What a beautiful song. I discovered this band a couple of decades ago. I've been to Ireland 7 time; so sad the death of the lovely Shane MacGowan. I had the privilege of seeing him in a concert in San Francisco. He was with the Popes by then. Wish I could have seen him with the Pogues! First song I ever heard Shane sing was "Thousands are Sailing" a beautiful sad song about the Emigration to New York in the famine years. My Irish grandparents who were born in 1890, came over likely in the early 1900s, My mother was born in 1919 but she had no memory of them. I've been crying a lot for Shane, saw his funeral in Neenagh in County Tipperary. It's on You Tube if you would like to see it. I've been to Tipperary town, after taking my son to the Rock of Cashel. We stayed in Cashel, a cute little village with a nice Hostel. We visited a cattle market, cuz there is not much there.
Will ya meet me on Clare Island Summer stars are in the sky We'll take the ferry out from Roonagh And wave all our cares good-bye We go dancing at the céilidh We go kissing on the strand Take our clothes off in the moonlight Skinny dip there hand in hand We start drinking in the twilight Keep it up until the dawn Go to bars because there's no guards To take our names and send us home Will ya meet me on Clare Island Summer stars are in the sky Get the ferry out from Roonagh And wave all our cares good-bye I'm getting weary of the city Seems so many things have changed Let's head off for Nora Daly's home Where she walked it never rained Will ya meet me on Clare Island Summer stars are in the sky Get the ferry out from Roonagh And wave all our cares good-bye And if there's wide and tall white horses And a swell rose in the bay I won't care if the boat can't sail We'll get home some other day Will ya meet me on Clare Island Summer stars are in the sky Get the ferry out from Roonagh And wave all our cares good-bye Whoa-oh oh, oh-oh, oh oh Whoa-oh oh, oh-oh, oh oh Whoa-oh oh, oh-oh, oh oh Will ya meet me on Clare Island Will ya meet me on Clare Island Oh will ya meet me Will ya meet me on Clare Island Oh will ya meet me Will ya meet me on Clare Island Oh will ya meet me When the stars are in the sky
I took that ferry out from Roonagh to Clare Island and stayed overnight in the BnB that the Saw Doctors stay at when they go there. What a magical journey! We also saw them in County Down at a concert in literally in the middle of a field where tons of busses arrived throughout the afternoon bringing hundreds of people. Ireland is so very unique and awesome!!!
This reminds of Sathill Galway , If was describ to a American what Sathill in Galway is like, well it's like Venice Beach in California. Anyone in Sathill, Galway agree with me?.

Will ya meet me on Clare Island
Summer stars are in the sky
We'll take the ferry out from Roonagh
And wave all our cares good-bye
We go dancing at the céilidh
We go kissing on the strand
Take our clothes off in the moonlight
Skinny dip there hand in hand
We start drinking in the twilight
Keep it up until the dawn
Go to bars because there's no guards
To take our names and send us home
Will ya meet me on Clare Island
Summer stars are in the sky
Get the ferry out from Roonagh
And wave all our cares good-bye
I'm getting weary of the city
Seems so many things have changed
Let's head off for Nora Daly's home
Where she walked it never rained
Will ya meet me on Clare Island
Summer stars are in the sky
Get the ferry out from Roonagh
And wave all our cares good-bye
And if there's wide and tall white horses
And a swell rose in the bay
I won't care if the boat can't sail
We'll get home some other day
Will ya meet me on Clare Island
Summer stars are in the sky
Get the ferry out from Roonagh
And wave all our cares good-bye
Whoa-oh oh, oh-oh, oh oh
Whoa-oh oh, oh-oh, oh oh
Whoa-oh oh, oh-oh, oh oh
Will ya meet me on Clare Island
Will ya meet me on Clare Island
Oh will ya meet me
Will ya meet me on Clare Island
Oh will ya meet me
Will ya meet me on Clare Island
Oh will ya meet me
When the stars are in the sky
Not going to lie... as a child I was under the impression that it said we'll start drinking in the toilet. Still sing it like that.
You have the words correct.
And it just goes downhill from there....
Fuckin gas 😂
The most beautiful song ever. I will make it home to Ireland again. Meet me on Clare island.
I saw her dancing in the rain
Red curls flying
Arms and hands waving at the sky
and i began to cry

The locals say into the island 🌴 and out to the mainland but the song feels right from a tourists point of view
Takes my breath away.
How on earth does this only have 40k views? 😱
There are other, possibly better, videos on UA-cam. Possibly.
I'd love to visit Clare Island. Love from England!
