TBH guild wars is a fire MMO. I am totally aware I am biased as Guild Wars 1 is my childhood, but still. The stories and the worldbuilding is really special in that series. Say whatever you want about NCsoft and it's ilk, GW is made with a lot of love even to this day.

Imagine rushing out everyone to endgame at 300% speed with ridiculously OP abilities from the get-go when the whole point of what made vanilla a timeless classic is the long, epic journey through Azeroth, starting super weak and each step growing a little bit in power, which is what makes it super satisfying. SoD has been a huge bummer since phase 1.
Because there's not much else left for a classic WoW addict. Like he said in the video you only have Cataclysm to chose from outside of vanilla and a lot of classic enjoyers aren't into that, then there's hardcore which isn't everyones cup of tea and doesn't lend itself to endgame content too well or ERA servers which tend to have fewer players and/or inflated economies.

I would honestly be okay with Blizzard starting fresh with vanilla, then going to TBC, then to Wrath, then wiping the servers and starting all over again. Doing this on, say, a 3 year cycle for eternity would be my favorite. The hype for vanilla would be super strong by the time Wrath finished each time around. That or a real classic+, but who know if that is ever gonna happen. Considering how Blizzard is running the various versions of classic right now, I dunno if I'd even trust them to make a classic+ game without spoiling it via WoW Tokens or other microtransactions. Like it or not, the original vanilla/TBC/Wrath devs are gone and unfortunately we are stuck with the whims and ideas (or lack thereof) of the current WoW classic dev team. SoD had some interesting ideas, but as Azamous said, much of the "new" things are just Wrath or retail concepts crammed into vanilla. I'd give just about anything for Blizzard to even forego MoP and go back for a relaunch of vanilla. I know lots of people like MoP, but every time I think back to its talents system and the pandas' faction-less nature, I can't help but feel we lost the classic identity (though in my opinion once the world changed in Cata it wasn't classic by any stretch of the imagination.)
Try TurtleWoW... seriously.. I can't praise it enough. 1 layer, classic experience. Players are everywhere, it feels alive and thriving. Auction house is not broken. Talent trees are reworked. Many other little things.
You know damn well its heading up to BFA and people will still make vids about how hyped x expac was etc. The only way to stop is to take a break. You would be surprised how a company will move if its hurting it bottom line.
I wonder if they will go through all the expacs one at a time or simply have 1 server running each expansion at the same time. Might be too much work to do that.
I don't understand why Blizzard doesn't take some inspiration from OSRS... Why not make Classic be community driven? I have a perfect name for it: Classic+ where Blizzard makes a poll on potential changes they think could be cool for the game and the community can vote on it?? Even let the community contribute with their own ideas!
Because at every step of the multiple decades of WoW's development they have acted like they know better than the playerbase. Why would that change now.
They definitely couldn't go fully in the direction of player-voting unfortunately, but they could get partway there. What I mean is that for things like class-balancing, the introduction of new abilities, racial-balancing and faction-balancing, the community would (for the most part) vote for whatever suits their own interests. Runescape avoids this issue because every base player is exactly the same, there are no factions, classes or races to work with. That said, I think for things like what content to add that all players can access, a voting system would be a great addition.
Boy I cant way for Shadowlands SoD Classic! Jokes aside, I agree 100%: Classic is the original trilogy in my eyes. I know a lot of people didn't seem to enjoy WoTLK the 2nd time around as much, but I definitely did and had the most fun there. Although I did miss out a lot on TBC Classic due to other things going on so I hope they bring that back as I would love to experience it properly.
TBC was the lesser of the 3 but had a pretty stable population, it was generally pretty good and I had a lot of fun with it. Unlike in WOTLKC there were people still levelling about in the open world but it wasn't so busy that you were in active competition. At max people were running multiple different raids despite them not being current.
Honestly I really disagree after playing ESO (very similiar, gear isn't really ever outdated). I feel like you loose a lot of the RPG progression that MMOs have.
I tried like 10 levels in GW2 and gameplay wise I really liked it from the little I played, I'm just not as invested in the lore as the first 3 wow games. Gameplay wise though I'd definitely play that over WOW.
@leafarasta4517 Shining through half-knowledge? Strikes have replaced raids between Path of Fire and Janthir Wilds and Dungeons were abandoned for fractals, which act as mini dungeons and from which WoW took their M+ concept.

