  • Humanism refers to an intellectual movement that gravitates towards the classical ages, namely Ancient Greece and Rome, and is fed by these sources, against the thought system of the Middle Ages, which was predominantly religious and shaped under the pressure of the church. Humanist thinkers and artists argued that an education based on the sources and methods of the classical world should come to the fore. If we state that the Renaissance means 'rebirth', we can better understand why humanism, which expresses the return to classical thought, was the most fundamental element of this period. Before the 1400s, which we define as the age of the Renaissance, three Italian poets Dante Alighieri (1265-1321 CE), Petrarch, and Giovanni Boccacio (1313-1375) began to reveal the basic dynamics of humanist thought in their works. Although the humanist movement of thought, which describes a new type of human being, has made its effects felt in many fields from science to literature, from poetry to history, architects and sculptors inspired by the classical world have produced the most important works that fascinate everyone even today.
