Technically, specially respecting to the fixed armament the 23mm GSh-23L autocannon has less stopping power per round and a lower rate of fire. The DEFA 552 (and the later DEFA 554 equipped in more recent versions of the Dassault Mirage such as M5, M50, and later Mirage F.1 and 2000) is heavier per round (the physical dimensions of the larger projectile allows more explosive charge per projectile), and also it has a individual cyclic rate of fire of 1800 rounds per minute. Multiply it twofold and you'll have a devastating rate of nearly 3600 rounds per minute (lower than their contemporary British made and similar 30 mm ADEN autocannon fitted to the Hawker Hunter, that in quad configuration gunpack hits quite more of 5000 rounds per minute, and slightly lower than the current GAU-8 fitted to the US close air support aircraft A-10). And also the Israelis showed that they could win against the Fishbed in two wars. An Israeli Air Force pilot said: We have defeated the MiG-21, but we could have won wit it, and in a much clearer way still.
there is a lot of misinformations , early mig21 use a 30mm (NR-30) while later one use the GSH-23 and those between didn't have it at all even as a gunpod (Mig-21 PF/PFS/FL) , and for the combat history , israeli pilot were well trained , where arab pilots were not and arab country use export model of the MiG-21 wich were well inferior to the model use by the soviet union at the same time , so if we compare them fairly , MiG-21 use by a soviet pilot with a soviet model vs a Mirage III pilot by an israeli pilot for exemple , they are pretty equal, the winner is the first one to see the other one
Theres also a similar game out, with 4-5 different Mig-21's and Mirage IIIC, where players duke it out online, title of that game is War Thunder. Only issue is, you have to start with bottom of the line bi-planes and progress all the way up.
Not to mention other contemporary similar autocannons such as the American Pontiac M39 (used by the F-5 Freedom Fighter / Tiger II, reaches 3000 rounds per minute in cyclic) and the later General Electric M61 Vulcan (current standard autocannon since the F-104 Starfighter and the F-4E Phantom II, reachs a whopping 6000 rounds per minute). Regarding this, the stopping power of each 20 mm round is even lower, but in the case of the M61 Vulcan it's more than compensated by the tremendous ammo volume fired in just a single burst.
Good eye, has the more tapered nose for better ground visibility. Comparing its nose to the Mirage III is like, say, comparing the nose of the MiG-27 to the MiG-23 (Mirage 5 and MiG-27 both tapered for the same reason).
The Mirage III was a lovely little plane to fly. Far better than the MiG 21. Australia sold theirs to Pakistan in 1990 and they remain in service today. Australia had them mostly based at the Butterworth Air Force base in Malaysia
The Australian Mirage III-O was built in Australia under licence and was a real hotrod. Australia from memory was the second-largest operator of the III type outside of France.
becuse you are doing a video abot french and soviet figther aircrafts can you please do a video about Swedish figthers from the same era like the J29 tunan, J32 Lansen, j35 Dragon or AJS 37 Vigen and then comper them whit other planes from the same era. Sorry for my bad english I am 🇸🇪
J35 Draken for sure was an impressive aircraft, Viggen is more to be compared to Mirage F1, F4E or Early version of mig 23 afterwards it does not look so bright for the Viggen since more modern and deadly aircraft entered service such as Mig 29, F15, F16, Mirage 2000 which are simply better by all acounts. However just like the F4 Phantom it remained a capable aircraft just, not quite comparable to what came during the late 70's early 80's... That being said, Sweden deserve a lot of respect for having designed amongst the best jet aircraft of the 60's and early 70's. For such a small country that is quite a feat and they stil pursue this up to this day. The Gripen is just impressive for what it costs, managing to be mostly on par with the EF Typhoon and the CV90 serie of vehicle is probably the best proven tracked IFV design on earth.
Not really, both the Mig-21 and Mirage III are equal in both performance and ability, both were designed as High speed interceptors and performed quite well in the role assigned but your assesment in calling the Mig a sitting duck is too biased towards its poor performance by Arab countries. If the Israelis had been using the so called "sitting duck" Mig-21s against the Arab in Mirage III the Israelis would dominate the Mirages and make the Mirage a real sitting duck
Some of the facts he mentioned were wrong like it’s top speed being Mach 1.05 , I’d like to clarify that the mig21 has a top speed of 2,229km/h also I would also like to add another fact the mig21 could out preform the mirage in high alt and finally whoever is the better pilot is the one who is winning the dog fight
"... Which one would win in a fight ? ... " Well, we did have the answer in 1967 in israëlo-arab war. No contest, the numbers speak by themselves: the Mirages were the winners ...
Before people start quoting facts and figures about losses in engagements, one must first consider what was the environment of the engagements and the strategy adopted by the opposing aircraft. The aircraft losses may have had nothing to do with actual aircraft capabilities, particularly if you are surprised or bounced. In view of this, in a one on one engagement between pilots of equal capability, all factors being equal (and generally they aren't), my money is on the Mig-21............easily.
A Pakistan Air Force PAF pilot Flt/Lt Ata was flying Mirage lll midnight in December 1971 and easily shoot down indian air force Canberra aircraft killing all three members crew .
I remember seeing that MiG in a book: It's the MiG-21-2000, a late twentieth century upgrade package IAI was offering to friendly Arab nations. Not sure how it would compare with similar Russian upgrades packages e.g. MiG-21 "Bison."
Mirage 3 of course ! faster with deadly and accurate the DEFA 30mm canon with 1200 rounds ,more manouvrable and fly at higher altitude ,the early models of MIG 21 did not have a gun but just 2 obsolete A2A short range missile and cannot hold extra fuel tanks .the Egyptians suffered to much from these models until they recieved the updated MIG 21 MF with 23mm gun bit also with less rounds than the mirage DEFA gun
The Indian Air Force Mig-21 Bison had the improved Windscreen and Bubble Canopy for better visibility. This video is trying to make us believe 1 Mach is 1,000 miles per hour. It's 761.207 miles per hour. The Mig-21 is a Mach 2 Fighter Interceptor.
I often see "MiG-21" used as both singular and plural whereas its "MiG" or "MiGs," "Mirage or Mirages." In the same sense as with the MiG, "Mirage III" may be both singular and plural. A "Mirage III" faced a flight of "MiG-21" ...or, a "Mirage" faced a flight of "MiGs."
The triangle wing is still used in the Mirage 2000, Rafale, Eurofighter, all very agile aircraft; so the Mirage III with Mach 2.2 and that wing, must have been really something for its time. The Mig-21 is the most produced supersonic aircraft in history with more than 10.000 built. There must be a reason for this. Overall, we shall never know whicb is better.