@@theoutlander1411 GW2 has way better lore in terms of questing and leveling. You literally have a personal story questline that builds your character within the world and ties you into the lore of the game? Level is genuinely one of the best aspects of GW2.
I always thought the concept of a "Cata Classic" was really weird since for me, the "Classic" era ended with the Cataclysm as it permanently changed Azeroth. As for me, I don't really need a MoP Classic as WoW Remix: Mists of Pandaria gave me a really good fix of MoP content and I had plenty of fun running through all the old dungeons, scenarios just fine.
I think at this point they could honestly keep one server for each expansion (maybe two, PVE, PVP). They could still release them sequentially, but once the next expansion comes along, you have the choice of staying where you are, or moving to the next expansion (similar to like they did with Classic and the TBC launch, but hopefully without the cost). If you then decide 6 months down the line you're ready to move along, you choose to move your character along to the next expansion. Would be ideal for any completionists out there that want to "finish" an expansion before moving along no matter what pace they move at. And players like yourself could effectively keep a TBC character forever. I am sure they will monetize it by allowing people to jump straight into any expansion they like with a level boost. But having the option to work your way up through the expansions as well would be pretty awesome.
I would enjoy playing Legion again. Don't think I would want to go through WOD to get there. And I could maybe hang around there enough to get a Legendary this time. I never got one before BFA came out. Being able to create a new Legion character and just play that expansion would be neat.
I think a fix to the wsg and ab issue would be to add a vendor similar to the reals vendor where you can turn in the wsg and ab marks for pvp centric gear. Also getting some more new items to the stv vendor would be a good change.
Never thought I'd see a GW2 sponsorship here. But I've been playing since beta, and I can say with 100% certainty that it's the most player-friendly MMO on the market with one of the best communities. Anyone who can get past the non-tab-targetting combat system/style will love it.
@@kuntkunt-iy2rz in common MMO parlance, "tab targeting" refers to the non-action combat systems like WoW, SWTOR, EverQuest, etc. An incorrect differentiation, but it's what we came up with back in the day and it stuck. GW2 has tab-targetting as a function, but it's not considered a tab-targetting MMO.
My hope is after cata they stop moving classic in the same direction. What I'd like to see is fresh classic that's similar to SoM in that it's a faster 1 year cadence but with minimal changes from 2019 classic otherwise, then transition to a classic+ after with new raids, quests, gear, and dungeons but doesn't hugely change the class balance. After that transition to classic BC again, then a BC+. Well that's a long shot, but it would be cool.
The biggest point made is definitely what "Classic" means to people. From what i can tell for alot it just means "old content" not really the older style of game or original trilogy. To me anything with micro-transactions, LFD, LFR, CRZ just aint it. There's definitely some changes needed for the sake of QoL and taming the "modern audience" but ultimately "Classic" benefits most from struggling not instant gratification. The modern content in Retail is actually very cool! but the foundations of the game including those things i listed just turn me off of it. Nobody wants to actually spend 30 minutes+ running to a dungeon but it puts players in the perspective to appreciate things like mounts, summons, and ports. Nobody wants to spend 30+ minutes looking for people manually for a group, but this makes players more patient with dungeons instead of leaving after 1 wipe or kicking somebody because they made a mistake and you can replace them with a 5 minute que. It encourages making friends and joining guilds for the sake of making groups easier. There is definitely the crowd that likes these instant gratification mechanics, but the thing is that's what retail has been shaped for, thats literally the game you want.
I kind of see why it would be a problem to make a server for each expansion of the golden trilogie, I mean look at era, there’s what maybe 2-3 servers having a healthy population ? Imagine if we split it even more for wrath and tbc.. I see why people want to see it happen but objectively it would be almost impossible to find people in there and so blizzard thinks it’s not worth paying for exclusive servers
I think the biggest problem with all versions of World of Warcraft is the developers literally just don't know what to do OR what they are doing and why. They should do what Old School Runescape does, and poll the playerbase with an in game koisk or something that has what they want to do or what thing should they do and have actual players in game who are playing the game cast votes on what they feel they want from the developers. This is a simple thing Old School Runescape did that kinda worked well. It wasn't perfect, nothing is. But it was better than JaGeX giving the players what they thought they wanted but they didn't want. I literally feel its as simple as that. Poll the community and say "Should we remove Looking For Raid?" "Should we go back to 1 raid difficulty?" "Should we balance and reward PvP more?". They don't even bother. They had those "Community Council" members on the forums which was super vague and weird to be picked into the "council" to represent the community and it was a total shit show and a failure. It really bothers me that Blizzard Devs there now just keep making the same mistakes. But the grander issue is, they continue to make mistakes but aren't punished financially for it. They should be. If like 80% of the playerbase leaves, like with what happened in Warlords of Draenor, that means we get things like Legion happen.
For SoD they focused super hard on class abilities & redesigning old areas when what everyone wanted was new areas, places to explore, dungeons, raids, enjoyable PvP, new race/class combos, and maybe even playable races. It's more or less Retail in Classic. Rather than Classic with new experiences. I dropped in P3 & don't intend to return.
They wont do mists classic. They just did remix. Which is what they will do for the following expansions onward. Wod remix etc... all we can hope is that cataclysm classic becomes a launcher for tbc/wrath/cata servers, and classic wow stays its own thing with classic plus/seasonal options
I'm sticking with Cata for the time being... I guess we are at a point where classic simply means -not retail- . I frankly would love to move through all the expansions at an accelerated rate. But I do think the ultimate goal of blizzard should be to have 1 mega server for every expansion. I think SOD was a mistake and i think Mop Remix was a slap in the face... I hope they get their priority straight and focus on executing the basics correctly instead of the horrible state of launch we had for Cata classic...
I wouldnt mind for there to be MOP Era servers for example, but its not really classic. To be honest it would be nice if there were servers for each expansion so anyone would choose what fits them best.
I have the same opinion that for me Vanilla, TBC and Wotlk is Classic (its the golden Era) and its a shame that blizzard don't give us the possibility to play TBC and Wotlk anymore. What makes me even more upset, is the fact that they don't even need to develop this versions since they already did it but we still cant play it anymore. They just have forgotten why this movement from classic started at all.
I hope that even if its not coming out soon that we have a better roadmap for the future of Classic. How is it that retail can get a road map for the next 3 expansions and Classic players are stuck in this limbo, worried that the thing they fought for 4-5+ years ago is going to be bastardised into something they didn't ask for. You're not going to convince me that planning the Worldsoul Saga is easier than telling classic players what the planned future is going to be. Even if their plans are met with backlash from the players, it could lead to them pivoting their direction in a more positive way, but at the very least it lets the community actually discuss the future as opposed to us just wondering whats going on. I want to believe that a lot of the retail-esque design of SoD is for the sake of experimentation but whose to say they don't just stick with it. If Classic+ plays like SoD then I worry about its future, and if I don't have sustainable ways to play the golden trilogy in that scenario what am I meant to do? Classic Era, TBC, WotlK needs a fresh cycle with era servers left behind and Classic+ needs to pivot from the direction SoD is in
This is how i would do classic if i was blizzard. First i would start with 3 realms ,a tbc a ,vanilla and Wotlk realm.. When the final patch of every expansion is played enough, I would make 3 new realms, and name the fist realms legacy realms. At the end of every cycle all characters would transfer to the legacy realms and we could play classic wow forever and ever.
Man, do classic "reboot" but launch classic, tbc, and wotlk at once .. do it with lvl 60 cap and maybe the SoD abilities, but classic skill trees for sure. All the Raids in Flex mode (9-30ppl. like in retail) and just launched step by step.
On the topic of "wut classic be?" - Like you I originally thought of the first 3 wow releases as textbook classic definition, but after going through all 3 again I must admit WotLK seems like the biggest turn in the game features towards what retail is today. Dont get me wrong I absolutely LOVED how fluid my Warrior felt in arena matches all of wrath but for the PvE side I was more or less over doing the weekly lockout for fun about mid way through the like 20(?) week Ulduar phase and only attended for the gear upgrades needed for Arena competition and by the time ICC released I CBA to even run it a single time just from how different it feels to raid in wrath compared to TBC/Original. The only feature in TBC that I found myself indifferent towards was basically everyone's #1 nag about it - introduction of Flying mounts, actually now I realise I have 2 things TBC did that I'm justy not that wild about, flying and how it was the start of where each expansion funneled all players to a single area/city and made all previous game areas a sort of near ghost town cause everyone was afking in Shatt on their flying mounts. Vanilla and TBC are now what I envision when I think of "Classic WoW"
for me, sod just came way to late, it should have been there 1-2months after nax was cleared(classic-vanila). Thats why I didn't even bother playing SoD, cuz it was obvious from the get-go, that blizzard will make it unfinished - basically SoD is Alpha for Classic+ and when they make Classic+ we will be playing PTR

