I agree. He put all of himself into this song. You don't see his passion in today's music that use auto tune, and a lot of audio software. To help "fix" the performers weaknesses.
John Farnham, an australian singer did an immaculate rendition of "Help" ( live version with Melbourne symphony orchestra. The version with him wearing a white shirt) even John Lennon had congratulated him on it.
I grew up with Joe Cocker's music. He was an English singer known for his gritty, bluesy voice & dynamic stage performances that featured expressive body movements. He recorded a few Beatles' songs "With A Little Help From My Friends", "She Came In Through The Bathroom Window" & "Something". Other hits were "Up Where We Belong" (a duet with Jennifer Warnes), "Delta Lady", "Darling Be Home Soon", "Cry Me A River", "Feelin' Alright", "The Letter", "You Are So Beautiful" etc.
This was the anthem about how we all felt about our friends in the 60s and 70s ... we loved everybody, cared, and didn't judge ... somehow we lost that way of life.
Its so refreshing watching someone that finds all our treasures that we grew up with, and you really enjoy it! The Woodstock version will blow you away! Thank you!!
His live performance at the original Woodstock is still my favorite version. His covers of 'Into the Mystic' and 'You Are So Beautiful' are great also. I can't watch Joe Coker without thinking of John Belushi. Not that I expect you to know the reference (John was the original Blues Brother)
This was originally a Beatles song, sung by Ringo Starr. Joe Cocker totally took the song and made it his own. The Beatles were even in awe of what he did with their creation.
When interviewed he said that they wanted to create a Waltz. Remember the original Beatles version was a poppy 4/4, Joe absolutely transformed it with tension, gospal spiritual backing, and pain. You would be forgiven for thinking they were completely different songs. If she knew the roots of this song she would have been even more stunned, I think.
Oh, this is one of the most amazing covers of this Beatles song. I'm having memories of Joe Cocker with Mad Dogs and Englishmen. W/Leon Russell, Rita Coolidge, so many more. Good times! Thank you for being open to so much good material and wonderful reactions ❤
you really should do the woodstock version,a mid 20 year old guy comes up,and when he first did a scream, the first 3 rows of the audience got blown away
Please watch a live version of "You are so Beautiful" Actually, When it comes to Joe Cocker, always watch a live version. You have to see him sing, raw emotion
From the Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album by the Beatles written for, and sang by Ringo Star the drummer. recognised by everyone as the greatest album of all time, written by the greatest music artist of all time. 😊
Woodstock version- YES! "Up Where We Belong" with Jennifer Warren-YES! "Feelin' All Right!", "The Letter", and "You Are So Beautiful"-Yes, Yes and Yes" and his performance of "You Can Leave Your Hat On" for the movie 9 1/2 Weeks is unforgettable. Enjoy the ride! It's a great one. RIP Joe.
I HAD SO MUCH FUN WATCHING THIS WITH YOU!!!! You totally brought my day around rocking out with ya!! i'd recommend seeing his woodstock performance to see where he came from. woodstock - Jimi 😀
This was originally a Beatles song, but don't go looking for it as your first Beatles experience. Their version is much faster and done in an old fashioned "Vaudeville" style. You REALLY need to check out the Beatles, often rated as the greatest, most creative band of all time. Just when you think you've got it they change their style. Go for it Brit. :)
This song was written by the Beatles ,his live version at Woodstock was one of the best musical moments ever I sing in a band, one of the greatest moments of my life was when a lady said you sound like Joe Cocker, still one of my favorite singers, Another one you would dig is You Can Leave Your Hat On, awesome
He sings love lift us where belong great song too Joe Cocker sings too your so awesome every time you come I your so awesome everytime you come on your youtube channel.❤️👍
Joe Cocker is one of the few who made his career from doing covers of other artists. It is ironic that his keen ability to transform the works of others into something of an entirely different flavor all his own made him stand out as one of Rock-n-Rolls all time greats and a true original.
Joe Cocker was a terrific performer, a couple other live performances i think you will like are "Unchain my Heart "live in Cologne and "You can Leave your Hat on " in Rotterdam.❤️😊👍 .
This man is a legend he passed a few years ago. I saw him in concert years ago he opened for Tina Turner. He Was fantastic❤ They need to put him in the Rock Roll Hall Of Fame like yesterday. You Are So Beautiful is another great song and so many others you just jumped down the rabbit hole with this one that all I can say enjoy your journey with Mr. Cocker❤🔥
Joe is a freakin legend! The break down in this one is epic. This song was written by Paul McCartney and John Lennon for the Yellow Submarine album and very poorly sang by Ringo Starr. Joe turned it into a soul song and it became the theme song for Wonder Years.
