I love how you go through use cases with the throws. Gonna practice this one and use it in my very tiny arsenal of throws.

This is easily the main throw I throw, and my go to break throw

Yesss thank you Rowan! I am a huge fan of the Royal and I've always been wowed (and afraid) of you pulling this signature throw on us! I've asked for that tutorial for a long time and it makes my whole day! Great stuff as always. Cheers from Montreal.

Hi Rowan, recently discovered your channel and now watching everything! Great job explaining and demonstrating. The half pivot backhand is something I get beat on all the time so now I know what to watch for and also a throw I will definitely practice. Keep up the great work.

As a short player (5'8'') this is definitely one of the better throws to break a mark, even if the mark is lengthier. It's too quick to stop most of the time and starting a give and go from it is super easy. I throw more of these than 'regular' backhands in games. Even if you focus on a lower release here, I think varying the release height with the same footwork is very valuable and surprisingly easy.

Amazing point, something i do naturally but forgot to mention it here. might add the release point in a seperate video. I love the step through backhand force high release i/o to the break side!

You should do a lesson on touch throws

I love this throw. It's annoying how many people call travel when doing it though.

Hey James! Looking forward to matching up against you this year. I totally agree; lots of phantom travel calls against this one

If you pick up your knee on your leading leg then it’s more clear that you are not travelling to your opponents, as that leg would have to be down for you to have left your pivot foot. Practicing this also helps with your timing so you don’t accidentally travel and can help you accelerate out of the throw.

Is the grip any different than a typical backhand grip?

Also, core strength is really important for this throw, from what I’ve found
