The 2021 FIDE World Cup is a 206-player knockout taking place in Krasnaya Polyana, near Sochi, Russia from July 12 to August 6. The prize fund is almost $1.9m, with $110,000 for the winner, while the finalists also qualify for the 2022 Candidates Tournament. The top 50 players, who include world nos 1 and 2 Magnus Carlsen and Fabiano Caruana, are seeded directly into Round 2.
Each match consists of two classical games where the players have 90 minutes for 40 moves, then 30 minutes to the end of the game, plus a 30-second increment from move 1. If tied, a playoff will be held on the 3rd day. There are two 25+10 rapid games followed, if needed, by two 10+10 games, then two 5+3, and finally an Armageddon game, where White has 5 minutes to Black's 4 but a draw counts as a win for Black. Bach is of the Baroque period, ~1600-1750, and it was only in the Classical period, 1750-1800 that Mozart and Haydn started shaping the symphony genre. It that period they were mostly regarded as entertainment/background music (at social events). Beethoven was the one who shaped the genre into what we view it to be now.

and Vivaldi..??...back end of the 1600's, early 1700's....the world's first rock star perhaps..?? His 4 seasons, apart from its virtuosity ( and an inspiration for Paganini), was perhaps the first cohesive work of 'modern' music, rather than individual tunes, of which Bach was a master.
Classical was 1750 to 1825 wasn't it? And Mozart and Haydn were the other two important classical composers. The Viennese School Giants

Dubov is very creativel, If he was willing to play boring games sometimes he would definitely be higher rated but it's against his style lol.

This was a REALLY beautiful game! A symphony is really an apt metaphor, so much power through the harmony and subtle "little" moves. No single blunt move in the whole attack, gorgeous!

I’m not sure that I have ever seen such an amazing game of Chess. Dubov moves his pieces with such ease, confident and sophistication it’s difficult to keep up with the ever changing web of inter-relationships between his pieces. And the threat of danger passes between at least eight pieces with just a single move of one of them; like the many headed hydra, each piece, almost in turn, threatens the end for Black. Even Black’s capture of major pieces seems to have no effect on White’s March to victory. Astonishingly.
The feel of the game is very much...Alpha-Zero like. There's no good move for Stockfish.

Dubov's game is like a Boa Constructor. After every breath you take he squeezes further until you're unable to move. It's brutal!
I love the piling on of pressure by Dubov, as well as the patient subtle moves that allowed him to reposition while maintaining the pressure. Black was just stiffled and left with no attack of his own. He could only try to reinforce and block, but to no avail.

People often refer to Bach as "listerning to maths"
Bach was beyond genius, I worked it out once, that if a typical modern album is about an hour long (that's being generous) Bach wrote over 200 albums....... remember, that a band consisting of 4 members often write 3/6 albums, look at rage against the machine, they wrote 4 albums and they are considered a extremely talented band. Bach literally wrote thousands of pieces. There's only one way you can write that ammount in a life time, and that's by understanding music is really just equations

This guy is a 2600 GM and Dubov made him look like a child. It's crazy to see as we grow in rating because when you're 800, you look up to 1100s, and so on and so on. You never expect this level of suffocation to come at the top level when everyone is a professional at chess. But this really goes to show the thin line that separates the Super GMs from GMs. Truly impressive performance by Dubov. Any time you post a video with him, I already assume it's going to be a wild ride. Great content as always Antonio!
