- We're starting on a tiny home build on our farm! With a busy year of guests coming to see us we need more space, so we're embarking on one of our biggest projects yet! After Christmas in Zimbabwe it's absolutely incredible to see the change in the seasons as winter sets in in Northern Portugal, but we're not here for long as we set off to explore northern Italy with some new friends...

On and off, we have been traveling for over 20 years and have explored more than 160 of the world's 193 countries, it’s been quite a journey, and now we are sharing our adventures weekly here on UA-cam with new episodes EVERY SUNDAY.
BE BRAVE - THINK BIG - EXPLORE
Because we believe that lines across a map are more important than numbers in the bank.
Thanks so much for watching!!!
For the shadow : hosta plant, ferns, heuchera (plenty of colours) astilbe, narcissus, tulips, grass plants, primula, begonia, fuchsia... You can also make composition with some shrubs hydrangea, rhododendron, mahonia, lonicera, buxus, camelia...
You cam make Eden Garden from this edge 😊. I hope you will enjoy the plant in all seasons and have a harmony with mother nature...
Be happy lovely family 🙏☺️
Thanks so much for the suggestions Oxana, we are so appreciate of your support! 🌷🌻🏡🇵🇹
Great ideas perennials are the best ....🌹🥀💐
all the plants that I would suggest as well, beautiful 😍
Impatiens hawkeri too for actual bright low blooms that lovebthe shade and brighten it up with strong colors!
Great suggestions here many of which I was going to suggest myself! Heuchera is a real favorite green perennial that comes in leaf colors from deep violet, to brick reds, creme brûlé and juicy neon greens and look the most fantastic planted in groups of the same color to create pools of color from a distance! Grouping your colors together and heights in at least one or two running or square meters of the same color, height or simply same plant will make all the difference to create a really opulent winding garden bed that looks cohesive and beautifully landscaped, as well as making weeding much easier! You don't need to plant more densely than a foot apart between plants. They will fill out as they grow and many can be split after the first year to get two plants from the first, which will save you lots of money, so buying proper plants for the first season but fewer is the way to go!
Besides you can always add in seasonal flowers and plant bulbs that fill out any gaps and crrate variation. But for the base I'd certainly go with these suggestions and look at the amazing palette available in leafy varieties like alunroot, hosta etc. The impatiens make a beautiful edge border of bright colored flowers with dark green foliage and keep on giving as they are perennials and grow both in shade to half sunny conditions without fuss.
There's plenty of plants and flowers in the violet colors spectrum for shade and they all attract pollinators. A lovely flower that doesnt need support, grows very tall perfect for the background of a shaded flowerbed (150 cm at least) but is also delicate not chunky is Talictrum "Anne". It's also a good choice for wooded areas, beautiful graceful violet ackleja flowers. There are tons of Rugosa roses that grow fast to bushes and hedges with very little maintenance exept cutting them back each year, that are incredibly fragrant bright roses that bllom from spring to autumn and give lots of pretty and tasty red fruit for jam (and soup very popular cold or hot with some whipped cream here in Scandinavia, natural source of vitamin C, antioxidant and improves joint health). These are something to consider for areas half shaded where you want something decorative to fill out that really has a glorious fragrance, so also nice on the north side of a house!
Bees and butterflies love them!
There's a ton of geraniums of the fragrant kind that only has tiny blooms to chose from for shade. The leaves are also fantastic to make fragrant sugar, baked goods and pot pourri and loved by polinators.
If I were you I might consider some decorative shrubs here an there in the long bed. To add some forms and body in the backdrop. There are varieties with beautiful bright colored stems that also add texture and color off season.
Lastly wild strawberries. The wild woodland varieties love the shade and although the berries are tiny they pack double the flavour and spread on their own! If you can get your hand on these in Portugal by as many as you can to plant in any odd areas of the farm, also in rocky and sloping areas, they just keep spreading year after year, take no tending at all and are great for children who will find safe little gems to uncover all season.