the future of classic wow are private servers. always have been, always will be. "official" classic was just a low quality money grab distraction a lot of people fell for, including myself.
They have to add servers that cycle through vanilla, tbc and wrath over 2 years or so... or just add tbc and wrath servers. I think servers that cycle and reset would be better in the long run tho, vanilla fresh is overdue imo.
I'm sooo agree with you when you say afetr Wrath it is not classic anymore.... Because that ends the story starts in 1994 with warcraft 1 the warcraft 2 and 3...
For me is classic - Vanilla, TBC, WotLK, Cata, MoP after this WoW becomes a modern MMO. You can ask the community if this is true but most of them tell you the same that WoD was the modern era from WoW.
IMO classic is anything prior to Activision purchasing Blizzard (Vanilla to Mid/Late Wrath). I wish they would have like 1 mega server for each Vanilla/TBC/Wrath Era (Probably PVE to not turn off casuals). As for Cata, i think the pvp is fun but the raids are too hard for many casuals, unpopular opinion but i think they should offer a option to turn on/off the nerfed versions of the raids so sweaty people can prog and casuals can still play.
Yeah the magic has been leaking away. It just all feels like they are phoning it in. DF/War Within is garbage, they dropped the ball with SoD, and Cata is boring and irrelevant. I played SoD till my guild quit in p3 after the delay announcement. There hasn't been a reason to play any version since. TBC/Wrath wouldn't change anything imo.
They need to bring 1 mega server for TBC, and Wrath. Follow that by designing sod with real *new* content. like all the raids that should have been. They gave us a dungeon, give us a raid. Tanaris... Furbolg area in Azshara, etc.
Since SoD pvp content is dead I just play MoP PvP private server everyday and raidlog for once a week in SoD. And I quit cata raiding a loong time ago with no interest in future content until 5.X. REALLY hope they pull the break and focus on "the future of classic aka Classic+" and whilst doing so re-release 2019 classic. PM me if you need any help.