In 1966 the israeli mossad got one iraqi mig 21. The israeli AF pilots examined his Aerial maneuvering capabilities. they found the mirage 3c was much better, and it helped them win the 6 days war.
Wrong. Israeli aces (Lt-Col Kobi Richter and Major Eli Adar) aknowledged that the only way a Mirage III could outperform a Mig-21 was in high alpha low speed. That's mainly the regime you end-up in a dogfight anyway so it was then that they had a chance against a Mig-21. And they took it.
Pakistan is still operating Mirage 3 glorious fighters with 4th generation upgrades.A Pakistani pilot also shot down a Mirage fighter using Mig 21.Its mean Pakistani pilots have skills on both aircrafts
I have to say that by simplifying the content you start stretching those fact, thus the factual quality is decreased. Just generalizing the MIg-21 and Mirage 2 families doesn't do them "proper honor", subsequently we could hear some conflicting facts. In other words, 10 minutes its simply not enough to talk about such things as aircraft, especially such versatile (hence tens of modifications) models as Mirage 3 and Mig-21.
India is not using MIG 21 anymore as they have been decommisened . The latest Crash was on 09/05/2020 luckily pilot survived and there was no causality as the pilot ended up crashing the MIG 29 into the fields. there is a lot of misinformations , early mig21 use a 30mm (NR-30) while later one use the GSH-23 and those between didn't have it at all even as a gunpod (Mig-21 PF/PFS/FL) , and for the combat history , israeli pilot were well trained , where arab pilots were not and arab country use export model of the MiG-21 wich were well inferior to the model use by the soviet union at the same time , so if we compare them fairly , MiG-21 use by a soviet pilot with a soviet model vs a Mirage III pilot by an israeli pilot for exemple , they are pretty equal, the winner is the first one to see the other one
The Israeli pilots seem to have better eye sight since the mirage nearly always won over the mig.

7:19 Pakistan Air Force Mirage 5. It is not Mirage 3 it is 5
Good eye, has the more tapered nose for better ground visibility. Comparing its nose to the Mirage III is like, say, comparing the nose of the MiG-27 to the MiG-23 (Mirage 5 and MiG-27 both tapered for the same reason).
Le Mirage3 est mieux que le Mig21.