@@TheNewbysthis was great advice, see my other reply for more ideas! 😊
I love to see how patient John is when working with Cruiso and allowing him to participate. That's the best way for children to leatn
Thanks Donna ❤️❤️❤️
Push little Cruso around inside the wheelbarrow - my biggest treat as a kid. Sending love from South Africa 🇿🇦
Oh he would love that Annelie, Thanks so much for watching friend 😊❤️🙏🏼🇵🇹
Re Italy... Sara & Luca and Nicki & Carlo from Nicki Positano. Possibly Julie & Luke from Mappleton at their Italian home?
One of my fond memories too Annelie 🌸
@Maria D'Ange possibly Nicki & Carlo as they were just at Mapperton.
Sawyer has grown so quickly & those stunning big blue eyes, wow. Crusoe is losing his baby fat & is getting that little boy look, so cute. So good to see you all looking so happy … cheers Noeline.😊
Thank you Noeline, you are too kind. Both boys are growing up so quickly ❤️❤️❤️
Just love the life lessons you are passing onto your children. Crusoe is a shining star.😊
Thanks so much Colleen ❤️❤️❤️
Yay - my two favorite UA-cam couples together!!!
Yay! We can't wait to share that adventure with you next week Tammy ❤️❤️❤️
Happy Sunday morning to my favorite Portugal family ❤️ I, too, am having my coffee and staying warm. Carouso has become such a chatty little guy. Isn’t it great that he can have so many conversations with himself! How thrilling that the spring is running again! Hydrangeas and Hostas would be fabulous in the new beds surrounding the grass lawn. Since you’re going to run electricity down there, you could run string, lights, or patio lights on the grapevine supports and between the granite pillars.
Italy!! Can’t wait!
Happy Sunday Darrin. Thanks so much for watching friend, we will definitely see if we can find some hydrangeas and hostas for that area 🌷🌻🏡🇵🇹
Probably the best word for little house is casita
Thank you friend ❤️
Love the way you let Cruso help you, he's going to grow into a fine young man, your parenting skills are fantastic & you should be so proud of yourselves x
Thank you Beverley ❤️❤️❤️
My daughter built a tiny house and I also have one. We love it. We have downsized several times to fit everything.
We can't wait to get started on ours. Great to hear that you love it 🏡😊
Love watching son and dad interact. Caruso is adorable! Beautiful family
He absolutely loves helping his dad Nancy. Thanks so much for watching friend 😊❤️🙏🏼🇵🇹
Love that little Crusoe is saying 'ja' and 'yeah'. My son does both too with parents from different countries it's always interesting to see what kids pick up.
Can't wait to see the renovation starting!
He is getting cuter by the day friend, Thanks so much for watching 😊❤️🙏🏼🇵🇹
What an adorable kids you have....a joy to see Crusoe going around every week; love it!
Ah that is so kind Anjali, thanks so much ❤️❤️❤️
5:27 Such a pretty sight....this beautiful strong man (sorry, John is my type) with the beautiful sweet little one.
Thanks Estee! You have great taste 😉 Thanks so much for watching ❤️🇵🇹
Crusoe needs his own equipment for the garden ! ❤️
That is a great idea Andrea 😊🙏🏼❤️
All the brambles are gone - this is so so satisfying... Well done guys. Your farm looks amazing!
Thanks so much friends! We are so appreciate of your support 😊❤️🙏🏼🇵🇹
Hey Newbys Enjoyed watching your video again this week. Can't get over how much Crusoe and Sawyer are growing. I can see how much Crusoe enjoys helping out around the farm.
I think hydrangeas, impatiens and lavender would look lovely in the new gardens. They are easy plants to grow in Australia and very easy to look after.
Looking forward to your Italian vlog with Heather and Brsdey from Raising Voyagers next week.
Hi Sandra. Our boys are growing up so quickly! Getting cuter by the day. Thanks so much for your suggestions, we love the sound of hydrangeas and lavender! We can't wait to share that adventure with you next week! Sending you lots of love ❤️❤️❤️
You’re very rich family with this beautiful and cute kids. I impressed how hard you work.❤❤❤
We work extremely hard to live the life that we do Bonnie. Having a UA-cam channel is not easy but it is definitely worth it. Thanks so much for watching friend ❤️🇵🇹
Beautiful! Such an amazing place. Inspiring to see you all work so hard and enjoy the farm.