Going forward could be so easy. Era vanilla Era TBC Era WOTLK Go with a Classic+, only needs minor changes from current vanilla wow, and a little more content now and than, rarely needs updates. And then retail. This thing with dividing playerbase is stupid, people play what they want, and it doesnt fucking matter.
Blizzard just needs to keep a permanent set of classic vanilla servers, and just keep re cycling classic vanilla, TBC, and wrath for the next decade or two until the company dies, if it ever does.
My love for WoW ended with Wrath for me, I loved TBC so much, I never played classic, I play retail but I'm struggling with leveling/playing the new expansion, I didn't like dragon isles, I liked Shadow Lands, I liked BFA. I quit in Cata, I returned nearly 10years later in BFA, I miss the game that was TBC, wearing greens and blues into Kara, just the attunment to enter Kara was tough but fun. I loved black temple so much, i'm babbling, I just miss TBC.
Just make it a sesonal thing. A rotation between Vanilla, BC and WOTLK, 6 months each, exp boost to make it so most people don't spend most of that time only leveling and that's it. 6 months over? Characters are migrated to the "main" classic branch and you can continue from there if you so desire. Oh your favorite xpac is BC but Vanilla is up atm? Just wait a while and you'll start it fresh with everyone else. I'm actually surprised that this wasn't done already.
Adding extra levels each expansion killed the game since it would make the past content irreleveant, basically downgrading the game. Instead when they do classic+ they should take alot of assets from TBC and WOTLK and just put it into the vanilla world, like how an expansion should've been. Hellfire peninsula instead of being a 58-70 zone will be 48-60 zone. This way, all the vanilla content will stay relevant whilst also satisfying the TBC and WOTLK enjoyers. Maybe for the dungeons and raids, since there will be a bunch at that point (vanilla, tbc and wotlk), have them in a rotation. Or if mega servers work like what was announced, you might not need to rotate them. Change the loot tables of the dungeons and raids too to make them all relevant ("why would i run that dungeon if it doesnt drop a piece i dont need?"), have conduit pieces drop from the dungeons and raids that will increase for example your execute dmg by 5%. Adding blood elfs and draeneis is also a direct upgrade to the game, especially for mega servers since if you want to play a shaman but horde faction is locked due to the 50/50 balancing, you cant. But if blood elfs and draeneis exist, that issue wont exist. I also love the starting zone for blood elfs. Might as well add Echo isles without all the cataclysmic stuff so that trolls have an actual starting zone (i believe gnomes dont have their own starting zones too in vanilla-wotlk). But keep the training dummies so that you can practice your rotation (cant train weapon skill on them or nothing else just used to practice pve/pvp rotation).
People joke on runescape but Jagex did right with old school runescape. Started off as we remembered and loved then they gave it actually new content. Not updating it with updates from the past. Also the community has gotten to vote on everything new that comes into the game basically. They should of done something similar with classic wow but instead thry just gave you guys expansions you already had.

The servers can't even function with more than a 100 players in one area anyways So what is the reason for the lack of game modes? When they finally caved and announced classic official servers, I was happy. I never liked classic. Vanilla WoW was the most boring and broken. I have fond memories of it but is the memory because of the game version or because it was my first venture into this world? Due to the nature of MMOs, these aren't games that can just exist in perpetuity as we remembered them. The novelty will wear off. I thought about going back especially to Wrath Classic since that was my golden age. The best guild I ever was in, we were top 10 man guild on my server (horde side at least), they were amazing people, I was with my fiance and my best friend. But, all of that is gone now. Nothing that inherently made those times special are still there. Even if I was still with my ex, and I could get everyone back, it still wouldn't be the same, because it's not about emulating what was. You can't recapture the past. The relaunches were a good way for new blood to experience the game that way, but all things must come to an end. Vanilla, TBC, Wrath, they can't just perpetually exist. Once you've run Naxx, Sunwell, and Icecrown into the ground, what else is there? Maybe it's different for PVPers, but world PVP seemed to be the most shining feature, and in time people will stop playing. It's a hard fix, because if you want to keep player engagement, you need new content, or a rotation. However, due to the nature of it being an MMO, having things reset seasonally is not super appealing since you'll just be putting investment into your character for it to go into the trash. Progressing down the old chronology seemed like the play, 1-2 years of each, still faster than prior, but at that point you are again running into the problem that the video covers. Where does it stop? Do you just do Vanilla, TBC and Wrath then go back? Now you have dead end characters and retention drops. I feel like classic players are desperately clinging to that feeling they once had, and sadly aren't going to be able to recapture. Honestly, I really liked MoP Remix. That's of course a very arcadey way of going back to a prior time, but I think it worked very well. I doubt that will ever scratch vanilla players itches if they did it for other expansions, but the problem has so many facets it's hard to pin down. Maybe Blizz should just sanction private servers, license it out and rotationally promote new ones. People can pick what they want, though naturally you'd have smaller player bases, so that really doesn't fix it. There really isn't a fix that balances all the things the game needs to feel as good as it can. You need players, you need to be faithful, but you also need content and progression, but you can't go crazy cause then you mess up balance, but you can't do nothing because then people get bored and well, less players.
Since i made 5000gold in Tbc on my rogue and got the epic fly mount I never loged back into the game, the most fun i had in wow was while ranking in vanilla classic, now I moved on to full loot pvp games like Albion, EVEonline and MortalOnline2 witch i roate when Im stale, it alway makes me fell like I on the endge winning or loosing, I wanted to come back to Wrath calssic but it was meh, SOD same, If the bring back Vanilla maybe I will come back, till then good luck, Im still watching your videos even Im not playing wow 🤓

TBH guild wars is a fire MMO. I am totally aware I am biased as Guild Wars 1 is my childhood, but still. The stories and the worldbuilding is really special in that series. Say whatever you want about NCsoft and it's ilk, GW is made with a lot of love even to this day.

