especially Herb. As a kid, it never fully registered with me but it's so heartwarming how much Herb cares for his son.
Stanley Tucci did really well with the dad speech. Brings me to wish I could hear my dad say that. I never got to.
Rodney: "I'm gonna get a job, and I'm gonna help Dad pay back Mr Gunk."
This is such an inspirational scene. Thank you so much for sharing this video.
Stanley Tucci has a job well done doing the voice of Herb Copperbottom. 0:57 1:35 Awesome role.

@Sentinel Magnus its Ewan actually
He’s voiced by Ewan Mcgregor, and this is also the year Revenge of the Sith was in theaters.
What I love about the movie.

Ticket Receptionist: Rount trip or one way?
Rodney Copperbottom: One way.
(Rodney's parents arrive and his mother sighs with relief)
Lydia Copperbottom: There you are!
I told you I'd find him!
It's a mother's instinct.
Herb Copperbottom: "Instinct"?
He left us a note!
"I'm leaving. I'll be at the train station."
Lydia Copperbottom: Never mind.
Pick up that suitcase.
You're coming home right now.
Rodney Copperbottom: No, Mom.
I have to do this.
I'm going to Robot City tonight.
I'm gonna get a job and I'm gonna help Dad pay back Mr. Gunk.
Lydia Copperbottom: [to Herb] Talk to him!
Herb Copperbottom: Uh... Ro--
Lydia Copperbottom: Robot City?! You're just a kid!
Rodney Copperbottom: I'm never gonna be someone here.
I wanna be an inventor.
I wanna meet Bigweld.
I wanna BE somebody!
Lydia Copperbottom: You are somebody.
Somebody who's not getting on that train!
Rodney Copperbottom: Yes, I am.
Lydia Copperbottom: [to Herb] Talk to him!
(Herb walks over to the ticket booth.)
Herb Copperbottom: One ticket for Robot City.
Lydia Copperbottom: Where are you going?
Herb Copperbottom: Not me. Him.
(Rodney gapes in surprise at his father's approval.)
Lydia Copperbottom: But...
Herb Copperbottom: Rodney, did you know that when I was your age, I wanted to be a musician?
I played pretty well, too, but... but my dad was worried that I wouldn't be able to make a living, so I got refitted to be a dishwasher.
Now, I'm not complaining, but I've always said to myself: "If I could do it over it again, I would follow my dream."
You've got greatness in you, Rodney. Never doubt it.
[hands Rodney the ticket]
You go to Robot City.
You go meet Bigweld, and you show him your big ideas.
And Rodney, never, never give up.
(Bots start to board the train.
Lydia sighs and sadly walks over to Rodney and hands her son his suitcase.
Rodney embraces his mother as she cries on her shoulder.)
Conductor: [sobbing] All aboard!
Rodney Copperbottom: Ahem. Mom.
(Herb gently pulls his wife out of the hug.
They watch their son board the train.
As the train slowly begins to depart, Rodney leans out of the door and bids his parents farewell.)
Rodney Copperbottom: I won't let you down, Dad. I'll make you proud!
(Rodney closes the train door just as train leaves the station.)
Herb Copperbottom: I know you will.
(Rodney's parents watch as their train with their son inside fades from view.)
I'll replicate this scene for my very own dream that I follow...
This movie was underrated. This is my favourite blue sky movie and the one I watch the most. I grew up with some of they’re movies. And they’re last movie nimona made by cry.
When Rodney and his mom hug I always cry with joy!

On June 27, 2023, I was sobbing because my mother and my brothers are going to Poland for two weeks. 🥺
Poppy Ryder I wish it could happen but it never will 😔💯

I like this scene as well the ending where herb got to full his dream.
Chris Corum Herb was such a great father! Even if he was a dishwasher, he was a humble man along with the mother which made Rodney humble. You gotta think about the cycle...
@@91Definite indeed
Chris Corum if you don’t have humble parents you’re not gonna be humble. It goes in cycles, I mean that’s if you learn from what’s right and what’s wrong of treating people on your own? Then that’s a plus, you didn’t begin being like ya parents after all 💯

You said this is a herltfillt scene but it really is