Thank you April, we absolutely love it on the farm! So many exciting things happening 😊❤️🙏🏼🇵🇹
Woo, that kitchen view is gonna pop off in the spring after you guy's play around with the garden scaping
We can't wait! Thanks so much for watching friend 😊❤️🙏🏼🇵🇹
Wonderful to see Crusoe outdoors, enjoying nature and making his own fun and not endlessly tethered to an electronic device or television. Bravo Newbys the place looks fabulous.
Thanks so much Denise, we are so appreciate of your support 🏡😊🇵🇹❤️
Host as & Heucaras (sp?) Snowdrops, Dutchman’s Britches, and maybe Borage, Violets & Pansies of course, maybe Hyacinths. Have fun!
Thanks Bett 🌷🌻🏡🇵🇹
You guys are my heroes, doing anything with a toddler tagging along is a tall order. You’re all doing such an amazing job ❤
Thanks so much Lubab ❤️❤️❤️
Wow that extra room will be a nice addition 😁 I honestly didn't ever see stairs going up the side of the house
That preview is hilarious 😂👏
We can't wait to get started on that project Angie. We can't wait to share our Italian adventure with you on Sunday. Thanks so much for watching friend 😊❤️🙏🏼🇵🇹

Welcome back guys. Loved seeing your trip to SA. A new and exciting year at the farm. Can’t wait.
Thanks so much for watching Jeanette! We can't wait to share all these exciting projects with you 😊❤️🙏🏼🇵🇹
Good plants for under trees include Camellia japonica ‘ Viburnum davidii, Fuchsia magellanica var. molinae, Fritillaria meleagris and Iris foetidissima.Good plants for dry shade include Lamium maculatum ‘White Nancy’, Dryopteris affinis ‘Angustata Crispa’, Viburnum tinus, Sarcococca confusa, Asplenium scolopendrium ‘Angustatum’.
Thanks so much for all your suggestions Julia 🌷🌻🏡🇵🇹
You are such good role models for your children
Thanks Sidsel, that is very kind of you to say. Thanks so much for watching 😊❤️🙏🏼🇵🇹
Use the wine to maranade meat if it doesn't rate too high. If it rains the nutrients from your compost can be washed away b4 you plant your seedlings 🌱 🍃The leaf mulch would be better to let it break down and use it in summer around your plants so it will give them nutrients and stop evaporation from the bare earth so you don't waste the water you use.
Great idea, thanks so much DR! Great to hear from you friend, we are so grateful for your support! 🍷😊❤️🙏🏼🇵🇹
Good morning Newby family! What a beautiful day on the farm! I just love seeing all the progress/plans! Crusoe is adorable-living his best life! Hugs to Crusoe & Sawyer! Take care! 💜🙏🥰
Good morning Teresa, thank you! Crusoe loves helping John with all the projects on the farm, whether that is indoors or outdoors. Crusoe and Sawyer send lots of hugs back to you ❤️❤️❤️
I would plant azaleas. They come in different colors so you could create a palette of the varying colors. One draw back is that they only bloom once a year in spring but oh, what a beautiful sight. I am enjoying your videos especial watching Caruso being a boy. Living in Southern CA where most of the kids faces are plastered to some sort of electronic device it's very refreshing to watch a young son enjoy working with his dad in the outdoors.
Thanks Joe, we love the sound of that. Thanks so much for watching friend 🌷🌻🏡🇵🇹
Watched this episode 3 times. My blood pressure is reduced I have a huge smile and tears n my eyes listening to your Toddler. A breath of fresh air your family is. I assist the elderly and we now have 11 ladies watching your blog with me. We chat for hours about the boys, Africa,Spain, farming , renovating, fruit trees and how wonderful live is when your life is ahead . Thank you cheers
Your comment put a big smile on our faces Marjorie, thank you! That is so special. Please send all of our love and lots of hugs to those special ladies. we are so appreciate of all your support ❤️❤️❤️
Why Sain?
Spain
In the US, Impatiens is the best annual for color in shade, gorgeous blooms spring to fall in zone 6. Orange, pink, red, it's a ground cover about a foot tall.