Imagine rushing out everyone to endgame at 300% speed with ridiculously OP abilities from the get-go when the whole point of what made vanilla a timeless classic is the long, epic journey through Azeroth, starting super weak and each step growing a little bit in power, which is what makes it super satisfying. SoD has been a huge bummer since phase 1.

I just don't understand why people continue to play SoD while complaining for months on end about it.
Because there's not much else left for a classic WoW addict. Like he said in the video you only have Cataclysm to chose from outside of vanilla and a lot of classic enjoyers aren't into that, then there's hardcore which isn't everyones cup of tea and doesn't lend itself to endgame content too well or ERA servers which tend to have fewer players and/or inflated economies.

I would honestly be okay with Blizzard starting fresh with vanilla, then going to TBC, then to Wrath, then wiping the servers and starting all over again. Doing this on, say, a 3 year cycle for eternity would be my favorite. The hype for vanilla would be super strong by the time Wrath finished each time around.
That or a real classic+, but who know if that is ever gonna happen. Considering how Blizzard is running the various versions of classic right now, I dunno if I'd even trust them to make a classic+ game without spoiling it via WoW Tokens or other microtransactions.
Like it or not, the original vanilla/TBC/Wrath devs are gone and unfortunately we are stuck with the whims and ideas (or lack thereof) of the current WoW classic dev team. SoD had some interesting ideas, but as Azamous said, much of the "new" things are just Wrath or retail concepts crammed into vanilla.
I'd give just about anything for Blizzard to even forego MoP and go back for a relaunch of vanilla. I know lots of people like MoP, but every time I think back to its talents system and the pandas' faction-less nature, I can't help but feel we lost the classic identity (though in my opinion once the world changed in Cata it wasn't classic by any stretch of the imagination.)
Try TurtleWoW... seriously.. I can't praise it enough. 1 layer, classic experience. Players are everywhere, it feels alive and thriving. Auction house is not broken. Talent trees are reworked. Many other little things.

I don't understand why Blizzard doesn't take some inspiration from OSRS... Why not make Classic be community driven? I have a perfect name for it: Classic+ where Blizzard makes a poll on potential changes they think could be cool for the game and the community can vote on it?? Even let the community contribute with their own ideas!
Because at every step of the multiple decades of WoW's development they have acted like they know better than the playerbase. Why would that change now.
They definitely couldn't go fully in the direction of player-voting unfortunately, but they could get partway there.
What I mean is that for things like class-balancing, the introduction of new abilities, racial-balancing and faction-balancing, the community would (for the most part) vote for whatever suits their own interests. Runescape avoids this issue because every base player is exactly the same, there are no factions, classes or races to work with.
That said, I think for things like what content to add that all players can access, a voting system would be a great addition.

Boy I cant way for Shadowlands SoD Classic! Jokes aside, I agree 100%: Classic is the original trilogy in my eyes. I know a lot of people didn't seem to enjoy WoTLK the 2nd time around as much, but I definitely did and had the most fun there. Although I did miss out a lot on TBC Classic due to other things going on so I hope they bring that back as I would love to experience it properly.
TBC was the lesser of the 3 but had a pretty stable population, it was generally pretty good and I had a lot of fun with it. Unlike in WOTLKC there were people still levelling about in the open world but it wasn't so busy that you were in active competition. At max people were running multiple different raids despite them not being current.

Honestly I really disagree after playing ESO (very similiar, gear isn't really ever outdated). I feel like you loose a lot of the RPG progression that MMOs have.
I tried like 10 levels in GW2 and gameplay wise I really liked it from the little I played, I'm just not as invested in the lore as the first 3 wow games. Gameplay wise though I'd definitely play that over WOW.
@leafarasta4517 Shining through half-knowledge? Strikes have replaced raids between Path of Fire and Janthir Wilds and Dungeons were abandoned for fractals, which act as mini dungeons and from which WoW took their M+ concept.

@@theoutlander1411 GW2 has way better lore in terms of questing and leveling. You literally have a personal story questline that builds your character within the world and ties you into the lore of the game? Level is genuinely one of the best aspects of GW2.
I always thought the concept of a "Cata Classic" was really weird since for me, the "Classic" era ended with the Cataclysm as it permanently changed Azeroth. As for me, I don't really need a MoP Classic as WoW Remix: Mists of Pandaria gave me a really good fix of MoP content and I had plenty of fun running through all the old dungeons, scenarios just fine.