Not to mention to the two squadrons based at Williamtown
Don't forget the Operation Focus, when strategy triumphed tactics.
becuse you are doing a video abot french and soviet figther aircrafts can you please do a video about Swedish figthers from the same era like the J29 tunan, J32 Lansen, j35 Dragon or AJS 37 Vigen and then comper them whit other planes from the same era. Sorry for my bad english I am 🇸🇪
För Sverige!
Easily Mirrage III. .. Mirrage are built to strike hard and fast ... like a Rattle Snake.... MIG will be like a sitting Duck....
It's said the MiG-21 is more maneuverable because of the stabilizers. The bis version was the ultimate type.
"... Which one would win in a fight ? ... " Well, we did have the answer in 1967 in israëlo-arab war. No contest, the numbers speak by themselves: the Mirages were the winners ...
Should do english Electric lightning vs f4 phantom (the american one)
7:17- you are forgetting about the indeginous israeli Python 4 and Python 5 air to airs, which also can be currently outfitted on there f16 variants
The Mig-21 has a strange unique look.
Looks toughly built
It really depends on the pilot, there is no such thing as best plane.
I also wanna add that, the MiG-21F-13 is the worse type of MiG, so dont even compare that to western aircraft, try MiG-21SMT or MiG-21Bis.
How bout mirage 3 vs. F4 phantom? Which is better?
2:23 - Israeli Kfir and on the Mikoyan Gurevich (MiG) 21 is the Israel Arcraft Industries logo
I remember seeing that MiG in a book: It's the MiG-21-2000, a late twentieth century upgrade package IAI was offering to friendly Arab nations. Not sure how it would compare with similar Russian upgrades packages e.g. MiG-21 "Bison."
Mirage 3 of course ! faster with deadly and accurate the DEFA 30mm canon with 1200 rounds ,more manouvrable and fly at higher altitude ,the early models of MIG 21 did not have a gun but just 2 obsolete A2A short range missile and cannot hold extra fuel tanks .the Egyptians suffered to much from these models until they recieved the updated MIG 21 MF with 23mm gun bit also with less rounds than the mirage DEFA gun
nothing new.does anyone at this channel do research?

@Izno Iznogoud correct it wasn't entirely submerged in water, but it was heavily damaged and completely useless and nearly unsalvageable. As for it being ordered by LBJ, there's hardly any evidence for it, and compared to the mountains of evidence in regards to other parts it's a rather odd claim. Especially considering that if he had planned to do it, it would not have turned out as it did
In 1966 the israeli mossad got one iraqi mig 21.
Mirage III was not only single seater fighter - there was the D, for example.

What the video game has been showed ?
I have to say that by simplifying the content you start stretching those fact, thus the factual quality is decreased. Just generalizing the MIg-21 and Mirage 2 families doesn't do them "proper honor", subsequently we could hear some conflicting facts. In other words, 10 minutes its simply not enough to talk about such things as aircraft, especially such versatile (hence tens of modifications) models as Mirage 3 and Mig-21.
India is not using MIG 21 anymore as they have been decommisened . Now Indai is using MIG 29 and these MIG 29 are out of date and facing service issues and recently an average of 4 to 5 crash a year while practise. The latest Crash was on 09/05/2020 luckily pilot survived and there was no causality as the pilot ended up crashing the MIG 29 into the fields. Indian

There is a factual error you made at the beginning of the video, MiG 21 in all its many forms is a 3rd generation fighter jet, not second. Some even consider the IAF MiG 21 Bis (Bison) to be a 4th gen fighter due to its many upgrades in avionics and weaponry
Edit: Also, Mig 21's top speed is indeed Mach 1.05 but that is at sea level. At optimal altitude (10 to 13.000 m) it can go as fast as mach 1.75 in level flight and over Mach 2 in a dive

Wrong Mirage. Wish there was DCS Mirage III...
No need to die wondering, the Arab Israeli war settled that one pretty well. While the Mirage was (and imo still is) an exceptionally beautiful aircraft, I think that maybe the "French lady" alluded to by JsaPlays33 was a bit of a bitch. Low speed handling was poor and it had a very hot landing speed. Many were lost because of these issues.
the advantage of mirage 3 is high speed interceptor and weapon caring capacity good at high speed but not so good in close combat dog fight vs mig 21 at slow speed ......which had been proven by pakistani pilot abdul sattar alvi ..who fought as a volunteer against israel in arab Israel war ........according to him two israeli mirages engaged him in close combat as a result he shot down 1 israeli mirage by using syrian mig 21 and the 2nd mirage was escaped at high speed ........their uniform (of israeli pilot) is still preserved in Pakistan air force museum today.......according to pakistani pilot syrian pilots have a lack of skills and information about positive and negative points of their fighter jets
