(Like does she have a sleeping baby or roommates who have opposite schedules? Lol Idk just random things that came to mind first) Definitely not a bad thing and am not asking to insult her, just curious if that’s her norm. Her video was extremely relaxing because of the way she speaks. Although There were a few moments I had to replay because I couldn’t actually hear what she was saying
We used to have plams when I was growing up. Whenever we traveled and came home to almost dead plants my mum would put in some fertilizer in the soil and water it religiously everyday for like 2 weeks and it would come back alive. You can try that. It would be so painful if it dies.

I would definitely say its both the terra-cotta and the fact that it has so much more foliage to support! I work at a nursery and we often recommend keeping maidenhairs on a humidity tray (a saucer with pebbles and water) so that is has extra water to pull up as it needs! We also frequently recommend potting a maidenhair in terra-cotta, but then putting that same terra-cotta pot in a larger cache pot full of water so that it can continuously drink up as it needs!
Selene C No, ferns don’t need too much sunlight. It’s because the clay pot absorbed part of the water so that fern needed watering. I keep my fern in a glazed pot with no drainage hole, then it has all the moisture it needs and is not going to die if I don’t water it for 2 weeks.
Hi Audrie! I think your biggest fern *may* have suffered more because of the terracotta pot. It absorbs moisture, which is good when you have a tendency to overwater, but can cause dehydration in many cases. I’d suggest moving both your ferns to plastic pots, they could require less watering and should be fine when you leave for quite some time ;)
I was looking to see if anyone else said this before posting a comment. ferns and terra-cotta don’t do well together. It wicks water from the roots and would cause under watering in a fern

I set up a wicking system and left for 2 weeks. Use a cotton rope long enough to put into the pot and the other end into a large container of water. I have also done this another time for 3.5 weeks. Works really well!

You probably know this by now but all the low tolerant plants like the prayer plants can be pulled further away from the light source; then they can go longer without water since they’re using less energy. I think the maiden hair fern that was closer to the window dried out faster because it was closer to the window? I’m glad most of your plants survived! I’ve seen “only plants” revive a completely dead plant like your zebra by cutting it completely back to a stump. As long as the roots are ok, somehow the plants regenerate as long as you pull back on watering and let them be. They came back bushier than before! Plants are amazing.. God is so good 💚
good thing to do is to move plants away from the light when you go away! watering is always proportionate to light so if there was too much light and not enough water, then you have the poor lil zebrina situation. Move the particularly thirsty plants into a dark spot next time :)

After watching this video i'm so happy i'm into succulents! I thought i was leaving my plants for only two weeks, but because of all of the stuff i couldn't come back to them for FOUR MONTH. Couple of dead leaves and severe dehydration, but they all lived and even have new growth!
I keep my Marantas in a clear plastic bag knotted at the top, they still look great without any watering for a month as the bag creates a microclimate. I keep my fern in a glazed pot without a drainage hole so it doesn’t dry out and 2 and a half metres from the window as ferns don’t like direct sunlight.
i do this (leaving everyone for 2 weeks) often because i bounce between my bf's dorm and my house and sometimes i'll be at his for two weeks straight. I dont have loads of plants but they do fill up my tiny dark room and theyve always done well, i guess they just adapted to my weird schedule. it helps tho cus it does actually keep me on a schedule lol. every time i come back i get to check on growth for my plants and terrariums, water n mist everyone right as i get in and it's super relaxin' i havent gotten new plants in foreverrrr so this vid makes me excited to get some new kiddos. honestly the maidenhair looks pretty even when its all crispy so i may have to get one and if i kill it well at least it'll make nice dead decor too 😅
Hey! I just wanted to give you some advice on the palm you mentioned, but mostly on you mentioning that you mist it to increase humidity. Unfortunately, misting doesn’t do much of anything to increase the humidity, and mostly just evaporates within minutes. Pebble trays, a humidifier, and grouping plants together is pretty effective at increasing the humidity for it though. I hope your plants are doing well in the meantime ! :)
matt rose don’t get me wrong I have two humidifiers I’m just making a point that many websites online do recommend misting as it increases the humidity and prevents spider mite (mist in the morning so the leaves can dry before night time) I just don’t agree that misting is bad for plants
@@Spanny602 it could be very satisfying to spray your plant, I must say I do it too besides using a humidifier. But I make sure to never spray succulent type plants
Hi! If you usually don't have luck with plants i really recommend a zz plant, snake plant, or pothos!! Or of course succulents. In my opinion they're some of the easiest to care for! I hardly water my zz, snake or succulents. Like once a month/every few weeks when the soil dries out completely. And pothos will look wilted when they need water so they tell you what they want. They also don't require much light!

