Trick of Trade: Inflating the Esophageal Balloon of a Blakemore/Minnesota Tube without a Manometer

- Don't have a fancy manometer to measure the pressure of the esophageal ballon of an esophageal tamponade device? You can use a sphygmomanometer (manual blood pressure instrument), 50 cc syringe, and 3-way stopcock. Trick and video by Drs. Ivan Ivanov, Aidan O’Malley, Geoff Leucker, and David Misch.
Note: The trick was developed with an Sengstaken-Blakemore tube, which requires 250 cc for the gastric ballooon; however, this video shows a Minnesota tube, which was only inflated to 250 cc, instead of the goal of 450-500 cc.
