I found it interesting he mentioned racism wasn’t a thing in the 90s in the Eastern suburbs of Sydney. That it was only noticeable moving to the Western suburbs.
To those who don’t know, the eastern suburbs of Sydney is predominantly ‘white’ and affluent. At his time when there was a lot less immigration (during the 90s). So living in a white area he experience little to no racism, as he said.
The Western suburbs where he moved, is a much lower socioeconomic area filled with migrants. This where he did experience racism.
Over the decades certain areas/suburbs of Western Sydney have turned to ethnic enclaves not welcoming of others. It is the hotspot of criminality and gangland wars.
The fact he moved to a lower socioeconomic area full of racial tensions is not reflective of Australia. It is reflective of poverty, multiculturalism and how it leads to tribalism. The Western suburbs of Sydney is not Australia !
I find it piss poor he leans on this crutch as Australian Anglos are possibly the least racist people, particularly throughout his period of growing up.. as he attests.
People that view the world through race can always attribute any slight as racism. Is it true ? Yes because of perspective.
If I experience an instance of racism overseas do I slight the whole nation ? No.
Great player but it’s not cool turning slights on a nation that gave him such an opportunity. Claiming we can do better as selectors is extremely egotistical as by default he is attributing his placement within the team as being a force majeure so great it conquered the so-called oppression he wishes to highlight. Bit of a contradiction
Just let the bat talk Usi. There’s no racism in the Anglo camp willing you on. Get over it or as Morgan Freeman said “ if you want to end racism stop talking about it “

It doesn’t matter what your race, if you live in a poorer area (anywhere in the world) you experience hardships which are then vexed on to others. Viewing the world through ones ‘lived experience’ is not indicative of the whole. Migrants moving West seeing Anglos living in and around them, feeling an outsider then deride the collective. It’s human nature. At the same time forgiving your own misbehaviours. I find it laughable to excuse the organised gangland wars of the Vietnamese and Lebanese as something as a ‘teething’ cultural ‘experience’. Imagine if you lived in the area in relative peace to then be swamped by criminal enclaves. I don’t live in the area but I would too look at these people with disdain. Calling them names isn’t so bad relative to a drive by murder !
I take umbrage with migrants who know little other than living in poor western Sydney then extrapolating to the vast majority of Australians with the simple label of ‘racism’. It’s poverty vexation.
One viewpoint never taken in to consideration is the culture of ‘banter’. Australians ribbing Usi as ‘curry muncher’ may be seen as a baptism by fire. It’s how English and Australians talk to each other, so by calling him names isn’t a big deal. It’s actually welcoming. Ignoring him and not letting him play would be real racism. Many non Brits/Anglos don’t get it’s a way of making friends, claiming racism. To not accept it only leads to further ribbing. Taking it shows you’re not soft.
Kids always get teased. For eg it’s ok if ‘wogs’ can call Aussies ‘skips’ but in reverse it’s have a cry and talk about it on tv when you’re a mature adult worshiped by the majority. Gets on my goat! Get over it and stop being a victim. As said if there was racism he wouldn’t be on the team !

Some people may not believe you, it takes some balls to be out in the open and talk about it, racism does exist, there is all kinds of racism in Pakistan they have ethnic racism sectarian racism so its not just white people hating others one could have the worst experience within their own country, perfect example of fawad alam and asad shafiq, and Sarfraz Ahmed because of their urdu speaking family background their carriers have been ruined, in inzimam time certain sects players couldn’t even get a chance, perfect example is misbah ul haq, i am so happy to see usmans return what a slap on Ian chapells and few others faces who have hatted him almost lost 5 years of his career