Thanks so much Polly 🌷🌻🏡🇵🇹
Hello welcome home! 😘
Portugal looks magical with the sun rays peeping through the branches, a drop of water falling from a leaf etc. So many new adventures and Crusoe is ready to assist!
I can’t wait to see your friends in Italy. I went to Tuscany in the summer of 2022 and I wonder what area your friends are from. Until next week! 😃
Hi Renalda, we have the assistant ready to help with any project! Thanks so much for watching. See you next week friend ❤️❤️❤️
For the north of the country and if it is facing east (rising sun) what I advise is large tufts of hydrangeas (hortenses in Portuguese) they grow very well there!
Thank you Joana 🌷🌻🏡🇵🇹
It was a brilliant tour from your native land and welcome back to Portugal the Newby family
Thanks so much Ann 😊❤️🙏🏼🇵🇹
I love your videos .. adorable children... The Newbys meet the Rising Voyagers
Thanks so much Judy. we are so appreciate of your support friend ❤️🇵🇹
Crusoe's haircut is just so adorable, and Sawyer is growing up so fast! The farm is truly magical and I can't wait to visit one day. John, the lawn is spectacular! Your hard work has really paid off. I am sure you had a fabulous time in Italy. I am from there and I can say that that part of the country is gorgeous. 🙂
Thank you Francesca, it wasn't an easy decision but it needed to be done! We can't wait to share our Italian adventure with you on Sunday. Thanks so much for watching friend 😊❤️🙏🏼🇵🇹
Seeds called cottage gardens a mixture of all the bubble bees love
Amazing, thanks Lynda 🌷🌻🏡🇵🇹
Oh how I love seeing the laughter on Crusoe's little face. It's so fantastic what you're doing for your family. Getting the connection for water is really good as long as they let you keep your alternate source for use. Here in the states, depending on where you live, if you hook into their system you must cap off your other source. Thank you for another glimpse into your world. WOW, Crusoe was able to figure out that granite & stone are rock. That's quite an achievement at his young age. Well done!
We are so relieved to have water again Lori! Thanks so much for watching friend 😊❤️🙏🏼🇵🇹
Lenten roses like shade and are beautiful and hardy…also known as heliabors
Thank you Lynne 🌷🌻🏡🇵🇹
P.S. from Chiapas, Mexico. I forgot to mention how awesome it is for little Crusoe to understand what rock is already. He's really getting the best information and practical skills possible. You're really good parents, because you understand that curiosity should never be stifled and that's why Crusoe's vocabulary is so rich for his age. Well done.
He is learning something new every day Michael ❤️❤️❤️
So excited about your tiny house project! The farm looks so pretty now and the lawn so nice and green! You have accomplished so much! I enjoyed your trip to Zimbabwe! The boys are just precious and I always to look forward to Sunday with the Newbys! 😊❤
Thanks so much Libby, we are so appreciate of your support friend 😊❤️🙏🏼🇵🇹
For your flower beds, I'd recommend looking at what shade-tolerant or shade-loving plants might be native to your area. The benefits are numerous! You won't have to do too much maintenance (less or no watering, for example) and they will support local wildlife such as the local bees and other pollinators.
Most flowering plants want sun, so that might be a limitation for a shady spot.
Thanks so much friend, we are so grateful for your support 🌷🌻🏡🇵🇹
Your videos always start my week off just right!
Ah thank you Pamela ❤️❤️❤️
The spring has sprung. There is nothing more relaxing than the sounds of flowing water.
Crusoe is a little chatterbox who wants to do everything his daddy is doing. What a great example he has to learn from! You and John are absolutely amazing parents.
I will be sad when it gets to hot for Sawyer to wear that adorable hat. His gorgeous blue eyes peeping out from under his hat is my favorite !
The plans you have for the farm sound wonderful, I will be following along excited to see the end results.
Enjoy your time in Italy with your friends. 🌸
We are SO relieved to have water again Irene! Thank you for all your kind words, they mean so much to us. We can't wait to share these exciting plans with you friend! Thanks so much for watching 💧🏡❤️🇵🇹
Sawyer is growing VERY fast.
