- In January of 2020, I decided to quit social media. Instagram specifically as that's what I used daily. I learned a ton about myself over the past year with this experiment. In this video, I want to share the 3 main drawbacks and 3 main benefits I experienced from quitting social media for a full year.
Great video! I'm planning to quit Facebook for a whole month starting March 1st. It's just grown old having to see practically nothing but political posts, dumb memes, and a bunch of gossip!

I’m was addicted to Instagram. So bad that I had to take a pledge twice to not to use it which I wasn’t able to keep up. After 3 weeks of not using Instagram I again went back on the app and slowly the algorithm got on to me, too much memes too much political drama and too much picture perfect lives of people who haven’t had a conversation in years (like what’s the whole point)in my feed really made me sick to the core. I felt myself getting drained by being constantly being bombarded about what’s happening to others to the point my mind felt cluttered and very very distracted. So I deleted the app yesterday, I even deleted my Facebook, twitter and linked in account and I don’t have the same unbearable pull as before because now I’m happy and content with myself knowing that my real friend are still and always will be accessible to me offline. Ah, Finally peace ☮️
Thank you so much for sharing. I think many people struggle with this as well. What you described is exactly why I took a year off. It helped immensely.
I now occasionally open the app but maybe every few days and don’t have the same addicted tendencies. It’s feels much better.
Really enjoyed this video - liked hearing your more in-depth authentic thoughts and wonderings. You didn’t feel inauthentic before but in this video you felt extra authentic to the version of you I’ve talked to outside of DM’s! Probably bc of how you dug into some scary or complicated topics about your insecurities , regrets etc… :)

I have an issue that stops me from unfollowing although i really want to and some people i hate seeing their content. But Im scared ppl will hate me or they will unfollow back and quite awkward in case I do see them again in the future.. Do you have any advice?
That’s the beauty of unfollowing everyone and littering going to ZERO for a month. Then no one’s feelings are hurt because you’re not singling everyone out.
Chances are more of those people come tell you how much they want to do the same thing and admire you for having the courage to do it.
About not sharing photos and authenticity, just came to my mind Christopher Anderson sinking boat in Haiti storie.
