I could never get the distance with the uppercuts when I first started boxing...missing the chin...consistetly a pro boxer said to distance the uc to hit the upper chest..then you naturally hit the chin...worked for me.....every ones different though
Great job as always. More people need to understand that front knee bend and level drop. So many have tendency to be rising up like they're launching into the target.
Love uppercuts. Combining them with Tyson's switch step and the check hook, the uppercut is practically invisible. No way to see it coming if you have any kind of angle advantage
Spot on explanation of the different distance and ranges of throwing the uppercut. You sir are a true boxing coach which you prove with your applications of knowledge. Too many self proclaimed social media boxing idiots that don't know shit but think they do with their 50 hit tippy-tappy fancy-nancy pad work. Keep sharing the real knowledge of the sweet science sir!
You can tell he's the. Old-School boxing coach and he knows. The game inside out, whe he was Demonstrate how to throw. The uppercut, it all comes from the. Jab, 🥊
Lead hand uppercut is the hardest punch in boxing for me anyway. I always think of Azumah Nelson v Pat Cowdell, one of the greatest uppercuts i've seen, the power he generated in that shot was remarkable and the effect was obvious.
Cheers for posting, I keep getting caught in sparring with uppercuts lately , think maybe my weak point am an evasive fighter but getting caught too many times with uppercuts lol
Really awesome tutorial on uppercuts. Very practical advise. My left uppercut sucks and always my shoulder hurts, but by following your tips now I don't feel pain in the shoulder. H Keep your great job ! Thanks a lot. BTW, I'm puzzled with Razor Ruddock's Smash punch a mix of hook & uppercut. I know is risky but used sparely is desvastating. Do you mind to create a tutorial on Smash punch, please? Thanks a lot !
Brilliant content. I find it very hard to throw and land my back hand when sparring because I feel it makes me vulnerable. And the under rotation comments are loud and clear in my ears. Have you got any videos on working rotation Fran?
My gym only has heavy bags, would love to try one of those... The uppercuts are easily my worst punches, maybe I should ask to focus on them on the mitts or in front of the mirror
This is a fantastic video, thanks for it. I am eager to spar for the first time, so i am training at home to get ready to spar at the boxing gym. I have a question: how do you not leave yourself open for a counter when throwing a backhand uppercut (like Douglas vs Holyfield)? Even though i am only shadow boxing, i feel open for a counter when i throw a right uppercut.
Hey Fran, i just bought Jack Dempsey's book championship fighting and was thinking: do those "old techniques" like falling step and dempsey roll, are still effective in modern boxing? (Like in amateur matches)
Any technique can be good. In the amateurs mobility is #1 for me, but yes, for example the drop step jab is good to cover range and land a harder shot.
Yes, absolutely, great shot. The forearm stays on the vertical plane but the level of the forearm lowers...if that makes sense. Solar Plexus is the target.
@@myboxingcoach yes I understand! I was taught this punch and was told it is an upper cut. Upper cuts are usually only shown as head shots, but can be to the body just like hooks, jabs, and crosses ✊! Thanks Fran for the reply!
When you were doing the short range uppercut it reminded me of when Tyson Fury punched himself and then told people it was the hardest he’d ever been hit in his life haha
The undisputed top boxing coach 🥊

For me it is the solar plexus, if I can feel that I can drive my hand into solar plexus, my uppercut can land either there or the chin.
Great job as always. More people need to understand that front knee bend and level drop. So many have tendency to be rising up like they're launching into the target.
Different way to throw it. There's at least 3. The rise up style works great off of a duck...and is VERY powerful
Love uppercuts. Combining them with Tyson's switch step and the check hook, the uppercut is practically invisible. No way to see it coming if you have any kind of angle advantage
Really helps that you show how your feet should be positioned for the rear and lead uppercut thank you
Fran, you've still got it man. I wouldn't want to be hit by you.
😂, thanks pal

Thanks mate. Appreciate you taking the time to watch and leave a positive comment. Always nice that bit of crossover appreciation👍
Great coach makes everything easy to comprehend. Thank Fran
Thanks Pete. Hope you are well pal
Coach, you explain 6thing in a way that makes everything seem like common sense. The mechanics are so natural. But only after you explain why.
Fran, your instruction and explanations are the best anywhere! ✊
I appreciate that, thank you
Thanks Upper cut Crystal clear, sir. Best use made by mr George foreman in all his boxing career.
Sir thanks a lot for this invaluable help
Most welcome👍
Solid video.
I was literally thinking about uppercuts around a hour before this video.
v.useful. the dinner date analogy was very inventive.
Indeed this one is very difficult. I got injured for not having the proper technique. This is good stuff
Excellent Fran.
Great explanation and demonstration.
Thank you Jim - coming from a top coach that means a hell of a lot pal👍
Thanks Coach
Very nice peace of work right there. 😁👍🔥
Your channel is awesome
Thanks Coach
Thank mate
Great, thanks

Yes Ash, terrifying KO that one and as you say it looked effortless from Azumah.
Also Alexander Povetkin v Dillian Whyte, the first fight. That's the best lead uppercut I've ever seen. That shot would've ko'd an ox!

Brilliant content as usual and its my favourite punch but hardest to land if not working on the ropes or corner my right uppercut
Thanks Richard. Yes, risky...but worth it if it lands
@@myboxingcoach very true and welcome mate
Fran. Merry Christmas. From Craig.

Glad you liked it pal. Yes, this one might help - ua-cam.com/video/MuGFcEweta4/v-deo.html
You stole the upper cut from me. I invented the upper cut. Unbelievably shocking behaviour! ;)
Sorry couldn't resist
😂😂😂 - Hopefully that was a one-off JD...for all our sakes!!!
All good

I'm getting tired just watching him hit the bag - good vid 👍
What about throwing the lead uppercut using the back leg while still rotating hip instead of the same rotation you would use for lead hook?

Uppercut is my best punch... I hope I can win the county novice title
Thank you so much for this vid! I do have one question, where do I place my weight when I throw the lead uppercut? The lead foot?
Good question Raphael. Drive off the front foot, weight central

Those uppercuts on the bag sound like a shotgun !
🥊About to be a great watch
Thanks mate
Connor McGregor lands long range lead uppercut very effectively, and with power.
Stupid Question: Can upper cuts be thrown to the body? I throw punches to the body that take the same trajectory as upper cuts. Thanks ✊!!
Yes, absolutely, great shot. The forearm stays on the vertical plane but the level of the forearm lowers...if that makes sense. Solar Plexus is the target.

If punches did go out on a dinner date.... the uppercut would go out with the hook 😄 I loled. Good explanation though 😉👊
Haha. Thanks Bard.
On the note of landing an uppercut on your own head, lets not forget tyson fury did exactly that once lol
😀
Looks like a maise bag full of skulls…