He is indeed Lynne. Thanks so much for watching friend ❤️❤️❤️
Wonderful to see you all back at the farm. It’s great that you have the water back. Swayed is getting so big and Cruso is full of chat. He is at a lovely age. Keep doing what you are doing. I love your utube. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
We are SO happy to have water back Deirdre! Thanks so much for watching friend, we are so appreciate of your support ❤️❤️❤️
I noticed a camellia so they must do well there. I’d also try azaleas and hydrangeas for the background and layer with medium height perennials and bulbs and annuals in front. Make larger, sweeping curves. Look to your neighbors and around town to see what grows well there.
Thanks so much Pat 🌷🌻🏡🇵🇹
What a beautiful landscape all around the property. Little Sawyer is already grown up to be soon ready to run after Crusoe. Can't wait to see them having fun together. The tiny house will be a wonderful project to realize to encrease the magic all around. Casa pequena, best wishes to be soon able to make the adorable little kids happier and happier
Thank you Luisa. Sawyer will be running around with Crusoe soon! We can't wait to share the tiny home project with you, we are so excited to start! Sending you lots of love ❤️❤️❤️
I recognized the voice of Brady! That's fun you meet each other! I remember he talked about problem men have always loosing their tools, especially tape measure (correct?) recalling your "case"; it was already funny to hear him telling that; and now you go there (beautiful place too by the way!); it's silly but I'm quite excited! There is a lot of work to do, you will be very helpful, what a team!
The tiny house: I'm in! Love it, and I have load of ideas!
For the lawn, you could sow a mix of wild flowers...
We can lose our tools together 😂 Thanks so much for watching Vanessa. We can't wait to share Sunday's episode with you! ❤️❤️❤️
I absolutely love witnessing toddlers processing language and concepts and making those connections. It’s just so much fun. Thank you for sharing Crusoe’s journey. I have to say the very end had me laughing so hard. You guys are so silly and I love it. 💛
He is learning new words every day and creating such cute sentences Andrea. Thanks so much for watching friend 🏡😊🇵🇹❤️
Great photography!
Thanks so much Sarah, we really do try our best to give you the best quality possible 🏡😊🇵🇹❤️
Good morning, Newbys! Crusoe continues to be a good helper… I love to see him doing whatever he fancies. Sawyer is such a lovely baby… his smile is sweet. That wee guest house is going to need a lot of work… luckily, Crusoe will be there to help. See you next week❤️❤️❤️❤️
Good morning Carol, Crusoe is always there ready to help - now that he has his very own tool set - he can help John with the tiny home build haha Thanks so much for watching friend 🏡😊🇵🇹❤️
Oh, I can't wait for the next episode! Love them too!! Have fun!!
We can't wait either Deona! Thanks so much for watching friend 😊❤️🙏🏼🇵🇹
WOW! Lot's of new surprises! So many plans, I am excited! Your property is so beautiful! It was so great to start my Sunday with coffee and your vlog! Your #1 son is so much fun and quite the attention hound! So special to watch him grow! Thank you for sharing all of this with us!
Thank you Barbara, we are so excited to be sharing these projects with you soon! Our little Crusoe just loves helping us with all the projects, indoors or outdoors - he is there! Thanks so much for watching and for your constant support 😊❤️🙏🏼🇵🇹
I'd put shade tolerant plants, which aren't as colorful full sun plants
Thanks so much friend 🌿❤️🏡🇵🇹
Cruso is such a happy carefree little chap with a brand new haircut😂. A delight to watch his free spirit
He absolutely loves being on the farm friend! It is his happy place. Thanks so much for watching 🏡😊🇵🇹❤️
You guys are nuts .... enjoy Italy.
Great to hear from you friend, thanks so much for watching 😊❤️🙏🏼🇵🇹
Just arrived, you are always welcome here. The best for your family! You totally deserve. ❤
Thank you so much Jose, we are so appreciate of your support friend 😊❤️🙏🏼🇵🇹
Lovely video, and Italy next week, what fun! Go play with that boy... (Not easy to mow on a tight curve.)
Thanks so much for watching friend! See you next week 🌷🌻🏡🇵🇹
O sorriso do Crusoé foi lindo demais!!!!!
