Best Shure MV7 Alternative For Streaming and Podcasting
BUY THE MOVO UM6 XLR & USB MICROPHONE: www.movophoto.com/products/dynamic-xlr-microphone?sca_ref=7017988.MsG4szUHVoFjk
*affiliate link*
If you're looking for a Shure MV7+ alternative the MOVO UM6 just might be what you're after. The MOVO UM6 has a GainCast mic booster built-in that provides 25dB of clean gain. With no complicated software to install, MOVO's UM6 has all of its controls directly on the microphone.
One of the main drawbacks to other XLR & USB microphones I've reviewed is the inability to adjust gain when in USB mode (aside from booster the gain on your computer). The MOVO UM6 fixes that issue with the onboard volume slider.
I found the sound to be pretty solid although, like most microphones, it's not going to blow you away. There does seem to be a discrepancy between the sound profile in USB mode vs. in XLR mode. I believe that it could have something to do with the sample rate on some audio interfaces being much lower than the available sample rate of the UM6 in USB mode (192 kHz vs. the typical 48 kHz on most audio interfaces). I'll let you decide what you think about the audio. Despite the sound quality I prefer using the UM6 microphone with and audio interface.
The provided accessories add another great benefit. Besides the mic you get a magnetic windscreen, XLR cable, USB-C to USB-C cable, and a USB-C to USB-A cable.
NOTE: There are reports of difficulty engaging the touch mute button in some reviews I've read online. Be sure to read, and watch, multiple reviews to get other perspectives on the microphone as I had a very positive experience with the microphone I was sent.

      @@FreePodcastTools I appreciate your videos! I am actually kicking myself and feeling a little guilty. I had a Rode Caster Video in my B&H wish list since before they released it. Your rumor video might have been the fist time I learned of the device. I finally pulled the trigger on the thing. Then came over here to check out some of the features, then I noticed your affiliate link. Ugh, I feel bad being it was such a big ticket item. But for whatever pennies it's worth, the device came with only one cable so I picked one up through your link. I will probably pick more up later but I am on a spending hiatus for now. LOL! Speaking of those cables, it might be a future video idea. The Rode cables are nice having the colors for identify things and they seem pretty durable. The however don't seem to be the fastest for the price. No need to answer here but I thought it might make a good future video and you could throw in a few more budget friendly cables with . . . dare I say . . . affiliate links. Cheers.

      Are both of those cameras software dependent? Any USB webcam will connect to the RODECaster video but there's no way to dig into the settings via the RODECaster Video. I don't have a connection at either company that I know of or else I'd see if they'd send me one to test.

      OBSBOT says that any of their UVC compliant devices will work with the RODECaster Video but you don't get access to special (software enable) features. Elgato said the Facecam will work out of the box but again you won't have access to the features that are activated through their proprietary software. I hope that helps.

      It's a strange oversight. I reached out to them directly and suggested that they include a physical mute button in future products. Some of the other decisions are a miss which is disappointing as the device is otherwise excellent! Thanks for the comment.

I also show how to hack the audio for left and right 1/4" or 3.5mm connection... I am writing you from my other channel so I avoid any conflict of interest. I appreciate your thoughts and your comment back. The plus is the audio is lightly warm, it sounds better than most. @@FreePodcastTools thank you. I can see why companies leave obvious flaws. If they didn't why would anyone consider spending more on their higher end products? I personally think it is purposeful to give you a reason to spend on something else down the line... Oh look we fixed it and they will purposely leave an issue again. Businesses are often tied to their shareholders. If Presonus literally went all out they would get a huge profit gain but they would have trouble keeping that and could lose money after the hype dies. My theory is that they want to keep sales purposely at a study state to show growth so they can maintain at a certain rate. It makes sense from a business perspective, not self profit was but to keep shareholders happy

    Hello Hank! Great videos on the Rodecaster Video. My big question is can this replace a Rodecaster Duo and ATEM Mini Pro ISO? I assume you are still getting used to the device so maybe I should save this question for the future. But, I have an ATEM Mini Pro and a Rodecaster Duo. The audio on the ATEM isn't the best but I run the audio through it in order to sync my audio. I am thinking of selling those off which would make the Rodecaster Video more affordable. I would miss those sliders for controlling audio but maybe I could do that with a Stream Deck Plus. Again, maybe you haven't had enough time with this to make an accurate assessment but off the cuff, what do you think? My other option is to pick up a used ATEM Mini Pro ISO, since I expect to see a lot of those hit the market soon. Right now my big need/want is to recording multiple cameras at the same time (for later editing) and that wasn't something that I knew that I would need when I picked up my original ATEM Mini Pro.

    • @FreePodcastTools
      @FreePodcastTools 24 дні тому

      I had another conversation with a friend of the channel and he asked me about the Duo's future if someone was doing a lot of video. Honestly, SO FAR, I can't think of a real reason to keep the Duo. You can add sounds to the scenes buttons so that's not an issue. You get multitrack still and I am in love with the audio quality on my videos (even though it should be the same thing as the Duo it seems like it sound even cleaner). I guess the only thing I can really think of as a detriment SO FAR is the lack of a physical mute feature. I haven't been able to figure out a workaround yet. In my limited time with the unit I would take it over pairing the ATEM ISO and the DUO. It has far exceeded my expectations. I'm still figuring out the audio frame delay setting. Otherwise my videos are record and drop in Davinci and go. No more importing audio separately and all that. It's an incredible device. Barring in major production quality issues, etc I think this thing is going to take off like a rocket ship and leave some other options in the dust.