The reason why one of your maidenhair fern lived and the other didn't is because the one that lived was in a ceramic pot and the one that died was in a terracotta. Terracotta pots wycked away and and breathe causing the soil to dry out faster. Are your other pot which is ceramic keeps all the water in the dirt letting your friend soak up all the water instead of it being wycked away. Hope this helps :-)

The string of pearls you only have to water it like every once in a while I water mine every two weeks per say and I really recommend you to water it from the bottom it will only get the water that he needs but put it on the side take it off of that bowl and put it on a topper so you can get it all the water that it needs, but don’t do it too often though🥰💜 just an advice I hope you don’t get mad I don’t know ha ha

The maiden hair that lived was in less bright of light and it’s in a nursery pot. The terra cotta on the other one probably drank all the water in the first few days from the bottom. I can never keep them alive because i always end up forgetting after a few days lmao
For the two Maidenhair Ferns, the one in the terracotta pot probably dried out much faster due to the pot being more porous. If I 'm seeing it correctly, the other one that is looking good is in a ceramic pot. Ceramic pots tend to hold in more moisture. I've made this mistake with my ferns and now I only put them in ceramic pots.

The fern you used to water everyday (with the bottles on them) goes through cycles of drying and coming back to life, you can give it a ruthless haircut and wait xD

I think the maidenhair was just too close to the sunny window. Normally okay with regular watering but I'm guessing two weeks without a drink plus hot temperatures led to its demise...
Okay. Maidenhair ferns... Bigger one is dried because it drunk all the water from the bottle. It's bigger so it needs bigger bottle. Second reason is this: light. You placed it in direct light, and smaller one a tiny bit further from the window. Taaaadaaaaa! You can totally save the big one! Cut dead fronds and water the roots. It will grow back!

The one I had from Target broke, so a friend gave this one to me from Urban Outfitters. I wouldn’t recommend it though - it feels really cheap lol. I’m on the lookout for a better one!

Did you leave your blinds up while you were gone? The direct sunlight looks like it scorched your first maidenhair's leaves, but the second one was pulled back a bit and received less intense light so it didn't burn. If that's the case, that might be why the Zebra plant took a beating as well haha
I left them up, but both ferns were right next to each other on my desk. This window only gets morning light as well, so I thought it would be okay... I’m really confused honestly! 😅 Zebra plant was my bad, I should’ve kept that one away from the window 🙈

Some will come with fly gnats straight from the nursery, you just have to isolate those for a few weeks before adding them to your current collection. They’re kinda annoying but only come out when you water your plants.
i recently bought a small basil plant, and its been gradually drooping since the day i got last week. Idk why cuz its been getting enough indirect sunlight and water. What do i do?
@Leah Anna John if you’ve only had it for a week (a bit over a month now? 😅) watering daily is not good. These plants generally like to dry out between waterings. Wait until at least the top 2 inches have dried out and then give it a thorough watering. This means: enough water so it starts to run out of the bottom drainage holes. That way you’re enduring that all the soil is moistened and all roots have sufficient access to water. Then wait to water again until the top two inches of soil have dried out before watering again. Hopefully your plant is still alive and thriving when you read this! Good luck! 🍀
How do you care for your brasil philodendron? I got one recently but it looks wonky, a lot of people told me they basically thrive on neglect but I stopped paying attention to it for a couple days and it got a ton of dried leaves/spots ): It seemed like it was over watered before I got it so I let the soil dry on top (took about a week) and now it wants to die on me lol, any tips?
I’d have to see it to be sure, but it could be a number of things: too much sun, aging leaves, chemicals in your water, improper drainage, etc. As long as you see new growth coming in, it should be fine. If not, I’d probably try checking out the roots to see that it’s not rotting/root bound or something like that. Might also have an infection 😖 that’s happened to me with a couple of plants before!