I think at this point they could honestly keep one server for each expansion (maybe two, PVE, PVP). They could still release them sequentially, but once the next expansion comes along, you have the choice of staying where you are, or moving to the next expansion (similar to like they did with Classic and the TBC launch, but hopefully without the cost). If you then decide 6 months down the line you're ready to move along, you choose to move your character along to the next expansion. Would be ideal for any completionists out there that want to "finish" an expansion before moving along no matter what pace they move at. And players like yourself could effectively keep a TBC character forever.
I am sure they will monetize it by allowing people to jump straight into any expansion they like with a level boost. But having the option to work your way up through the expansions as well would be pretty awesome.
I would enjoy playing Legion again. Don't think I would want to go through WOD to get there. And I could maybe hang around there enough to get a Legendary this time. I never got one before BFA came out. Being able to create a new Legion character and just play that expansion would be neat.

I think a fix to the wsg and ab issue would be to add a vendor similar to the reals vendor where you can turn in the wsg and ab marks for pvp centric gear. Also getting some more new items to the stv vendor would be a good change.

But I've been playing since beta, and I can say with 100% certainty that it's the most player-friendly MMO on the market with one of the best communities. Anyone who can get past the non-tab-targetting combat system/style will love it.

@@kuntkunt-iy2rz in common MMO parlance, "tab targeting" refers to the non-action combat systems like WoW, SWTOR, EverQuest, etc. An incorrect differentiation, but it's what we came up with back in the day and it stuck. GW2 has tab-targetting as a function, but it's not considered a tab-targetting MMO.
My hope is after cata they stop moving classic in the same direction. What I'd like to see is fresh classic that's similar to SoM in that it's a faster 1 year cadence but with minimal changes from 2019 classic otherwise, then transition to a classic+ after with new raids, quests, gear, and dungeons but doesn't hugely change the class balance. After that transition to classic BC again, then a BC+. Well that's a long shot, but it would be cool.
The biggest point made is definitely what "Classic" means to people. From what i can tell for alot it just means "old content" not really the older style of game or original trilogy.
To me anything with micro-transactions, LFD, LFR, CRZ just aint it. There's definitely some changes needed for the sake of QoL and taming the "modern audience" but ultimately "Classic" benefits most from struggling not instant gratification. The modern content in Retail is actually very cool! but the foundations of the game including those things i listed just turn me off of it.
Nobody wants to actually spend 30 minutes+ running to a dungeon but it puts players in the perspective to appreciate things like mounts, summons, and ports. Nobody wants to spend 30+ minutes looking for people manually for a group, but this makes players more patient with dungeons instead of leaving after 1 wipe or kicking somebody because they made a mistake and you can replace them with a 5 minute que. It encourages making friends and joining guilds for the sake of making groups easier.
There is definitely the crowd that likes these instant gratification mechanics, but the thing is that's what retail has been shaped for, thats literally the game you want.

I kind of see why it would be a problem to make a server for each expansion of the golden trilogie, I mean look at era, there’s what maybe 2-3 servers having a healthy population ? Imagine if we split it even more for wrath and tbc..
I see why people want to see it happen but objectively it would be almost impossible to find people in there and so blizzard thinks it’s not worth paying for exclusive servers
I think the biggest problem with all versions of World of Warcraft is the developers literally just don't know what to do OR what they are doing and why.
They should do what Old School Runescape does, and poll the playerbase with an in game koisk or something that has what they want to do or what thing should they do and have actual players in game who are playing the game cast votes on what they feel they want from the developers.
This is a simple thing Old School Runescape did that kinda worked well. It wasn't perfect, nothing is. But it was better than JaGeX giving the players what they thought they wanted but they didn't want.

Poll the community and say "Should we remove Looking For Raid?" "Should we go back to 1 raid difficulty?" "Should we balance and reward PvP more?".

They had those "Community Council" members on the forums which was super vague and weird to be picked into the "council" to represent the community and it was a total shit show and a failure.
It really bothers me that Blizzard Devs there now just keep making the same mistakes.
But the grander issue is, they continue to make mistakes but aren't punished financially for it. They should be.
If like 80% of the playerbase leaves, like with what happened in Warlords of Draenor, that means we get things like Legion happen.
For SoD they focused super hard on class abilities & redesigning old areas when what everyone wanted was new areas, places to explore, dungeons, raids, enjoyable PvP, new race/class combos, and maybe even playable races.
It's more or less Retail in Classic. Rather than Classic with new experiences. I dropped in P3 & don't intend to return.
They wont do mists classic. They just did remix. Which is what they will do for the following expansions onward. Wod remix etc... all we can hope is that cataclysm classic becomes a launcher for tbc/wrath/cata servers, and classic wow stays its own thing with classic plus/seasonal options
I'm sticking with Cata for the time being... I guess we are at a point where classic simply means -not retail- . I frankly would love to move through all the expansions at an accelerated rate. But I do think the ultimate goal of blizzard should be to have 1 mega server for every expansion. I think SOD was a mistake and i think Mop Remix was a slap in the face... I hope they get their priority straight and focus on executing the basics correctly instead of the horrible state of launch we had for Cata classic...
I wouldnt mind for there to be MOP Era servers for example, but its not really classic. To be honest it would be nice if there were servers for each expansion so anyone would choose what fits them best.

I have the same opinion that for me Vanilla, TBC and Wotlk is Classic (its the golden Era) and its a shame that blizzard don't give us the possibility to play TBC and Wotlk anymore. What makes me even more upset, is the fact that they don't even need to develop this versions since they already did it but we still cant play it anymore. They just have forgotten why this movement from classic started at all.
I hope that even if its not coming out soon that we have a better roadmap for the future of Classic.