He absolutely LOVES is on the farm friend, he can't stop smiling 😊🙏🏼❤️
Wow your land is huge
Such an exciting adventure your on in Italy. Hopefully it's earner there
Eve 🎉
Thanks so much for watching Alison 🏡😊🇵🇹❤️
The best plants are local ones who can survive in any conditions .Definitely you need to see if is shady or sunny. From what we see is a bit shady. I would plant tropical plants look like calla lily , ferns , tall grass local lavender , roses are very hardy no problem at all so something like those.
Good luck 👍
Thanks so much Cristina! we are so appreciate of your support 🌷🌻🏡🇵🇹
I love Hydrangea's for my shade garden as well as skimmia ( the white blooming kind) Make sure you get male and female skimmia. Also the bees absolutely love it. Ferns are great for the rock wall as well as bleeding hearts. Oh and hosta's too for shade.
It's looking great Newbys! If you ever except WWOOF'res one day I'm in!
Thanks so much for the suggestion friend 🌷🌻🏡🇵🇹
We had some 20 yrs old wine and it was lovely,,homemade
Oh wow that sounds amazing Linda 🍷😊❤️🙏🏼🇵🇹
Good morning from a sunny South Africa. I love your lawn. With regards to plants I would consider some elephant ears to celebrate your African connection add some cala lilies in several different colors and then some small wild flowers as fillers to add additional color. I love to see how your are making your farm your own.
Thank you Freda, we are so appreciate of your support and advice 🌷🌻🏡🇵🇹
Hello from Los Angeles 😎 we have many botanical gardens in Cal. And I guess around the world maybe you can start looking at border gardens in the arboretums...or drive around where you live and look at other people's borders and see what grows best .
Thanks Dana, that is a great idea 🌿❤️🏡🇵🇹
I always look forward to watching your videos. But last week's one in Zimbabwe was exceptional! I absolutely loved it, by far your best effort yet. I was so hoping we might have seen a bit more of Zimbabwe this time but there's obviously lots more exciting things in the pipeline. Perhaps I'll just watch it again. Look forward to more adventures, so lovely to see more of wee Sawyer growing up now too, what a honey he is.
Thank you Carolyn, we appreciate reading comments like this. It was a very vulnerable video to put out there. Thanks so much for watching and for your support 🦒🦓❤️🇿🇼
You are going to visit the raising voyager …❤🎉

What do you think of Clivias, Crysanthimums, Dutch Irises, Yesterday Today and Tomorrow's, Hydrangeas, pretty Fuschias in your new shady garden John? Your lawn area is beautiful!! Love the end of this video 😆 🤣 😂 assuming that was for your January cold water shower challenge Tara?
That sounds great Louise. Thanks for the suggestion friend. Yes it was indeed the cold water shower challenge 😂
Awesome!!!!😊💕🙏🏻🇨🇦
Thanks so much friend 😊❤️🙏🏼🇵🇹
Your home is lovely. All your hard work is coming together now. Really enjoyed your visit last week where Tara grew up. Beautiful Africa. You both have lived a life filled with so many wonderful Journeys around the world. What a blessed life you have with each other and your beautiful boys.
Thank you Jean 🏡😊🇵🇹❤️
Plant Clivia in the shade of trees.
Thanks Julia 🌷🌻🏡🇵🇹
John plant some Hydrangeas. Also lovely to watch father and son working together .
Thanks Ruth, will have a look for some hydrangeas 🌷🌻🏡🇵🇹
I love the way Sawyer is watching you Tara while John holds him...he even cracked a wee smile....so cute! Crusoe is such a little man and I say that every time! Nothing like water to play in ....love it! So happy to hear you have water!!!! Your land is looking gorgeous! By the way, making a You tube with a toddler, in particular Crusoe is absolutely lovely! He adds to the story! Sure looking forward to seeing your garden grow!
Thank you Norma, he is getting cuter by the day! We are so relieved to have water again, that is one less thing for us to worry about! We are so glad you are enjoying our episodes friend. See you on Sunday ❤️❤️❤️
I can see the next movie- Harrison Ford has keys to the secret kingdom behind the door. He is fearless with his 24"cutie bear clad mini-me as his main source of protection against the unknown!
