    I will be sharing the ups and downs of life and how to attempt to get through it in one piece. I’ll be sharing realistic life advice, minimalism tips, routines, vlogs, and anything else I think you would benefit from! Life is messy and unpredictable, and learning how to manage these hurdles is the first step to leading a happier and more intentional life. We're all trying our best out here, and I just want to share what is and isn't working for me.

    Audiobooks are also reading, it activates the same parts of your brain and you have still consumed the story 🥰So definitely count them! (I assume you wouldn't tell a blind person they didn't read if they listened to audiobooks!)
    Thank you for listening and Happy place were two of my faves too! So excited to see someone else talk about Thank you for listening as I think it is not very well known and I want to make everyone read it 😂

      very true!!!I will say, I am very fortunate to be able to read without issue, so I mainly wanted to count the longest/shortest books I read as "actual pages read" bc I listened to iron flame on like 1.75x speed😂 also YES!!! thank you for listening is SUCH a good book!!

    Found your channel through the no-buy videos, (which are helping me stay motivated in my own efforts - thank you!), but learning that you love reading is such a bonus! Reading is my favorite hobby. 😊 I hope you do some reading vlogs in the future! Also - Tomorrow, & Tomorrow, & Tomorrow was my FAVORITE book that I read in 2023. 🤍

      I didn’t love Fourth Wing myself-it’s not my cup if tea. But I wouldn’t call the writing “cringy.” I think it’s popular for a reason and I get why my friends love it. It represents the genre well, and I respect that.

    Okay so I started this video yesterday (Jan 1st) and coming back to finish watching today because you helped me discover I can borrow audio books from my local library! So spent the day yesterday listening, thank you Grace. I was about to renew my Audible sub but then watched your video, so glad I did. My local library in Scotland has lots of books that were on my Audible Wishlist, so that helps with my 2024 Low Buy too! Yay 🎉💜😊

    Loved this video, Grace. Your format was terrific and a great way to talk about the books quickly. I have always been an avid reader and books have taught me so much in my life. I tend to go through phases where I will read on particular themes or genres these days whereas in my younger days I read very widely. Lately, I have wanted to expand my interests and, consequently, I am grateful to hear about the ones you have enjoyed and I have added them to my wish list (which is rather lengthy). Libby has some excellent books and I have stumbled on some that I would never have read if not for the app. How fantastic to be able to read these books for free! See you in 2024.

    I have a fantasy rec for you in the form of Godkiller by Hannah Kraner, it’s fantasy but the characters are very different to the typical fae/vamp romantasy novels that are popular atm so it was really refreshing for me to read while making my way through SJM’s enormous catalogue 😂 based on some of the books you’ve liked in other genres it might be a good one for you!

    Uprooted is so good! I strongly strongly recommend Spinning Silver next from Naomi Novik. I also strongly recommend Oona Out of Order - it has a really unique time travel premise where the protagonist Oona jumps between different years of her life. That one has stuck in my head for a few years at this point.

    Big yay for fantasy! ✨
    As someone who has been reading almost exclusively fantasy for years, I am excited to hear about you dipping your toes into this genre. Fantasy has been my comfort zone genre for a long time. Yes, there are a lot of cringy books there (I personally would count acotar among those, I could only enjoy those when completely shutting my brain off and accepting that not all books I read have to be "quality" books and I can read books with problematic relationships because I am an adult that can see they are problematic 😅) But there are a lot of gems here too. Just beware of the overhyped books. YA Fantasy especially is a genre where some very ... odd books get hyped for some reason. (The reason is often thinly veiled smut by the way. Not my cup of tea, but apparently it sells really well 😂) If you want to avoid the worst hype inflation maybe start with adult fantasy books. My personal favourite at the moment is the Guild Codex Series by Annette Marie. I re-listen to them on audible about once a year and they are as far as I know also available with kindle unlimited. Also very high on my list is Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo but that book and its sequel need some serious trigger warnings so check up on those before you dive in.
    Also yay for you using the story graph. I feel like hardly anyone uses it even though it is soooo much better than Goodreads and not owned by a corporation that would sell your soul if it could 😅

    • @gracenevitt
      @gracenevitt  5 місяців тому +1

      EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS!! YES!!! thank you!!! and YES my expectations are definitely slightly tempered for ACOTAR hahah but I'm super excited to get into adult fantasy after that!!!!

    Fantasy reccs from me which are in a completely different vein than the romantasy of ACOTAR and Fourth Wing would include the Nevernight Chronicles and Priory of the Prange Tree. (Priory looks huge, but it's only like 800 pages, the formatting if huge margins and thick paper make it look like more of a beast than it is)

    • @gracenevitt
      @gracenevitt  5 місяців тому +1

    The Deadly Education series by Naomi Novik was my favorite thing I read this year, besides Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow! I definitely recommend it and I can't wait to check out Uprooted. Normally I don't like book content that much, but I think we have similar taste, so I'm excited to see what you read this year :)

If you loved Happy Place you will definitely love Book Lovers and Beach Read bu Emily Henry. The people you meet on vacation is so-so. My favorite book this year was Lavender House by Lev AC Rosen. It's nice to see someone who is more or less a booktuber/bookish person online that doesn't read 200+ books a year. I love reading and books and the online community but sometimes I feel like a "fraud" or less-than because I don't usually get to read so many books in total. This year I went through a couple of REALLY busy and hard months so I only finished 18 books. But it's nice to know you read less than 100 or fifty too 🥲🥰 Makes me feel less like a fraud 😂 (bc I very much think you're not one so that must mean I'm not either if that makes any sense, not accusing or hating on your number of books 😅😂🫢).
    I'm excited to see what kind of books we get this year on the booktok radar. It's been a wild year this year. I often don't read the most popular books either bc I feel like I never like them as much as others. Anyways, happy new year !

    • @toffeefuchs
      @toffeefuchs 5 місяців тому +1

      I totally agree!
      I used to have a bookish instagram but I haven't posted in ages because I hardly every read physical books these days. I only find the time for that when I am on vacation and saying that I only read like 5 books a year makes me feel like a "fake reader". I do breeze through about 50-60 audiobooks a year, but a lot of those are re-reads and I feel like most bookstagram people don't even count audiobooks as reading. It is really refreshing to see someone who reads a more managable amount of books and also mentions audiobooks.😊

    • @gracenevitt
      @gracenevitt  5 місяців тому +2

      we're all valid readers!!!! I felt like a frickin rockstar reading 30 books this year lemme tell ya LOL I'm very proud of all of us for any amount of books we can read!!! I felt like a reader last year at 15 books and the year before at 5!!! 💗📚