You're not going to convince me that planning the Worldsoul Saga is easier than telling classic players what the planned future is going to be. Even if their plans are met with backlash from the players, it could lead to them pivoting their direction in a more positive way, but at the very least it lets the community actually discuss the future as opposed to us just wondering whats going on.
I want to believe that a lot of the retail-esque design of SoD is for the sake of experimentation but whose to say they don't just stick with it. If Classic+ plays like SoD then I worry about its future, and if I don't have sustainable ways to play the golden trilogy in that scenario what am I meant to do?
Classic Era, TBC, WotlK needs a fresh cycle with era servers left behind and Classic+ needs to pivot from the direction SoD is in

This is how i would do classic if i was blizzard. First i would start with 3 realms ,a tbc a ,vanilla and Wotlk realm.. When the final patch of every expansion is played enough, I would make 3 new realms, and name the fist realms legacy realms. At the end of every cycle all characters would transfer to the legacy realms and we could play classic wow forever and ever.
TBH, Wrath is in many ways closer to Cata than it is to Vanilla.
So crazy that new Expansion for GW2 cost only 25€ that's some great friendly price :O

Man, do classic "reboot" but launch classic, tbc, and wotlk at once .. do it with lvl 60 cap and maybe the SoD abilities, but classic skill trees for sure. All the Raids in Flex mode (9-30ppl. like in retail) and just launched step by step.
On the topic of "wut classic be?" - Like you I originally thought of the first 3 wow releases as textbook classic definition, but after going through all 3 again I must admit WotLK seems like the biggest turn in the game features towards what retail is today. Dont get me wrong I absolutely LOVED how fluid my Warrior felt in arena matches all of wrath but for the PvE side I was more or less over doing the weekly lockout for fun about mid way through the like 20(?) week Ulduar phase and only attended for the gear upgrades needed for Arena competition and by the time ICC released I CBA to even run it a single time just from how different it feels to raid in wrath compared to TBC/Original.
The only feature in TBC that I found myself indifferent towards was basically everyone's #1 nag about it - introduction of Flying mounts, actually now I realise I have 2 things TBC did that I'm justy not that wild about, flying and how it was the start of where each expansion funneled all players to a single area/city and made all previous game areas a sort of near ghost town cause everyone was afking in Shatt on their flying mounts.

for me, sod just came way to late, it should have been there 1-2months after nax was cleared(classic-vanila). Thats why I didn't even bother playing SoD, cuz it was obvious from the get-go, that blizzard will make it unfinished - basically SoD is Alpha for Classic+ and when they make Classic+ we will be playing PTR
I am currently not playing WoW jn any capacity, and it sucks. That was my hobby. My time to myself. Nothing currently available interests me and no i dont want to play other games. Tbc or wrath fresh would be so refreshing. And make it an era server dammit

Pvp is bad in SoD because of the community; PvP was unbalanced in every vanilla patch, but there was no community creating super optimised builds

For me is classic - Vanilla, TBC, WotLK, Cata, MoP after this WoW becomes a modern MMO. You can ask the community if this is true but most of them tell you the same that WoD was the modern era from WoW.
IMO classic is anything prior to Activision purchasing Blizzard (Vanilla to Mid/Late Wrath). I wish they would have like 1 mega server for each Vanilla/TBC/Wrath Era (Probably PVE to not turn off casuals). As for Cata, i think the pvp is fun but the raids are too hard for many casuals, unpopular opinion but i think they should offer a option to turn on/off the nerfed versions of the raids so sweaty people can prog and casuals can still play.
All these wow flavor options and I still let my sub expire yesterday.
Yeah the magic has been leaking away. It just all feels like they are phoning it in. DF/War Within is garbage, they dropped the ball with SoD, and Cata is boring and irrelevant. I played SoD till my guild quit in p3 after the delay announcement. There hasn't been a reason to play any version since. TBC/Wrath wouldn't change anything imo.
They need to bring 1 mega server for TBC, and Wrath.
Follow that by designing sod with real *new* content. like all the raids that should have been. They gave us a dungeon, give us a raid. Tanaris... Furbolg area in Azshara, etc.
Since SoD pvp content is dead I just play MoP PvP private server everyday and raidlog for once a week in SoD. And I quit cata raiding a loong time ago with no interest in future content until 5.X. REALLY hope they pull the break and focus on "the future of classic aka Classic+" and whilst doing so re-release 2019 classic. PM me if you need any help.

