Yeah the dd3 is great also, just bought one 6 months ago but I think it's now called the dd3t for the tap tempo option, anyways it's really all the delay I need for my uses
Seems like I have been using the Keeley Caverns a lot nowadays even tho I have many other fancy delays. My Strymons and Source Audio pedals have been getting a little dusty lately. Lol I also must agree with you about the Boss DD-200 it's a great pedal but why the heck didn't they add volume to the looper function to it? 🤦♂️ The only reason I can think of is they still want people to buy their individual looper pedals.
Could be. However, when it comes to looping, delay pedals are extremely limited in what they can compare to an actual looper pedal. I never use delay pedals for looping.
I can never seem to get that EVH and other shredders delay sound. I have a MXR CC. I like it but I don't use much. I don't play that ambient stuff. Just can't figure it out. I try at time then walk away.
i had a mxr ccdeluxe. only liked 1 setting but that was also 10yrs ago (i knew nothing). only used it for a week then sold it yrs later, it literally sat in a droor 4yrs only been played once. dam i hate myself sometimes..... so brings me to this idea. how bout a video of regrets or stupid moments. what's some gear you got rid of and felt stupid later on?
i'm kinda surprised that there wasn't a variant of the eletro harmonix memory man on the list. only for historic value at the least although there's plenty of modern pedals that can do what it does and probably better. love the top 10 lists though, you should do more lol!
I really enjoyed this list! Thanks! Can you or anyone tell me why maybe they wouldn't have something like the EHX Memory Man/Boy/Toy on a list like this? Just curious :). In the market for a new delay pedal. I currently own a few (Digitech Digidelay, all the delays that are on my TC Electronic Plethora X5, and a Wampler Metaverse), but I want to get a dedicated delay pedal as the whole multi function delay pedals in my experience all seem to do delays well, but I'm tired of going thru menus and adjusting things when all I want is a delay with a few knobs so I can set and go. For me, I really like how the emulated Memory Man or an Echoplex sounds, but I'm also a fan of crystal clean digital delays as well.
I understand that. Seems like this video should steadily get views if the algorithm allows. I know, I used to type in youtube phrases like, Top 10 best delay pedals or Best delay pedals of all time etc...
The Prophet sounded great but the effect turns on when you release your foot from the switch. That doesn’t work for my live playing style where I want pedals to work immediately when I press the button.
Awesome thanks for that. Definitely a buncha things there to check out personally. I'm surprised so many pedals integrate the tap tempo function into the on/off switch. Is that weird to use? Also good to know others feel as strongly about the BOSS stuff. I always thought the BOSS delay pedals sounded great and better than many "boutique" pedals I had tried. Also any reason no Strymon stuff was mentioned?
Love my Carbon Copy. It was my second ever pedal. The first was my TS-9 … I still have both. Good video, Robert. I hope all is well. Mary & I left Hollywood in June & are settling-in here in northern Illinois. I’ll be back to work recording soon. The pandemic destroyed L.A.
I was just there and it was hell. Thousand Oaks, Agoura, Westlake, Moorpark, Simi and other parts of Ventura County seemed far more together. Stalinist policies will collapse cities every single time. I’m surprised no one learned from Detroit, San Francisco, New York and Chicago. It’s really a shame.
Interesting subject but well covered. Thank you for sharing! For me H9 for massive delay options and something more like Boss, Supro, or Walrus Audio as a standalone pedal.
This video would have been a lot longer had a done that, and most of my audience doesn’t have the patience to sit through anything longer than about 3 minutes as it is. LOL
I love the Carbon Copy -- have a number of them. Just picked up a Walrus Audio Meraki Stereo Analog Dual Delay that I'm building into a fully stereo rig. Haven't fired it up yet, but will soon when the rig is completed. Not exactly inexpensive, but has about everything you'd need in a stereo pedal. Check it out!
I was in love with my EHX Canyon (for high-gain too) until i aquired a Carbon Copy on a package deal... Two totally different delays, i know, but analog is incredible to my ears, to my setup... Very cool delay. (Both are very cool delays)
I run 2 delay pedals. I kinda subscribe to the "cascading" theory even with reverb. Overdrive & distortion, more than 2! I'm an old school effects guy from the ADA tube preamp days which had 2 cascading 12AX7 circuits just like old Fender amps. Nowadays, I like to run one delay & reverb in the front of the amp & one "post" or at the end of the loop effects chain. I separate the analog & the digital to both spots even though I've got a digital/analog combo delay pedal running at the front
I think the DD-500 has two delays which can do different things in parallel or serial, has a third foot switch so tap tempo and two presets or three presets, has full sized 5pin midi connectors rather than 1/8” and a much easier to read and understand display. I have the RV500 and the MD500 but I too have the DD200 and the DD7. They do 90% of the delays that I don’t have in the Helix.
I still like my Boss DD20, sure it takes up some space but it does everything and has two outputs so I can do the 700ms Brighton Rock ping pong thing. Plus I swear Samantha Fish is still using one because I heard the spaceship sound effect coming outta her rig. Tomsline Roto Engine is also a great little pedal, has an awesome Leslie cab simulator.
My 2 cents worth top 10 honorable mentions: (in no particular order) NU-X Tape Core Line6 DL4 FoxGear Echosex Baby MXR Echoplex Behringer Vintage Time Machine Donner White Tape delay Flamma FS03 delay DOD Rubberneck Caline CP-513 Simon Super Delay JHS Pedals 3 Series Delay You're welcome! Ha! 🙃 🤟
Totally agree with the DD-7/8. I've got to the 8 and it's great. I've got a Fender Mirror Image that is awesome. My go to is my MXR echoplex 75% of the time.
Hey Robert, Have to agree with you regarding Boss pedals man, great stuff. I am thinking about picking up a UA Del-Verb one of these days too. I watched a few videos on that one and it really sounded fantastic.
Your choices were very interesting and within reach for practically any player. Cool list. I honestly have jumped around from delay to delay and finally tried a Strymon. JEEZ. I thought it was just hype but...I was wrong.
Another helpful and informative video! Great selection and with different styles and vibes of delay pedal. I own both the TC Electronic "The Prophet" and "Echo Brain" delays and they are great sounding, well built delays, though I think the time segment switch on The Prophet gives it the edge as the better of the two. I run both on my board to get a nice, warm analog slap back running into clearer digital repeats. Great stuff Robert, keep on rocking.
That TC stuff is great. I have a Nova delay on my board that has been on the board for over ten years. MXR Carbon copy, same. Great pedal. The Nova has all the division stuff, all the delay types, you look for. The MXR is a bit dark but that makes the repeats not step on the initial signal. Well done, Robert.
Awesome demo of some excellent delay pedals. My favorite delay is the Flamma fc17. It has an amazing sound and it's a compact pedal as well. Its saves me a ton of space on my pedal board.
I've been using the Jacques Prisoner analog delay for many years. Robert, what pedal, or pedals would you use to mimic or represent as close as possible a saxophone using a guitar?
I've owned the BOSS DD-7 for years and it's so user friendly and having the ability to send sperate signals to two amps across the room from each other is phenomenal.
It's a toss up between the El Capistan and the Keeley Halo for me with the Halo getting a slight edge. It does that "thing" that I just love!
I love my DD8. I just wish it were easier to program dotted eighth delays.
I’m using an old Boss DD-3…it still does more delays than I need…but I keep things simple 🤣
Yeah the dd3 is great also, just bought one 6 months ago but I think it's now called the dd3t for the tap tempo option, anyways it's really all the delay I need for my uses
Yes, Boss updated the DD-3 to the DD-3T about 4 years ago.
Seems like I have been using the Keeley Caverns a lot nowadays even tho I have many other fancy delays. My Strymons and Source Audio pedals have been getting a little dusty lately. Lol
I also must agree with you about the Boss DD-200 it's a great pedal but why the heck didn't they add volume to the looper function to it? 🤦♂️ The only reason I can think of is they still want people to buy their individual looper pedals.

