Proper hip rotation will send the 2 further than the 1. Meaning, if the jab almost touches, the cross will land. Thanks again, great channel! Balkan Shipyards

I'm so happy you are going over the basics , especially after all the years and videos that you have done. Thank you so much. Please keep doing these your amazing 👏
It's amazing Tyson Fury achieved all he did then Kronx guy can't believe I forgot him name E Stewards nephew went to train Tyson said he had to teach him how to punch correctly. Just shows you
thanks a lot for this video. beginner stuff really, but sometimes along the way you start to get your basic techniques wrong again lol. good reminder to focus on that rotation and the elbow being in line with the shot.
Hi coach Fran, Christmas is coming soon. I want to say thank you very much for everything that you've taught me via your videos. I'd love to buy you a drink if I'm ever in the UK. You're the good friend I haven't met yet
Thai guys I have seen sometimes teach the hook with a locked elbow thats just rotated into the opponent. Not sure I am explaining it well but it is maybe possible as it can be hidden within a broader range of strikes MT guys can call on.
I was also taught that if the palm is turned in (apart from it being a slap) you run more risk of catching the opponent's shoulder-guard. It's a tempting shot though because it feels more ergonomic, ie. more powerful.
@@myboxingcoach thanks for replying, Mr Sands. I'm a disciple of yours. Only in it for fitness, but you give the likes of me a lot to think about when I'm whacking the bags
Coach, do you consider an "overhand right", a punch? I have only ever been taught jabs, hooks, upper cuts, and crosses. Thanks! New floor coming? All the tape is gone. Cheers ✊!!
Much of the boxing community at the highest levels seems to have forgotten that the HOOK is not only thrown with the lead hand. It is as if the only backhand is a straight backhand. 4:56
I have a question, it seems there is a big difference between straight right punch shown in your video and the "soviet" style straight right that is seen in videos by trainer Alexey Frolov (for instance this video ua-cam.com/video/Z82TQS_F9Uw/v-deo.html or here ua-cam.com/video/WlWOWgID9q4/v-deo.html). For instance the first movement Frolov shows is the movement up and the left leg ends up being completely straight, while you just go to the front from the start and the left legs ends up being bended at the end. Is this simply difference between eastern vs western style? Or is there a purpose for these differences? thank you for the answer in advance :) and also thanks for the video
Not sure to be honest, not a sport I know a huge amount about. I know that in amateur boxing it would be called out as a foul punch (hitting with the inside of the glove). Maybe the rules in MMA are different?
Long range punches are used alot in mma and muay thai since you can combine them easier with kicks. With short range punches you always need to create some space/distance for the kicks to be more effective.
Turn the shot with both the wrist and the forearm LATE. LATE movement. I know most boxers seem to fail to turn their punches. In seems as if no one teaches the art of torque in punching. Torque generation from the rotation of not just the fist but MORE SO the forearm digging into the opponent. I know the reason has to do with hand injuries and the unfortunate fact that the forearm muscles are among the hardest to VISUALLY improve, so many give up even though aesthetics only mean so much 5:13
@Fran Sands Since I'm only 178CM tall and my arms aren't particularly long, I'm always trying to get the best range I can with my cross and sometimes it ends with me hurting my elbow. How can I avoid this because it sucks?
How do you feel about Jack Dempsey's "trigger step" for adding power to the cross? Feels like a nice shortcut for teaching people weight transfer to me

Fran, Would I be correct in saying that versions 2 and 3 of the cross would account for more knockouts since they hit the side of the chin rather than the center as the pure straight does?

Don't try to wipe out humanity with every punch is my new favourite advice in boxing
Funny how we forget the subtle mechanics of a simple right hand. Many thanks mate.
As my old coach used to say the jab is the can opener the right cross is the spoon that gets to the meat..

No worries, thanks for watching. Yes, I agree totally, always worth re-examining the basics 👍
Brilliantly explained, as always Fran. Thank you. 🙏🏻
Glad you enjoyed it pal

Thank you mate, hope you are well
That’s brilliant. I love watching boxing videos to see how I can incorporate it into my MMA training
Same keep going gang
Thank you coach, your classes are great. I will practice this.
Brilliant Fran, thank you.

Thanks Fran, you know your stuff! I always been over reaching with my right hand and it’s always missing the target.
Happy to help pal

Fantastic. Thanks pal, an offer of a drink is always nice 😉
Thank you sir for fixing my long range hook👏🏾
“Left hook makes a great dessert”. Man is a poet
I would turn my punches over more when throwing the right and also use my shoulder to protect the chin when throwing it 👊 good video 👍
Great video. Really makes sense the way you explain the concepts and theory. Thank you.
Love your videos. To the point and no BS! Keep them coming buddy and thank you!!!!
What a brilliant masterpiece. 👏
Thank you Heather
Wish I knew this guy about 15 years ago when i was boxing pro myself. Needed more work on footwork and sharpness
Thanks Darren, appreciate that mate
Thanks Fran - have defo been gunshy (with theright) in sparring - now I hope I understand why.
Start with the straightest one you can Stuart, late in the rotation, and get the 'feel' with some drills before the spar. See how it goes.
I enjoy these videos so much thank you !
great video, thanks
Beware for Fouts soon screaming that you are teaching "his" technic 🤣
😂 Yes, I should batten down the hatches ready for the assault
He's definitely not teaching Fouts technique, Mat Fouts is the best there is imo
@@dguitar3831 Fouts is a paranoid asshole but he knows his shit as far as body mechanics goes

But what about protecting your chin with your shoulder when throwing the right hand?

Yes, good point, sounds about right. At close range palm in is fine, but longer range definitely palm down.

I quite like the over hand right. Bit unorthodox but really effective when done right

Thanks Fran Combination boxing teaching,Can these play styles be applied to MMA & UFC?
I suppose so Leo, but I would definitely be running it past an MMA coach - I don't have that background

What boxing glove should I get with good durability, and good wrist support. And I have a range of 120 dollars

I've heard of the falling step that Dempsey did with the jab (definitely adds power), not with the right though...will look into that

Hi William. Yes, I would agree. Lateral hits tend to result on more KOs I would suggest.
Thanks for always taking the time to reply!

Yes
keep the hands lose he reckons , but your coming from a steady block position to a punch in half a second
