Having spent 6 years on R1's doing the knee down thing and track days, I bought one of these after taking it for a test ride and finding a different kind of fun. I don't understand why people compare them to sports bikes. They are not sports bikes, they are cruisers and immensely awesome cruisers. I took my missus on the back all around Normandy this year and not once was the weight an issue even with luggage, and at 5' 8" I'm not a big guy. These things could tow a caravan. Spent around 9 hours a day in the saddle and never felt uncomfortable. It truly is an awesome bike. A Harley is a Harley and not something you can compare to other bikes.
I'm an aussie. I own an 2018 fat bob. I'm really short 168cm and 78kg. My arms are only 60cm. I put the harley Reach seat and the street slammer bars is so comfortable now is great with the cruise control too. I have the 107 with the torque cam. Oh wow the power and characteristics of the bike incredible now it sounds like the older Harleys. Recommend a cam for sure in the M8s.
Fred, do you know if the long neck mirrors would extend past the ends of the grips at all? I need to keep the width down so I can get the bike into my office.
@@Dragon_Shogun thanks Fred! By any chance do you know the HD part number? I can understand people wanting a more classic front light but I think it looks so mean / commanding. No complaints from me. It looks like a Sportster had a Dodge Challenger dropped onto it. This thing is mean as all hell, I hope one day I'll get to test one of these out. I hope HD will keep moving forward with the right kind of bikes to keep new riders coming to them while still maintaining their roots, only time will tell though.
I absolutely love how they pushed the envelope aesthetically while retaining a character that's unmistakably H-D. With the Sportster S and now especially the Nightster, my fear is that this Fat Bob is the last real innovation we'll ever see in their cruisers that's imbued with the MINIMALISM that is (was?) at the heart of the brand...
I bought one with 114cu 3 month ago. Its my first bike and I love it. I feel the weight somethimes but still a agile bike. the only bad thing for me is the tank with his reach. I would buy it again for sure.
Well, I would almost be banished if I pulled up on that around my buddies but I would definitely take that chance!! I really, really, love this bike! Made for riding!
Yeah same here. My buds were in the pub and I brought them out and I was in the cross hairs immediately. I have a Two Brothers Racing stage ll kit on my bike and I flicks the ignition and the start and their jaws hit the ground. She is Mean and Nasty in the best way. That was just a few weeks ago.
Great video, and thoughts on what you felt was good about it. Ive just bought one, had it about 2 months and put 1000 miles on it. Its a hoot to ride, really good fun on the local roads near me in Essex in the UK. Much more usable power than the GSXR I let go. Wont be swapping any time soon. Just put a Mustang Solo Touring seat on it for some much more comfortable trips out.
Interesting comment about the mirrors at around 9 mins. I've got one of these and the mirrors are pretty useless (as they were on my previous 48) unless you just want to look at your chest and under your armpits! You can mount the mirrors upside down as you said, and it looks good, but they bang into the tank on full lock if you do this. I ended up fitting some of those small concave mirrors in the outer edges of the bike's mirrors and this helps a good deal. Technology wise, it does have LED headlight, LED combined rear/stop/signal lights at the back, drive-by-wire (Cable-less) throttle, anti-lock braking and a USB port. Seems pretty advanced for a Harley, but I've not owned a Japanese bike since the 1980s so maybe I'm just out of touch. Weirdly, they didn't fit LED indicators at the front. I've replaced all mine with smaller LED units all round. You can also get things like heated grips (I fitted my own) and cruise control as extras. I also have a V&H FP3 attached permanently and this can give you quite a lot of info on your phone if you really want that. It's also got belt drive, mono-shock rear and upside down cartridge forks at the front. It's certainly more modern than any other Harley I've owned and rides more like a Triumph or something like that, than a regular Harley. Good review, interesting for me to see - thanks!
Now this I like. I checked one out yesterday here in Brisbane. Just a look, not a test tide, but it has that 'certain something'. I've recently been hugely critical of the dreadfully fake and contrived Triumph Bobber, but respect to HD with this.
