Hi there. Wondering what the importance of having Teflon tape on the foot valve is? If the whole thing is submerged in water, how can it suck any air? Maybe I’m missing something. Any help would be appreciated
I assume you are talking about an electric pump. They are usually controlled by a pressure switch on the discharge side. It it is turning on even though no water is drawn, the pressure is being lost somewhere. Yes, it could be leaking through the pump back down the intake pipe and out the foot valve - but only if you don't have a check valve installed near the pump. If you have a long intake line, a check valve (one-way valve) is a good practice. Any other leak in your system will also cause the pump to cycle. This could be on the intake side or the discharge side.
I'm glad you put the teflon on the right way : )
This was such an educational video. Thank you.

MacGyver lives. Thanks. It's the yearly bane of my existence - but I might just give this method a try.
I realize I am kinda off topic but does anyone know of a good website to stream newly released series online?
@Merrick Julius try flixzone. Just search on google for it :)
@Albert Gannon yea, I've been watching on FlixZone for since march myself :)
@Albert Gannon thanks, I went there and it seems to work =) I appreciate it!
@Merrick Julius no problem =)
Question? If your your pump turns off and on continuously would that mean your foot valve is bad??

What can I do with my foot valve screen? It just seems that too much seaweed and other debris or getting through and clogging up my sprinkler?
mesh sock available from Home Depot or Rona
What do you mean “the handle starts to rise”?
He has a manual, not electric pump. You can see it in his other video.
Pink teflon is better. More expensive but better.
