It's several years later but the worst hit counties are still recovering. I assume this is the city of Cedar Rapids but I live in Marshall, the other worst hit, where the small city in its center was hit by an EF3 tornado, also, a year before the historic derecho 😮

80 mph sideways wind. It was a terrible storm and when it was over we lost thousands of trees shrubs, tree limbs. We had a tree go through my bedroom ceiling.

We've been fortunate to not have experienced a bad one that has caused damage to our community. I see these storms on the news almost daily somewhere on our planet and most people I know have been through a bad storm. 3-4 years ago happened something similar to my house. I was on my terrace outside trying to save my plants. It seemed very much like a tornado was forming few meters front of my house. It could only shout :"My Lord, please remember that there is a servant of Yours in this house". In a split moment everything changed direction and I can say I lived a miracle. Even those flowers are a miracle watching a stronger tree breaking into pieces.
You need a medal sir.. not for filming the storm while being in it..but for wiping that water spot of the lens 😂😂it was getting on my nerves couldn't see.. he understood the assignment 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

I absolutely am terrified of these storms, as memory serves there were 3 that came to mind, don't recall the exact years, the first one was around 2000-2001, I'd just moved from Atlanta, GA to be close to my husband's family, in Des Moines, Iowa. I'd just arrived home from my job at Merle Hay Mall, which was just across the street, had walked into my apartment when it hit, the next time my son was driving me to his apartment downtown, there was zero visibility, but he kept going, until I made him pull over, the third time I had just crossed over East University and S.E.14th st heading north. Could not see a blasted thing, luckily about a block or so further there was a closed gas station, with no gas pumps, but there was a cover there I sat there until it passed. I hate them because there is no real warning, they come suddenly, and just as suddenly end. What surprises me is that people continue to drive in them as if it's nothing.
That tree though..it may have moved, but it was rooted and grounded. I want to be like that tree with the Lord, so rooted and grounded in Him and the Word!

We didn’t know what a derecho was until that day. Inland hurricane. Trees snapped, semi trucks overturned, and waves on the lake crashing ashore with a power and size we had never seen. All was quiet beforehand, but hearing weather warnings about damage 15-18 minutes west of the vet clinic we were visiting, we had just enough time to pack up the cat and drive home at up to 95 mph, just getting into the garage before the storm hit with rain and shrieking, constant straight winds. We watched trees bending to the ground and falling.
That was one crazy gust! But it would have been nice if you could have taken more than just 30 seconds of video. I heard the storm lasted 30 to 50 minutes in most places.

I don’t understand people, when we got hit, I brought EVERYTHING into the house for peace of mind, my patio kit was in the living room, my bbq in the kitchen, the mailbox on the table. I put my car into the garage and locked and chained that, I didn’t leave ANYTHING outside and I had no damage other than some roof tiles gone

I don’t understand people, when we got hit, I brought EVERYTHING into the house for peace of mind, my patio kit was in the living room, my bbq in the kitchen, the mailbox on the table. I put my car into the garage and locked and chained that, I didn’t leave ANYTHING outside and I had no damage other than some roof tiles gone
Because you have sense. I also guessing there were several forecasts that how big the wind will be. People simply dont take nature serious.... yet derecho was powerful.