Enjoyed the insight into this Harley, very cool machine. Personal preference Adventure bikes. But I love all motorcycles and what they offer, Freedom. I really enjoy 😀 your vids Bob 👍🙏
Out of all the Harleys, the only two I would ever consider owning would be this Fat Bob (bit offensive to you, the naming of this bike) and the Sportster, especially since from a bike I want tonnes of usual torque and sporty cornering (especially doing textbook "exit from corner onto a straight" overtake). Obviously, with this bike, there would be a lot done to make it look and sound better, but that happens with every new bike. Just wanna say, as well, I'm not too sure about the camera angle on your lid, personally. I feel like it's way too low and almost looks like you're crouching over the tank on every bike. But still, amazing video
Cheers mate. I think the sportster is more practical for your day to day because of the weight, but the FB is more of a dream bike. Yeah I’ve had a problem with the chin mount lately - I cobbled one together after my last one broke just before a test ride. I agree it’s a bit on the low side but haven’t had time to get the parts to put something better together. Soon tho!
You seem to have chosen roads more suited to Raleigh than Harley but good review. I love Harleys but only ever owned an 88" Super Glide and would probably want the older 96" Fat Bob than this latest version?
Aquí uno que se compró, a la vez que tu, una street twin, y 4 años después la grandota ésta. Ahora cada día es cuestión de elegir entre Acorralado o Conan.
I would add that while the bike has loads of torque, that is offset by a 675lb wet weight. So a bike weighing in at 525 lbs has a 25% reduction in weight and even a lower torque number will result in similar acceleration - torque result. Imagine if Harley went on a diet and shaved 150 lbs, how much better could that bike feel? Great review I just subscribed to your channel 😎
Thanks TF! Yeah it’s a big old beast. I don’t know where they could shave all that weight tho? You’d have to start swapping fenders for plastic etc? I like that it’s a big lump of metal!
MOTOBOB I agree, HDs have a place, there are plenty of lighter quicker options, but that’s not why you buy an HD. This bike is powerful smooth and a blast to ride...but let’s remember it’s a cruiser 😎. Awesome review! You did my bike justice!
Don’t think it’s the motors as much as the new emission regulations! Seen a video where they cut out the cats in the pipe. There is a 10-12in section in the pipe that is completely filled, can’t see though. Then you also have the “cans” on the ends.
Commuting in Central London at legal speeds is much easier on smaller machines. Hey even 125s are fine up to the max of 40 on most urban roads, are cheap, do over 120 (UK) Mpg, and easy to push around. The Harley and Triumph Rocket type cruisers always look like they suit some long straight empty single carriage way road. Just like there are lots of in the USA. In the UK the long straight roads are usually dual carriageways and filled with lorries and cars and the empty single carriage way roads are twisty. I'd like a ride of a big cruiser but I doubt I'll ever buy one unless I moved to the USA (unlikely to happen). I do like looking at the v twin, to me they look like works of art.
i did like the original fat bob, didn't realise it weighed in at 298 kgs... The new one, looks the business but... 317 kgs...i am surprised you felt comfortable on such tiny roads... 317 kgs... to put the weights in perspective, the Rocket made by the Light Car Company only weighed in at 380 kgs, and thats a two seater car. Great review though.
Fat Bob is the only Harley Davidson that calls out to me to ride it. The only sporty bike in their lineup. Still 300kg is heavy and that's just the way Americans build their bikes due to wide open roads and cheap fuel. The other Harley I am going to ride one day is the Street Glide. Maybe low Rider S. But that's it, I just know they are all pretty much the same riding experience... I would buy one only if I live in US. Cheers Riders ☻☻😁
I'd love a harley 😕 not this one though. I'd like to try a street bob, Bob 😅 but I've always had a soft spot for sportsters (1200 NOT 883, totally different bikes! ) since I first rode one 10 years ago. Lighter and slimmer than the big harleys but they're still grunty and make all the right noises!
Hmmmm not sure. I wouldn’t recommend buying one without a test ride. I guess you could convert the mid controls to forward controls, and possibly change the bars out?