Roland Space Echo RE-20
Good pedal
Well, yeah.

just watched to see if my carbon copy was on the list lol
You’re welcome. LOL
How about that joyo D- seed 2 pedal.its got alot of bells and whistles ..
I really enjoyed this list! Thanks! Can you or anyone tell me why maybe they wouldn't have something like the EHX Memory Man/Boy/Toy on a list like this? Just curious :). Just get the Boss DD-200. You can thank me later.

👍👍👍 Cool video, might as well do more top 10 list of other effects like Reverb next. Lol
Meh, maybe down the road. This one actually didn’t perform that well. LOL
Dude, how long do you hold the switch down? LOL
I use the Flashback

Awesome man, I hope you guys are settling in okay. You’re just a couple of hours from me now.
Christmas 2018 they came out, 2 for 1 at GC.... T.C.... that is.
It was actually Black Friday weekend, and it was 3 for $99. 😉
Interesting subject but well covered. Thank you for sharing! For me H9 for massive delay options and something more like Boss, Supro, or Walrus Audio as a standalone pedal.
hi all.. i am using a boss pedal and one of my lightsoundgeometry analog delay
Now it's time to twist the knobs and hear how they sound.
This video would have been a lot longer had a done that, and most of my audience doesn’t have the patience to sit through anything longer than about 3 minutes as it is. LOL

The Arian SAD-1 has gotta be the best analog pedal ever created !! Love mines to death !!
I have a T Rex Emmie, which is a delay and volume boost. Very cool as well.
MXR Carbon Copy is my goto....thanks Robert
I've been using the Jacques Prisoner analog delay for many years.
Robert, what pedal, or pedals would you use to mimic or represent as close as possible a saxophone using a guitar?
No idea. If one of the EHX 9 Series pedals doesn’t do it, I got nuthin’. LOL
Thanks for the wonderful video Robert😁
A talk about pedals without even demo'ing / playing through them and show what they can?
Correct! Because most of them have been demoed on my channel already. 🤦🏻♂️
Can't go wrong with Boss !
What should I get for my first pedal?
Depends on what else you have in your rig, I suppose.
anything by Boss, it will sound good and last forever.

@@larsa8825 sure, with the right tweeks and proper star alignment.

I have an old I Ibanez rack delay and it is cool. I don't have a foot pedal delay but I really want to get that Walrus fundamental one though.
The Walrus Fundamental Delay is awesome!
Ibanez rack delay was Jane's Addiction vocals.