Either the Woodstock version or the "The Last Waltz" version , both are from his twenties when his performances were all out give every fibre of his being to belt them out .This is a polished version of what he really was . Even the band is soft in this version .
I love how you can react to any of these videos and give us your show in return. Your so happy, positive and enertaing and I so love to see your reactions Thank You! ❤️🔥
Love the church towel! I also love the Beatles song this came from. It is a much simpler version. This performance is so fun and totally different! I love how a great song can be changed by different artists and still be amazing!
The keyboard instrument is the legendary Hammond B-3 Organ and Leslie Speaker Model 122R. There is also a Leslie Model 122 however, it does not have reverb. The original Hammond B-3 was manufactured in Chicago, IL. FROM 1955-1974. It is the Hammond model preferred by jazz and rock organ players, such as Fats Waller, Wild Bill Davis, Brother Jack McDuff, Jimmy Smith, Sonny Burke, Keith Emerson, Charles Earland, Jon Lord, Brian Auger, Steve Winwood, Procol-Harem, Santana, Joey DeFrancesco, and Barbara Dennerlein. Jimmy Smith popularized the Hammond organ, and its technique of using drawbars and pedals. Having found success in jazz, the Hammond organ became popular in rhythm and blues, including Booker T. & the M.G.'s and other Stax Records artists. The Hammond was one of the first mass-produced musical instruments which combined the electrical, mechanical and acoustic worlds-it is a keyboard instrument that could produce totally new sounds, and at the same time "imitate" other acoustic instruments. The production of electromechanical organs ceased in 1974. Thereafter, Hammond built fully electronic organs. Today, Hammond-Suzuki range of electronic draw bar organs, starting with the 2002 release of a digital B3 model that mimics the design and functions of the classic B3 (without the weight). This model, as well as newer units, can be partnered with real, mechanical, rotor speaker cabinets, also from the company. Hammond-Suzuki now manufactures organs in Elmhurst, Illinois, just outside of Chicago.
I was lucky enough to see Joe sing this song live in 1969. wow, so good. There is a movie called "The Commitments" , and in that movie a guy called Andrew Strong sings "Try a Little Tenderness" as lead singer to the band, The Commitments. Since you like Joe Cocker, you may also like this performance.
Good reaction. Definitely check the Woodstock version out. Unless someone request a specific video. I would always try to find the original recording. I know I keep saying that. But musicians deserve for us to hear a song they way they intended it to be heard. Just a thgt from me. ;)
Many people forget that is NOT a Joe Cocker song, but by the Beatles, so closely has it become associated with him. The live version from Woodstock is iconic.
There was never a stage that could handle the Line up I'd have for this Song! You got Joe, doing this as a Duet with James Brown, and backing them on Guitars, Jimi Hendricks and Prince! There isn't a Single Current Artist out there that can bring it like the Classic Rockers!
Joe toured extensively, often in out of the way places. He played here in Darwin NT Australia many times over the years. He seemed to fit in rather well in a big drinking small tropical city as remote as it gets. Thanks Joe, pleasure.
I've seen Joe live in concert about a year or two before he passed away , At casino Rama Orilla Ontario Canada! Is simply fire live!! You should react to " You Can Keep Your Hat On" Live
I love you're reactions Brit ,I'm going to have to join in and beat the Woodstock performance version drum as well ! He did that song without his back ups due to them being stuck in traffic.
Hey beautyfull!!! Good reaction. You should check the 1969 version at Woodstock. Amazing. I saw him live in Buenos Aires. Incredible!!!! Greettings from Argentina
His Woodstock version was iconic and one of the highlights. I was fortunate to see him in concert, great singer and awesome show!
Yes!
Ditto: At the Stardust in Hollywood at a Freddie King concert, joined on stage by Joe Cocker, Paul Roger and Maggie Bell.
For sure WS
One of the few covers of a Beatles song that may have surpassed the Beatles version! WS
I prefer the Mad Dogs & Englishmen performance - the call and response is way better
R.I.P. Joe Cocker. As others have mentioned, you have to do the Woodstock performance...so raw and soulful! Joe put 100% of himself into his singing.
Right, let's see her describe a young Joe Cocker as "effortless." Not going to happen.
@@chuckwilliams6261 Hahaha! Well said! It's a performance of stellar proportions!
Still a favorite…loved how his voice changed over the decades…❤️❤️❤️
@@chuckwilliams6261 …so the opposite of effortless…
It's in fact a 60's The Beatles song, sang originally by Ringo Starr.
This marvelous polished performance is beautiful BUT, you MUST view his Woodstock Live version to truly appreciate the rawness of Joe!
I was just going to say that.
I agree. He put all of himself into this song. You don't see his passion in today's music that use auto tune, and a lot of audio software. To help "fix" the performers weaknesses.
Agree!!
The only person ever to successfully cover a Beatles song. And cover it he did. This is beautiful.
well, maybe not that successfull but this also deserves some attention:

I don't trust many to do a version of Paul and John but he killed it
John Farnham, an australian singer did an immaculate rendition of "Help" ( live version with Melbourne symphony orchestra. The version with him wearing a white shirt) even John Lennon had congratulated him on it.
I loved both songs, yet it took me years to find out it's the same song! 🤪
I think the Rolling Stones did a good job with Come Together. In fact their version is played much more often than the original on radio and streams.
You have such a beautiful soul. It shines through.
And then there is his 1969 Woodstock version. 🔥 (The backup singers could not get there on time, so the band had to sing falsetto.)
Yes please react to his '69 Woodstock version of this song.
Unfortunately because his back up singers were so much better........but Joe was in his prime
@@otisyoung7061 Yes, they were a little off key.
Lost his shite in the best way…❤️
@@sahewins but the feeelllsss…😭

Joe Cocker's cover of this Beatles song was so great that it is now and has been since Woodstock known as his song.
I feel so honored to have seen Mr. Joe Cocker live several times, RIP.
He opened for the WHO and when he was done I didn’t even care about seeing the WHO…. Joe blew them out of the water !!!!
This was the anthem about how we all felt about our friends in the 60s and 70s ... we loved everybody, cared, and didn't judge ... somehow we lost that way of life.
This song was originally done by the Beatles sung by Ringo Starr. But Joe's blues rock version made it into an iconic hit.
Its so refreshing watching someone that finds all our treasures that we grew up with, and you really enjoy it! The Woodstock version will blow you away! Thank you!!

And John was also an original on Saturday Night Live.
Completely agree, but his performance on the old grey whistle test was unbelievable.
It's a thrill for me to see someone hear Joe for the first time. There's no other like him, nor will there ever be.
This was originally a Beatles song, sung by Ringo Starr. Joe Cocker totally took the song and made it his own. The Beatles were even in awe of what he did with their creation.

thanks for digging up Joe Cocker...he is gone but was certainly a bright burning star when he passed our way.

One of the greatest soul singers of all time. When asked who's the greatest soul singer Ray Charles said, Joe Cocker.
when he sings he is playing EVERY instrument in his head. Watch his hands and movements, you’ll get it !!
You nailed it but also with his hands.
l just love Joe Cocker, he is such a passionate and emotional singer. The whole band he put together is just fabulous.........
Joe did the best rendition of this Beatles song.....He has a gritty soul voice....I loved his Woodstock performance.
you really should do the woodstock version,a mid 20 year old guy comes up,and when he first did a scream, the first 3 rows of the audience got blown away
Joe's version of this song is mesmerizing ... unique voice.
Joe’s version of anything is mesmerizing.

Certainly can't see anything here..
Great version on a fantastic Beatles song!
Joe cocker is one of those boys you can’t find today
I think this is my favorite of Joe's renditions of this song. He and the song both aged very well. 🙂
As a child of the 80's, I can't hear this song without thinking of The Wonder Years🤷♂️
same, first thought I had too but sounds better to me as The Wonder Years theme song
I HAD SO MUCH FUN WATCHING THIS WITH YOU!!!! You totally brought my day around rocking out with ya!! i'd recommend seeing his woodstock performance to see where he came from. woodstock - Jimi 😀

This is a great cover of a Beatles song which Ringo originally sang. It became Joe's signature song after he performed it at Woodstock.
I love the way he sings!!! Saturday Night Live had him has a guest. He did a duet that was unforgettable with John Belusi.❤
I love the way she got 'all churched up'.