I’m 6’ and I have just ordered a 2020 model after sitting on it - it’s perfect! I sat on a low rider S and could not get on with the seating position. My legs felt right under my arse and the bars were a stretch to hold comfortably even though I have the arms of an orangutan! I’m thinking of doing a vid on it as it’s being delivered in a week with short shots and the stupid number plate bracket removed for an axle mounted unit! 👍🏻
Harley is TRYING to reach out to a Younger Market. They need to KEEP their current Market... but if they are to continue into the future, they MUST also bring in new and younger customers. Although I am a 'naked-bike' rider... I do have a 'cruiser'. And I Often ride with Friends with Cruisers, including a Lot of Harleys. I am a little short of the Funds to throw at this Bike, for now. But would strongly consider it as my 2nd bike... for riding with my friends on longer trips than what I do on my naked bike, or for simply enjoying some open road and curving country roads. But I'll KEEP my 'naked bike'... it has been "tweaked" with some performance extras, for Track Days and those Really Twisty mountain roads! About all I would think of changing on this bike is some removable saddle bags for road trips, a removable back-rest, and work on some kind of smaller wheel and tire combo on the front... for a little quicker steering. Overall, a Very Nice Bike...that I would be Glad to own!
The airbox filter on this bike hits your right leg making your leg spread open wide. Its a bad design. The rocket 3 kills every other cruiser. Please dont compare rocket 3 to any other bike in the world. Its in a league of its own.
josh786manchester the rocket 3 is a cool bike and it’s power is ridiculous. But it’s a sled compared to this bike. I have the FatBob 114 and it’s by far the handling HD period. You sound ridiculous and to be honest ignorant with statements like that. And that makes others question your credibility and renders your comments meaningless. I suggest Ride one, then comment honestly. You will probably still love your Rocket 3 more, which is perfectly fine. However, you might also realize the merits of this review.
MPB2208 you just completely ignored the main reason why i dont like it. My main gripe is the air box which is ridiculous making your right leg stick out yet you said its comfortable. Yes it sounds nice i agree. But it is still clunky for modern day cruiser. Also when i said rocket 3 i mean the new rocket 3 2019/20 model which is 40KG lighter than previous model and is now 2500cc. It handles now like a proper roadster. When you test ride one you will realise it is the best bike in the worrrrllldddd!!! 👹
josh786manchester well I have the bike and I might add I have fairly short legs at 5’7” and I don’t have that issue at all? Now the new FXDR is a totally different story. That air cleaner is just huge. Again, nothing wrong with loving your new Rocket 3, but it would lose in the twisters 100%. I just found you “don’t compare” comment to be total shade. Most important thing is to find the bike that fits each of us, sounds like we both have done that. 👍
@@MPB2208 true the new fxdr has hugebairbox. The fatbob is more comfortable compared to fxdr. Your right. I take back what I said now about the fatbob. It's a decent bike! I think I was comparing the wrong bike 🤭

Although you won't be getting any knee down moments HD have made the Fat Bob better from previous model with a 5 degree better lean angle!
@@silasdave Nice to hear. Thanks.
Brakes are brembo's they cooperate with them. You can see small brembo logo in the front disc if you really look at it.
Don't like this one prefer the Fat Boy...or even the new Triumph Rocket 3.
I commute on mine and it's the bollocks
Is that good or bad?
Dylan N. That’s good
@@1969kingperry OK, excellent, thanks
The dogs dangleys
@@Ratbeeitch you are not English I take it -- the dogs bollocks means it great
You can park a super bike and a fat bob side by side, more people Will take a pic of the harely
It looks like it should have off road tires.
The Reinhardt slip ons sound better and cost less
Ever heard of using indicators?
2019 "its a £15k bike"
2022 they are now an £18.5k bikes
Does it have an ABS?
Yes. Comes as standard in the UK. Might be an option in the US
Would never fit in my front gate , breathe in .
Ditto. My Street Twin only just scrapes in
Rider modes are a bullshit gimmick made for people who have no idea about riding
This bike has a riding mode adjuster, it’s called the throttle 😂
I'm a rocker who earns £10/hours. So this bike isn't for my wallet.
get it back to the shed at the first sign of rain, or it will quickly go all brown and horrible.
Sounds like your yelling your way through the video. We are right here ,no reason to yell. Sounds like were being scolded.
I think I was comparing the wrong bike 🤭
josh786manchester I thought that may be the case. ;). No worries and ride safe Josh!
