RODE DS2 Mic Stand - 30 Days Later
Вставка
- Опубліковано 3 жов 2024
- I've used a boom arm mic for over a decade, but I gave a real 30-day run at trying Rode's new DS2 Desktop Mic Studio Arm to see if I could convert, and...well, there are a few things I liked, and a couple I didn't.

A big thank you to RODE for sending me the DS2 to review on the channel ahead of time!

I took a cloth placemat, fitted it to the shape of the base, and attached it. No more table noise. I use it in my travel voiceover bag. It comes apart and is easily portable. Outstanding, high-quality product!
This is wild. I was looking for reviews on this mic stand and came across your video. When you started speaking, I immediately thought "Oh my god this is the Pokemon guy!" My husband watches your videos on our big screen tv so I hear bits and pieces of it lol
Could you connect a ball head to the DS2 mount and then your mic to the ball head?
They make boom arms that positions the mic and bar below you, rather than covering your face.
This would be best paired with a Triade Orbit.
The obvious-once-you've-seen-it rotating gizmo attached to Earthwork's mics.
Nice on Pat! I think I'm gonna stick to my boom arm for now haha!
Great video! Does a mic arm / stand exist with an articulating head or ball mount ending?
Didn’t know this existed! Thanks for the review
So I bought this, and it was picking up various sounds from the table, even though Rode advertised it that it doesn’t. It’s a shame you didn’t cover that in this video.
I've found that all desktop stands pickup noises from my table, compared to a boom arm. The solution was to stop banging my table while recording.

Helpful video, Pat. Thank you!
Great video! Could one attach a ball head to fix these issues?
90$ for a mic stand of this quality, unique design and made in Australia is very much alright, I think. Great review, thanks!
Boom arms save desk space. Plus a boom arm can reach out futher.
Thanks for the video Pat. I always trust your opinions with gear and tech. Here's another vote for ball heads too!
Sounds like you've had an extensive trial with the Road DS2 desktop microphone stand! Your detailed review covers all the crucial aspects, from its design and functionality to its pros and cons. Thanks for sharing this thorough analysis!
Too expensive imo
It amazes me that they don't send some of these products out before they release them to people who actually use them so they know things to avoid. Lol. I'm sure making that hole bigger may change the structural integrity of the design but the fact nobody thought about that XLR fitting is funny. Lol.
you should check the ulanzi LS26U
SwitchPod XLR incoming? ;)
I like how you think 😊
Just use the Rode Podmic usb; it has (a kind of) ball head built in!
so i decided tonight to do a podcast however i used squadcast wont use my email so im over it i tried to help you out
I know it's a Rode Product, but how does it fare with the PodMic... it's such a heavy mic - I struggle with it on boom arms - this looks like a good solution [if it's on sale or used]
I tested it with the pod mic (you can see a few shots with it in the video) and it holds up well. The Shure you see here is even heavier.
For your ball joint get a orbit and it solves that.
90$??? 😂😂😂
So why can't you use an arm in the exact same way? At least, that how I use my arm, so that the mic isn't in my face, booming from the bottom. Also, clamp the boom warm where you so proudly put the mic stand instead of next to you. Who does that?
You need to clean your desk for a mic arm (specially the LP arms that are so trending now and I think it’s the worst option), this one you can use it only when you need to record and then even put in in a drawer.
There are cheaper alternatives.
For sure. Less quality but definitely able to work with smaller USB mics
@@patflynn I found one at guitar center that was well made and weighted just like Rodes. It was only $45. The thing it didn't have is the articulation that the Rodes has, but it does the job.
1st comment ❤
Release date is July 21 2025 😢. Wow
Rode is still behind the times. They still haven’t made the kind that Joe Rogan uses which has gotten very popular but way too expensive for most people. The low profile style.
Elgato make a great low profile arm. And it has a ball head!
Hahahah a Chinese company will make a copy much better for $30, rode just messed up this opportunity, they really don't know about how to sell stuff 😅😅😅😅