My love for WoW ended with Wrath for me, I loved TBC so much, I never played classic, I play retail but I'm struggling with leveling/playing the new expansion, I didn't like dragon isles, I liked Shadow Lands, I liked BFA. I quit in Cata, I returned nearly 10years later in BFA, I miss the game that was TBC, wearing greens and blues into Kara, just the attunment to enter Kara was tough but fun. I loved black temple so much, i'm babbling, I just miss TBC.
Just make it a sesonal thing. A rotation between Vanilla, BC and WOTLK, 6 months each, exp boost to make it so most people don't spend most of that time only leveling and that's it. 6 months over? Characters are migrated to the "main" classic branch and you can continue from there if you so desire. Oh your favorite xpac is BC but Vanilla is up atm? Just wait a while and you'll start it fresh with everyone else. I'm actually surprised that this wasn't done already.
Only way I get back into wow classic is that they have just a wow classic tbc server. Once death knights come into the game it just dies to me
I wouldn't wish being a Classic WoW PvP enjoyer on my worst enemy. Letdown after letdown has to be getting old by now.
Adding extra levels each expansion killed the game since it would make the past content irreleveant, basically downgrading the game. Instead when they do classic+ they should take alot of assets from TBC and WOTLK and just put it into the vanilla world, like how an expansion should've been. Hellfire peninsula instead of being a 58-70 zone will be 48-60 zone. This way, all the vanilla content will stay relevant whilst also satisfying the TBC and WOTLK enjoyers. Maybe for the dungeons and raids, since there will be a bunch at that point (vanilla, tbc and wotlk), have them in a rotation. Or if mega servers work like what was announced, you might not need to rotate them. Change the loot tables of the dungeons and raids too to make them all relevant ("why would i run that dungeon if it doesnt drop a piece i dont need?"), have conduit pieces drop from the dungeons and raids that will increase for example your execute dmg by 5%. Adding blood elfs and draeneis is also a direct upgrade to the game, especially for mega servers since if you want to play a shaman but horde faction is locked due to the 50/50 balancing, you cant. But if blood elfs and draeneis exist, that issue wont exist. I also love the starting zone for blood elfs. Might as well add Echo isles without all the cataclysmic stuff so that trolls have an actual starting zone (i believe gnomes dont have their own starting zones too in vanilla-wotlk). But keep the training dummies so that you can practice your rotation (cant train weapon skill on them or nothing else just used to practice pve/pvp rotation).
People joke on runescape but Jagex did right with old school runescape. Started off as we remembered and loved then they gave it actually new content. Not updating it with updates from the past. Also the community has gotten to vote on everything new that comes into the game basically. They should of done something similar with classic wow but instead thry just gave you guys expansions you already had.
They are dividing their own player base and it’s beyond silly.

Dividing the playerbase? Because you need a million players on 1 version of the game? The servers can't even function with more than a 100 players in one area anyways

When they finally caved and announced classic official servers, I was happy. I never liked classic. Vanilla WoW was the most boring and broken. I have fond memories of it but is the memory because of the game version or because it was my first venture into this world? Due to the nature of MMOs, these aren't games that can just exist in perpetuity as we remembered them. The novelty will wear off. I thought about going back especially to Wrath Classic since that was my golden age. The best guild I ever was in, we were top 10 man guild on my server (horde side at least), they were amazing people, I was with my fiance and my best friend. But, all of that is gone now. Nothing that inherently made those times special are still there. Even if I was still with my ex, and I could get everyone back, it still wouldn't be the same, because it's not about emulating what was.
You can't recapture the past. The relaunches were a good way for new blood to experience the game that way, but all things must come to an end. Vanilla, TBC, Wrath, they can't just perpetually exist. Once you've run Naxx, Sunwell, and Icecrown into the ground, what else is there? Maybe it's different for PVPers, but world PVP seemed to be the most shining feature, and in time people will stop playing.
It's a hard fix, because if you want to keep player engagement, you need new content, or a rotation. However, due to the nature of it being an MMO, having things reset seasonally is not super appealing since you'll just be putting investment into your character for it to go into the trash. Progressing down the old chronology seemed like the play, 1-2 years of each, still faster than prior, but at that point you are again running into the problem that the video covers. Where does it stop? Do you just do Vanilla, TBC and Wrath then go back? Now you have dead end characters and retention drops.
I feel like classic players are desperately clinging to that feeling they once had, and sadly aren't going to be able to recapture. Honestly, I really liked MoP Remix. That's of course a very arcadey way of going back to a prior time, but I think it worked very well. I doubt that will ever scratch vanilla players itches if they did it for other expansions, but the problem has so many facets it's hard to pin down.
Maybe Blizz should just sanction private servers, license it out and rotationally promote new ones. People can pick what they want, though naturally you'd have smaller player bases, so that really doesn't fix it. There really isn't a fix that balances all the things the game needs to feel as good as it can. You need players, you need to be faithful, but you also need content and progression, but you can't go crazy cause then you mess up balance, but you can't do nothing because then people get bored and well, less players.

Since i made 5000gold in Tbc on my rogue and got the epic fly mount I never loged back into the game, the most fun i had in wow was while ranking in vanilla classic, now I moved on to full loot pvp games like Albion, EVEonline and MortalOnline2 witch i roate when Im stale, it alway makes me fell like I on the endge winning or loosing, I wanted to come back to Wrath calssic but it was meh, SOD same, If the bring back Vanilla maybe I will come back, till then good luck, Im still watching your videos even Im not playing wow 🤓

I wish Blizzard would open TBC and Wrath servers for the fans of said expansions.
just give us fresh every 2 years and everyone is happy. Like literally the private server folks have been doing that for years. Everyone was ok with it. Why is blizzard trying to give a taste of retail to a totally different audience.
if they will make classic plus in UE5 that might work.