    • @portersblackboard
      @portersblackboard 23 дні тому

      @@FreePodcastTools I think I need to sit back and let the hype wear off before making any decisions. If I didn't have the Duo, the Video would be exactly what I needed. The Duo felt like over kill for me when I got it. I think I will sit back and see if anything interesting happens on Black Friday with the Rodecaster Video the ATEM Mini Pro ISO. And who knows, maybe ATEM will bump up their audio game between now and the end of the year.

    • @Guillemod

      @@portersblackboardI think BMD needs to release an update of the ATEM Mini at some point. Maybe (probably?) next year. It’s about time. But I think it’s safe to assume that not this year at this point. They usually reveal new products around big events. Stream Deck doesn’t work with Rode products and don’t expect that change at some point. Not a great collaboration background between brands. Mostly opposite. So, yeh, Watch videos and learn the limitations of this product, thinking out of hype how is going to help you to improve. I think it’s a great product but it depends on your needs. Honestly, I do think that the Rodecaster Video is exactly what I want at this point. Or maybe I will do what I did when they came out with the Elgato Prompter. I considered getting one for a long time, but in the end I just reworked what I already had into an near identical rig. The only thing that is is missing is the software (which I admit is a key component). I guess that is all part of the fun of research. Putting it all together.

      @@portersblackboard you are a smart, smart person. That is exactly the right attitude to have. Don't get caught up in the hype of "gotta get it now". I wish I had your restraint. :) I am going to make a video about little nitpicks I have about the device. Who knows, maybe one of those things is a deal breaker to someone out there. Thank you for taking the time to watch these videos and for all the great comments you post. I look forward to hearing about what you end up going with when the time comes.

    Dear Hank, I really appreciate your videos and the way you present them. I also know how much work is sometimes involved. Now, I have watched a few videos about the Rodecaster Video. Hmm... I was able to find out the following for myself. Here are my ten points of criticism to Rode and why, despite all its advantages such as direct recording on SSD etc., I won't be buying it. Oh yes, some of them can and will certainly be fixed by a software update in the near future. Nevertheless, here are my points: 1. We are in the year 2024 - Why is the song "In The Year 2525" now in my head? - there's no 4k support only full HD with 60 frames. Normally Rode products will remain on the market for many years and why is no 4k support? This can certainly not be added later, as the hardware is not capable of it. Yes, I know ISO recording in 4k is not so easy, but a certain 4k option or certain functions can be done in 4k like simple 4k recording or simple 4k streaming etc. I don't expect any 4k options, from what I've seen so far. This for a product that was released in Q3 2024. Maybe in the future in the year 2525? 2. A picture-in-picture where one can be seen in a circle. At the moment there only rectangles for pic-in-pic are possible. This can certainly be delivered via SW update at some point. Apparently not possible at the moment. 3. Only the "program" signal delivered via USB(-C). I expected, or want and need each individual picture signal should be delivered via USB(-C). Possible a hw limitation? 4. Audio delay is not individually adjustable per channel. There is only for all channels. 5. ISO recording 33MBit/s - seems to be very compressed. It seems no settings to adjust it. 6. Full network control of the Rodecaster Video is currently not possible. If you use "Bitfocus Companion" as one example. 7. XML file for the recording - An XML file should be generated in ISO recording in which the cuts / transitions timestamps etc. are stored for post production. 8. No audio recording settings are stored in the scenes. 9. SSD access directly to the RodeCaster Video from PC/MAC. I have to remove the card from the Rodecaster Video and put it into my card reader. 10. Lack of web cam support. The web cam functionality seems not working. Seems are problem with the first sw releases. As I said, some things will be delivered and improved with a software update, but there are a few things that the BlackMagic Atem Series can deliver or do better or do other. Yes, some things not. But for me, as a current Atem Mini user there is actual no reason for a change at the moment. I have to be realistic, even with the price. I hope I was able to stimulate your imagination with my points. Keep up the good work. All the best. Servus from Bavaria

    Hey there, I am trying to track down something you did a few weeks ago on a not yet released piece of gear from a popular brand . . . did that get taken down? I notice tomorrow a number of channels will be talking about it tomorrow.

      I got some new information immediately following that video release and I took it down as the information would not have aged well. You can tune into my channel for lots of videos on the RODECaster Video starting today. I will have tons of content about the device.

      @@FreePodcastTools I haven't checked out your new video yet, but I see the new video is there. And sorry for the cryptic comment, I worried that Rode made you pull down the video. I was really curious if they had the right to do something like that. But all I have to say, is Darn!! I don't need to buy new gear but I am sure if the price is right that I will be lining up to get one of them.

      Hi. I honestly don't know if I'd use either for music applications. I'd consider the RODECaster Pro 2 or RODECaster Duo before each of these devices. Actually, I might suggest a handheld digital recorder like the Zoom H1 XLR or H6essential over the podcast type devices.

      There were a few glaring errors that I immediately found out were incorrect so I pulled it down as it would not have aged well at all. I'm adding accurate videos about the device to the channel currently.