I recommend you get a humidifier for your fenrns and your palm!! They will thrive. (misting doesn't give it more humidity ;p)

Hannah misting isn't that good for the plants ! it's encourages fungus growth on leaves and only increases humidity for minutes

It’s winter where I am and my plants are looking tired and sad and this has kicked my butt into tending to them and getting a prayer plant!!!

Heard that string of pearls likes to be in a brighter spot so maybe that could be the reason why the pearls are gettin bigger
For the terra cotta stakes, did you soak them in water first before filling and inserting the stakes?
The aloe vera will be more vibrant green if moved to half sun half shaded area. They get yellow in full sun. Writing from experiences :)
Where did you get the hanging pot for the spider and pothos plant from?
Next time as well I would pull the curtains almost completely closed so the plant won't use as much water growing

The one I had from Target broke, so a friend gave this one to me from Urban Outfitters. I wouldn’t recommend it though - it feels really cheap lol. I’m on the lookout for a better one!
The maiden hair fern needed to be further from the window... They don't like direct sun.

The reason one died and the other lived is because the dead one was in terracotta and terracotta wicks out water so it needs.more mositure than other types of pots
Did you leave your blinds up while you were gone? The direct sunlight looks like it scorched your first maidenhair's leaves, but the second one was pulled back a bit and received less intense light so it didn't burn. If that's the case, that might be why the Zebra plant took a beating as well haha
I left them up, but both ferns were right next to each other on my desk. This window only gets morning light as well, so I thought it would be okay... I’m really confused honestly! 😅 Zebra plant was my bad, I should’ve kept that one away from the window 🙈
The fern plant that died looks like it was too close to the window so lack of water and high sun brunt it
I think the hydro spikes don’t work that good if you combine it with a terra-cotta pot. Due to the fact that the terra-cotta is porous
Spider plant like being root bound. Of course you can report is, but it might really like de pot it's in now

bianca w can I ask what plants you have? And if you live in a flat/apartment or a house? I also wasn’t sure if the bugs thing was also just a house thing if you have gardens etc so maybe I’ll be safe in a higher ground city apartment 😭
Some will come with fly gnats straight from the nursery, you just have to isolate those for a few weeks before adding them to your current collection. They’re kinda annoying but only come out when you water your plants.

i recently bought a small basil plant, and its been gradually drooping since the day i got last week. Idk why cuz its been getting enough indirect sunlight and water. What do i do?
@Leah Anna John if you’ve only had it for a week (a bit over a month now? 😅) watering daily is not good. These plants generally like to dry out between waterings. Wait until at least the top 2 inches have dried out and then give it a thorough watering. This means: enough water so it starts to run out of the bottom drainage holes. That way you’re enduring that all the soil is moistened and all roots have sufficient access to water. Then wait to water again until the top two inches of soil have dried out before watering again.

How do you care for your brasil philodendron? I got one recently but it looks wonky, a lot of people told me they basically thrive on neglect but I stopped paying attention to it for a couple days and it got a ton of dried leaves/spots ): It seemed like it was over watered before I got it so I let the soil dry on top (took about a week) and now it wants to die on me lol, any tips?
I’d have to see it to be sure, but it could be a number of things: too much sun, aging leaves, chemicals in your water, improper drainage, etc. As long as you see new growth coming in, it should be fine. If not, I’d probably try checking out the roots to see that it’s not rotting/root bound or something like that. Might also have an infection 😖 that’s happened to me with a couple of plants before!