🤣 we love this Amanda! Thanks for sharing 🏡😊🇵🇹❤️
I knew it when I heard the voices! I played it over and over three times! Enjoy your trip and your new adventure! Kudos to all of you for going having the courage to go for your dreams and realize them.. In the meantime making new friends and like spirits along the way!
Thanks so much for watching Joanne ❤️🇵🇹
Regarding your new garden shade border, good on you! It will be lovely, especially as it transitions to a sunnier area with stone wall. So impressed with the curving rather than straight edge, but be sure to make the curves generous enough to create good garden scale. For the shady garden you will get lots of ideas. What do the locals plant? Primroses are short and come in lots of pretty colors. I love their leaves. Behind them you could plant astilbe, which is taller, and here in New England we would plant jack-in-the-pulpits, which children love, interspersed with various wide-leaved plants and ferns that suit your climate. On top of the walls, where there is sun, consider Cote d'azur pinks, a colorful ground cover that spreads delightfully, and it will be a nice transition to the area behind the wall. Great place for a stone urn or sculpture as well. Lucky you!
Thanks Cassandra, will make sure the lawnmower can reach between the curves. We will check in with the locals to see what they plant. Thanks for all the advice friend 🌷🌻🏡🇵🇹
I love Crusoe 🥰 he is lovely and has a strong personality too!! Sawyer is growing quickly!! They will be playing together soon. Looking forward to see them roaming around together.
Thanks so much Carmen ❤️❤️❤️
I also subscribe to your friends channel 👍🏼 look forward to seeing what you get up to
Amazing Paul, we know you are going to love their channel. Thanks so much for watching friend 😊🙏🏼❤️
So many good things, water, new tiny house, gardens the list goes on! The B roll shots of the farm were breathtaking! The lawn is a labor of love for sure and watching Crusoe helping John just warms my heart so many smiles in this end! Always making my Sundays that much better! ~Cara ❤
The list is never ending Cara 😂 but we love it like that! Seeing little Crusoe helping John in the garden just melts my heart, he is so helpful and so cute! Thanks so much for sharing your Sunday with us ❤️❤️❤️
Living that lawn área! I would go with hostas and ferns for textured and cool-toned tini flowers in spring such as forget-me-not that reseeds and covers very quickly. Some muscaris and lavender ... I can already picture that! Enjoy!
Thanks so much Gabriela, we will definitely look into those 🌷🌻🏡🇵🇹
I just adore the way you two involve Crusoe and Sawyer in your daily activities. It's so wonderful!!!
Good portuguese, Tara. Pequena (small) sounded a little like spanish 🤣 but adorable!!!🤩
Thank you Cristina, we love having him part of the process 🏡😊🇵🇹❤️
You’re going to have to invest in some child size garden tools. Crusoe is just too adorable and so keen! What lovely relationships you both have with your children.
Great idea Jade! Thanks so much for watching 🏡😊🇵🇹❤️
Lavender would be a good pollinator for the areas of the lawn/garden with dappled shade. Red valerian should do well in part shade. Alyssum (Lobularia) would be a good “spiller” ground cover to grow over the rock edges. I can’t wait to see what you do
We like the sound of that Kelly! Thanks so much for watching and for your advice 🌷🌻🏡🇵🇹
I would plant hidrangeas. They are big, amazing flowers, no maintenance and love shade. There's lots of varietys here in Portugal
Thanks Eduardo 🌷🌻🏡🇵🇹
Crusoe cracks me up too John 😂 such a gorgeous little fella ❤ Love your farm life Don’t Stop or I will be lost 😞
😂 he is getting funnier and cuter by the day Margi. Thanks so much for watching friend, we will definitely not be stopping any time soon 😊❤️🙏🏼🇵🇹
Hi guys. My suggestion for the planting nearby the lawn is : almond trees which are beautifully white and 🐝🐝🍯 love them and roses 🌹🌹🌹. Bless ya all
Hi Susy, thanks so much for your suggestion! We will definitely look into those 🌷🌻🏡🇵🇹
