Hey Dave, thanks for posting this video. I used it to help me replace the alternator on my 2014 Honda Civic. I struggled a bit with my low quality hand tools, but I got the job done. Thank you.
Bungee cord is a great tip ya I’d rather not re-route that belt, funny though I just used my last 2 bungies for the gas tank on my 2007 Ridgeline ( I kid you not) . There’s a recall I’ve been avoiding for years because it said they may have to buy the truck off me and I don’t want that it’s real low mileage for the year and has been a good one but I finally took a look for myself and sure enough the gas tank is very close to falling out! Which they said may hit and come in contact with the drive shaft and go boom!! I wasn’t going to drive it until it got fixed but then my alternator bearing started squealing on my daily 2015 civic and didn’t want to get stranded ( been there ). Great vid Man thanks! Ps. It’s winter and it’s way below freezing and snowing like crazy, tough to work out on the driveway in that but you gotta do what you gotta do.
@@DeancentGarageI think I was trying to remove the wrong bolt. I located the front one. Now it just won’t come out of the car and I’m not sure why. There’s a bolt directly underneath it (in the front), but no video that I’ve watched speaks to that possibly holding it in.
Just did this using this video to guide me. Word of advice, my part did not come with the shield to the right that holds the wire. You're better off attaching that to the new alternator before anything else, or else it's more of a pain to reach the bolts.
Hey thanks for the great video. So I have a question. Recently my Honda civic 2012 just stopped working out of the blue. It struggled to start for a few times this morning but refused to start on the third time today. However while the car refused to start, all my electrical continued to work (AC/Radio/Lights etc). I tried getting a battery jump start but it didn’t seem to work. The battery is supposed to be in relatively good health (I had a test done a month ago). I have a sneaking suspicion it is either my alternator or starting motor that’s the issue. Do you have any tips to closer pinpoint which of these two could be causing my electrical issues? When I trying to turn on the car with battery jump start, I hear a very quiet “whirring sound” but no start. I am also in the process of getting a voltmeter and car code reader computer. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Also what length bungee cord did you use to hold your belt? Thanks again for the informative video!
Hey godwinjoy, it's very difficult to troubleshoot over the internet. From what you're describing it would lead me toward the alternator or stater as you said. I suggest watching a couple starter motor Troubleshooting videos to see if the symptoms are similar to yours. I didn't measure the bungee cord, I had a multi pack and grabbed one that was a bit shorter than needed when relaxed so that when stretched it provided tension to hold the belt on the pulleys/rollers. You Could measure from the hood where I hooked mine to the belt and then deduct 3-4 inches from the measurememt to get an idea of the bungee cord length needed. Good luck!
@@DeancentGarage sorry for the late response but it ended up being the starter. The most hassle I’ve ever dealt with for a $100 part. Thank you though.

Awesome to hear, congrats! Good tools certainly help make the job easier.
Excellent job
Hey man, this video was great it helped me change my alternator, which seems like it went bad...detail video preciate
Thank you dear friend…it helped me a lot!!!

Thank you so much for the wrench trick! Different size bolt (14) on a 15 Si, but saved me
There’s a piece beside the bottom 12mm screw that’s blocking me from getting the socket on. Any suggestions?
Without seeing what you're referring to, it's hard to help. Can that piece that's in the way be removed, or would a shorter or longer socket help?

@socold6 have you tried prying it out like I show in the video provided you have all the bolts out?
@@DeancentGaragehad to get a pry bar and saw that it was the wrong bolt. 🤦🏾♂️ Got it changed! Thanks for your help!
@socold6 awesome to hear!
Useful heads up on alt change thanks.
Just a note about battery terminals, always remove first and add last the negative lead.
I live life on the edge 😂
Great video

Thank for this it was helpful when I changed mine
Very helpful thank you
Glad to hear it helped you!
Perfect!

Happy to hear you got it figured out!
@@godwinjoy9730 Curios how many when starter needed a replacement? @deanccentgarage you replaced alternator at 500,000 km?
I’m guessing the belt tensioner is a nut? Beginner here!!!
That's correct, just a nut on a Tensioning device.
@ awesome thank you!

You're welcome!
