I can’t tell if it’s just me, but every time I’ve used the WS2 on any mic I’ve owned, I’ve felt it colored the sound in a very unflattering way. Most of all, everything sounds more sibilant with it on compared to it off. Even here, the Podmic sounds more harsh with the WS2 compared to off. But maybe I’ve tricked myself.
It does alter the sound in some way. Personally, I thought it sounded a little more dull or veiled. In contrast, I thought the WS14 accentuated the sound, but I could be hearing things that aren't there.
That's terrific! I think something as simple as changing the colors breathes new life into using the PodMic. RODE really knows how to get the most out of their products. I admire them for their ability to reinvent their products and accessories. I hope you enjoy the new windscreens! Thanks for commenting!
Hey, Hank! Can't believe I missed this video. Been looking forward to Rode selling this separately. Quick question! Does it fit the ZDM-1 snugly enough? Might get it for aesthetics. Hahaha!
So sorry for the delayed response. I've been busy with a new short film I'm working on. While the new WS14 fits the ZDM-1 on the grill, the plastic base doesn't fit the body of the microphone at all. It stays on securely but looks ridiculous with a 1/2" gap all around the body of the mic. The WS2 fits but has that same "pillow" look as it does on the PodMic. LOL! Always a pleasure to get a comment from you my friend.
@@FreePodcastTools no worries, Hank! Thanks for testing it out. I suppose I shall be keeping the big-ass SM7B windscreen for now. It still works nicely, albeit, a bit too massive. Hahaha! Looking forward to that short film if you decided to show it on the UA-camz!
@@FreePodcastTools got two ordered, a black and white version. I seen someone mod their mic, they literally drilled out the cap for the screw and placed a windscreen inside the metal frame. It sounds great but I’m just going to wait for my shipment 😊
@@haies09 that's an aggressive mod that person did. I agree with your take on waiting for the windscreen to arrive. I think RODE has once again found an intelligent way to get us to open our wallets. LOL!
I personally wouldn't even buy the PodMic if I had to cover it up with the WS2. The mic looks odd to me hidden under it. It's just my personal preference.
Damn, I'm watching this video after buying the WS14 for $25 and I have to say, I am really disappointed that I paid that much for a silicone product. I first thought it was metal or at least hard plastic, but to see it's soft silicone is actually really disappointing.
I absolutely agree that the marketing made it seem like it was an extension of the body's build quality. I was thoroughly surprised that they went the direction they went. The people I watched prior to buying the windscreen never mentioned the build quality. Probably costs them a few bucks to make if that.
@@FreePodcastTools Yeah I was pretty shocked. It's still a good pop filter but I was expecting more for almost $30. This would have been a great product for around $10-$15.
@@anejpetacdesign I wish they packaged a couple of them together for $25. That way we can switch up colors when we want to. Get your two favorite colors for that price would make it worthwhile.

I ordered the red and purple from Amazon earlier today. Expecting tomorrow. I feel like a kid waiting for Santa to come.

Thank you brother; you’ve helped me make my decision
Happy to hear this video was helpful! Thank you for the kind comment.
@@FreePodcastTools of course bro! Ironically Amazon delivered my WS14 earlier, I went for the orange ☺️.
@@andregomes1590 awesome color choice! RODE gets it and that's why they're winning.
I ordered one in every color!
Do you have a Rode Procaster? I'd like to see how the WS14 looks on the Procaster.
I got rid of my Procaster a while back. Now you have me curious on fit and whether it would change the sound a bit.
@@FreePodcastTools I like the sound of the Procaster better. It would be great if the WS14 fit well.
@@rickonmic it's a very underrated microphone. Extremely well built too. Now I wish I had it back. LOL!
@@FreePodcastTools lol! I let go of the Podmic, but I kept the Procaster.
@@rickonmic I think you made the right choice. :)

@@itscarlosreally you are the best! I will definitely release it on UA-cam. There's a microphone in there somewhere underneath all that foam. LOL!
I feel like the ws2 reduce the quality of my podmic. I no longer use it
It is a very thick windscreen so I could easily see it impacting the actual sound of the microphone. I really like the new windscreens much better.
I will try the new one
@@mahlanerannius6733 let me know how you like it when you try it.
Still waiting for mine to ship 😊
What color are you getting? They need to get that thing shipped ASAP. I hate waiting for stuff.

Thanks for the test. Exactly what I’ve been looking for. But your priorities are kinda weird…why would you choose style over sound quality with a mic?

Shout out to Tom and Jerry. 🐭 🐈⬛ I sure do miss ultra-violent children’s cartoons.
I miss GI Joe with thousands of tracer fire rounds missing wildly.
Was hoping this was a metal replacement - that the original was somehow removable- bummer. It also makes the mic bigger. No thanks RØDE.
I don't blame you at all. It's a huge letdown to find out it's just cheap plastic and foam.
